I'm standing in front of you today

لەبەر دەمتانا وەستاوم ئەمڕۆ

in all humility,

زۆر بە سادەی

wanting to share with you

ئەمەوێت بەشدارتان بکەم لەگە/ل خۆم

my journey of the last six years

گەشتی شەش ساڵی ڕابردوم

in the field of service

لە بواری خزمەت گوزاری

and education.

و پەروەردە

And I'm not a trained academic.

وە من ئەکادمیەکی پسپۆڕم

Neither am I a veteran social worker.

لەگەڵ ئەوەشدا بۆ ماوەیەکی زۆر نیە ئەم کارەدەکەم

I was 26 years in the corporate world,

٢٦ساڵ کارم لە کارگەکان کردووە

trying to make organizations profitable.

لەهەوڵی ئەوەدا بووم لە ئەو کارگانە قازانج بکەن

And then in 2003

وە پاشان لە ساڵی ٢٠٠٣دا

I started Parikrma Humanity Foundation

ڕێک خراو پاریکرمای مرۆیم دامەزراند

from my kitchen table.

لەسەر مێزی نان خواردنەکەم

The first thing that we did was walk through the slums.

یەکەم شت ئەوە بوو کە بە ناو گەڕەکە فەقیرەکاندا گەڕاین

You know, by the way, there are two million people

دەزانن ،دوو ملیۆن خەڵک

in Bangalore, who live in 800 slums.

لە ٨٠٠گەڕەکی فەقیردا دەژین لە بانگلدر

We couldn't go to all the slums,

نەمانتوانی بچین بۆ هەموو گەڕەکەکان

but we tried to cover as much as we could.

بەڵام هەوڵمان دا بەشێکی باشی بەسەر بکەینەوە

We walked through these slums,

بەناو ئەو گەڕەکانەدا ڕۆشتین

identified houses where children would never go to school.

ئەو ماڵانەمان دیاری کرد کە مناڵەکانیان هەرگیز نەچوبون بۆ خوێندنگە

We talked to the parents,

قسەمان لەگەڵ دایک و باوکیان کرد

tried to convince them about sending their children to school.

هەوڵماندا کە ڕازیان بکەین کە منداڵەکانیان بنێرنە خوێندنگە

We played with the children,

یاریمان لەگەڵ منداڵەکان کرد

and came back home really tired,

وە زۆر بە هیلاکی گەڕاینەوە بۆ ماڵەوە

exhausted, but with images

ماندوو بوین بەڵام وێنەمان پێبوو

of bright faces, twinkling eyes,

هی دەم و چاوی پرشنگدار و چاوی گەشاوە

and went to sleep.

وە نووستین

We were all excited to start,

هەموومان پەرۆشی دەست پێ کردن بووین

but the numbers hit us then:

بەڵام ژمارەکان توشی سەر سوڕمانیان کردین

200 million children

٢٠٠ملیۆن منداڵ

between four to 14 that

لە چوارساڵ بۆ ١٤کە

should be going to school, but do not;

دەبوایە بچونایەتە خوێندنگە بەڵام نەچوون

100 million children

١٠٠ملیۆن منداڵ

who go to school but cannot read;

کە چونەتە خوێندنگە بەڵام ناتوانن بخوێننەوە

125 million who cannot do basic maths.

١٢٥ملیۆن کە ناتوانن کردارە ژمێریاریە سادەکان بکەن

We also heard that 250 billion Indian rupees

وە هەروەها ئەوەمان بیست کە ٢٥٠ملیار روپێی هیندی

was dedicated for government schooling.

تەرخان کراوا بۆ خوێندنی بە خۆڕای

Ninety percent of it was spent on teachers' salary

لە سەدا ٩٠بۆ موچەی مامۆستا خەرج کراوە

and administrators' salary.

لەگەڵ موچەی کارگێڕی

And yet, India has nearly

وە هێشتا هیندستان ،بە نزیکەی

the highest teacher absenteeism

بەرزترین ڕێژەی مامۆستا هەیە

in the world,

لە جیهاندا

with one out of four teachers

لە جووار مامۆستا یەکێک

not going to school at all the entire academic year.

