And on my seventeenth birthday,

my parents, knowing how much I loved speed,

gave me one driving lesson

for my seventeenth birthday.

운전연습을 시켜 주셨죠

Not that we could have afforded I drive,

저까지 운전할 수 있는 경제적 여유는

but to give me the dream of driving.

없었지만 제게 운전의 꿈을 키워주고 싶어 하셨어요

And on my seventeenth birthday,

마침내 제 열일곱번째 생일날

I accompanied my little sister

전 시각장애가 있는 제 여동생과 함께

in complete innocence,

정말 천진난만한 기분으로,

as I always had all my life --

제 인생을 살아온 그 느낌대로-

my visually impaired sister --

제 동생을

to go to see an eye specialist.

데리고 안과에 갔어요.

Because big sisters

언니들은 언제나

are always supposed to support their little sisters.

여동생들을 잘 데리고 있어야 하니까요.

And my little sister wanted to be a pilot --

제 동생은 비행기 조종사가 되고 싶어 했어요.

God help her.

가엾게도 말이죠....

So I used to get my eyes tested

그래서 전 동생대신 그냥 재미로

just for fun.

검사하기로 합니다.

And on my seventeenth birthday,

그리고 제 열일곱번째 생일날,

after my fake eye exam,

가짜 시력 검사를 본 바로 후에

the eye specialist just noticed it happened to be my birthday.

안과 의사는 우연히 제 생일인 것을 알게 되었습니다.

And he said, "So what are you going to do to celebrate?"

And I took that driving lesson,

I learned the truth at 17.

Well, if anybody says country music isn't powerful,

let me tell you this:

I got there

저는 시각 장애인이라는 사실을

because my father's passion for Johnny Cash

자니 캐쉬에 대한 아버지의 열정과

and a song, "A Boy Named Sue."

"수라는 이름의 소년"이란 노래 덕으로 모르고 자랐어요

I'm the eldest of three. I was born in 1971.

저는 세 남매 중 장녀입니다. 1971년에 태어났고요.

And very shortly after my birth,

제가 태어나고서 얼마되지 않아서

my parents found out I had a condition called ocular albinism.

제 부모님들은 제가 안성 백색증이라는 질환을 안고 있는 걸 알게 되었어요

And what the hell does that mean to you?

So let me just tell you, the great part of all of this?

이 질환이 제게 미치는 가장 큰 어려움을 먼저 말씀드리지요.

I can't see this clock and I can't see the timing,

But more importantly, let me tell you --

The really strange part is

that, at three and a half, just before I was going to school,

my parents made a bizarre, unusual

저희 부모님들은 특이하고 평범하지 않으면서

and incredibly brave decision.

정말 용기있는 결정을 내렸어요.

No special needs schools.

"시각장애인을 위한 학교는 보내지 않는다."

No labels.

"우리 아이의 장애에 대한 꼬리표도 없다."

No limitations.

"우리 아이는 아무 제한없이 키운다."

My ability and my potential.

제 능력과 잠재력대로 키운다.

And they decided to tell me

그리고 제 부모님들은 제 시각에

that I could see.

아무런 문제가 없다고 말해주셨습니다.

So just like Johnny Cash's Sue,

자니 캐쉬 노래의 여자이름을 가지고 자란

a boy given a girl's name,

소년, Sue처럼

I would grow up and learn from experience

전 부모님이 저를 지켜주지 못할 때

how to be tough and how to survive,

혹은 모든 조건들이 사라졌을 때

when they were no longer there to protect me,

어떻게 강해지고 살아남아야 하는지

or just take it all away.

저는 경험을 통해서 배우고 자라나게 되었죠.

But more significantly,

하지만 더 중요한 것은,

they gave me the ability

부모님들은 제게 아무런

to believe,

제약없이 살 수 있다는 믿음을

totally, to believe that I could.

제게 주셨습니다.

