A woman in rags emerged from the swamp flanked by seven giant scorpions.

ژنێکێکی عەبا لەسەر لە ناو زەلکاوێک دەردەکەوێت کە حەوت دوپشکی لە دەورە.

Carrying a baby, she headed for the nearest village to beg for food.

منداڵێکی لە دەستە و ڕوو دەکاتە نزیکترین گوند بۆ ئەوەی داوای خواردن بکات.

She approached a magnificent mansion,

لە کۆشکێکی مەزن نزیک دەبێتەوە،

but the mistress of the house took one look at her grimy clothes

بەڵام خاوەنی کۆشک سەیرێکی بەرگی ترسناکی ژنەکە و هاوەڵە ناسروشتییەکانی

and unusual companions and slammed the door in her face.

دەکات و دەرگەکەی بە ڕودا دادەخات.

So she continued down the road until she came to a cottage.

ژنەکە بەری ڕێگە دەگرێت و دەگاتە کوخێک.

The woman there took pity on the stranger and offered her what she could:

ژنێک لە کوخەکە بەزەیی بە ژنەکە دێتەوە و هەر چی لە بەردەستە پێشکەشی دەکات:

a simple meal and a bed of straw.

ژەمێکی سادە و پێخەفێکی لە پوش دروستکراو.

Her guest was no ordinary beggar.

ژنەکە سواڵکەرێکی ئاسایی نابێت.

She was Isis, the most powerful goddess in Egypt.

ئەو ئیزیەسە، بەهێزترین خواوەندی میسرە.

Isis was in hiding from her brother Set,

ئیزیەس خۆی لە براکەی ئەنوبیەس دەشارێتەوە،

who murdered her husband and wanted to murder her infant son, Horus.

کە هاوسەری ئیزیەسی دەکوژێت و بەنیازە کوڕەکەشی، حوروس، بکوژێت.

Set was also a powerful god, and he was looking for them.

ئەنوبیەسیش خواوەندێکی بەهێز بوو، بە دوای خوشک و خوشکەزاکەی وێڵ بوو.

So to keep her cover, Isis had to be very discreet—

بۆئەوەی خۆی بشارێتەوە، ئیزیەس دەبوو ببێتە کەسێکیتر

she couldn’t risk using her powers.

لە بەکار هێنانی هێزە بێشومارەکەی خۆی ببورێت.

But she was not without aid.

بەڵام ئیزیەس تەنیا نەبوو.

Serket, goddess of venomous creatures,

سیرکێت، خواوەندی ئاژەڵە خاوەن ژەهرەکان، هاوکاری ئیزیەس دەبێت،

had sent seven of her fiercest servants to guard Isis and her son.

و حەوت لە هارترین خزمەتکارەکانی بۆ پارستنی ئیزیەس دەنێرێت.

As Isis and Horus settled into their humble accommodation,

دوای ئەوەی ئیزیەس و نحوروس لە کوخێکی ئاسایی دەحەسێنەوە،

the scorpions fumed at how the wealthy woman had offended their divine mistress.

دووپشکەکان لە هەڵسوکەوتی ژنە دەوڵەمەندەکە بەرامبەر بە ئیزیسە توڕە دەبن.

They all combined their venom and gave it to one of the seven, Tefen.

ژەهرەکانیان کۆ کردەوە و بەخشیانە یەکێکیان بە ناوی تیفان.

In the dead of night, Tefen crept over to the mansion.

لە درەنگەکانی شەودا، تیفان دەچێتە ناو کۆشکەکە.

As he crawled under the door,

کاتێک لە ژێر دەرگە دەچێتە ناو کۆشکەکە،

he saw the owner’s young son sleeping peacefully

چاوی دەکەوێتە سەر کوڕێکی بچووک کە بە ئارامی خەوتووە

and gave him a mighty sting.

پێوەی دەدات.

Isis and her hostess were soon awakened by loud wailing.

ئیزیەس و خانەخوێیەکەی بە هۆی دەنگێکی گەورە و ترسهێنەر بەخەبەر دێن.

As they peered out of the doorway of the cottage,

کاتێک گەیشتنە بەر دەرگە،

they saw a mother running through the street,

ژنێک لە شەقامەکە ڕای دەکرد،

weeping as she cradled her son.

منداڵەکەی لە ئامێز بوو و دەگریا.

When Isis recognized the woman who had turned her away,

کاتێک ئیزیەس ژنەکەی ناسیەوە کە پێشووتر دەرگەکەی بە ڕوویدا داخست،

she understood what her scorpions had done.

تێگەیشت کە دوپشکەکانی چیان کردووە.

Isis took the boy in her arms and began to recite a powerful spell:

ئیزیەس کوڕەکەی لە ئامێز گرت، وردە وردە جادووی خوێند،

"O poison of Tefen, come out of him and fall upon the ground!

ئۆ ژەهری تیفان، لە جەستەی کورەکە وەرە دەرەوە و خۆت بخە سەر زەوی.

Poison of Befen, advance not, penetrate no farther, come out of him,

ژەهری تیفان، لە جەستەی کوڕەکە بکشێوە، پێشڕەوی مەکە، وەرە دەرەوە،

and fall upon the ground!

و خۆت بخە سەر زەوی.

For I am Isis, the great Enchantress, the Speaker of spells.

چونکە من ئیزیەسم و خاوەن جادووم.

Fall down, O poison of Mestet! Hasten not, poison of Mestetef!

خۆت بەردەوە، ژەهری ماستیت کاریگەریت پوچەڵ بکەوە!

Rise not, poison of Petet and Thetet! Approach not, poison of Matet!"

ژەهری پیتیت و تیتیت بەرز مەبەوە، ژەهری ماتیت نزیک مەبەوە!

With each name she invoked, that scorpion’s poison was neutralized.

لەگەڵ ناوهێنانی هەر یەک لە دوپشکەکان، کاریگەری ژەهرەکانیان دەوەستا.

The child stirred, and his mother wept with gratitude

منداڵەکە دەهاتەوە هۆش خۆی و دایکەکەش بە دەم گریانەوە سوپاسگوزاری دەردەبڕی

and lamented her earlier callousness,

لە دڵرەقی پێشووی پەشیمان بوو،

offering all her wealth to Isis in repentance.

سەرجەم سامانەکەی پێشکەشی ئیزیەس کرد وەک پەشیمان بوونەوە لە دڵرەقی خۆی.

The woman who had taken Isis in watched in awe—

ژنەکەی کە پێشوتر ئیزیەسی لە خۆ گۆت، بە ترسەوە سەیری دەکرد

she had had no idea who she’d brought under her roof.

هیچ بیرۆکەیەکی نەبوو کە کێی داڵدە داوە.

And from that day on,

لەم ڕۆژە بە دواوە،

the people learned to make a poultice to treat scorpion bites,

خەڵک فێری چۆنیەتی چارەسەر کردنی ژەهری پێوەدانی دوپشک دەبن،

speaking magical incantations just as the goddess had.

بە گوتنەوەی چەند جادویەک بەو شێوەی خواوەند ئیزیەس کردی.