بە درێژای ساڵی خوێندن دەوام ناکات

Those numbers were absolutely mind-boggling,

ئەو ژمارانە بەڕاستی جێگەی سەرسوڕمانن

overwhelming, and we were constantly asked,

سەرسامە،وە بە بەردەوامی پرسیارمان لێ دەکرا

"When will you start? How many schools will you start?

کەی دەست پێ دەکەن و چەند خوێندنگە دەکەنەوە؟

How many children will you get?

چەند منداڵ وەردەگرن؟

How are you going to scale?

چۆن دابەشیان دەکەن؟

How are you going to replicate?"

چۆن ئەو بیرۆکەیە دوبارە دەکەنەوە؟

It was very difficult not to get scared, not to get daunted.

ئەمە قورس بوو کە هەست بە ترس نەکەین و لەم بیرۆکەیەدا پاش گەز نەبینەوە

But we dug our heels

بەڵام سور بووین

and said, "We're not in the number game.

وتمان:ئێمە یاری ژمارە ناکەین

We want to take one child at a time

ئەمانەوێت یەک منداڵ وەربگیرین و لە یەک کاتدا

and take the child right through school,

وە منداڵەکە بە هەموو ئاستەکانی خوێندندا بەرین

sent to college,

ببرێتە زانکۆ

and get them prepared for better living,

ئامادەیان بکەین بۆ ژیانێکی باشتر

a high value job."

کارێک لە ئاستێکی بەرزدا

So, we started Parikrma.

بۆیە ئەم ڕێک خراوەمان دامەزراند

The first Parikrma school

یەکەم خوێندنگەی پارکریامان

started in a slum

لە گەڕەکێکی فەقیردا دامەزراند

where there were 70,000 people

کە ٧٠ هەزار خەڵک

living below the poverty line.

لە ژێر هێڵی فەقیری یەوە دەژین

Our first school was

یەکەم خوێندنگەمان

on a rooftop of a building inside the slums,

لەسەر بینایەکی ئەو گەڕەکە فەقیرە بوو

a second story building, the only second story building

بینایەک لە دوو نهۆم پێک هاتبوو ،تەنها بیناکە لە دوو نهۆم پێکهاتبوو

inside the slums.

لەناو گەڕەکە فەقیرەکاندا

And that rooftop did not have

وە ئەو سەربانە هیچ

any ceiling, only half a tin sheet.

سەقفی نەبوو،تەنها نیو پارچە تەنەکە

That was our first school. One hundred sixty-five children.

ئەوە یەکەمین خوێندنگەمان بوو ١٦٥٠ منداڵ

Indian academic year begins in June.

ساڵی خوێندنی هیندستان لە مانگی شەش دەست پێ دەکات

So, June it rains, so many a times

وە لە مانگی شەش دا ،وەرزی باران بارین دەست پێ دەکات

all of us would be huddled under the tin roof,

هەموومان لە ژێر ئەو سەقفە بچوکەدا بووین

waiting for the rain to stop.

چاوەڕوانمان دەکرد بارانەکە بواستێتەوە

My God! What a bonding exercise that was.

خوای گیان!چەند مەشقێکی بە کۆماڵ بوو

And all of us

وە هەموومان

that were under that roof are still here together today.

کە لە ژێر ئەو سەقفەدا بووین تا ئەمڕۆش پێکەوەین لێرە

Then came the second school,

پاشان دووەم خوێندنگەمان دامەزراند

the third school, the fourth school

سێیەم خوێندنگە و چوارەم خوێندنگە

and a junior college.

وە خوێندنگەی ئامادەی

In six years now,

لەماوەی شەش ساڵدا ئێستا

we have four schools, one junior college,

چوار خوێندنگە و خوێندنگەیەکی ئامادەیمان هەیە

1,100 children

١١٠٠منداڵ

coming from 28 slums

کەلە گەڕەکی فەقیرەوە دێن

and four orphanages.

وە چوار هەتیو خانە

(Applause)

چەپڵە لێدان

Our dream is very simple:

خەونەکەمان زۆر سادەیە

to send each of these kids, get them prepared

کە ئەم منداڵانە بنێرینە خوێندنگە،ئامادەیان بکەین

to be educated

کە بژین و فێربن

but also to live peacefully,

بەڵام بە ئاشتیش بژین

contented in this conflict-ridden

ڕازی بن لەم ململانێیەدا

chaotic globalized world.

