I have a friend named Kaveh Akbar, who is a fellow poet.

ကျွန်မမှာ Kaveh Akbar ဆိုတဲ့ မိတ်ဆွေ တစ်ယောက်ရှိတယ်၊ ကဗျာဆရာတစ်ယောက်ပါ။

And Kaveh found this photo online

Kaveh ဟာ ဒီဓာတ်ပုံကို အွန်လိုင်းမှာတွေ့ခဲ့တယ်၊

of the anatomical heart of a blue whale

သိပ္ပံညာရှင်တွေက မျက်နှာကျက်က ချိတ်မှာ

that scientists had hung on a hook from the ceiling,

ချိတ်ထားတဲ့ ဝေလငါးပြာရဲ့ ခန္ဓာဗေဒ နှလုံးပုံပါ။

which is how they were able to observe that the heart of a blue whale

ဝေလငါးပြာရဲ့ နှလုံးဟာ အတွင်းဘက်မှာ လူတစ်ယောက် လုံးလုံး

is big enough that a person can stand up fully inside of it.

မတ်တတ်ရပ်နိုင်လောက်တဲ့အထိ ကြီးမားတာကို လေ့လာနိုင်စွမ်းရှိပုံပါ။

And when Kaveh shared this photo online,

Kaveh က ဒီဓာတ်ပုံကို အွန်လိုင်းမှာ မျှဝေတော့

he did so with the caption,

စာတန်းလေးတပ်ခဲ့တယ်၊

"This is another reminder

"ဒါက စကြာဝဠာက သင်ရေးဖို့ ရည်ရွယ်နေတဲ့

that the universe has already written the poem you were planning on writing."

ကဗျာကို ရေးနှင့်ပြီးပြီဆိုတဲ့ နောက်ထပ် သတိပေးချက် တစ်ခုပါ။"

And when I first saw that, I was horrified.

ကျွန်မ ဒါကို ပထမဆုံးမြင်တော့ ထိတ်လန့်သွားတယ်။

I was like, "Come on, man! I'm trying to invent new metaphors!

ပြောမိတာက "ကဲ ကိုယ့်လူရေ၊ ဥပစာအသစ်တွေ ဖန်တီးဖို့ ကြိုးစားနေတယ်၊

I'm trying to discover beauty that hasn't been discovered yet.

ရှာမတွေ့သေးတဲ့ အလှအပကိုရှာတွေ့ဖို့ ကြိုးစားနေတယ်။

What do you mean, the universe is always going to get there before me?"

စကြာဝဠာက ကျွန်မရဲ့အရင် အမြဲတမ်း ရောက်နေတော့မယ်ဆိုတာ ဘာကိုဆိုလိုတာလဲ"

And I know this isn't a uniquely poet problem,

ဒါက တစ်ဘာသာဖြစ်နေတဲ့ ကဗျာဆရာ ပြဿနာတစ်ခုမဟုတ်တာ ကျွန်မသိပေမဲ့

but on days when the world feels especially big

ကမ္ဘာကြီးက အထူးတလည် ကြီးမားတာ (သို့) အထူးတလည် မဖြစ်နိုင်တာ၊

or especially impossible

(သို့) အထူးတလည် ခမ်းနားမှုနဲ့ ပြည့်နေတယ်လို့

or especially full of grandeur,

ခံစားမိတဲ့ နေ့တွေမှာ

those are the days when I feel,

ဒီနေ့တွေမှာ ကျွန်မ ခံစားမိတာက

"What do I possibly have to contribute

"ဒါအားလုံးအတွက် ငါ ဖြည့်ဆည်းပေးဖို့လိုတာ

to all of this?"

ဘာဖြစ်နိုင်လဲ။"

Not long ago, I saw this video that some of you may have seen.

တစ်လောက ဒီဗီဒီယိုကို တွေ့ခဲ့တယ်။ တစ်ချို့ မြင်ပြီးလောက်ပြီ။

It makes the internet rounds every couple of months.

