I'm Esther and in this video I'm going to teach you how to ask someone for permission

ငါက Esther ဖြစ်ပြီး ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ မင်းကို တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်ဆီက ခွင့်ပြုချက်တောင်းနည်းကို သင်ပေးမှာ

Okay so before I teach you that,

ဆိုတော့ ဟုတ်ပြီ အဲဒါကို မသင်ပေးခင်မှာ

let's first talk about what permission means.

ခွင့်ပြုချက်ရဲ့ အဓိပ္ပါယ်ကို အရင်ပြောကြည့်ရအောင်။

Okay so...

အိုကေ...

When you want to ask someone if it's okay to do something, you're asking for permission.

တစ်ခုခုလုပ်လို့ အဆင်ပြေလားလို့ တစ်ယောက်ယောက်ကို မေးချင်တဲ့အခါ ခွင့်ပြုချက်တောင်းတယ်။

Okay again, you want to do something, you don't know if it's okay, so you ask someone.

ကောင်းပြီ နောက်တစ်ခါ မင်းတစ်ခုခုလုပ်ချင်တယ်၊ အဆင်ပြေလားမသိဘူး၊ ဒါကြောင့် မင်းတစ်ယောက်ယောက်ကို မေးကြည့်တယ်။

For example, maybe you want to borrow something.

ဥပမာ၊ တစ်ခုခု ချေးချင်နေတာ။

Then you should ask someone.

ပြီးရင် တစ်ယောက်ယောက်ကို မေးသင့်တယ်။

If you just take it that's stealing, right?

ခိုးယူရုံပဲ မဟုတ်လား။

So you have to ask.

ဒီတော့ မေးရမယ်။

Is it okay? Alright?

အဆင်ပြေလား ကောင်းပြီလား။

So there are three ways to ask for permission in English.

ထို့ကြောင့် အင်္ဂလိပ်ဘာသာဖြင့် ခွင့်ပြုချက်တောင်းရန် နည်းလမ်းသုံးမျိုးရှိသည်။

The first way is to say, "Can I...?" "Can I...?" Okay.

ပထမနည်းက "ငါ... နိုင်မလား?" "ရမလား...?" ဟုတ်ပြီ

The second way is "Could I...?" "Could I...?"

ဒုတိယနည်းကတော့ "ကျွန်မ...?" "ရမလား...?"

And the third way is, "May I...?" "May I...?" Okay.

တတိယနည်းကတော့ "ရမလား...?" "ရမလား...?" ဟုတ်ပြီ

So 'can I', 'could I', and 'may I' are all good

ဒါကြောင့် 'နိုင်မလား' 'နိုင်မလား' နဲ့ 'ရမလား' အားလုံးကို

ways to ask for permission.

ခွင့်ပြုချက်တောင်းဖို့ နည်းလမ်းကောင်းတွေပါ။

But the third one, 'may I', is more polite. Okay.

ဒါပေမယ့် တတိယမြောက် 'မေမေ' က ပိုယဉ်ကျေးတယ်။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

So if you want to ask somebody who has more power,

ဒါကြောင့် အာဏာပိုရှိတဲ့သူကို မေးချင်ရင်

maybe your parents, may be your teacher,

မင်းရဲ့မိဘတွေ၊ မင်းရဲ့ဆရာဖြစ်နိုင်တယ် ၊

then you should say 'may I'.

'ရမလား' လို့ ပြောသင့်တယ်။

Maybe even to somebody that you don't know very well,

သင် ကောင်းကောင်းမသိတဲ့ သူတစ်ယောက်အတွက်တောင် ဖြစ်နိုင်ရင်

it's better to say may I because again it's more polite.

ပိုယဉ်ကျေးတယ် လို့ပဲ ပြောနိုင်ရင် ပိုကောင်းပါတယ်။

So let's look at these examples.

ဒီတော့ ဒီဥပမာတွေကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။ ကောင်းပြီ

Okay so I've written 'can I', 'could I', and 'may I'

ဘုတ်ပေါ်မှာ 'နိုင်မလား' 'could I' နဲ့ 'ရမလား' ဆိုပြီး ရေးထားတယ်

on the board.

Remember, after these three, you have to say a verb.

ဤသုံးချက်ပြီးနောက်၊ သင်သည် ကြိယာတစ်ခုပြောရမည်ကို သတိရပါ။

Okay so let's look at the verbs.

