I would like to demonstrate for the first time in public

that it is possible to transmit a video

from a standard off-the-shelf LED lamp

घर के एल इ डी (LED) लैम्प सेI

to a solar cell with a laptop acting as a receiver.

एक सोलरसेल तक जो एक लैपटॉप से जुडा और ग्राहक का काम करता है|

There is no Wi-Fi involved, it's just light.

इसमे वाई-फाई (wi-fi) का इस्तेमाल नही है| सिर्फ प्रकाश का

And you may wonder, what's the point?

आपको अचरज होगा मै क्या कहने जा रहा हू |

And the point is this:

मैं बताता हू आपको :

There will be a massive extension of the Internet

भविष्य मे इंटरनेट बहुत बडे पैमाने पर अपने पैर फैलायेगा |

to close the digital divide,

डीजिटल विषमता दूर करने .

and also to allow for what we call "The Internet of Things" --

और इंटरनेट के जो साधन है उसे जुडने

tens of billions of devices connected to the Internet.

जिनकी संख्या करोडो में है |

In my view, such an extension of the Internet can only work

मेरा मानना है, इसका विस्तार अच्छे से तभी हो सकता है|

if it's almost energy-neutral.

जब यह लगाई जाने वाली उर्जा से मुक्त होI

This means we need to use existing infrastructure as much as possible.

इसका अर्थ है कि आज जो व्यवस्था है उसका ज्यादा से ज्यादा इस्तेमाल हो I

And this is where the solar cell and the LED come in.

यहां आपको सहाय्य होता है सोलरसेल तथा LED याने लाईट एमिटीन्ग डायोड का|

I demonstrated for the first time,

इसका प्रयोग मैने दिखाया है पहली बार |

at TED in 2011,

टेड (TED) २०११ मे I

Li-Fi, or Light Fidelity.

जिसे जाना जाता है LI -FI लाय फाय याने लाईट फायडेलिटी.

Li-Fi uses off-the-shelf LEDs to transmit data incredibly fast,

एक विशिष्ट मानक के LED द्वारा डाटा शीघ्र पारेषित होता है I

and also in a safe and secure manner.

और वो भी सुरक्षित I

Data is transported by the light,

डाटा का पारेषण होता है I

encoded in subtle changes of the brightness.

प्रकाश की धवलता मे तीव्र गति से बदलाव करके I

If we look around, we have many LEDs around us,

हमे अपने इर्द गिर्द बहुत से LED दिखाई देते है |

so there's a rich infrastructure of Li-Fi transmitters around us.

जो कि एक बहुत प्रभावशाली बुनियादी संरचना है लाय फाय पारेषण के लिये |

But so far, we have been using special devices -- small photo detectors,

लेकिन अभी हम photo detector का इस्तेमाल कर रहे है|

to receive the information encoded in the data.

जो कि ग्रहण करता है सांकेतिक शब्दो मे रूपांतरित डाटा |

I wanted to find a way to also use existing infrastructure

मेरा इरादा है कि मैं आज की संरचना इस्तेमाल करू |

to receive data from our Li-Fi lights.

डाटा ग्रहण करने लाय फाय लाईट से

And this is why I have been looking into solar cells and solar panels.

यही कारण है मैं सौरसेल तथा सोलर पैनल का इस्तेमाल करता हू|

A solar cell absorbs light and converts it into electrical energy.

सौर सेल प्रकाश अवशोषित करके उसे विद्युत उर्जा में बदल देता है |

This is why we can use a solar cell to charge our mobile phone.

यही कारण है हम अपने मोबाईल रिचार्ज करने हेतू सौर सेल प्रयोग में लाते है |

But now we need to remember

यहा एक बात का ध्यान रखे

that the data is encoded in subtle changes of the brightness of the LED,

इसमे डाटा सांकेतिक रुप से बदला जाता है प्रकाश की कम ज्यादा धवलता के रूप मे|

so if the incoming light fluctuates,

जैसे आपाती प्रकाश की धवलता कम ज्यादा होगीI

so does the energy harvested from the solar cell.