And so when I heard that eye specialist

제가 그 안과 의사의 말을 들었을 때, 여러분들은

tell me all the things, a big fat "no,"

제 모든 꿈들에 대해 "안돼" 란 말을 듣는 순간

everybody imagines I was devastated.

전 망연자실했을 거라 상상하시겠죠

And don't get me wrong, because when I first heard it --

aside from the fact that I thought he was insane --

그 의사가 정신이 나갔다고 생각 말고도

I got that thump in my chest,

가슴이 철렁해서

just that "huh?"

그저 "뭐?" 라고 밖에 할 수 없었거든요.

But very quickly I recovered. It was like that.

하지만 전 아주 빨리 정신을 차렸어요.

The first thing I thought about was my mom,

제일 처음 생각 난 사람은 제 옆에서

who was crying over beside me.

울고 계시던 엄마였어요.

And I swear to God, I walked out of his office,

전 그 사무실에서 나오면서

"I will drive. I will drive.

"제가 운전할께요. 운전할 수 있어요.

You're mad. I'll drive. I know I can drive."

의사 선생님니 돌았어요. 운전할 수 있어요. 할 수 있는 걸 알아요."

And with the same dogged determination

그리고 전 제 아버지가 제가 어렸을 때부터 길러준

that my father had bred into me since I was such a child --

그런 강인한 결단력을 가지고 있었기에-

he taught me how to sail,

아버지가 제게 항해법을 가르쳐 주실 때,

knowing I could never see where I was going, I could never see the shore,

제가 어디로 가는지, 해안이 보이지 않는 것과

and I couldn't see the sails, and I couldn't see the destination.

돛이나 목적지가 보이지 않는 걸 아시면서도 제게 가르치셨어요.

But he told me to believe

하지만 아버지는 제게 믿으라고 하셨고

and feel the wind in my face.

얼굴에 부는 바람을 믿고 나아가라고 하셨습니다.

And that wind in my face made me believe

그 바람을 느끼면서 전 의사가 이상한 것이라고

that he was mad and I would drive.

확신을 했고 계속 앞으로 나아갔습니다.

And for the next 11 years,

I swore nobody would ever find out that I couldn't see,

because I didn't want to be a failure,

And I believed I could do it.

So I rammed through life as only a Casey can do.

And I was an archeologist, and then I broke things.

And then I managed a restaurant, and then I slipped on things.

And then I was a masseuse. And then I was a landscape gardener.

And then I went to business school.

And you know, disabled people are hugely educated.

And then I went in and I got a global consulting job with Accenture.

거기 입학을 하고 나서 엑센츄어에서 컨설턴트로 일했어요.

And they didn't even know.

물론 그들도 몰랐었죠.

And it's extraordinary

믿음이 당신을 얼마나 멀리 데리고 갈 수 있는가는

how far belief can take you.

상상을 초월해요

In 1999,

1999 년

two and a half years into that job,

제가 2년 반 정도 일했을 때

something happened.

제 눈을 의심할 정도로

Wonderfully, my eyes decided, enough.

정말 멋진 일이 생겼어요

And temporarily,

눈 깜짝할 사이에,

very unexpectedly,

they dropped.

And I'm in one of the most competitive environments in the world,

where you work hard, play hard, you gotta be the best, you gotta be the best.

And two years in,

I really could see very little.

And I found myself in front of an HR manager

saying something I never imagined that I would say.

I was 28 years old.

I had built a persona all around what I could and couldn't do.

And I simply said,

"I'm sorry.

"미안해요.

I can't see, and I need help."

앞을 못봐서 그러는데 도와줄래요?"라고 말했어요

Asking for help can be incredibly difficult.

도움을 요청하는 것이 무척 힘들 수도 있어요

And you all know what it is. You don't need to have a disability to know that.

그리고 우린 그게 무엇을 의미하는지 알고있죠; 굳이 장애를 가지고 있지 않아도 다 아니까요.