ကောင်းပြီ ဒါဆို ကြိယာတွေကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

'help' 'see' 'have' 'call' 'borrow' 'go' 'speak' and 'go' again.

'ကူ' 'ကြည့်' 'ခေါ်' 'ချေး' 'သွား' 'ပြော' 'သွား' ပြန်သည်။

Okay so I know I went through that a little bit quickly but

ကောင်းပြီ အဲဒါနည်းနည်း မြန်မြန်ကျော်သွားတာ ငါသိပေမယ့်

we're going to go through it slowly now.

အခု ဖြည်းဖြည်းချင်း ဖြတ်သွားတော့မယ်။

Okay so here's what we'll do.

ကောင်းပြီ ဒါဆို ငါတို့လုပ်မယ်။

I'm going to read and try to switch some around. Okay?

ကျွန်တော် စာဖတ်ပြီး အပြောင်းအလဲ ဖြစ်အောင် ကြိုးစားပါ့မယ်။ အဆင်ပြေလား?

So... "Can I help you?"

ဒါဆို... "ငါ မင်းကို ကူညီပေးနိုင်မလား?"

"Can I help you?"

"ကူညီပါရစေ?"

Let's try that a little bit faster.

အဲဒါကို နည်းနည်းမြန်အောင် စမ်းကြည့်ရအောင်။

"Can I help you?"

"ကူညီပါရစေ?"

"Can I help you?"

"ကူညီပါရစေ?"

Now remember, you can also say 'could I' and 'may I'.

သတိရပါ၊ 'နိုင်မလား' နှင့် 'ရနိုင်' ဟုလည်း ပြောနိုင်သည်။

For example, if you're walking through a department store,

ဥပမာအားဖြင့်၊ သင်သည် ကုန်စုံဆိုင်တစ်ဆိုင်တွင် လမ်းလျှောက်နေပြီး

and the salesperson comes to you,

အရောင်းဝန်ထမ်းသည် သင့်ထံသို့ ရောက်ရှိလာပါက

they would probably say, "May I help you?" because they want to be polite to the customer.

၊ "ငါ မင်းကို ကူညီရမလား။" ဘာလို့လဲဆိုတော့ သူတို့က ဖောက်သည်တွေကို ယဉ်ကျေးစေချင်လို့ပါ။

So again, "May I help you?"

ဒါနဲ့ "ငါ မင်းကို ကူညီရမလား"

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

"Can I see you again?"

"ပြန်တွေ့လို့ရမလား?"

"Can I see you again?"

"ပြန်တွေ့လို့ရမလား?"

A little bit faster.

နည်းနည်းမြန်တယ်။

"Can I see you again?"

"ပြန်တွေ့လို့ရမလား?"

Maybe you like someone you met them and you like them

မင်းသူတို့နဲ့တွေ့တဲ့လူကို ကြိုက်သလို မင်းလည်းသူတို့ကို သဘောကျပြီး

and you want to see them again next time,

နောက်တစ်ခါပြန်တွေ့ချင်နေတာ ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်၊

So you say, "Can I see you again?"

ဒါကြောင့် "ငါမင်းကိုထပ်တွေ့လို့ရမလား" လို့ပြောလိုက်တယ်။

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

"Can I have some water?"

"ရေနည်းနည်းလောက်ရမလား"

"Can I have some water?"

"ရေနည်းနည်းလောက်ရမလား"

A little bit faster.

နည်းနည်းမြန်တယ်။

"Can I have some water?"

"ရေနည်းနည်းလောက်ရမလား"

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

Let's try a couple with 'could'.

'တတ်နိုင်' နဲ့ စမ်းကြည့်ရအောင်။

"Could I call you later?"

"နောက်မှ ခေါ်လို့ရမလား"

"Could I call you later?"

"နောက်မှ ခေါ်လို့ရမလား"

Again, remember, you can use all three, but we're doing 'could'.

တစ်ဖန်၊ သင်သည် သုံးခုလုံးကို သုံးနိုင်သော်လည်း 'could' လုပ်နေသည်ကို သတိရပါ။

"Could I call you later?"

"နောက်မှ ခေါ်လို့ရမလား"

"Could I borrow some money?"

"ပိုက်ဆံနည်းနည်းချေးလို့ရမလား"

Okay. You usually borrow money from a friend or somebody that you know,

ဟုတ်ပြီ သင်ဟာ သူငယ်ချင်း ဒါမှမဟုတ် သင်သိတဲ့ တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်ဆီကနေ ပိုက်ဆံချေးလေ့ရှိတဲ့အတွက်

so that's why it's better to say maybe 'can I' or 'could I'.