کە تێیدا دەژین لەم جیهانە ی کە هەمووی (فوسنی)یە

Now, when you talk global

ئێستا کاتێک باسی جیهان گیری دەکەین

you have to talk English.

ئەبێ بە ئینگلیزی قسە بکەین

And so all our schools

وە بۆ هەموو خوێندنگەکەمان

are English medium schools.

خوێندنگەیەکن کە پڕۆگرامی خوێندنیان ەینگلیزیە

But they know there is this myth

بەڵام ئەوان دەزانن کە ئەم ئەفسانەیە هەیە

that children from the slums

کە منداڵانی گەڕەکە فەقیرەکان

cannot speak English well.

ناتوانن بە باشی بە ئینگلیزی قسە بکەن

No one in their family has spoken English.

هیچ کەسێ لە خێزانەکەیاندا بە ئینگلیزی قسەی نەکردووە

No one in their generation has spoken English.

وە هیچ کەسێ لە جیلەکەیان بە ئینگلیزی قسەی نەکردووە

But how wrong it is.

بەڵام ئەمە چەند هەڵەیە

Girl: I like adventurous books, and some of my favorites

کچ:من حەزم لە کتێبە سەر کێشی یەکانە، وە هەندێ لەو کتێبانەی حەزم لێیەتی

are Alfred Hitchcock and [unclear]

ئاڵفری هیچۆک و [.........]؟؟

and Hardy Boys.

وە هاردی بۆیز

Although they are like

هەرچەندە زۆر لەیەک دەچن

in different contexts,

لە شێوازدا جیاوازن

one is magical, the other two are like investigation,

یەکێکیان خەیاڵیە.دوانەکەی تریان دەربارەی لێکۆڵینەوەی تاوانەکان

I like those books because

من حەزم لەم کتێبانەیە ،لەبەر ئەوەی

they have something special in them.

شتێکی زۆر تایبەتی تیادا بەدی دەکەم

The vocabulary used in those books

ئەو وشانەی کە لەم کتێبانەدا بەکار هاتوون

and the style of writing.

وە شێوازی نووسینی

I mean like once I pick up one book

مەبەستم ئەوەیە کاتێک دەست دەدەمە یەکێک لەم کتێبانە

I cannot put it down until I finish the whole book.

ناتوانم دایبنێم هەتاوەک و هەموو کتێبەکە بە تەواوی نەخوێنینەوە

Even if it takes me four and a half hours,

تەنانەت ئەگەر هاتوو چوار کاتژمێر و نیو

or three and half hours to finish my book, I do it.

یاخود سێ کاتژمێر و نیویش بخایەنێت تا لە خوێندنەوەی ئەبمەوە

Boy: I did good research and I got the information

کوڕ:من توێژینەوەیەکی باشم کردووە وە زانیاریم دەست کەوتووە

[on the] world's fastest cars.

دەربارەی خێراترین ئەتۆمۆبێل لە جیهاندا

I like Ducati ZZ143,

حەزم لە داکاتی یە

because it is the fastest,

لەبەر ئەوەی خێراترین

the world's fastest bike,

پاسکیلە لە جیهاندا

and I like Pulsar 220 DTSI

وە حەزم لە بلسار٢٢٠دە تی ئێس ئایە

because it is India's fastest bike. (Laughter)

لەبەر ئەوەی خێراترین پاسکیلە لە هند،،،،هاهاهاها

Shukla Bose: Well, that girl that you saw,

ئا،ئەو کچەی کە ئێوە بینیتان

her father sells flowers on the roadside.

باوکی گوڵ دەفرۆشێت سەر شۆستەی شەقامەکە

And this little boy has been coming to school for five years.