ဒါက တစ်လ၊နှစ်ကို တစ်ကြိမ်လောက် အင်တာနက်ကို ဝိုင်းအုံစေတယ်။

There are these birds that are called starlings,

ကျွဲဆက်ရက်ဆိုတဲ့ ငှက်တွေရှိတယ်၊

and they fly in what's called a "murmuration,"

"တတွတ်တွတ်မြည်သံ"တစ်ခုလို့ ဆိုတာထဲမှာ သူတို့ ပျံသန်းတယ်၊

which is generally just a big cloud of birds.

အများအားဖြင့်တော့ ငှက်အုပ်ကြီးတစ်အုပ်ပါ။

And someone happened to catch a quick video on their phone

လူတစ်ယောက်က ကျွဲဆက်ရက်တွေ ပျံနေတဲ့ ဗိဒီယိုအတိုတစ်ခုကို

of these starlings flying.

သူ့ဖုန်းမှာ ရိုက်ဖြစ်သွားတယ်။

And at first, it's just an amorphous blob,

ပထမတော့ ပုံဖမ်းမရတဲ့ ဆေးစက်တစ်စက်ပေါ့၊

and then there's a moment where the birds shift,

နောက်တော့ ငှက်တွေ ရွေ့ပြောင်းတဲ့ ကာလတစ်ခုရှိကာ

and they form the shape of a starling

ကောင်းကင်မှာ ကျွဲဆက်ရက်တစ်ကောင်ရဲ့

in the sky!

သဏ္ဏာန် ပေါ်သွားတယ်။

(Laughter)

And as soon as I saw it, I was like,

ဒါကို မြင်မြင်ချင်းပဲ ပြောမိသွားတာက

(Gasps) "The universe has already written the poem

(ပင့်သက်ရှိုက်ရင်း)" စကြာဝဠာက သင်ရေးဖို့ ရည်ရွယ်နေတဲ့

you were planning on writing!"

ကဗျာကို ရေးနှင့်ပြီးပြီ"တဲ့။

(Laughter)

Except, for the first time, it didn't fill me with despair.

ပထမဆုံးအနေနဲ့ ကျွန်မကို စိတ်ပျက် လက်ပျက် မဖြစ်စေတာက လွဲရင်ပေါ့။

Instead, I thought, "OK.

ဒီအစား တွေးမိတာက "ကောင်းပြီ၊

Maybe it's not my job to invent something new.

အသစ်တစ်ခုခုထွင်ဖို့က ငါ့အလုပ် မဖြစ်လောက်ဘူး

Maybe instead it's my job to listen to what the universe is showing me

ဖြစ်လောက်တာက စကြာဝဠာက ငါ့ကိုပြနေတာကို နားထောင်ဖို့၊

and to keep myself open to what the universe offers,

စကြာဝဠာက ငါ့ကို ကမ်းလှမ်းတာကို လက်ခံယူဖို့ ငါ့အလုပ်ဆိုတာထက်

so that when it's my turn,

ငါ့အလှည့်ရောက်တဲ့အခါ

I can hold something to the light,

အလင်းဆီမှာ တစ်ခုခု ဆုပ်ကိုင်နိုင်ဖို့ပါ၊

just for a moment,

ခဏလေးဖြစ်ဖြစ်ပေါ့

just for as long as I have.

ငါမှာ ရှိသလောက်ပေါ့။

The universe has already written the poem

စကြာဝဠာက သင်ရေးဖို့

that you were planning on writing.

ရည်ရွယ်နေတဲ့ ကဗျာကို ရေးနှင့်ပြီးပြီ။

And this is why

ဒါကြောင့်ပဲ

you can do nothing but point at the flock of starlings

ကျွဲဆက်ရက်တွေကို လက်ညှိုး ညွှန်ရုံကလွဲပြီး ဘာမှ သင်မလုပ်နိုင်ဘူး။

whose bodies rise and fall in inherited choreography,

အမွေရထားတဲ့ အကဗေဒမှာ ခန္ဓာကိုယ်တွေ မြင့်လိုက်၊နိမ့်လိုက်နဲ့၊

swarming the sky in a sweeping curtain

ကျယ်ပြန့်တဲ့ ခန်းဆီးတစ်ခုထဲက အုံခဲနေတဲ့ ကောင်းကင်က

that, for one blistering moment,

မြန်လွန်းတဲ့ တဒင်္ဂအတွက်

forms the unmistakeable shape

မမှားနိုင်တဲ့ ဧရာမ ငှက်ကြီးရဲ့သဏ္ဌာန်ကို

of a giant bird

ပုံဖော်တယ်၊

flapping against the sky.