ကြောင့် 'ငါဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်' ဒါမှမဟုတ် 'ငါနိုင်မလား'လို့ ပြောတာက ပိုကောင်းပါတယ်။

"Could I borrow some money?"

"ပိုက်ဆံနည်းနည်းချေးလို့ရမလား"

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

"Could I go?"

"သွားလို့ရမလား?"

"Could I go?"

"သွားလို့ရမလား?"

You want to leave, so you're asking if it's okay.

မင်းထွက်သွားချင်ပြီမို့ အဆင်ပြေလားလို့ မေးနေတာ။

"Could I go?"

"သွားလို့ရမလား?"

Okay and remember 'may I' is polite okay

ကောင်းပြီ၊ 'ရမလား' လို့ ယဉ်ယဉ်ကျေးကျေး သတိရပါ

you want to say that to someone who's a little bit more important,

မင်းက နည်းနည်း ပိုအရေးကြီးတဲ့ သူတစ်ယောက်၊

maybe someone you don't know.

မင်းမသိတဲ့သူတစ်ယောက်ကို ပြောချင်တာလား။

Again you would use 'may I'.

'ရမလား' လို့ သုံးပြန်တယ်။

So "May I speak to mr. Kim?"

ဒါနဲ့ "Mr. Kim နဲ့ စကားပြောလို့ရမလား?"

Maybe you called his office, okay, so you say,

မင်း သူ့ရုံးခန်းကို ခေါ်တာ ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်၊ ဒါနဲ့

"May I speak to mr. Kim?"

"မစ္စတာ ကင်မ်နဲ့ စကားပြောလို့ရမလား" လို့ ပြောလိုက်တယ်။

And the last one -

နောက်ဆုံးတစ်ခုကတော့

"May I go to the bathroom?"

"ရေချိုးခန်းသွားလို့ရမလား"

This one is maybe if you're asking a teacher.

ဒါက ဆရာကိုမေးရင် ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်။

Right? You're in class and you have to go, you can ask a teacher

ဟုတ်တယ်ဟုတ်? မင်း အတန်းထဲရောက်နေပြီ၊ မင်းသွားရမယ်၊ "ရေချိုးခန်းသွားလို့ရမလား"

"May I go to the bathroom?"

ဆရာမကို မေးနိုင်ပါတယ်။

Again, 'can I' 'could' 'can' and 'could' are both okay.

တစ်ဖန် 'နိုင်' 'နိုင်' 'နိုင်' နှင့် 'နိုင်' နှစ်မျိုးလုံး အဆင်ပြေသည်။

But maybe it's more polite....

ဒါပေမယ့် ပိုယဉ်ကျေးတာဖြစ်မယ်....

If you want to be polite, you should say,

ယဉ်ကျေးချင်ရင်

"May I go to the bathroom?"

"အိမ်သာသွားလို့ရမလား?"

And I'm sure the teacher will like that better because you're being polite.

ပြီးတော့ မင်းက ယဉ်ကျေးတယ်ဆိုတော့ ဆရာမက ပိုသဘောကျမှာ သေချာပါတယ်။

Okay. So...

ဟုတ်ပြီ ဒါကြောင့်...

In this video we learned three ways to ask for permission.

ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ ခွင့်ပြုချက်တောင်းနည်းသုံးနည်းကို လေ့လာခဲ့ပါတယ်။

Let's go through them one more time.

နောက်တစ်ကြိမ် သူတို့ကို ဖြတ်ကျော်ကြပါစို့။

ပြီးတော့ ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ အရေးကြီးတဲ့ အင်္ဂလိပ်အသုံးအနှုန်းတချို့အကြောင်း ဆွေးနွေးပါမယ်။

Let’s first start with 'like and like to'

'ကြိုက်သလို ကြိုက်တယ်'

I like

ကြိုက်သလို

and I like to'

ကြိုက်တယ်' နဲ့

First, let's look at the board for some examples.

အရင်စကြရအောင် ဥပမာ အချို့အတွက် ဘုတ်ကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

With 'I like', we have to put a  person, place or thing, right?

'ငါကြိုက်တယ်' နဲ့ လူတစ်ယောက်၊ နေရာ ဒါမှမဟုတ် အရာတစ်ခုကို ထားရမှာ မဟုတ်လား။

So let's look.