उसी तरह सौरसेल कम ज्यादा विद्युत उर्जा निर्माण करेगा |

This means we have a principal mechanism in place

इसका मतलब हमारे पास एक यंत्रणा है |

to receive information from the light and by the solar cell,

जो डाटा ग्रहण करती है प्रकाश तथा सौर सेल द्वारा प्राप्त .

because the fluctuations of the energy harvested

रोशनी की धवलता में होने वाला बदलाव

correspond to the data transmitted.

डाटा से जुडा होता है|

Of course the question is:

यहा एक सवाल है |

can we receive very fast and subtle changes of the brightness,

क्या हम कई गुना जल्द रोशनी के बदलाव को ग्रहण कर सकते है |

such as the ones transmitted by our LED lights?

जैसे की कोई LED पारेषित करता है I

And the answer to that is yes, we can.

इस सवाल का जवाब है हा कर सकते हैI

We have shown in the lab

इसकी पुष्टी प्रयोगशाला मे हुई है I

that we can receive up to 50 megabytes per second

हम 50 मेगाबाईट प्रति सेंकड ग्रहण कर सकते है I

from a standard, off-the-shelf solar cell.

एक विशिष्ट मानक के सौरसेल से

And this is faster than most broadband connections these days.

ये इतना तेज होगा कि वर्तमान के सभी ब्राडबांड को पिछाड देगा I

Now let me show you in practice.

इसका प्रात्यक्षिक दिखाता हूI

In this box is a standard, off-the-shelf LED lamp.

इस बक्से मे एक LED LAMP है I

This is a standard, off-the-shelf solar cell;

यह है एक सौर सेलI

it is connected to the laptop.

जोकि जुडा है इस लैपटॉप से

And also we have an instrument here

हमारे पास यह दुसरा एक उपकरण है I

to visualize the energy we harvest from the solar cell.

जो दिखायेगा सौरसेल से मिलने वाली उर्जा I

And this instrument shows something at the moment.

यह उपकरण अब ही कुछ दर्शाता हैI

This is because the solar cell already harvests light from the ambient light.

इसका कारण है इस पर रोशनी पड रही है |

Now what I would like to do first is switch on the light,

अभी प्रकाश का स्त्रोत बंद करता हू i

and I'll simply, only switch on the light,

इसलिए मैं लाईट का बटन बंद करता हू |

for a moment,

एक क्षण लिये |

and what you'll notice is that the instrument jumps to the right.

देखो यह उपकरण दाहीने उछला|

So the solar cell, for a moment,

इस समय सौरसेल

is harvesting energy from this artificial light source.

उर्जा पैदा कर रहा है कृत्रिम प्रकाश से

If I turn it off, we see it drops.

मैं अगर इसे बंद कर दूं यह कार्य करना बंद कर देगाI

I turn it on ...

मैं अभी चालू करता हू I

So we harvest energy with the solar cell.

हम सौर सेल से उर्जा का निर्माण कर सकते है|

But next I would like to activate the streaming of the video.

मुझे अभी दिखाना है संप्रेषित वीडियो का पारेषण .

And I've done this by pressing this button.

जोकि मैं इस बटन दबाने से करता हू i

So now this LED lamp here is streaming a video

देखो यह LED संप्रेषित वीडियो का पारेषण करता है|

by changing the brightness of the LED in a very subtle way,

रोशनी की धवलता सूक्ष्म तरीके से बदल कर यह पारेषण हो रहा है |

and in a way that you can't recognize with your eye,

आपकी आखे इसे नही पहचान पाती |

because the changes are too fast to recognize.

इसलिये कि यह तेज है

But in order to prove the point,

लेकिन इसे सिद्ध करने के लिये,

I can block the light of the solar cell.

मैं सौरसेल का प्रकाश अवरुद्ध करता हू |

So first you notice the energy harvesting drops

आप देख रहे है उर्जा निर्माण बंद ही हो गया

and the video stops as well.

और वीडियो भी बंद हुआ |

If I remove the blockage, the video will restart.

जैसे ही मैं अवरोध दूर करू वीडियो चलने लगेगा |

And I can repeat that.

मैं फिर इसे दोह्रराता हू |

So we stop the transmission of the video and energy harvesting stops as well.

जैसे हम वीडियो का पारेषण बंद करते है वैसे ही उर्जा का निर्माण बंद होता है |

So that is to show that the solar cell acts as a receiver.