وە کوڕە بچوکەکەی ماوەی پێنج ساڵە دێت بۆ خوێندنگە

But isn't it strange that little boys all over the world

بەڵام ئایا شتێکی نامۆ نیە کە منداڵ لە سەرتا سەری جیهاندا

love fast bikes? (Laughter)

حەزیان لە پاسکیلی خێرایە؟!،،،هاهاهاها

He hasn't seen one, he hasn't ridden one, of course,

وە تا ئێستا نە پاسکیلێکی لێخوڕیوە و نە بینیویەتی

but he has done a lot of research through Google search.

بەڵام لە گوگوڵ گەڕانی بۆ کردووە

You know, when we started with our English medium schools

ئەزانین کاتێک دەستمان کرد بە پڕۆگرامی ئینگلیزی لە خوێندنگەکەمانا

we also decided to adopt

بڕیارمان دا کە دابینی

the best curriculum possible,

باشترین پڕۆگرام بکەین کە بەردەست بێت

the ICSE curriculum.

وەک پڕۆگرامی ئای سی ئێس ئی

And again, there were people who laughed at me

ئینجا دووبارە هەر خەڵکانێک هەبوون کە پێم پێبکەنن و

and said, "Don't be crazy

پێم بڵێن ئەوەندە شێت مەبە!!

choosing such a tough curriculum for these students.

هەڵبژاردنی پڕۆگرامێکی ئەوا قورس بۆ ئەم خوێندکارانە؟!

They'll never be able to cope."

هەرگیز ناتوانن لەگەڵی دا بگونجێن

Not only do our children cope very well,

بەڵام نەک تەنها خوێند کارەکانمان زۆر بە ئاستێکی باش خۆیان گونجاند

but they excel in it.

بەڵکو ئاستێکی زۆر بەرزیان بە دەست هێنا

You should just come across to see

پێویستە خۆتان بێن بە چاوی خۆتان بیبینن

how well our children do.

کە خوێند کارەکانمان چەندە کامەرانن

There is also this myth that

ئەفسانەیەکی تریش هەیە،ئەویش ئەوەیە

parents from the slums

دایک و باوکەکان لەوگەڕەکە فەقیرانە

are not interested in their children going to school;

گرنگی بەوە نادەن منداڵەکانیان بچن بۆ خوێندنگە

they'd much rather put them to work.

بەڵک و حەز دەکەن منداڵەکانیان بچن کار بکەن

That's absolute hogwash.

ئەوە بەڕاستی شتێکی ناخۆشە

All parents all over the world

هەموو کەس و کارەکان لە سەرانسەری جیهاندا

want their children to lead a better life than themselves,

ژیانە باشتریان دەوێت بۆ منداڵيکانیان،کەلە ژیانی خۆیان باشتر بێت

but they need to believe that change is possible.

بەڵام پێویستیان بەوە هەیە کە باوەڕیان بەوە هەبێت کە گۆڕان شتێکی مومکینە

SB: We have 80 percent attendance

ڕێژەی ئامادە بوون لەلای ئێمە لە سەدا ٨٠ دەبینێت

for all our parents-teachers meeting.

بۆ ئەو کۆبونەوانەی لە نێوان مامۆستایان و دایک و باوکی خوێند کاراندا دەکرێت

Sometimes it's even 100 percent,

هەندێ جار دەگاتە لە سەدا سەد

much more than many privileged schools.

زۆر زیاترە لە هی خوێندنگە نموونەییەکان

Fathers have started to attend.

باوکەکان دەستیان کرد بە ئامادە بوون

It's very interesting. When we started our school

زۆر شتێکی مەزن بوو کاتێک کە خوێندنگەکەمان کردەوە

the parents would give thumbprints in the attendance register.

چۆن باوانی خوێند کارەکان دەستیان بە پانجە مۆری ئامادە بوون کرد

Now they have started writing their signature.

ع=ئێستا دەستیان بە ئیمزی ناوەکانیان کرد

The children have taught them.

منداڵەکانیان فێریان کردوون

It's amazing how much children can teach.

زۆر جێگەی سەر سوڕمانە کە زۆر لە خوێندکارەکان دەتوان کەس و کاریان فێر بکەن

We have, a few months ago,

پێش جەند مانگێک لەمەو بەر

actually late last year,

ئەوەی ڕاستی بێت لە کۆتای ساڵی پێش و

we had a few mothers who came to us and said,

چەند دایکێک هەبوون کە هاتن پێیان وتین

"You know, we want to learn how to read and write.