ကြည့်လိုက်ရအောင်။

'I like cookies.' Right, food is a thing.

'ကွတ်ကီး ကြိုက်တယ်။' မှန်ပါတယ်၊ အစားအသောက်က အရာတစ်ခုပါ။

So I could say, 'I like cookies'.

ဒါကြောင့် 'ကွတ်ကီးတွေကို ကြိုက်တယ်' လို့ ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။

'I like pizza.'

'ငါပီဇာကြိုက်တယ်။'

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

The next one.

နောက်တစ်ခု။

'I like English'

'အင်္ဂလိပ်ကို ကြိုက်တယ်'

English is a subject in school,

English က ကျောင်းမှာ ဘာသာရပ်တစ်ခု

so that's another thing,

မို့ နောက်တစ်ခုက

so I can also say, 'I like math',

'ငါသင်္ချာကို ကြိုက်တယ်' လို့ ပြောလို့ ရပါတယ်

Right?

The next one is, 'I like you.'

နောက်တစ်ခုက 'ငါမင်းကိုကြိုက်တယ်။'

You is a person.

မင်းဟာလူပဲ။

I can say, 'I like him.'

'ကျွန်တော် သူ့ကို ကြိုက်တယ်' လို့ ပြောနိုင်ပါတယ်။

'I like Sally.'

'ဆယ်လီကို ကြိုက်တယ်။'

Right?

I can say a person.

ဟုတ်တယ်ဟုတ်?

လူတစ်ယောက်လို့ ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။

And, 'I like dogs.'

ပြီးတော့ 'ခွေးကြိုက်တယ်။'

That's another thing.

အဲဒါ နောက်တစ်မျိုး။

I like dogs or for me,  personally, I like cats as well.

ခွေးကြိုက်တာပဲဖြစ်ဖြစ်၊ ပုဂ္ဂိုလ်ရေးအရ ကြောင်လည်းကြိုက်တယ်။

Okay, so let's first try these  examples a little bit faster.

ကောင်းပြီ ဒါဆို ဒီနမူနာတွေကို နည်းနည်းမြန်အောင် အရင်စမ်းကြည့်ရအောင်။

Now please try to follow with me.

ယခု ကျွန်ုပ်နှင့်အတူ လိုက်ရန် ကြိုးစားပါ။

'I like cookies.'

'ကွတ်ကီး ကြိုက်တယ်။'

'I like cookies.'

'ကွတ်ကီး ကြိုက်တယ်။'

'I like English.'

'အင်္ဂလိပ်စာကို ကြိုက်တယ်။'

'I like English.'

'အင်္ဂလိပ်စာကို ကြိုက်တယ်။'

'I like you.'

'မင်းကိုကြိုက်တယ်။'

'I like you.'

'မင်းကိုကြိုက်တယ်။'

And, 'I like dogs.'

ပြီးတော့ 'ခွေးကြိုက်တယ်။'

'I like dogs.'

'ခွေးကြိုက်တယ်။'

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

The second example is,

ဒုတိယဥပမာကတော့

I like to

I like to

Now, we put a 'to' here.

Now လို့ 'to' လို့ တင်ပေးလိုက်ပါတယ်။

That means after, I have to put an activity.

ဆိုလိုတာက ပြီးရင် လှုပ်ရှားမှုတစ်ခု လုပ်ရမယ်။

Right? An activity.

ဟုတ်တယ်ဟုတ်? လှုပ်ရှားမှုတစ်ခု။

For example, 'I like to dance.'

ဥပမာ၊ 'ကခုန်ရတာကြိုက်တယ်။'

'I like to dance.'

'ကခုန်ရတာကြိုက်တယ်။'

But what I want you listen for is that 'to' becomes just like a 'tuh!'

ဒါပေမယ့် မင်းနားထောင်စေချင်တာက 'to' က 'tuh' နဲ့တူတယ်။

Now, It's ok to say, 'I like to dance.'

အခုတော့ 'ကခုန်ရတာကြိုက်တယ်' လို့ ပြောလို့ အဆင်ပြေပါတယ်။

'I like to dance'.

'ကခုန်ရတာကြိုက်တယ်'

That's okay but most native English speakers,

အဆင်ပြေပေမယ့် မူရင်းအင်္ဂလိပ်စကားပြောသူအများစုကတော့

will kind of get rid of the 'o' and say,

'o' ကို ဖြုတ်ပြီး

'I like to dance.'

'ကခုန်ရတာကြိုက်တယ်' လို့ ပြောပါလိမ့်မယ်။

'I like to dance.'

