I love coming to Doha. It's such an international place.

You land at the airport, and you're welcomed by an Indian lady

who then takes you to a Korean

You go to the hotel and you check in. There's a Lebanese.

"I was on my way home from the airport,

The Middle East has been an adventure the past couple of years.

Ladies and gentlemen of the Middle East, here's a serious issue.

When we see each other, when we say hello,

how many kisses are we going to do?

Every country is different and it's confusing, okay?

In Lebanon, they do three.

In Egypt, they do two.

I was in Lebanon, I got used to three.

I went to Egypt. I went to say hello to this one Egyptian guy,

मैं इजीप्ट पहुंचा, मैं हैलो करने एक इजीप्सिअन के पास आया,

I went, one, two. I went for three --

He wasn't into it.

वह इच्छुक न था।

I told him, I said, "No, no, I was just in Lebanon."

He goes, "I don't care where you were. You just stay where you are, please."

I went to Saudi Arabia.

In Saudi Arabia, they go one, two, and then they stay on the same side:

10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 --

Next time you see a Saudi, look closely.

They're just a little bit tilted.

Qataris, you guys do the nose to nose.

Why is that? Are you too tired to go all the way around?

"Habibi, it's so hot. Just come here for a second. Say hello.

हैलो, हबीबी। हिलना नहीं। ऐसे ही खड़े रहो, प्लीज।

I need to rest."

Iranians, sometimes we do two, sometimes we do three.

ईरानी, कभी दो करते है, कभी तीन।

A friend of mine explained to me, before the '79 revolution, it was two.

मेरे एक मित्र ने बताया '७९ क्रांति से पहले दो थे।

(Laughter)

After the revolution, three.

क्रांति के बाद, तीन।

So with Iranians, you can tell whose side the person is on

अतः ईरानीयों के सन्दर्भ में, आप बता सकते हो वे किस तरफ है

based on the number of kisses they give you.

But no, guys, really, it is exciting to be here,

Think about it. You never see us laughing in American film or television, right?

We like to laugh. We like to celebrate life.

And I wish more Americans would travel here.

मेरी इच्छा है ज्यादा-से-ज्यादा अमेरिकी यहाँ आये।

I always encourage my friends:

हमेशा अपने मित्रों से कहता हूँ:

"Travel, see the Middle East,

घूमों, मध्य-पूर्व देखों,

there's so much to see, so many good people."

काफी कुछ देखने को है यहाँ, ढेर सारे अच्छे लोग भी।"

And it's vice versa, and it helps stop problems

और इसके उलटे भी, यह कई समस्यायों;

of misunderstanding and stereotypes from happening.

For example, I don't know if you heard about this,

a little while ago in the US, there was a Muslim family

walking down the aisle of an airplane,

एक हवाई जहाज के गलियारे से गुजरते हुए,

talking about the safest place to sit on the plane.

बैठने हेतु सबसे सुरक्षित स्थान के बारे में बातें कर रहे थे।

Some passengers overheard them,

कुछ यात्रीअों ने उन्हें सुना,

somehow misconstrued that as terrorist talk,

और किसी प्रकार गलती से आतंकी बातचीत समझ ली

got them kicked off the plane.

और उन्हें जहाज से बाहर करवा दिया।

It was a family, a mother, father, child, talking about the seating.

एक परिवार, माता, पिता, बच्चे, बैठने पर बात करते हुए।

As a Middle Eastern male,

मध्य-पूर्व वासी के रूप में,

I know there's certain things I'm not supposed to say

मैं भिज्ञ हूँ कुछ ऐसी बातें जो मुझे नहीं कहनी है,

on an airplane in the US, right?

हवाई जहाज पर, अमेरिका में, सही?

I'm not supposed to be walking down the aisle,

and be like, "Hi, Jack." That's not cool.

"हाय, जैक।", यह सही नहीं है।

Even if I'm there with my friend named Jack, I say,

"Greetings, Jack. Salutations, Jack."

Never "Hi, Jack."

But now, apparently we can't even talk

So my advice to all my Middle Eastern friends and Muslim friends

and anyone who looks Middle Eastern or Muslim,

और कोई भी जो मध्य-पूर्वी या मुस्लिम दिखता हो,

so to, you know, Indians, and Latinos, everyone, if you're brown --

Here's my advice to my brown friends.

Granted, some mother tongues might sound a little threatening

to the average American.
