I was hoping today to talk a little bit about creativity.

আর যুক্তিযুক্তভাবেও তাই।

আসলে আমরা সবাই আমাদের প্রতিভাকে একটু সন্দেহ করি।

You know, a lot of people really struggle

আমার একটি কাহিনি মনে পরে যা আমার ২০ এর দশকের গোড়ার দিকে ঘটেছিল

to give themselves permission to be creative.

যা আমার কাছে অনেক মূল্যবান ছিল।

And reasonably so.

I mean, we're all a little suspect of our own talent.

তখন আমি আলেন গিন্সবার্গ এর ভক্ত ছিলাম

And I remember a story I came across in my early 20s

আর আমি তাঁর কবিতা পরতাম,

that kind of meant a lot to me.

I was really into Allen Ginsberg,

and I was reading his poetry,

and I was reading -- he did a lot of interviews --

আর গিন্সবার্গ সেখানে গেলেন এবং হাঁরে কৃষ্ণা গানটা গেলেন

and one time, William F. Buckley had this television program

আর তিনি যখন নিউ ইয়র্কে তাঁর বুদ্ধিমান বন্ধুদের কাছে গেলেন

called "Firing Line,"

and Ginsberg went on there and sang a Hare Krishna song

while playing the harmonium.

আর সারা দেশ তোমাকে নিয়ে মজা করছে?"

And he got back to New York to all his intelligentsia friends,

and they all told him,

"Don't you know that everybody thinks you're an idiot,

and the whole country's making fun of you?"

And he said, "That's my job.

I'm a poet, and I'm going to play the fool.

Most people have to go to work all day long,

and they come home and they fight with their spouse,

and they eat, and they turn on the old boob tube,

and somebody tries to sell them something,

and I just screwed all that up.

I went on and I sang about Krishna,

আর আমার কাছে এইটা অনেক মুক্তিকর মনে হয়েছিল

and now they're sitting in bed and going, 'Who is this stupid poet?'

কারণ আমার কাছে লাগে যে আমরা সবাই বিশ্বকে কিছু দিতে চাই

And they can't fall asleep, right?"

And that's his job as a poet.

গুণবান কিছু,

এমন কিছু যা পৃথিবী ভাল বা জরুরি মনে করবে।

And so, I find that very liberating,

because I think that most of us really want to offer the world

something of quality,

something that the world will consider good or important.

And that's really the enemy,

because it's not up to us whether what we do is any good,

and if history has taught us anything,

the world is an extremely unreliable critic.

So you have to ask yourself:

Do you think human creativity matters?

তাদের জীবন যাপন করা লাগে,

আর তাই তারা আলেন গিন্সবার্গ এর কবিতা নিয়ে এত চিন্তিত না

Well, hmm.

Most people don't spend a lot of time thinking about poetry. Right?

কারো কবিটা নিয়েই চিন্তিত না,

যতক্ষণ না পর্যন্ত তাদের পিতা মারা যান,

They have a life to live,

তারা কোনো শবযাত্রাই যান

and they're not really that concerned with Allen Ginsberg's poems

or anybody's poems,

until their father dies,

and all of a sudden,

you're desperate for making sense out of this life,

বা উল্টা হয়- যা অনেক ভাল কিছু

তুমি কারো সাথে দেখা কর এবং আনন্দে তোমার হৃদয় বিস্ফোরিত হয় যায়

and, "Has anybody ever felt this bad before?

তুমি তাদের অনেক ভালোবাসো,

How did they come out of this cloud?"

তুমি হতবুদ্ধি হারিয়ে ফেল

তোমার লাগে যে,” কেউ কি এইরকম অনুভব করেছে? আমার সাথে এইরকম হচ্ছে কেন?”

Or the inverse -- something great.

You meet somebody and your heart explodes.

আর তখনই শিল্প বিলাসিতা না, শিল্প চাহিদা হয় যায়।

You love them so much, you can't even see straight.

You know, you're dizzy.

আর আমাদের এটি দরকার।

"Did anybody feel like this before? What is happening to me?"

আচ্ছা। তাহলে, শিল্প কি?

মানুষের সৃজনশীলটা হল আমাদের জন্য প্রকৃতির আশীর্বাদ

And that's when art's not a luxury, it's actually sustenance.

We need it.

আর আমরা আররা বরালিস এর দিকে তাকাই

OK. Well, what is it?

Human creativity is nature manifest in us.

না?

আমি ছোট থাকতে একটা সিনেমা করেছিলাম ওয়াইট ফেং” নামে

We look at the, oh ...

