I will try to explain to you about the context of why

and when I posted.

A few days ago, I was sitting waiting

며칠 전에, 식료품 가게에서 줄을 서서

on the line at the grocery store,

기다리고 있었는데,

and the owner and one of the clients

가게 주인과 손님이 서로

were talking to each other,

얘기하고 있더군요.

and the owner was explaining to the client

가게 주인은 손님에게 이스라엘에

that we're going to get 10,000 missiles on Israel.

1만개의 미사일이 날아올거라고 얘기했어요.

And the client was saying, no, it's 10,000 a day.

그랬더니 손님은 "아니, 하루에 1만개겠죠."라고 하는 겁니다.

(Laughter)

(웃음)

("10,000 missiles") This is the context. This is where we are now in Israel.

(1만개의 미사일) 이게 바로 그 배경입니다. 이게 지금 이스라엘의 상황이에요.

We have this war with Iran coming for 10 years now,

우리는 올해로 10년 째 이란과 전쟁을 벌이고 있습니다.

and we have people, you know, afraid.

그리고 많은 사람들이 공포에 떨고 있죠.

It's like every year it's the last minute

해마다 이란과의 전쟁에서 우리가

that we can do something about the war with Iran.

무언가를 할 수 있는 마지막 순간 같습니다.

It's like, if we don't act now, it's too late forever,

우리가 지금 나서지 않으면 너무 늦을 것 같아요.

for 10 years now.

지금 10년째잖아요.

So at some point it became, you know, to me,

그래서 어느 시점에서부턴가

I'm a graphic designer, so I made posters about it

그래픽 디자이너인 저는여기에 관련된 포스터를 만들어서

and I posted the one I just showed you before.

아까 여러분께 보여드린 포스터를 올렸던 것이지요.

Most of the time, I make posters, I post them on Facebook,

대부분 제가 포스터를 만들고페이스북에 올릴 때마다,

my friends like it, don't like it,

제 친구들은 좋아요를 하네 마네,

most of the time don't like it, don't share it,

거의 대부분의 경우 좋아하지도 않고,공유도 안하고

don't nothing,

아무것도 하지 않았죠.

and it's another day.

그렇게 똑같은 하루가 지나갑니다.

So I went to sleep, and that was it for me.

그리고 저는 잠을 자러 가면 그만이었죠.

And later on in the night, I woke up

그리고 어느날 밤, 저는 잠에서 깼습니다.

because I'm always waking up in the night,

왜냐하면 저는 종종 밤에 잠이 깨거든요.

and I went by the computer and I see all these red dots,

그리고 전 컴퓨터를 켰고 페이스북에서

you know, on Facebook, which I've never seen before.

전에 본 적이 없었던 이 빨간 점들을 보게 되었습니다.

(Laughter)

And I was like, "What's going on?"

"어? 무슨 일이지?" 이러면서

So I come to the computer and I start looking on,

컴퓨터를 자세히 보기 시작하였고,

and suddenly I see many people talking to me,

갑자기 많은 사람들이 저한테 말을 거는 겁니다.

most of them I don't know,

대부분 모르는 사람들이었죠.

and a few of them from Iran,

몇몇 사람들은 이란 사람이었는데,

which is -- What?

이건 -- 정말 뭐지?

Because you have to understand,

왜냐하면 여러분이 아셔야 합니다.

in Israel we don't talk with people from Iran.

이스라엘에서는 이란 사람들과 얘기를 하지 않습니다.

We don't know people from Iran.

우리는 이란 사람들을 모릅니다.

It's like, on Facebook, you have friends only from --

아시다시피, 페이스북 친구들은 보통 --

it's like your neighbors are your friends on Facebook.

주로 동네 이웃들이 페이스북에서 친구가 된잖아요.

And now people from Iran are talking to me.

근데 지금은 이란 사람들이 제게 말을 걸고 있는 겁니다.

So I start answering this girl, and she's telling me

그래서 전 어떤 소녀에게 답장하기 시작했는데, 그녀는 제게 말했습니다.

she saw the poster and she asked her family to come,

그녀가 포스터를 보았고 가족들을 불렀는데,

because they don't have a computer, she asked her family

그들은 컴퓨터가 없어서 포스터를 같이 보기 위해

to come to see the poster, and they're all sitting in the living room crying.

