Beginning in the 3rd century, before the coming era,

During the Roman occupation,

After the Roman Empire collapsed,

That same year, Christopher Columbus sailed across the Atlantic Ocean,

Some of these words describe things

There's no easy answer to this question.

Other languages that spread through colonialism, like French,