We all know how hard it is

우린 약점과 실패를 인정하는 것이

to admit weakness and failure.

얼마나 힘든지 다 알고 있어요

And it's frightening, isn't it?

그리고 무서운 일인 것도요, 그렇지 않나요?

But all that belief had fueled me so long.

하지만 그 믿음이 오랫동안 제 원동력이 되었어요

And can I tell you, operating in the sighted world when you can't see,

그리고 앞이 안보일 때 시각적인 세상에서 살아간다는 것은

it's kind of difficult -- it really is.

좀 어렵다고 할 수 있겠죠? 실제로 어렵기도 하고요

Can I tell you, airports are a disaster.

공항은 거의 재앙에 가깝지 않을까요?

Oh, for the love of God.

오, 맙소사!

And please, any designers out there?

그리고 이곳에 계신 모든 디자이너 분들

OK, designers, please put up your hands, even though I can't even see you.

제가 볼 수 없긴 하지만 손좀 들어주시겠어요?

I always end up in the gents' toilets.

전 항상 남자화장실로 가게되더라고요

And there's nothing wrong with my sense of smell.

제 후각에 문제가 있는건 아니에요

But can I just tell you,

그런데 남자화장실과

the little sign for a gents' toilet or a ladies' toilet

여자화장실이 표지판에 있는 작은 삼각형(치마)에 의해

is determined by a triangle.

결정된다는거 아세요?

Have you ever tried to see that

살면서 눈 앞에 바셀린을 놓고

if you have Vaseline in front of your eyes?

앞을 보신적이 있으신가요?

It's such a small thing, right?

정말 사소한 거죠, 그렇죠?

And you know how exhausting it can be

완벽하지 않는데도 완벽한 척을 하는 것,

to try to be perfect when you're not,

아니면 본인이 아닌 다른 사람인척 하는게

or to be somebody that you aren't?

얼마나 힘든지 아시죠?

And so after admitting I couldn't see to HR,

그래서 인사담당자에게 제가 앞을 보지 못한다는 사실을 말하고 나니

they sent me off to an eye specialist.

절 안과에 가보라고 했어요.

And I had no idea that this man was going to change my life.

이 의사가 제 삶을 바꿔놓으리라곤 꿈에도 생각 못했어요

But before I got to him, I was so lost.

그를 만나기 전에 저는 갈피를 못 잡고 있었어요.

I had no idea who I was anymore.

전 제가 누구인지조차 모르고 있었어요

And that eye specialist, he didn't bother testing my eyes.

그 의사는 제 눈을 검사한다는 이유로 절 귀찮게 하지도 않았죠

God no, it was therapy.

절대로요. 하지만 치료였어요.

And he asked me several questions,

그리곤 제게 몇 가지 질문을 했어요.

of which many were, "Why?

대부분은 "왜?

Why are you fighting so hard

왜 당신 자신을 그렇게까지

not to be yourself?

부정하는거죠?

And do you love what you do, Caroline?"

당신이 하는 일을 사랑하긴 해요, 캐롤라인?" 이었어요

And you know, when you go to a global consulting firm,

또 글로벌 컨설팅펌에서 일하게 되면

they put a chip in your head, and you're like,

그들이 머리 속에 칩을 넣어서

"I love Accenture. I love Accenture. I love my job. I love Accenture.

"난 엑센츄어를 사랑해. 난 엑센츄어를 사랑해. 난 내 직업을 사랑해. 난 엑센츄어를 사랑해.

To leave would be failure.

"퇴사는 곧 실패다"라고 생각하게 될꺼에요.

And he said, "Do you love it?"

그리고 그는 "그 일이 좋아요?"라고 말했어요.

I couldn't even speak I was so choked up.

전 숨이 너무 막혀서 말도 할 수 없었어요

I just was so -- how do I tell him?

전... 뭐라고 말을 해야할까요?