'ကခုန်ရတာကြိုက်တယ်။'

Here is the next one,

နောက်တစ်ခုကတော့

'I like to sing.'

'ငါ သီချင်းဆိုရတာ ကြိုက်တယ်' တဲ့။

'I like to sing.'

'ငါသီချင်းဆိုရတာကိုကြိုက်တယ်။'

'I like to study.'

'စာကျက်ရတာကြိုက်တယ်။'

'I like to shop.'

'ဈေးဝယ်ရတာ ကြိုက်တယ်။'

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

So, these are all personally things that I like to do.

ဒီတော့ ဒါတွေအားလုံးဟာ ကိုယ်ရေးကိုယ်တာ ဝါသနာပါတဲ့အရာတွေပါ။

Actually, I love to them.

တကယ်တော့ ကျွန်တော် သူတို့ကို ချစ်တယ်။

But 'like to' and 'like' is a little more common.

ဒါပေမယ့် 'like to' နဲ့ 'like' က နည်းနည်းပိုသာတယ်။

Okay.

So let's practice these  four examples one more time.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

ဒီတော့ ဒီဥပမာလေးခုကို နောက်တစ်ကြိမ် လေ့ကျင့်ကြည့်ရအောင်။

A little more quickly.

နည်းနည်းပိုမြန်တယ်။

Okay, let's look at some more examples together.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ နောက်ထပ် ဥပမာအချို့ကို အတူတူကြည့်ရအောင်။

I like school.

ကျောင်းကို ကြိုက်တယ်။

I like dresses.

ဝတ်စုံတွေကို ကြိုက်တယ်။

I like pizza.

ငါပီဇာကြိုက်တယ်။

I like money.

ပိုက်ဆံကြိုက်တယ်။

I like vacations.

အားလပ်ရက်တွေကို ကြိုက်တယ်။

I like food.

အစားအသောက်ကြိုက်တယ်။

I like to eat.

စားရတာကြိုက်တယ်။

I like to exercise.

လေ့ကျင့်ခန်းလုပ်ရတာ ကြိုက်တယ်။

I like to walk.

လမ်းလျှောက်ရတာ ကြိုက်တယ်။

I like to drink coffee.

ကော်ဖီသောက်ရတာကြိုက်တယ်။

I like to meet friends.

သူငယ်ချင်းတွေနဲ့တွေ့ရတာကြိုက်တယ်။

I like to travel.

ခရီးသွားရတာ ကြိုက်တယ်။

Okay, so now we're going to  move on to the expression,

အိုကေ၊ ဒါဆို အခု ငါတို့ 'မကြိုက်ဘူး'

'I don’t like'

နဲ့ 'မကြိုက်ဘူး' ဆိုတဲ့

and 'I don’t like to.'

အသုံးအနှုန်းကို ဆက်သွားတော့မယ်

Okay.

။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

So, if you look at the board,

ဒီတော့ ဘုတ်ကိုကြည့်ရင်

I've changed 'I like' to 'I don’t like'.

'ငါကြိုက်တယ်' 'မကြိုက်ဘူး' ဆိုပြီး ပြောင်းလိုက်တယ်။

Now, it’s the same.

အခုလည်း အတူတူပါပဲ။

At the end, I have to say a person, a place or thing.

အဆုံးမှာတော့ လူတစ်ဦး၊ နေရာတစ်ခု သို့မဟုတ် အရာတစ်ခုကို ပြောရပါမယ်။

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

So, let’s look at them together.

ဒီတော့ သူတို့ကို အတူတူကြည့်ရအောင်။

I don’t like sushi.

ဆူရှီမကြိုက်ဘူး။

Let’s try it a little bit faster.

နည်းနည်းမြန်အောင် စမ်းကြည့်ရအောင်။

I don’t like sushi.

ဆူရှီမကြိုက်ဘူး။

I don’t like sushi.

ဆူရှီမကြိုက်ဘူး။

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

The next one is,

နောက်တစ်ခုက

I don’t like math.

သင်္ချာမကြိုက်ဘူး။

Right.

We can say 'I hate' but 'I  don’t like' is more common.

မှန်တယ်။

'မုန်းတယ်' လို့ ပြောနိုင်ပေမယ့် 'မကြိုက်ဘူး' က ပိုအဖြစ်များတယ်။

I don’t like math.

ငါသင်္ချာမကြိုက်ဘူး။

Again a little faster.

