Greetings to all of you from Pakistan.

आप सब को पाकिस्तान से मंगल-कामनाएँ|

It is often said that we fear that which we do not know.

अक्सर ऐसा कहा जाता है कि हम सबसे ज्यादा उस से डरते हैं जिसे हम जानते नहीं।

And Pakistan, in this particular vein, is very similar.

और पाकिस्तान की कहानी यही है।

Because it has provoked, and does provoke,

क्योंकि उसने उकसाईं है, और उकसा रहा है

a visceral anxiety in the bellies of many a Western soul,

ऐसी अंदरूनी बेचैनी कई एक पश्चिमी सभ्यता में रचे बसे लोगों मे,

especially when viewed through the monochromatic lens

खासकर तब जब कि उसे ऐसे शीशे से देखा जाता है

of turbulence and turmoil.

जिस पर खलबली और बखेडों का रँग चढा हो।

But there are many other dimensions to Pakistan.

पर पाकिस्तान के कई एक पहलू और भी हैं।

And what follows is a stream of images,

Here are some of the stories they wanted us to share with you.

My name is Abdul Khan. I come from Peshawar.

मेरा नाम अब्दुल ख़ान है। मैं पेशावर का रहने वाला हूँ।

I hope that you will be able to see

आशा है आप देख पाएँगे

not just my Taliban-like beard,

न सिर्फ़ मेरे तालिबान-जैसी दाढी,

but also the richness and color

बल्कि उन रँगों और उस उत्साह को

of my perceptions, aspirations and dreams,

जो मेरे नज़रियों, मेरी आशाओं और मेरे सपनों मे भरा है,

as rich and colorful as the satchels that I sell.

बिलकुल उतना ही रँग-बिरँगा जितना कि वो थैले जो मैं बेचता हूँ।

My name is Meher and this is my friend Irim.

मेरा नाम मेहर है, और ये मेरा दोस्त है ईरिम।

I hope to become a vet when I grow up

मैं बडा हो कर जानवरों का डॉक्टर बनना चाहता हूँ

so that I can take care of stray cats and dogs

जिस से कि मैं लावारिस कुत्ते और बिल्लियों की देखभाल कर सकूँ

who wander around the streets of the village

that I live near Gilgit, northern Pakistan.

My name is Kailash. And I like to enrich lives

Do I matter, or really exist for you?

My name is Iman. I am a fashion model,

मेरा नाम है ईमान. मैं फ़ैशन मॉडल हूँ,

an up-and-coming model from Lahore.

और लाहौर के सबसे अच्छे मॉडलों में से एक।

Do you see me simply smothered in cloth?

क्या आप मुझे सिर्फ़ इन कपडों में लिपटा देखते हैं?

Or can you move beyond my veil

या फ़िर आप मेरे पर्दे के आगे भी झाँक सकते हैं

and see me for who I truly am inside?

और सच में असली मुझ तक पहुँच सकते हैं?

My name is Ahmed. I am an Afghan refugee

मेरा नाम अहमद है। मै एक अफ़गानी शरणार्थी हूँ

from the Khyber agency.

खैबर एजेन्सी से।

I have come from a place of intense darkness.

मै बहुत ही गहन अँधेरे की दुनिया से आया हूँ।

And that is why I want to illuminate the world.

और इसीलिये मैं सारी दुनिया को रोशन करना चाहता हूँ।

My name is Papusay.

मेरा नाम पापुसे है।

My heart and drum beat as one.

मेरा ढोल और मेर दिल एक ही ताल में बजते हैं।

If religion is the opium of the masses,

अगर धर्म जन-समुदायों का नशा है,

then for me, music is my one and only ganja.

तो मेरे लिये, मेरा संगीत ही मेरा गांजा है।

A rising tide lifts all boats.

एक चढता ज्वार सभी नावों को ऊपर उठाता है।

And the rising tide of India's

और इस चढते ज्वार ने, जो भारत

spectacular economic growth

की अद्वितीय वित्तीय तरक्की से आया है,

has lifted over 400 million

करीब ४० करोड भारतीयों को

Indians into a buoyant middle class.

तरक्की पसंद मध्य-वर्ग में ला खडा किया है।

But there are still over 650 million Indians,

पर अभी भी करीब ६५ करोड भारतीय,

Pakistanis, Sri Lankans, Bangladeshis, Nepalese,

पाकिस्तानी, श्रीलंकाई, बाँग्लादेशी, और नेपाली बचे हैं,

who remain washed up on the shores of poverty.

जो गरीबी में जी रहे हैं।

Therefore as India and Pakistan, as you and I,

इसलिये, भारत और पाकिस्तान के रूप में, और आप और मैं खुद अपने रूप में,

it behooves us to transcend our differences,

to celebrate our diversity,

is to rejuvenate the lives of millions of low income families

ये है कि हम कम आमदनी वाले दसियों लाख परिवारों को

by providing them with affordable access

मुहैया करवा पाये ऐसी सुविधा

to catastrophic health care.

जो उन्हें स्वास्थ सुविधा दे जब कोई आपातकालीन समस्या उन्हें घेर ले।

Indeed it is the emerging world's first

ये सच में विकासशील दुनिया का पहला

HMO for the urban working poor.

एच.एम.ओ. है शहरी गरीबों के लिये।

Why should we do this as Indians and Pakistanis?

और हम ये अलग अलग हिन्दुस्तानी और पाकिस्तानी हो कर क्यों करें?

We are but two threads cut from the same cloth.

हम एक ही कपडे से खींचे गये दो धागे ही तो हैं।

And if our fates are intertwined,

और अगर हमारी तकदीरें जुडी हुई है,

then we believe that it is good karma, it is good fortune.

तो हम ये भी समझते है कि ये एक अच्छा कर्म होगा, भाग्यशाली होगा।

And for many of us, our fortunes do indeed lie

और हम से बहुत बहुत सारे लोगों का भाग्य और बहाली

at the bottom of the pyramid. Thank you.

It felt like it was really important.

They went through a lot to get here.

इन्हें यहाँ आने के लिये बहुत बहुत परेशानियों का सामना करना पडा।

Would the Pakistanis please just stand up please?

क्या यहाँ मौजद पाकिस्तानी लोग कृप्या खडे हो सकते है?

I just really wanted to acknowledge you.

मैं बस आप सब का शुक्रिया अदा करना चाहता हूँ।