And then he said to me, "What did you want to be when you were little?"

그는 또 "어렸을 때 뭐가 되고 싶었어요?" 라고 물었어요.

Now listen, I wasn't going to say to him, "Well, I wanted to race cars and motorbikes."

전 "자동차나 오토바이 경주를 하고 싶어요" 라고 말할 생각은 없었어요

Hardly appropriate at this moment in time.

그 상황에서 별로 적절하지 않았으니까요

He thought I was mad enough anyway.

그는 제가 화가 났다고 생각했을 거에요.

And as I left his office,

그리고 제가 그의 사무실을 나가려고 할 때

he called me back

그는 제게 전화를 해서

and he said, "I think it's time.

"지금이에요.

I think it's time

지금이 바로

to stop fighting and do something different."

And that door closed.

And that silence just outside a doctor's office,

많은 사람들이 알고 있는

that many of us know.

진료실 밖에서의 침묵...

And my chest ached.

가슴이 아프더군요.

And I had no idea where I was going. I had no idea.

전 제가 어디로 가는지 몰랐어요. 전혀요

But I did know the game was up.

하지만 그 싸움이 끝났다는 건 알았죠

And I went home, and, because the pain in my chest ached so much,

그리곤 집으로 향했고, 가슴이 너무 답답해서

I thought, "I'll go out for a run."

"나가서 좀 뛰어야겠어."라고 생각했어요.

Really not a very sensible thing to do.

그다지 적절한 행동은 아니었지만요.

And I went on a run that I know so well.

전 제가 잘 알고 있는 길을 달렸어요.

I know this run so well, by the back of my hand.

전 이 길을 제 손바닥을 들여다 보듯이 알고 있었어요.

I always run it perfectly fine.

항상 아무런 문제 없이 그 길을 달렸어요

I count the steps and the lampposts and all those things

발자국 수, 가로등 그리고

that visually impaired people have a tendency to have a lot of meetings with.

시각장애인들이 많이 마주하는 것들을 계산하면서요.

And there was a rock that I always missed.

그리고 제가 항상 까먹는 돌맹이가 있었죠.

And I'd never fallen on it, never.

전 결고 그걸 밟은 적이 없었어요

And there I was crying away,

전 거기서 그 돌을

and smash, bash on my rock.

치고 또 치면서 후회했어요

Broken, fallen over

전 상처를 받았고

on this rock

그 돌 위에 무너졌어요.

in the middle of March in 2000,

2000년 3월 중순

typical Irish weather on a Wednesday --

전형적인 아일랜드 날씨의 수요일에

gray, snot, tears everywhere,

온통 눈물, 콧물이 범벅이 되어

ridiculously self-pitying.

우스꽝스러운 모습으로 자기 연민에 빠졌어요.

And I was floored, and I was broken,

전 어안이 벙벙해졌고 무너졌어요

and I was angry.

또 화가 났었어요.

And I didn't know what to do.

그리고 난 어떻게해야할지 몰랐어요.

And I sat there for quite some time going,

꽤 오랜 시간동안 그냥 앉아 있었어요.

"How am I going to get off this rock and go home?

"도대체 내가 어떻게 이 곳을 박차고 나와서 집으로 갈 수 있지?"

Because who am I going to be?

제가 어떤 사람이 될지 몰랐기 때문이에요.

What am I going to be?"

제가 어떻게 될까요?

And I thought about my dad,

그리곤 아빠에 대해 생각했어요

and I thought, "Good God, I'm so not Sue now."

또 "맙소사, 난 지금 Sue랑 완전 다르잖아."라는 생각이 들었어요.

And I kept thinking over and over in my mind,

전 속으로 계속 생각을 했어요.

what had happened? Where did it go wrong? Why didn't I understand?

무슨 일이 있었는지, 어디서부터 잘못되었는지, 왜 내가 이해를 못하는지를요.