နည်းနည်းမြန်ပြန်တယ်။

I don’t like math.

ငါသင်္ချာမကြိုက်ဘူး။

I don’t like math.

ငါသင်္ချာမကြိုက်ဘူး။

The next one is,

နောက်တစ်ခုက

I don’t like him.

ငါသူ့ကို မကြိုက်ဘူး။

I don’t like him.

ငါသူ့ကိုမကြိုက်ဘူး။

I don’t like him.

ငါသူ့ကိုမကြိုက်ဘူး။

And the last one,

နောက်ဆုံးတစ်ခုကတော့

I don’t like snakes.

မြွေတွေကို မကြိုက်ဘူး။

Right, a lot of women don’t like snakes.

မှန်ပါတယ်၊ အမျိုးသမီးတော်တော်များများက မြွေတွေကို မကြိုက်ကြပါဘူး။

I don’t like snakes.

မြွေတွေကို မကြိုက်ဘူး။

I don’t like snakes.

Instead of 'I like', I can  also say 'I enjoy' or 'I love'.

'ကြိုက်တယ်' အစား 'ပျော်တယ်' ဒါမှမဟုတ် 'ချစ်တယ်' လို့လည်း ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။

Remember, 'love' is very strong, right.

'ချစ်ခြင်း' သည် အလွန်ခိုင်မာသည်ကို သတိရပါ။

For example, 'I love cats'.

ဥပမာ 'ကြောင်ကို ချစ်တယ်'။

I also love dogs.

ခွေးကိုလည်း ချစ်တယ်။

Right?

ဟုတ်တယ်ဟုတ်?

So, 'love' is stronger than 'like'.

ဒါကြောင့် 'ချစ်ခြင်း' က 'ကြိုက်' ထက် ပိုခိုင်မာတယ်။

I can also say, 'I dislike'.

For example, 'I dislike snakes'.

Right? Or 'I hate snakes'.

Similar to 'love',

'ချစ်တယ်' နဲ့ ဆင်တူတယ်၊

'hate' is a very strong way of saying I don’t like something.

'မုန်းတယ်' ဟာ တစ်ခုခုကို မကြိုက်ဘူး လို့ ပြောနိုင်တဲ့ ပြင်းထန်တဲ့ နည်းလမ်းတစ်ခုပါ။

For example, 'I hate snakes'.

ဥပမာ 'မြွေမုန်းတယ်'။

Right! 'I hate snakes.'

မှန်တယ်! 'မြွေတွေကို ငါမုန်းတယ်။'

And in this video, we’re going to talk about a slang word that is “What’s up?”

ပြီးတော့ ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ “ဘာတွေလဲ” ဆိုတဲ့ ဘန်းစကားအကြောင်း ပြောသွားပါမယ်။

So “What’s up?” can be used in 2 ways.

ဘာထူးလဲ?" 2 နည်းလမ်းဖြင့်သုံးနိုင်သည်။

The first way is a way to  greet people to say, 'hi'.

ပထမနည်းကတော့ 'မင်္ဂလာပါ' လို့ လူတွေကို နှုတ်ဆက်တဲ့နည်းလမ်းပါ။

And actually when we say, “What’s up?”, it means “hi”, “how are you?”

“ဘာဖြစ်တာလဲ” လို့ ပြောတဲ့အခါ “မင်္ဂလာပါ” “နေကောင်းလား” လို့ အဓိပ္ပာယ်ရပါတယ်။

or “What are you doing these days?” right.

ဒါမှမဟုတ် "ဒီနေ့ ဘာလုပ်နေတာလဲ" မှန်တယ်

“What are you up to these days?”

"ဒီရက်ပိုင်း မင်းဘာဖြစ်နေတာလဲ"

So that’s the first way we use “What’s up?”

ဒီတော့ အဲဒါက “ဘာထူးလဲ” ဆိုတဲ့ ပထမဆုံးနည်းကို သုံးပါတယ်။

The second way is to ask, “What’s wrong?” “Is something wrong?”

ဒုတိယနည်းကတော့ “ဘာဖြစ်နေတာလဲ” လို့ မေးပါတယ်။ "တစ်ခုခုမှားနေလား?"

“Is something bad happening to you?” right.

"မင်း တစ်ခုခု ဆိုးနေတာလား" မှန်တယ်

So those are the two ways we can use ‘What’s up?’.