আমরা আলাস্কায় শুটিং করেছিলাম

আমরা রাতে বের হয়ে ছিলাম

আর আমরা দেখলাম যে আকাশ বেগুনি, গুলাপি আর সাদা রঙ্গে ছেয়ে গিয়েছে

the aurora borealis. Right?

আর সেটা আমার দেখা সবচেয়ে সুন্দর ছিল।

I did this movie called "White Fang" when I was a kid,

and we shot up in Alaska,

এমন লাগছিল যেন আকাশটা খেলা করছে।

and you go out at night

অপূর্ব।

and the sky was like rippling with purple and pink and white,

আমরা সন্ধ্যাবেলা গ্র্যান্ড ক্যানয়োন এ যাই

জায়গাটা অনেক সুন্দর

and it's the most beautiful thing I ever saw.

আমরা জানি এটি সুন্দর

It really looked like the sky was playing.

Beautiful.

আমার ৪টা বাচ্চা আছে।

You go to Grand Canyon at sundown.

It's beautiful.

We know that's beautiful.

But fall in love?

বা বাসায় দৌড়া দৌড়ই করতে দেখা আর যেকোন কিছু করতে দেখা

Your lover's pretty beautiful.

এইটা এতো সুন্দর।

I have four kids.

Watching them play?

আমার বিশ্বাস আমরা মহাবিশ্বের এই তারায় আছি

Watching them pretend to be a butterfly

or run around the house and doing anything,

একজন আরেকজনকে সাহায্য করার জন্য। না?

it's so beautiful.

কিন্তু আমাদের প্রথমে টিকে থাকা লাগবে।

And I believe that we are here on this star in space

আর তারপর আমাদের প্রতিষ্ঠিত হতে হবে।

আর প্রতিষ্ঠিত, প্রকাশিত হতে হলে,

to try to help one another. Right?

তাইলে এখানে একটা বাঁধা আছেঃ আমাদের নিজেকে জানতে হবে।

And first we have to survive,

তুমি কি ভালোবাসো তা জানতে হবে।

and then we have to thrive.

আর আমরা যদি তুমি কি ভালোবাসো তার কাছে যেতে পারি তাহলে,

And to thrive, to express ourselves,

তুমি তোমার নিজের কাছে প্রকাশিত হবে

alright, well, here's the rub: we have to know ourselves.

আর এইটা বৃদ্ধি পাবে।

আমার জন্য এটা অনেক সহজ ছিল।

What do you love?

আমি ১২ বছর বয়সে প্রথম পেশাদার নাটক করি।

And if you get close to what you love,

আমি জর্জ বারনার্ডের নাটক “সেন্ট জওয়ান” এ অভিনয় করেছিলাম

who you are is revealed to you,

and it expands.

For me, it was really easy.

আর...বুম...আমি প্রেমে পরে গেলাম।

I did my first professional play. I was 12 years old.

আর আমার পৃথিবী বড় হয়ে গেল।

I was in a play called "Saint Joan" by George Bernard Shaw

আর এই পেশায়... আমার বয়স এখন প্রায় ৫০...

at the McCarter Theatre,

আর এই পেশা আমাকে কখন দেওয়া বন্ধ করেনি।

and -- boom! -- I was in love.

আর এইটা আমাকে প্রতিবার কিছু না কিছু ফেরত দেয়

My world just expanded.

অধিকাংশ ক্ষেত্রে, আশ্চর্যজনক ভাবে,

And that profession -- I'm almost 50 now --

আমার চরিত্রের ধাঁরা।

that profession has never stopped giving back to me,

আমি পুলিশ হয়েছি ,আমি অপরাধী হয়েছি

and it gives back more and more,

আমি পণ্ডিত হয়েছি, আমি পাপী হয়েছি।

mostly, strangely,

through the characters that I've played.

I've played cops, I've played criminals,

I've played priests, I've played sinners,

and the magic of this over a lifetime, over 30 years of doing this,

is that you start to see that my experiences,

I have so much in common with all these people.

And so they have something in common with me.

You start to see how connected we all are.

My great-grandmother, Della Hall Walker Green,

on her deathbed,

আর তিনি ৫ পৃষ্ঠা ভরে লিখেছিলেন,

she wrote this little biography in the hospital,

এমন একসময় এর কথা যখন তিনি একটা নাটকের জন্য পোশাক বানিয়েছিলেন।

and it was only about 36 pages long,

তিনি তাঁর প্রথম স্বামী নিয়ে মাত্র একটা অধ্যায় লিখেছিলেন।

and she spent about five pages

তিনি ৫০ বছর যে তুলা চাষ করেছিলেন তার কথা মাত্র একবার লিখেন।

on the one time she did costumes for a play.