ئەزانیت ئێمە هاتووین فێری خوێندنەوە و نووسین ببین؟

Can you teach us?" So, we started an afterschool

ئەتوانن فێرمان بکەن؟،،،،،،بۆیە دەستمان کرد بە کردنەوەی خوێندنگەی ئێواران

for our parents, for our mothers.

بۆ باوانمان ،بۆ دایکەکانمان

We had 25 mothers who came regularly

٢٥ دەیک هەبوون ەکە بەردەوام دەهاتن

after school to study.

پاش نیوەڕوان ،بۆ ئەوەی فێر ببن

We want to continue with this program

ئێمە ئەمانەوێت بەردەوام بین لەم بەرنامەیە

and extend it to all our other schools.

وە بیگشتێنین بەسەر هەموو خوێندنگەکانی ترمان

Ninety-eight percent of our fathers are alcoholics.

لە سەدا ٩٨ باوکەکان ئەلکهولن

So, you can imagine how traumatized

لەبەر ئەوە ئەتوانن بیهێننە بەر چاوی خۆتان کە چەند پەشۆکاون و

and how dysfunctional the houses are where our children come from.

چەند لە ماڵێکی شیرازە پچڕاوەوە هاتوون ئەو مناڵانە

We have to send the fathers to de-addiction labs

ئێمە ئەبێت باوکەکان بنێرین بۆ سەنتەری چارەسەر کردنی ئاڵودەی مەی خوارندوە

and when they come back,

وە کاتێک دەگەڕێنەوە

most times sober, we have to find a job for them

زۆربەی جارەکان کارەکە سەرکەوت و ئەبێت،ئینجا ئەبێت کاریان بۆ بدۆزینەوە

so that they don't regress.

بۆ ئەوەی جاێکی تر تووشی لانە وازی نەبنەوە

We have about three fathers who have been trained to cook.

سێ باوکمان هەیە کە مەشقیان پێ کردون و فێری چێشت لێنان کردوون

We have taught them nutrition, hygiene.

فێری خواردن و پاک و خاوێنیان کردوون

We have helped them set up the kitchen

یارماتیان داون کە چێشت خانەیەکی تایبەت بە خۆیان دابمەزرێنن

and now they are supplying food to all our children.

ئێستا خواردنی هەموو منداڵی ناو خوێندنگەکە دابین دەکەن

They do a very good job because

ئەوان کارێکی زۆر باش دەکەن لەبەر ئەوەی

their children are eating their food,

منداڵەکان خواردنەکەیان دەخۆن

but most importantly this is the first time

بەڵام لەهەمووی گرینگ تر ئەوەیە ،،کە ئەمان یەکەم جار

they have got respect,

ڕێزیان لێ بگرێت

and they feel that they are doing something worthwhile.

وە هەست دەکەن کە ئەوان کارێک دەکەن کە جێگەی سەرنجە

More than 90 percent of our non-teaching staff

لە سەدا ٩٥ستافەکان کای فێرکردن ناکەن

are all parents and extended families.

هەموو دایک و باوک یان کەس و کاری خێزانەکانیان

We've started many programs

ئێمە زۆر پڕۆگراممان دەست پێکرد

just to make sure that the child comes to school.

تەنها بۆ ئەوەی دڵنیا بین کە منداڵ دێن بۆ خوێندنگە

Vocational skill program for the older siblings

دەستمان کرد بە کردنەوەی خولی لێهاتووی پیشەی بۆ ئەو منداڵانەی کە تەمەنیان گەورە ترە

so the younger ones are not stopped from coming to school.

بۆ ئەوەی ڕێگە لە منداڵە بچوکەکان نەگرن بێن بۆ خوێندنگە

There is also this myth that children from the slums

ئەفسانەیەکی تریش هەیە ئەوەیە کە ئەو منداڵانەی لە گەڕەکی هەژار دێن

cannot integrate with mainstream.