ဒီတော့ အဲဒါတွေက 'ဘာထူးလဲ?' ကိုသုံးနိုင်တဲ့ နည်းလမ်းနှစ်ခုပါ။

So let’s look at these example sentences.

ဒီတော့ ဒီဥပမာဝါကျတွေကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

Here is the first one.

ဒီမှာ ပထမတစ်ခု။

“Hey, Susie. What’s up?”

"ဟေး Susie။ ဘာတွေထူးလဲ?"

So this person, 'A", is asking Susie,

ဒါနဲ့ ဒီလူက 'A' က Susie က

“Hey Susie how are you?"

"ဟေ့ Susie နေကောင်းလား"

or “Hey, Susie. What are you up to these days?”

ဒါမှမဟုတ် "ဟေး Susie။ ဒီရက်ပိုင်း မင်းဘာတွေလုပ်နေလဲ"

“What are you doing these days?”

"ဒီရက်ပိုင်း ဘာလုပ်နေတာလဲ"

And here are some ways you can answer.

ဤသည်မှာ သင်ဖြေနိုင်သော နည်းလမ်းအချို့ဖြစ်သည်။

"Nothing much."

"ဘာမှမဟုတ်​ဘူး။"

That means nothing special  is happening in my life.

ဆိုလိုတာက ငါ့ဘဝမှာ ဘာမှထူးခြားမလာဘူး။

I’m not doing much or maybe if they said,

ငါအများကြီးမလုပ်ဘူး ဒါမှမဟုတ် သူတို့က

"Hey Susie what’s up?"

"ဟေး Susie ဘာဖြစ်နေတာလဲ?"

Susie can say, “I’m going to the movies.”

Susie က "ငါရုပ်ရှင်သွားမယ်။"

She would just say what she’s doing. Right.

သူဘာလုပ်နေတယ်ဆိုတာပဲ ပြောလိမ့်မယ်။ မှန်တယ်။

Another way, remember the second way, is to ask,

နောက်တနည်းကတော့ ဒုတိယနည်းကို သတိရတာက

“What’s wrong?” “Is everything okay?”

“ဘာမှားနေလဲ” လို့ မေးပါ။ "အားလုံးအဆင်ပြေရဲ့လား?"

So here is how we would use it.

ဒီတော့ အဲဒါကို ဘယ်လိုသုံးမလဲ။

"You look upset."

"မင်း စိတ်ဆိုးနေပုံပဲ။"

"What’s up?"

"ဘာတွေထူးလဲ?"

Again, "You look upset. What’s up?",

တဖန် "မင်းစိတ်ဆိုးနေတာလား။ ဘာဖြစ်နေတာလဲ"

"What’s wrong?"

"ဘာဖြစ်နေတာလဲ"

And maybe this person would say,

ပြီးတော့ ဒီလူက

“I lost my wallet.”

“ကျွန်မ ပိုက်ဆံအိတ် ပျောက်သွားတယ်” လို့ ပြောတာမျိုး ဖြစ်နိုင်ပါတယ်။

That’s why they’re upset.

အဲဒါကြောင့် သူတို့စိတ်ဆိုးတယ်။

“I lost my wallet.”

"ကျွန်တော့်ပိုက်ဆံအိတ်ပျောက်သွားတယ်။"

So you can say why you look upset.

ဒါဆို မင်းဘာကြောင့် စိတ်ဆိုးနေလဲလို့ ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။

“What’s going on?” Or “What’s wrong?”

"ဘာတွေဖြစ်နေတာလဲ?" ဒါမှမဟုတ် "ဘာဖြစ်နေတာလဲ?"

Now let’s look at how to  pronounce it one more time.

ကဲ နောက်တစ်ခေါက် အသံထွက်နည်းကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

“What’s up?”

"ဘာတွေထူးလဲ?"

It’s almost like what’s and up are blended, like they are connected.

၎င်းတို့သည် ချိတ်ဆက်ထားသကဲ့သို့ အရာနှင့်အထက်ကို ရောစပ်ထားသကဲ့သို့ ဖြစ်နေပါသည်။

“What’s up?”

And I also want to mention

They take out the ‘s’.

Or some people even just say ‘sup’ right?

‘Sup’ that means the same thing

'Sup' ဆိုသည်မှာ အတူတူပင်

but I want you guys to make  sure that you use “What’s up?”

ဖြစ်သော်လည်း "What's up" ကိုသုံးကြောင်း သေချာစေချင်ပါသည်။

That’s the best way to say it.