৫ পৃষ্ঠা শুধু পোশাক বানান নাটক!!!

Her first husband got, like, a paragraph.

আর আমি দেখি-- আমার মা আমাকে তাঁর বানানো একটা জাজিম দেন,

Cotton farming, of which she did for 50 years, gets a mention.

আর তুমি জিনিশটা অনুভব করতে পার।

তিনি নিজেকে প্রকাশ করেছিলেন,

Five pages on doing these costumes.

আর এটার একটি শক্তি আছে যা আসল।

And I look -- my mom gave me one of her quilts that she made,

আমার মনে আছে যে আমি আর আমার সৎভাই “টপ গান” দেখতে গিয়েছিলাম,

and you can feel it.

যে বছর সেটা প্রকাশিত হয়েছিল।

She was expressing herself,

আর আমার মনে আছে যে আমরা মল থেকে বের হয়েছিলাম আর সেদিন অনেক গরম ছিল

and it has a power that's real.

I remember my stepbrother and I went to go see "Top Gun,"

আমি তার দিকে তাকালাম,

আর আমাদের দুজনেরই লাগল যে এটা ভগবানের ইশারা ছিল

whatever year that came out.

And I remember we walked out of the mall, it was, like, blazing hot,

তুমি জান? শুধু....

I just looked at him,

যেমন, আমি অভিনয়শিল্পী হতে চাইতাম।

and we both felt that movie just like a calling from God.

You know? Just ...

আর সে মিলিটারিতে যুগ দিতে চাইত।

But completely differently.

Like, I wanted to be an actor.

তাই আমরা সব সময় এফবিয়াই সাজতাম, সেনাবাহিনী সাজতাম

I was like, I've got to make something that makes people feel.

আর আমি আমার তলোয়ার নিয়ে অঙ্গভঙ্গি করতাম,

I just want to be a part of that.

আর সে আড় ধনুক বানাত,

And he wanted to be in the military.

যেটা দিয়ে গাছে তীর মারা যেত।

That's all we ever did was play FBI, play army man,

তো সে সেনাবাহিনীতে যোগ দিল।

সে কিছু দিন আগে গ্রীন বেরেট থেকে কর্নেল হিসেবে অবসর নিয়েছে।

play knights, you know, and I'd like, pose with my sword,

and he would build a working crossbow

সে আফগানিস্তান আর ইরাকে মালটি ডেকোরেটেড কমবেট ভেটেরান ছিল।

that you could shoot an arrow into a tree.

So he joins the army.

সে এখন সেইল ক্যাম্পে শহীদ সৈনিকদের বাচ্চাদের পড়ায় ।

Well, he just retired a colonel in the Green Berets.

সে তার জীবন তার শখের জন্য উৎসর্গ করেছে।

He's a multidecorated combat veteran of Afghanistan and Iraq.

তার সৃজনশীলতা ছিল নেতৃত্ব,

He now teaches a sail camp for children of fallen soldiers.

অন্যদের পরিচালনা করা,

তার সাহসিকতা, অন্যদের সাহায্য করা।

আর এটা এমন কিছু ছিল যা সে করতে চাইত

He gave his life to his passion.

His creativity was leadership,

আর এটা তাকে প্রতিদান দেয়।

আর আমরা এইটা জানি-- আমাদের জীবন অনেক ছোট,

leading others,

his bravery, to help others.

আর আমরা কিভাবে জীবন যাপন করছি

That was something he felt called to do,

আমাদের কাছে যা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ আমরা কি তা করছি?

and it gave back to him.

অনেকেই করে না।

We know this -- the time of our life is so short,

এটা অনেক কঠিন

অভ্যাসের টান অনেক বিশাল

and how we spend it --

are we spending it doing what's important to us?

আর এটাই বাচ্চাদের এতো সুন্দরভাবে সৃজনশীল করে তুলে।

Most of us not.

I mean, it's hard.

আর তারা এইটায় ভালো না খারাপ তা নিয়ে চিন্তা করে না, তাই না?