ناتوانن لەگەڵ کاروانەکەدا بڕۆن

Take a look at this little girl

ئەم کچە ببینن

who was one of the 28 children

کە یەکێکە لەو ٢٨ منداڵەی

from all privileged schools,

کەلە باشترین خوێندنگەکانن

best schools in the country

لە باشترین خوێندنگەکانی وڵات

that was selected for the Duke University

کە هەڵبژێردرا بۆ پڕۆگرامی زانکۆی

talent identification program

کە پڕۆگرامێکە بەهرە مەنداکان دیارە دەکات

and was sent to IIM Ahmedabad.

وە نێردراوە بۆ ئای ئای ئێم ئەحمەد ئاباد

کەمپی(دیوک ئای ئای ئێم ئەی) هەر کاتێک ئەوە دەبینین

it was such a pride for us to go to that camp.

شانازی دەکەین بەوە کە ئێمە چووین بۆ ئەو کامپە

Everybody was very friendly,

هەموو خەڵکانی زۆر ڕوخۆش بوون

especially I got a lot of friends.

بەتایبەت،ئەوەی کە زۆر هاوڕێیرتیم دروست کرد

And I felt that my English has improved a lot

وە هەستم کرد زمانی ئینگلیزیم زۆر باش بووە

going there and chatting with friends.

ڕۆشتم بۆ ئەوێ و سە کردنم لەگەڵ هاوڕێکانمدا

There they met children who are

لەوێ زۆر مندڵم بینی

with a different standard and

چینی جیاوازەوە هاتبوون

a different mindset, a totally different society.

بیر و بۆچونی جیاواز و چینی کۆمەڵایەتی جیاواز

I mingled with almost everyone.

تا ڕادەیەک لەگەڵ هەموویاندا تێکەڵاویم پەیدا کرد

They were very friendly.

ئەوان هەموو زۆر ڕووخۆش بوون

I had very good friends there,

زۆر هاوڕێیەتیم دروست کرد لەوێ

who are from Delhi, who are from Mumbai.

کەخەڵکی دلهی و مۆمبای بوون

Even now we are in touch through Facebook.

وە ئێستا لە ڕێگەی فەیس بووکەوە پەیوەندیمان ماوە

After this Ahmedabad trip

دوای ئەو گەشتەی ئەهمەد ئاباد

I've been like a totally different

بووم بە کەسێکی جیاواز

mingling with people and all of those.

ئەتوانم بە ئاسانی لەگەڵ هەموو کەس خۆم بگونجێنم

Before that I feel like I wasn't like this.

پێشتر حەستم دەکرد کە حەزم لێ نیە

I don't even mingle, or start speaking with someone so quickly.

وە نامەوێت تێکەڵاوی کەس ببم،یاخود دەست با گفتو گۆ بکەم خێرا لەگەڵ یەکێکدا

My accent with English improved a lot.

لەهجەی ئینگلیزیم زۆر باش بوو

And I learned football, volleyball,

وە فێری یاری تۆپی پێو باڵە بووم

Frisbee, lots of games.

دەفری فڕیوو وە زۆر یاری تر بووم

And I wouldn't want to go to Bangalore. Let me stay here.

نامەوێت بچم بۆ بانجلۆر،لم گەڕێن با هەر ؛لێرەبم

Such beautiful food,

ئەو خواردنە خۆشە

I enjoyed it. It was so beautiful.

زۆر تامم لێ بینی،بەڕاستی زۆر خۆش بوو

I enjoyed eating food like

زۆر لەزەتم لە خواردن بینی

[unclear] would come and ask me,

کاتێک کە ئەهاتن و پێیان ئەوتم:

"Yes ma'am, what you want?" It was so good to hear!

فەرموو خاتوون چیت دەوێت؟زۆر خۆش بوو کە ئەوەم لێ دەبیوستن

(Laughter)

هاهاهاها

چەپڵە.....

SB: This girl was working as a maid

ئەم کچە وەک کارەکەر کاری دەکرد

before she came to school.

پێش ئەوەی بێت بۆ خوێندنگە

And today she wants to be a neurologist.

باڵام ئەمڕۆ دەیەوێت ببێت بە پزیشکی دەمار

Our children are doing brilliantly in sports.

منداڵەکانمان زۆر بەهرەدارن لە بواری وەرزش دا

They are really excelling.