가족들을 불렀고, 온 가족이 거실에 앉아 울면서 그 포스터를 봤대요.

So I'm like, whoa.

전 정말, 우와, 이랬죠.

I ask my wife to come, and I tell her, you have to see that.

전 아내를 불러서 이걸 좀 보라고 했죠.

People are crying, and she came, she read the text,

"사람들이 울고 있다", 그래서 그녀가 와서 글을 보더니,

and she started to cry.

그녀도 울기 시작했습니다.

And everybody's crying now. (Laughter)

이제는 모두가 울고 있었어요. (웃음)

So I don't know what to do, so my first reflex,

뭘 해야 할지 모르겠더라고요. 그래서 전 가장 먼저 떠오른게

as a graphic designer, is, you know, to show everybody

그래픽 디자이너로서 모두에게 제가 본 걸

what I'd just seen, and people started to see them

보여줘야겠다고 생각했습니다. 그럼 사람들은 그걸 보고

and to share them, and that's how it started.

공유하겠죠. 그렇게 시작했습니다.

The day after, when really it became a lot of talking,

정말 많은 대화를 하고 난 다음 날에,

I said to myself, and my wife said to me,

전 생각했죠. 그리고 아내가 제게 얘기하길,

I also want a poster,

그녀도 포스터를 찍고 싶다고 하더군요.

so this is her. (Laughter)

이게 바로 제 아내입니다. (웃음)

Because it's working, put me in a poster now.

효과가 있으니까 자기도 이제포스터를 찍겠다구요.

But more seriously, I was like, okay, these ones work,

하지만 더 중요한 문제는, 물론 이것도 효과가 있지만

but it's not just about me, it's about people from Israel

저에게만 국한된 게 아니잖아요.이건 뭔가를 얘기하고 싶은

who want to say something.

이스라엘 사람들에 관한 것이었습니다.

So I'm going to shoot all the people I know, if they want,

그래서 전 제가 아는 모든 사람들을 찍기 시작했죠. 그들이 원하면요.

and I'm going to put them in a poster and I'm going to share them.

그리고 포스터로 만들어서 공유하기로 했습니다.

So I went to my neighbors and friends and students

그래서 전 제 이웃들, 친구들, 그리고 학생들에게 가서

and I just asked them, give me a picture, I will make you a poster.

사진을 주면 포스터로 만들어 주겠다고 했습니다.

And that's how it started. And that's how, really,

그렇게 시작되었습니다. 정말 그렇게

it's unleashed, because suddenly people

반응이 엄청났습니다. 왜냐하면 갑자기 사람들이

from Facebook, friends and others,

페이스북에서 친구들과 다른 분들까지도

just understand that they can be part of it.

그들도 동참할 수 있다는 걸 깨닫게 된 거죠.

It's not just one dude making one poster,

한 사람이 한 포스터를 만드는 게 아니라

it's -- we can be part of it, so they start sending me pictures

우리 모두가 참여할 수 있어서 그들은 제게 사진을 보내고

and ask me, "Make me a poster. Post it.

"절 포스터로 만들어서 올려주세요." 라고 하는 거에요.

Tell the Iranians we from Israel love you too."

"이란 사람들에게 이스라엘 사람들도 당신들을 사랑한다고 해주세요."

It became, you know, at some point it was really, really intense.

정말 어떨 때는 반응이 너무, 너무 뜨거웠습니다.

I mean, so many pictures, so I asked friends

아주 많은 사진들이 왔어요.그래서 친구들에게 부탁해서

to come, graphic designers most of them,

친구들 대부분이 그래픽 디자이너들인데

to make posters with me, because I didn't have the time.

저와 같이 포스터를 만들자고 했습니다. 시간이 없었거든요.

It was a huge amount of pictures.

정말 어마어마한 양의 사진들이었습니다.

So for a few days, that's how my living room was.

며칠동안 저희 집 거실은 이랬습니다.

And we received Israeli posters, Israeli images,

저흰 이스라엘 포스터와 사진들 말고도

but also lots of comments, lots of messages from Iran.

많은 댓글들 그리고 이란에서 온 많은 메세지들을 받았죠.

And we took these messages and we made posters out of it,

그리고 이 메세지를 포스터로 만들었습니다.

because I know people: They don't read, they see images.