And you know, the extraordinary part of it

그 질문의 이상한 점은

is I just simply had no answers.

제가 그 답을 전혀 몰랐다는 거에요.

I had lost my belief.

전 제 믿음을 잃었었어요.

Look where my belief had brought me to.

제 믿음이 저를 어디로 데리고 왔는지 보세요.

And now I had lost it. And now I really couldn't see.

그런데 전 그걸 잃었었어요. 전혀 보이지가 않았어요.

I was crumpled.

전 무너졌어요/

And then I remember thinking about that eye specialist

그리고 나서 갑자기 제게

asking me, "What do you want to be? What do you want to be?

"뭐가 되고 싶나요? 뭐가 되고 싶은데요?

What did you want to be when you were little? Do you love what you do?

어렸을 때 어떤 사람이 되고싶어 했어요? 지금 하고 있는 일을 사랑하나요?

Do something different. What do you want to be?

다른 일을 해봐요. 뭐가 되고 싶어요?

Do something different. What do you want to be?"

다른 일을 해봐요. 뭐가 되고 싶어요?" 라고 묻던 안과의사가 생각났어요.

And really slowly, slowly, slowly,

그러자 정말 천천히 느리게 또 느리게

it happened.

변화가 일어났어요.

And it did happen this way.

이런 식으로 변화가 생긴거죠.

And then the minute it came,

그 순간,

it blew up in my head

제 머리 속에서는 폭발이 일어났고,

and bashed in my heart --

가슴은 요동쳤어요.

something different.

뭔가 다른,

"Well, how about Mowgli from 'The Jungle Book'?

음, '정글북'의 모글리랄까요?

You don't get more different than that."

그보다 더 많은 변화를 겪을 순 없을꺼에요.

And the moment, and I mean the moment,

그 순간, 바로 그 순간

the moment that hit me,

변화가 일어나는 바로 그 순간은

I swear to God,

정말이지 하늘에 맹세컨데

it was like woo hoo! You know -- something to believe in.

기분이 좋았어요!! 믿을 수 있는 뭔가가 있었죠.

And nobody can tell me no.

아무도 부정할 수 없었어요.

Yes, you can say I can't be an archeologist.

맞아요, 당신은 내가 고고학자가 아니라고 말할 수도 있어요.

But you can't tell me, no, I can't be Mowgli, because guess what?

하지만 제가 모글리가 아니라고는 할 수 없죠. 왠지 알아요?

Nobody's ever done it before, so I'm going to go do it.

이전에 아무도 그랬던 적이 없기 때문에 그래서 제가 그걸 할꺼거든요.

And it doesn't matter whether I'm a boy or a girl, I'm just going to scoot.

제가 남자든 여자든 그건 중요치 않아요. 전 앞으로 내디딜꺼니까요.

And so I got off that rock, and, oh my God, did I run home.

그리고 나서 전 바위에서 박차고 일어나서, 세상에나, 집까지 또 달려왔어요.

And I sprinted home, and I didn't fall, and I didn't crash.

집까지 넘어지지 않고, 부딪치지 않고 전력질주로 달려왔어요.

And I ran up the stairs, and there was one of my favorite books of all time,

그리곤 계단을 달려올라갔어요. 여러분들이 아실진 모르겠지만,

"Travels on My Elephant" by Mark Shand -- I don't know if any of you know it.

제가 가장 좋아하는 책 중에 하나인 Mark Shand의 "코끼리를 타고 여행하기"라는 책이 거기 있었어요.

And I grabbed this book off, and I'm sitting on the couch

그리곤 이 책을 붙잡고 소파에 앉아서

going, "I know what I'm going to do.

"내가 무슨 일을 해야하는 지 알겠어.

I know how to be Mowgli.

어떻게하면 모글리가 될 수 있는지 알 것 같아.

I'm going to go across India

난 코끼리를 타고

on the back of an elephant.

인도를 누빌꺼야.