यहां सौरसेल एक ग्राहक याने रिसिव्हर की तरह काम करता है |

But now imagine that this LED lamp is a street light, and there's fog.

कल्पना करो यह LED एक स्ट्रीट लाईट का है और कोहरा है I

And so I want to simulate fog,

मैं कृत्रिम कोहरा बनाता हू I

and that's why I brought a handkerchief with me.

इसके लिये मैं रुमाल का इस्तेमाल करुंगा

(Laughter)

And let me put the handkerchief over the solar cell.

मैं यह रुमाल सौर सेल पर रखता हू

First you notice

आपने देखा

the energy harvested drops, as expected,

उर्जा निर्मिती का मान घटा I

but now the video still continues.

लेकीन वीडियो चालू है I

This means, despite the blockage,

इसका मतलब है कि कोहरा होते भी

there's sufficient light coming through the handkerchief to the solar cell,

रुमाल का अवरोध होते भी पर्याप्त रोशनी सौर सेल ग्रहण कर रहा है I

so that the solar cell is able to decode and stream that information,

सौरसेल कम रोशनी मे भी वीडियो पारेषित करता है उसे डीकोड करके I

in this case, a high-definition video.

यह पारेषण हाय डेफिनेशन वीडियो का किया है

What's really important here is that a solar cell has become a receiver

इसका महत्व यह है कि एक सौर सेल रिसिव्हर बनाया जा सकता है I

for high-speed wireless signals encoded in light,

अति तीव्र वायरलेस सिग्नल जोकि इंनकोडेड है I

while it maintains its primary function as an energy-harvesting device.

यह करता है अपना मुल कार्य उर्जा निर्मिती का बिना बदले .

That's why it is possible

इसलिये यह हो सकता है I

to use existing solar cells on the roof of a hut

किसी भी झोपडी के छत का LED लैम्प इस्तेमाल करके

to act as a broadband receiver

हा उसे broadband receiver बना सकते है

from a laser station on a close by hill, or indeed, lamp post.

हम इस्तेमाल कर सकते है पर्वत के ऊँचे स्थित लैम्प, अथवा लैम्प पोस्ट

And It really doesn't matter where the beam hits the solar cell.

यह मायने नही रखता प्रकाश कहा से मिलता है

And the same is true

यह भी काम करेगा यदि

for translucent solar cells integrated into windows,

आप खिडकी पर लगे सौरसेल इस्तेमाल करे I

solar cells integrated into street furniture,

रास्ते पर लगे सौर सेल भी प्रयोग में लाये जा सकते हैI

or indeed, solar cells integrated into these billions of devices

करोडो साधनो मे सौरसेल होते है उन्हे भी हम प्रयोग में ला सकते है I

that will form the Internet of Things.

ज्योकी एक विशाल नेटवर्क बन सकता है

Because simply,

कारण है

we don't want to charge these devices regularly,

हमे इनको बारबार प्रभारित करना पसंद नही आता I

or worse, replace the batteries every few months.

कुछ दिन बाद बैटरी (BATTERY) बदलना भी नही भाता I

As I said to you,

जैसे मैं ने आपको बताया प्रारंभ मे

this is the first time I've shown this in public.

प्रात्यक्षिक पहली बार सार्वजनिक कर रहा हू I

It's very much a lab demonstration,

यह प्रयोगशाला में हो रहा है I

a prototype.

यह प्राथमिक स्तिथि मे है

But my team and I are confident that we can take this to market

मैं और मेरे टीम को विश्वास है हम इसे बाजार में जल्दी ले आयेंगे I

within the next two to three years.

यह दो या तीन साल मे हम हासील करेंगे I

And we hope we will be able to contribute to closing the digital divide,

जिससे हम गरीब अमीर के बीच के तंत्रज्ञान की खाई कम करने हमारा योगदान देंगेI

and also contribute

हमारा योगदान रहेगा

to connecting all these billions of devices to the Internet.

करोडो इंटरनेट साधनो को जुडने वास्ते

And all of this without causing

यह साध्य होता है बिना

a massive explosion of energy consumption --

उर्जा खपत का महा विस्फोट किये --

because of the solar cells, quite the opposite.

सौर सेल के कारण बिलकुल विपरीत