왜냐하면 사람들은 글을 읽지 않고 사진을 보잖아요.

If it's an image, they may read it.

사진으로 만든다면 읽을 거라고 생각했어요.

So here are a few of them.

여기 몇 개를 가져왔습니다.

("You are my first Israelian friend. I wish we both get rid of our idiot politicians, anyway nice to see you!")

("당신은 제 첫 이스라엘 친구입니다. 우리 두 나라에 멍청한 정치인들이 없었으면 좋겠어요. 아무튼 만나서 반갑습니다!")

("I love that blue. I love that star. I love that flag.") This one is really moving for me because it's the story

("파란색이 예쁩니다. 별도요. 그 깃발이 너무 좋습니다.")이건 정말 감동적이었습니다. 왜냐하면 이 얘기는

of a girl who has been raised in Iran

이란에서 자란 어떤 소녀가 매일 아침 학교 등교길에

to walk on an Israeli flag to enter her school every morning,

이스라엘 깃발을 밟고학교 정문을 들어가는 이야기거든요.

and now that she sees the posters that we're sending,

이제 그녀는 우리가 보낸 포스터를 보고

she starts -- she said that she changed her mind,

그녀의 마음을 바꾸기로 결정했답니다.

and now she loves that blue, she loves that star,

그리고 이젠 그녀는 이스라엘 국기의 그 파란색과, 별과

and she loves that flag, talking about the Israeli flag,

그리고 그 국기를, 이스라엘의 국기를 사랑한다고 했어요.

and she wished that we'd meet and come to visit one another,

그리고 제가 첫 포스터를 올리고 난 며칠 뒤에

and just a few days after I posted the first poster.

우리가 언젠가 만나기를, 서로를 방문할 수 있기를 기원했습니다.

The day after,

그 다음 날,

Iranians started to respond with their own posters.

이란 사람들이 자기가 만든 포스터로 답을 하기 시작했습니다.

They have graphic designers. What? (Laughter)

이란에도 그래픽 디자이너가 있다고요. 뭐지? (웃음)

Crazy, crazy.

미쳤죠, 미쳤죠.

So you can see they are still shy, they don't want to show their faces,

아직도 그들이 수줍어하는 걸 아시겠죠. 그들은 얼굴을 드러내고 싶어하지 않지만

but they want to spread the message.

메세지를 퍼뜨리고 싶어합니다.

They want to respond. They want to say the same thing.

그들은 답을 해주고 싶었던 거에요.같은 얘기를 하고 싶었던 겁니다.

So. And now it's communication.

그래서. 이게 바로 소통이죠.

It's a two-way story. It's Israelis and Iranians

양방향의 이야기입니다. 이스라엘 사람과 이란 사람들은

sending the same message, one to each other.

서로에게 같은 메세지를 보내고 있습니다.

("My Israeli Friends. I don't hate you. I don't want War.")

("내 이스라엘 친구여. 난 당신을 싫어하지 않습니다. 나는 전쟁을 원하지 않아요.")

This never happened before, and this is two people

이건 전례없는 일입니다.이 두 민족은

supposed to be enemies, we're on the verge of a war,

적이어야 하는데, 우리는 지금 전쟁이 벌어질 상황인데

and suddenly people on Facebook are starting to say,

갑자기 페이스북에서 사람들이 이렇게 말하기 시작한 거죠.

"I like this guy. I love those guys."

"난 이 사람이 좋아. 저 사람들이 좋아."

And it became really big at some point.

그리고 어떤 시점에서 정말 큰 일이 되었습니다.

And then it became news.

그리고 뉴스가 되었죠.

Because when you're seeing the Middle East, you see only the bad news.

왜냐하면 뉴스에서 중동면을 보시면 아시겠지만 늘 나쁜 뉴스만 보시잖아요.

And suddenly, there is something that was happening

하지만 갑자기 좋은 뉴스가 나오기

that was good news. So the guys on the news,

시작한 겁니다. 그래서 뉴스 관계자 사람들은

they say, "Okay, let's talk about this."

"그래, 여기에 대해 말해봐야겠다." 라고 한 거죠.

And they just came, and it was so much,

결국 뉴스 관계자들이 왔고, 일이 많이 커졌어요.