I'm going to be an elephant handler."

난 코끼리 조련사가 되겠어." 라고 생각했죠.

And I had no idea

근데 전 어떻게

how I was going to be an elephant handler.

코끼리 조련사가 될 수 있는지 몰랐어요.

From global management consultant to elephant handler.

글로벌 경영 컨설턴트에서 코끼리 조련사로...

I had no idea how. I had no idea how you hire an elephant, get an elephant.

전혀 몰랐어요. 어떻게 코끼리를 고용하는지, 아니면 사는지를요.

I didn't speak Hindi. I'd never been to India. Hadn't a clue.

힌디어도 못했고 인도에 가본 적도 없었어요. 전혀 몰랐죠.

But I knew I would.

하지만 할꺼란 건 알았어요

Because, when you make a decision at the right time and the right place,

왜냐면 우리가 올바른 때와 장소에서 의사결정을 한다면,

God, that universe makes it happen for you.

우주가 우릴 위해서 그 일이 일어나게 만들어주니까요.

Nine months later, after that day on snot rock,

그 바위에서 울고난 지 9달 후

I had the only blind date in my life

전 2미터가 넘는 Kanchi라는 코끼리와

with a seven and a half foot elephant called Kanchi.

난생 처음으로 소개팅을 했어요.

And together we would trek a thousand kilometers

그리곤 같이 수 천 킬로미터에 걸쳐서

across India.

인도를 여행했어요

The most powerful thing of all,

그 중에서 가장 강력했던 것은

it's not that I didn't achieve before then. Oh my God, I did.

그 전에 제가 이룬 것이 없다는게 아니에요. 전 많이 이뤘어요.

But you know, I was believing in the wrong thing.

그게 아니라, 제가 틀린 것을 믿고 있었다는 거에요.

Because I wasn't believing in me,

왜냐면 전 제 자신을 믿지 않았거든요.

really me, all the bits of me --

진정한 저, 제 모든 것을

all the bits of all of us.

그리고 우리의 모든 것을요.

Do you know how much of us all pretend to be somebody we're not?

여러분은 우리가 얼마나 본래의 모습을 포기하고 다른 사람인척 하는지 알고 있나요?

And you know what, when you really believe in yourself and everything about you,

또, 여러분 자신을 믿거나 당신들과 관련된 모든 것을 믿을 때

it's extraordinary what happens.

일어나는 일들은 정말 굉장해요.

And you know what, that trip, that thousand kilometers,

그리고 그 수 천 킬로미터에 달하는 여행에서

it raised enough money for 6,000 cataract eye operations.

6000명 정도의 백내장 수술에 해당하는 성금이 모였어요.

Six thousand people got to see because of that.

덕분에 6000명의 사람들이 앞을 볼 수 있게 되었죠.

When I came home off that elephant,

그 여행을 하는 동안

do you know what the most amazing part was?

가장 놀라웠던 게 뭔지 아세요?

I chucked in my job at Accenture.

전 엑센츄어를 박차고 나왔어요.

I left, and I became a social entrepreneur,

그리곤 사회적 기업가가 되었고

and I set up an organization with Mark Shand called Elephant Family,

Mark Shand와 함께 Elephant Family라는

which deals with Asian elephant conservation.

아시아 코끼리 보호단체를 세웠어요.

And I set up Kanchi,

그리고 전 Kanchi라는 단체를 만들었어요.

because my organization was always going to be named after my elephant,

왜냐하면 제가 만든 단체는 항상 제 코끼리의 이름을 따서 만들었거든요.

because disability is like the elephant in the room.

장애는 코끼리가 방에 있는거랑 같기 때문이에요.

And I wanted to make you see it in a positive way --

그래서 전 여러분이 그걸 동점심이나, 동정이 아니라

no charity, no pity.

긍정적으로 봐주셨으면 해요.

