If you're trying to CRISPR a genome,

That's how it works.

It's a two-part system.

You've got a Cas9 protein and something called a guide RNA.

It's a system that we stole

This makes it a remarkably easy and powerful system to use.

The guide RNA and the Cas9 protein complex together

and when they find a spot where the guide RNA matches,

There are two major repair pathways.

The second repair pathway is a lot more interesting.

The way that we can hijack this

We're going to explore that a little bit.

is that CRISPR is being used by thousands and thousands of scientists

to do really, really important work,

တကယ့် တကယ် အရေးပါတာတွေ လုပ်ဖို့

like making better models of diseases in animals, for example,

ဥပမာ တိရိစ္ဆာန်တွေမှာ ရောဂါမော်ဒယ် ကောင်းကောင်းရအောင်

or for taking pathways that produce valuable chemicals

ဒါမှမဟုတ် တန်ဖိုးရှိတဲ့ ဓာတုပစ္စည်းတွေထုတ် လမ်းစဉ်တွေ ရှာပြီး

and getting them into industrial production in fermentation vats,

စက်မှုအဆင့်ထုတ်လုပ်မှုနဲ့ ဆေးထုတ်စက်တွေဆီရောက်ဖို့ ဒါမှမဟုတ်

or even doing really basic research on what genes do.

ဗီဇတွေက ဘာလုပ်ကြတာလဲဆိုတဲ့ အခြေခံ သုသေသနတွေပေါ့။

This is the story of CRISPR we should be telling,

ဒါက ကျမတို့တွေပြောသင့်တဲ့ CRISPR ဇာတ်လမ်းပါ။

and I don't like it that the flashier aspects of it

နောက်ပြီး ကျမမကြိုက်တာက CRISPRရဲ့လူစိတ်ဝင်စားမှုများတဲ့ အပိုင်းက

are drowning all of this out.

အရေးပါတာတွေကို ဖုံးပစ်လိုက်တာပဲ။

Lots of scientists did a lot of work to make CRISPR happen,

သိပ္ပံပညာရှင် အများကြီးက CRISPR ပေါ်ပေါက်အောင် ကြိုးစားလုပ်ခဲ့ရတယ်။

and what's interesting to me

ကျမကို စိတ်ဝင်စားစေတာက

is that these scientists are being supported by our society.

ဒီသိပ္ပံပညာရှင်တွေကို လူထုက ပံ့ပိုးနေတာပဲ။

Think about it.

စဉ်းစားကြည့်ပါ။

We've got an infrastructure that allows a certain percentage of people

လူထု ရာခိုင်နှုန်းတစ်ခုရဲ့ အချိန်တွေ အားလုံး သုံးပြီး သုသေသန

to spend all their time doing research.

လုပ်နိုင်စေတဲ့ အခြေခံအင်အားနဲ့ အဆောက်အဦးတွေ ကျမတို့မှာ ရှိတယ်။

That makes us all the inventors of CRISPR,

ဒါက ကျမတို့တွေအားလုံးကို CRISPR တီထွင်သူတွေ ဖြစ်စေတယ်

and I would say that makes us all the shepherds of CRISPR.

ကျမတို့အားလုံးကို CRISPR သိုးထိန်းတွေ ဖြစ်စေတယ်လို့လည်း ပြောချင်တယ်

We all have a responsibility.

အားလုံးမှာ တာဝန်ရှိတယ်

So I would urge you to really learn about these types of technologies,

ဒါကြောင့် ဒီလိုနည်းပညာတွေကို တကယ် လေ့လာဖို့ ကျမတိုက်တွန်းချင်တယ်

because, really, only in that way

ဘာလို့လဲဆိုတော အဲ့လိုမှသာ

are we going to be able to guide the development of these technologies,

ဒီလိုနည်းပညာတွေရဲ့ တိုးတက်မှုတွေ၊ အသုံးတွေ၊

the use of these technologies

ပြီးတော့ နောက်ဆုံးမှာ ကမ္ဘာကြီးနဲ့

and make sure that, in the end, it's a positive outcome --

ကျမတို့အတွက်ရလဒ်က အကောင်းပဲဖြစ်ဖို့ ဆိုတာသေချာစေဖို့ အတွက်

for both the planet and for us.