I remember one day, Michal,

어느 날 미할이

she was talking with the journalist, and she was asking him,

기자랑 얘기를 했는데 그녀가 그에게 물었답니다.

"Who's gonna see the show?"And he said, "Everybody."

"누가 이 쇼를 보죠?" 그가 말하길 "모두가요."

So she said, "Everybody in Palestine, in where? Israel?

그래서 그녀는 이렇게 말했죠. "팔레스타인에 있는 사람이요? 어디요, 이스라엘?

Who is everybody?""Everybody."

모두가 누구죠?""모두요."

They said, "Syria?" "Syria."

그들이 말하길, "시리아는요?" "시리아도."

"Lebanon?""Lebanon."

"레바논도?" "레바논도요."

At some point, he just said, "40 million people are going to see you today.

어느 순간 그는 이렇게 얘기했죠. "4천만명이 오늘 당신을 볼 겁니다.

It's everybody." The Chinese.

모두가 말입니다." 중국인이요.

And we were just at the beginning of the story.

우린 아직 이야기의 시작 단계에 있습니다.

Something crazy also happened.

또 엄청난 일이 벌어졌거든요.

Every time a country started talking about it,

각국에서 이 얘기를 하기 시작하더니,

like Germany, America, wherever,

독일, 미국, 여기 저기,

a page on Facebook popped up with the same logo

페이스북에서 같은 로고와 같은 이야기를 담은

with the same stories, so at the beginning

페이지가 뜨는 거에요. 처음에는

we had "Iran-Loves-Israel," which is an Iranian

"이란은 이스라엘을 사랑해"였는데, 테헤란에 있는

sitting in Tehran, saying, "Okay, Israel loves Iran?

이란 사람이 얘기하길"그래, 이스라엘이 이란을 사랑한다고?

I give you Iran-Loves-Israel."

그럼 난 이란은 이스라엘을 사랑해를 주지."

You have Palestine-Loves-Israel.

'팔레스타인은 이스라엘을 사랑해'도 있고요.

You have Lebanon that just -- a few days ago.

얼마 전엔 레바논도 생겼어요.

And this whole list of pages on Facebook

페이스북의 이 모든 페이지들이

dedicated to the same message,

같은 메세지를 보내는 일을 하고 있습니다.

to people sending their love, one to each other.

서로에게 사랑을 보내는 일이죠.

The moment I really understood that something was happening,

뭔가 벌어지고 있구나, 라고 진짜로 제가 느꼈을 때는

a friend of mine told me,

제 친구가 저한테 말했을 때였어요.

"Google the word 'Israel.'"

"구글에서 이스라엘을 찾아봐"

And those were the first images on those days

그리고 저게 그 당시에 처음 뜬 사진들입니다.

that popped up from Google

"이스라엘" 이나 "이란"을 치면

when you were typing, "Israel" or "Iran."

구글에 나오는 사진들이죠.

We really changed how people see the Middle East.

우리가 사람들이 중동을 바라보는 시선을 바꿨습니다.

Because you're not in the Middle East.

왜냐하면 여러분은 중동에 있지 않잖아요.

You're somewhere over there, and then you want to see the Middle East,

여러분은 저기 어딘가에 있으면서, 여기 중동을 보고 싶어합니다.

so you go on Google and you say, "Israel,"

그래서 구글에 가서 "이스라엘을" 검색하게 되고,

and they give you the bad stuff.

거기에서는 나쁜 것들만 잔뜩 나오죠.

And for a few days you got those images.

하지만 여러분은 며칠동안 저 사진들을 봤을겁니다.

Today the Israel-Loves-Iran page

오늘 '이스라엘은 이란을 사랑해' 라는 페이지는

is this number, 80,831, and two million people last week

80,831 조회수를 보였고, 지난 주에는 2백만이

went on the page and shared, liked, I don't know,

그 페이지를 조회하면서 다른 사람들과 사진들을공유하고, '좋아요' 하고,

commented on one of the photos.

사진에 댓글을 달았습니다.

So for five months now, that's what we are doing,

그래서 이제 이 일을 한지 5개월 정도 됐고,

me, Michal, a few of my friends, are just making images.

저, 미할, 그리고 몇몇 친구들은 사진을 만들고 있어요.