But I wanted to work only and truly

하지만 전 사업체와 언론들과

with business and media leadership

장애가 흥미진진하고 가능성이 있는 것이라고

to totally reframe disability

완전히 재조명하기 위해

in a way that was exciting and possible.

일을 하고 싶었어요.

It was extraordinary.

정말 특별한 일이었어요.

That's what I wanted to do.

바로 제가 원하던 일이었죠.

And I never thought about noes anymore, or not seeing,

그리고 전 더이상 불가능이나 못 보는 것,

or any of that kind of nothing.

또는 그런 일들에 대해 생각하지 않았어요.

It just seemed that it was possible.

그냥 모든게 가능한 것처럼 보였거든요.

And you know, the oddest part is,

가장 이상한 점은

when I was on my way traveling here to TED,

솔직히 말하자면 제가 이곳 TED까지 오는 동안

I'll be honest, I was petrified.

전 두려웠어요

And I speak,

제가 발표를 하고 있지만

but this is an amazing audience,

이는 정말 놀라운 발표 기회에요.

and what am I doing here?

그리고 전 여기서 뭐하는 있는거죠?

But as I was traveling here,

여러분들이 좋아하실만한 이야기가 있어요.

you'll be very happy to know,

제가 여기로 오는 동안

I did use my white symbol stick cane,

전 제 흰색 지팡이를 썼어요.

because it's really good to skip queues in the airport.

왜냐하면 그것만 있으면 긴 대기열을 통과하기 쉬워지거든요.

And I got my way here

그리고 제가 앞을 못본다는 사실을 자랑스러워 하며

being happily proud that I couldn't see.

전 여기 도착했어요.

And the one thing is that a really good friend of mine,

제 정말 좋은 친구 중 한 명이 제가 떨린다는 사실을 알고

he texted me on the way over, knowing I was scared.

저에게 문자를 보내줬어요.

Even though I present confident, I was scared.

제가 자신감있게 행동을 하긴 했지만 사실 좀 두려웠어요.

He said, "Be you."

그는 "너 답게 행동해." 라고 말했죠.

And so here I am.

덕분에 여기 제가 서있습니다.

This is me, all of me.

이게 저에요, 제 모든 것이에요.

And I have learned, you know what,

그리고 전 자동차,

cars and motorbikes and elephants,

오토바이, 또 코끼리가

that's not freedom.

자유가 아니라는 것을 배웠어요.

Being absolutely true to yourself is freedom.

전적으로 자기 자신에게 진솔해지는 것, 그것이 자유에요.

And I never needed eyes to see -- never.

전 결코 앞을 볼 수 있는 눈이 필요한 게 아니였어요.

I simply needed vision and belief.

단지 비전과 믿음이 필요했었죠.

And if you truly believe --

만약 여러분이 정말 믿으신다면-

and I mean believe from the bottom of your heart --

가슴 속 깊숙히에서부터 믿으신다면-

you can make change happen.

삶의 변화를 이루어 내실 수 있을 겁니다.

And we need to make it happen,

그리고 우린 반드시 그 변화를 일으켜야만 해요.

because every single one of us --

왜냐하면

woman, man, gay, straight,

여자, 남자, 동성애자, 이성애자,

disabled, perfect,

장애인, 비장애인,

normal, whatever --

정상이건 아니건 간에

everyone of us

우리 모두가

must be the very best of ourselves.

우리의 최선을 다 해야하니까요.

I no longer want anybody to be invisible.

전 이제 누구라도 제외되는 것을 원치 않습니다.

We all have to be included.

우리 모두가 포함돼야 해요.

And stop with the labels, the limiting.

꼬리표를 붙이고, 떼고,

Losing of labels,

서로를 제한하는 것을 그만두세요.

because we are not jam jars.

우리는 잼 단지가 아니잖아요.

We are extraordinary, different, wonderful people.

우리들은 특별하고, 다르고, 경이로운 사람들이니까요.