بەڕاستی زۆر کارامەن

There is an inter-school athletic competition

پێشبڕکێیەکی وەرزشی هەیە ،لەسەر ئاستی خوێندنگە ناوەکیەکان

that is held every year

کە هەموو ساڵێک ئەنجام دەدرێت

in Bangalore, where 5,000 children participate

لە بانجڵۆر،کە ٥٠٠٠منداڵ بەشداری تیا دەکەن

from 140 best schools in the city.

لە باشترین ١٤٠ خوێندنگەی شارەکەدا

We've got the best school award for three years successively.

خەڵاتی باشترین خوێندنگەمان پێبەخشرا سێ ساڵ لەسەر یەک

And our children are coming back home

وە خوێندکارەکانمان دەگەڕێنەوە بۆ ماڵەوە

with bags full of medals, with lots of admirers and friends.

بە هەگبەی پڕ لە مەدالیاو ژمارەیەکی زۆر لە هەواداران و هاوڕێیان

Last year there were a couple of kids

ساڵی پێشو چەند منداڵێک هەبوو

from elite schools that came

کە لە خوێندنگەی زۆر نموونەیەوە هاتبوون

to ask for admissions in our school.

بۆ ئەوەی ناوی خۆیان لە خوێندنگەکەی ئێمە تۆمار بکەن

We also have our very own dream team.

هەروەها ئیێمە تیمەکەمان خاوەنی خۆی هەیە

Why is this happening? Why this confidence?

بۆ ئەمە ڕو دەدات؟بۆ ئەم متمانەیە بۆ؟

Is it the exposure? We have professors

ئائەمەیە؟ئێمە پڕۆفیسۆرمان هەیە

from MIT, Berkeley, Stanford,

لە ئێم ئای تی ، بێرکلی،ستانفۆرد

Indian Institute of Science

پایمانگای هیندی بۆ زانست

who come and teach our children lots of scientific formulas,

کە دێن منداڵەکانمان فێری هاوکێشەی زانستی دەکەن

experiments, much beyond the classroom.

تاقی کردنەوەیان پێ دەکەن،زۆر زیاتر لەوەی کە لە وەرزەکانی خوێندن دەکرێت

Art, music are considered

کە هونەر و میوزیک یش لە خۆ دەگرێت

therapy and mediums of expression.

چارەسەر کردن وە ئامڕازەکانی دەربڕین

We also believe that

هەروەها ئێمە باوەڕمان بەوە هەیە

it's the content that is more important.

کە ناوەڕۆک زیاتر گرینگە

It is not the infrastructure,

نەک ژێر خان

not the toilets, not the libraries,

وە نە سەرئاو کتێبخانەکان

but it is what actually happens in this school

بەڵام ئەوەی کە بە ڕاستی ڕودەدات لەم خوێندنگەیەدا

that is more important.

ئائەوە گرینگە

Creating an environment of learning,

کە ژینگەی وا بڕەخسێنین بۆ فێرکردن

of inquiry, of exploration

بۆ لێکۆڵینەوە و بە دوادا چون

is what is true education.

ئێمە ئەمە بە خوێندنین ڕاستە قینەئامار دەکەین

When we started Parikrma

کاتێک کە دەستمان بە (بارکما)کرد

we had no idea which direction we were taking.

هیچ بیرۆکەیەکمان نەبوو سەبارەت بەوەی کە چ ڕێچکەیەکمان گرتۆتە بەر

We didn't hire McKinsey to do a business plan.

ئێمە ماکنسیمان بە کرێ نەگرتبوو تاپلانێکمان بۆ دا بڕێژن

But we know for sure that

بەڵام دڵنیا بووین لەوەی

what we want to do today is

کە ئەوەی ئەمڕۆ ئێمە دەیکەین

take one child at a time,

کە ئێمە یەک منداڵ وەر بگرین بە جیا

not get bogged with numbers,

وە گرنگی بە ژمارە نەدەین

and actually see the child complete

وە لێگەڕێین ئەو منداڵە

the circle of life,

سوڕی ژیانی تەواو بکات

and unleash his total potential.