We're showing a new reality

우리는 그냥 사진을 만드는 걸로

by just making images

새로운 현실을 보여주고 있습니다.

because that's how the world perceives us.

왜냐하면 세상은 우리를 그렇게 보니까요.

They see images of us, and they see bad images.

사람들은 우리 사진을 보고나쁜 인상을 갖습니다.

So we're working on making good images. End of story.

putting an image of an Israeli soldier on his page.

This is the enemy.

What?

("Our heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their dearests in terror attack in Bulgaria")

And it's going both ways.

It's like, we are showing respect, one to each other.

And you become friends.

And at some point, you become friends on Facebook,

You can go and travel and meet people.

And I was in Munich a few weeks ago.

저는 몇 주 전에 뮌헨에 있었습니다.

I went there to open an exposition about Iran

이란에 관한 전시회를 열려고 갔는데

and I met there with people from the page

페이스북 페이지에서 알게 된 사람을 거기서 만났죠.

that told me, "Okay, you're going to be in Europe,

그 사람들이 저한테 말했어요."좋아요. 당신이 유럽에 간다면

I'm coming. I'm coming from France, from Holland,

나도 갈게요. 나는 프랑스에서, 네덜란드에서,

from Germany," of course, and from Israel people came,

독일에서 갈게요." 물론 이스라엘 사람들도 왔어요.

and we just met there for the first time in real life.

그렇게 우리는 거기서 실제로 처음 만났습니다.

I met with people that are supposed to be my enemies

저는 제 적이 되어야 할 사람들을

for the first time. And we just shake hands,

and have a coffee and a nice discussion,

and we talk about food and basketball.

And that was the end of it.

Remember that image from the beginning?

At some point we met in real life, and we became friends.

And it goes the other way around.

Some girl that we met on Facebook

우리가 페이스북에서 만난 어떤 여자아이는

never been in Israel, born and raised in Iran,

이스라엘에 와본 적없이 이란에서 태어나 자랐고

lives in Germany, afraid of Israelis

독일에 살면서 이스라엘 사람을 무서워했어요.

because of what she knows about us,

왜냐하면 그녀가 우리에 대해 알고 있는 것은 그런 거였으니까요.

decides after a few months of talking on the Internet

인터넷으로 이스라엘 사람들과 몇달 동안 얘기를 나눈 뒤

with some Israelis to come to Israel,

그녀는 이슬라엘에 오기로 마음을 먹었죠.

and she gets on the plane and arrives at Ben Gurion

그녀는 비행기를 타고 벤 구리온에 도착해서

and says, "Okay, not that big a deal."

말했어요. "좋아, 별일 아니잖아."

So a few weeks ago, the stress is getting higher,

그래서 몇 주 전에, 긴장감이 올라감에 따라

so we start this new campaign

called "Not ready to die in your war."

I mean, it's plus/minus the same message,

but we wanted really to add some aggressivity to it.

And again, something amazing happened,

something that we didn't have on the first wave of the campaign.

Now people from Iran, the same ones who were shy

at the first campaign and just sent, you know,

첫 캠페인에서 부끄럼을 타던 사람들이

their foot and half their faces,

now they're sending their faces, and they're saying,

이제 얼굴을 보내면서 말하는 거에요.

"Okay, no problem, we're into it. We are with you."

"좋아요. 문제 없어요.우리도 해요. 여러분과 함께 할게요."

Just read where those guys are from.

그 사람들이 어디서 왔는지 한 번 읽어보세요.

And for every guy from Israel,

이스라엘에서 온 사람들 저마다

you've got someone from Iran.

이란에서 온 누군가가 있습니다.

Just people sending their pictures.

자기 사진을 보내는 사람들이죠.

Crazy, yes?

말도 안 돼죠, 그렇죠?

So --

So you may ask yourself, who is this dude?

My name is Ronny Edry, and I'm 41, I'm an Israeli,

I'm a father of two, I'm a husband,

and I'm a graphic designer. I'm teaching graphic design.

And I'm not that naive, because a lot of the time

I've been asked, many times I've been asked, "Yeah, but,

this is really naive, sending flowers over, I mean — "

I was in the army. I was in the paratroopers for three years,

we're in a democracy. We have the freedom of speech,

and maybe that little thing can change something.