The pull of habit is so huge,

তারা বালির দুর্গ এটা ভেবে বানাচ্ছে না যে,

and that's what makes kids so beautifully creative,

′ আমি একদিন একটা ভালো বালির দুর্গ এর নির্মাতা হব“।

is that they don't have any habits,

তাদেরকে আপনি যা দিবেন সে তাই নিয়ে মেতে উঠবে,

and they don't care if they're any good or not, right?

They're not building a sandcastle going,

নাচ, পেইন্টিং করা,

"I think I'm going to be a really good sandcastle builder."

They just throw themselves at whatever project you put in front of them --

dancing, doing a painting,

building something:

any opportunity they have,

they try to use it to impress upon you their individuality.

কারণ এটার মাঝে এমন একটা জিনিস আছে যা চমৎকার

It's so beautiful.

বা এটার মধ্যে একটা উষ্ণতা আছে বা এটা মনোরম।

It's a thing that worries me sometimes whenever you talk about creativity,

কিন্তু এটা না।

এটা অত্যাবশ্যক।

because it can have this kind of feel that it's just nice,

এই ভাবে আমরা একজন আরেকজনকে নিরাময় করি।

you know, or it's warm or it's something pleasant.

আমাদের গান গাওয়ার দিয়ে,

আমাদের গল্প বলাতে,

It's not.

আপনাকে এটা বলার আমন্ত্রণ জানতে যে,

It's vital.

It's the way we heal each other.

" আপনি আমার কথা শুনুন এবং আমি আপনার কথা শুনব“,

এটা দিয়ে আমরা একটা সংলাপ শুরু করছি।

In singing our song,

in telling our story,

এবং যখন আপনি এটি করছেন তখন এই নিরাময় ঘটেছে,

in inviting you to say,

"Hey, listen to me, and I'll listen to you,"

আর আমরা আমাদের কোণা থেকে বের হয়ে আসি,

আর আমরা একজন আরেকজন মানবতা দেখা শুরু করি।

we're starting a dialogue.

আমরা এটাই জোর দেওয়া শুরু করি।

And when you do that, this healing happens,

and we come out of our corners,

তাই, তুমি যদি নিজের সম্প্রদায়ের সাহায্য করতে চাও,

and we start to witness each other's common humanity.

We start to assert it.

যদি তোমার বন্ধুদের সাহায্য করতে চাও,

And when we do that, really good things happen.

তাইলে তোমার নিজেকে প্রকাশ করা লাগবে।

আর তোমার নিজে প্রকাশ করার জন্য, তোমার নিজেকে জানা লাগবে।

So, if you want to help your community, if you want to help your family,

এটা কিন্তু আসলে অনেক সহজ

if you want to help your friends,

তোমার শুধু তোমার ভালবাসাকে অনুসরণ করা লাগবে।

you have to express yourself.

এখানে কোনো পথ নেই।

And to express yourself, you have to know yourself.

তুমি না হাঁটা পর্যন্ত কোনো পথ নেই,

It's actually super easy.

You just have to follow your love.

আর তোমাকে বোকা হতে ইচ্ছুক হতে হবে।

তাই যে বইটা পরা লাগবে সেই বইটা পড়িও না

There is no path.

There's no path till you walk it,

যে বইটা তুমি পরতে চাও সে বইটা পড়।

যে গান তোমার ভালো লাগত সে গান শুনো না।

and you have to be willing to play the fool.

So don't read the book that you should read,

একটু সময় নিয়ে নতুন কিছু গান শুনো.

একটু সময় নিয়ে তোমরা যার সাথে সাধারণত কথা বল না তার সাথে কথা বল।

read the book you want to read.

Don't listen to the music that you used to like.

আমি গ্যারান্টি দিচ্ছি, যদি তুমি সেটি করো

Take some time to listen to some new music.

তোমার নিজেকে বোকা মনে হবে।

এটাই আসল কথা.

Take some time to talk to somebody that you don't normally talk to.

বোকা সাজ।

I guarantee, if you do that,

you will feel foolish.

That's the point.

Play the fool.

(গিটার বাজায়)

(গান গেয়ে) আমি অস্টিনে যেতে চাই এবং আমি বাড়িতে থাকতে চাই।

(Plays guitar)

আমাদের বন্ধুদের আমন্ত্রণ জানিয়েও একা থাকলাম।

বিপদের জন্য বেঁচে থাক।

(Sings) Well, I want to go Austin, and I wanna stay home.

শান্ত সাজ।

সবাই আমাকে সম্মান করুন বোকা হওয়ার জন্য।

Invite our friends over but still be alone.

Live for danger.

Play it cool.

Have everyone respect me for being a fool.