وە تواناکانی بتەقێنەوە

We do not believe in scale

ئێمە گوێ بە هەندێ نادەین

because we believe in quality,

لەبەر ئەوەی بڕوامان بە یاکسانی هەیە

and scale and numbers will automatically happen.

هەند لەگەڵ ژمارە ئۆتۆماتیکی دەست پێ دەکات

We have corporates that have stood behind us,

ئێمە چەند کۆمپانیامان هەیە کە پشتگیریمان دەکەن

and we are able to, now, open more schools.

وە ئێستا لە تواناماندا هەیە خوێندنگەی زیاتر بکەینەوە

But we began with the idea

کە پێشتر تەنها بە بیرۆکەیەک دەستمان پێ کرد

of one child at a time.

یەک منداڵ لەیەک کاتدا

This is five-year-old Parusharam.

ئەمە باروشارفی تەمەن پێنج ساڵانە

He was begging

ئەو سواڵی ئەکرد

by a bus stop a few years ago,

لەشوێنی وەستانی پاسەکاندا پێنج ساڵ لەمەو بەر

got picked up and is now in an orphanage,

دەرکرا ئێستا لە خانەی لانەوازان دەژی

has been coming to school for the last four and a half months.

دەستی کرد بە هاتنی بۆ خوێندنگە نزیکەی چوار مانگ و نیو دەبێت

He's in kindergarten.

ئێستا ئەو لە باخچەی ساوایانە

He has learned how to speak English.

فێربووە کە چۆن بە ئینگلیزی گفتوو گۆ بکات

We have a model by which kids can speak English

ئێمە سیستمێکمان هەیە کە منداڵ فێر دەکەین کە بە ئینگلیزی گفتو گۆ بکات

and understand English

وە لە ئینگلیزی تێبگات

in three month's time.

لە ماوەی سێ مانگدا

He can tell you stories in English

ئەتوانێت بە ئینگلیزی چیروک بگێڕێتەوە

of the thirsty crow, of the crocodile

دەربارەی (مانگا تینووەکە) ،(تیمساح)

and of the giraffe.

هەرووەها دەربارەی زەڕافە

And if you ask him what he likes to do

هەروەها ئەگەر لێیان پرسی حەز دەکەیت چی بکەیت

he will say, "I like sleeping.

ئەو ئەڵێت حەزم لە خەوە

I like eating. I like playing."

حەزم لە خواردنە،حەزم لە یاری کردنە

And if you ask him what he wants to do,

وە ئەگەر لێیان پرسی ئەتەوێت چی بکەیت

he will say, "I want to horsing."

ئەمەوێت ئەسپ سواری بکەم

Now, "horsing" is going for a horse ride.

(هۆرسین)بەمانای کە سواری ئەسپ ببێت

So, Parusharam comes to my office every day.

لەبەر ئەوە(باروشام)هەموو ڕۆژێک دێت بۆ نووسینگەکەم

He comes for a tummy rub,

تەنها بۆ ئەوەی دەست بهێنێت بە سکیدا

because he believes that will give me luck. (Laughter)

لەبەر ئەوە ی ئەڵێت ئەم کارەی من بەخت ئەبەخشێت بە تۆ.هاهاهاها

When I started Parikrma

کاتێک کە (باریکرما)م دامەزراند

I began with a great deal of arrogance

لەگەڵ بڕێکی زۆر گوشار دەستم کرد

of transforming the world.

بە گۆڕینی جیهان

But today I have been transformed.

بەڵام ئەمڕۆ ئەبینم خۆم گۆڕانم بەسەردا هات

I have been changed with my children.

من گۆڕانکاریم بەسەردا هات لەلایەن منداڵەکانمەوە

I've learned so much from them:

بەڕاستی منداڵيکانم زۆر شتیان فێر کردم

love, compassion, imagination

خۆشەویستی ،هەست،سۆز،خەیاڵ

and such creativity.

وە ئەم داهێنانە

Parusharam is Parikrma

(باروشارم)وەک (باریکرما)وایە

with a simple beginning but a long way to go.

سەرەتاکە ئاسانە بەڵام ڕێگایەکی دور و درێژ لەبەردەمە

I promise you, Parusharam

بەڵێنیان پێ دەدەم (باروشارم)

will speak in the TED conference a few years from now.