ကောင်းကင်မှာ တောင်ပံခပ်ရင်းပေါ့။

It is why your mouth forms an "o"

ဒါကြောင့်ပဲ သင့်ပါးစပ်မှာ "အို"လို့ တ၊

that is not a gasp,

ဒါဟာ ပင့်သင့်တစ်ခု မဟုတ်ပါ။

but rather, the beginning of,

ဒါပေမဲ့ တကယ်တမ်းက

"Oh. Of course."

"အိုး၊ တကယ်ပဲနော်" ရဲ့ အစပါ။

As in, of course the heart of a blue whale is as large as a house

တကယ်တော့ ဝေလငါးပြာတစ်ကောင်ရဲ့ နှလုံးအတွင်းပိုင်းလောက် ကြီးမားတဲ့

with chambers tall enough to fit a person standing.

လူတစ်ယောက် မတ်တတ်ရပ်ဖို့ ဆန့်အောင် မြင့်တဲ့ အခန်းတွေနဲ့ အိမ်တစ်လုံးပါ

Of course a fig becomes possible

တကယ်တမ်းတော့ သဖန်းသီး တစ်လုံးက ယုတ္တိတန်လာတယ်

when a lady wasp lays her eggs inside a flower,

နကျယ်မတစ်ကောင် ပန်းတစ်ပွင့်ထဲမှာ ဥတွေဉတယ်၊

dies and decomposes,

သေပြီး ဆွေးမြေ့သွားတဲ့အခါ

the fruit, evidence of her transformation.

သစ်သီး၊ သူ့ရဲ့ ပြောင်းလဲခြင်းရဲ့ သက်သေပေါ့။

Sometimes, the poem is so bright,

တစ်ခါတစ်ရံမှာ ကဗျာက သိပ်တောက်ပတော့

your silly language will not stick to it.

မင်းရဲ့ ကလေးကလား ဘာသာစကားက ဒီမှာ စွဲမြဲမှာ မဟုတ်ဘူး။

Sometimes, the poem is so true,

တစ်ခါတစ်ရံ ကဗျာက သိပ် စစ်မှန်တော့

nobody will believe you.

ဘယ်သူမှ မင်းကို ယုံမှာမဟုတ်ဘူး။

I am a bird

ငါဟာ ငှက်တွေနဲ့လုပ်ထားတဲ့

made of birds.

ငှက်တစ်ကောင်ပါ။

This blue heart a house you can stand up inside of.

ဒီအပြာရောင် နှလုံးသား အိမ်ရဲ့ အတွင်းမှာ မင်း မတ်တတ်ရပ်လို့ရတယ်၊

I am dying

ငါက သေလုလု

here

ဒီမှာလေ

inside this flower.

ဒီပန်းပွင့်ထဲမှာပေါ့။

It is OK.

အဆင်ပြေပါတယ်၊

It is what I was put here to do.

ဒီမှာ ဒါလုပ်ဖို့ ငါကိုထားခဲ့တာလေ

Take this fruit.

ဒိသစ်သီးကို ယူပါ၊

It is what I have to offer.

ငါပေးစရာရှိတာက ဒါပဲလေ။

It may not be first,

ပထမ (သို့) အကောင်းဆုံး

or ever best,

မဖြစ်လောက်ပေမဲ့

but it is the only way to be sure

ငါဟာ လုံးဝ ရှင်သန်ခဲ့တာ

that I lived at all.

သေချာစေဖို့ တစ်ခုတည်းသော နည်းလမ်ပါ။