Now, let me remind you that “What’s up?” is a great way to say “Hello” or “How are you?”

mmm, so first of all, let's talk about the meaning of these words.

mmm ဒါကြောင့် ပထမဆုံးအနေနဲ့ ဒီစကားလုံးတွေရဲ့ အဓိပ္ပါယ်ကို ပြောကြည့်ရအောင်။

‘can’ means you are able to do something. Maybe because you have the skill or maybe

'can' ဆိုသည်မှာ သင် တစ်ခုခုကို လုပ်နိုင်သည်ဟု ဆိုလိုသည်။ မင်းမှာ အရည်အချင်းရှိလို့လား ဒါမှမဟုတ်

because your body allows you to do that thing. And ‘can't’ is the opposite, right.

a ‘t’ here. Changing ‘can’ to ‘can't’.

And in this video, we're going to talk about  how to describe the cost or price of something. 

ပြီးတော့ ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ တစ်စုံတစ်ခုရဲ့ ကုန်ကျစရိတ် ဒါမှမဟုတ် စျေးနှုန်းကို ဘယ်လိုဖော်ပြရမလဲဆိုတာ ပြောပြသွားမှာပါ။

Now, this is important to people  like me who like shopping, right. 

အခု ဒီဟာက ဈေးဝယ်ရတာကြိုက်တဲ့သူတွေအတွက် အရေးကြီးတယ်ဗျ။

So, for example, I like  shopping especially for dresses. 

ဥပမာအားဖြင့်၊ အထူးသဖြင့် ၀တ်စုံတွေအတွက် ဈေးဝယ်ရတာ ကြိုက်တယ်။

So I might say the cost of  this dress is affordable. 

ဒါကြောင့် ဒီဝတ်စုံရဲ့ ကုန်ကျစရိတ်က သက်သာတယ်လို့ ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။

Okay. This dress is affordable. 

ဟုတ်ပြီ ဒီဝတ်စုံက ဈေးသက်သာတယ်။

‘affordable’ means that this  dress is not too expensive. 

'တတ်နိုင်သည်' ဆိုသည်မှာ ဤဝတ်စုံသည် အလွန်စျေးမကြီးဟု ဆိုလိုသည်။

I have enough money and I can pay for this dress. I have enough money. 

ငါ့မှာ ပိုက်ဆံအလုံအလောက်ရှိပြီး ဒီဝတ်စုံအတွက် ငါပေးချေနိုင်တယ်။ ငါ့မှာ ပိုက်ဆံအလုံအလောက်ရှိတယ်။

I can buy this dress. So I would say this dress is affordable. 

ဒီဝတ်စုံကို ငါဝယ်လို့ရတယ်။ ဒါကြောင့် ဒီဝတ်စုံက ဈေးသက်သာတယ်လို့ ပြောချင်ပါတယ်။

I can also say this dress is inexpensive. We all know what expensive is but we say  

ဒီဝတ်စုံက ဈေးမကြီးဘူးလို့လည်း ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။ စျေးကြီးတယ်ဆိုတာ အားလုံးသိပေမယ့် ဈေးမကြီးဘူးလို့ ပြောတဲ့အတွက်

inexpensive so that's the opposite of expensive. 

အဲဒါက ဈေးကြီးတာနဲ့ ဆန့်ကျင်ဘက်ပါပဲ။

‘affordable’ and ‘inexpensive’  have very similar meanings. 

'တတ်နိုင်သည်' နှင့် 'စျေးမကြီး' ဟူသော အဓိပ္ပါယ်မှာ အလွန်ဆင်တူသည်။

Again, I have enough money to buy this. It's not too expensive. 

နောက်တစ်ခုက ဒါကိုဝယ်ဖို့ ငါ့မှာ ပိုက်ဆံအလုံအလောက်ရှိတယ်။ သိပ်စျေးမကြီးပါဘူး။

Then, we have ‘cheap’. This dress is cheap. 

ဒါဆို ငါတို့မှာ 'စျေးသက်သာတယ်' ရှိတယ်။ ဒီဝတ်စုံက ဈေးသက်သာတယ်။

Now, ‘cheap’ is similar, it means it's not  expensive, but it's a little bit more negative. 

ယခု၊ 'စျေးပေါ' သည် ဆင်တူသည်၊ ၎င်းသည် ဈေးမကြီးဟု ဆိုလိုသည်၊ သို့သော် အနည်းငယ်ပို၍ အနုတ်လက္ခဏာဖြစ်သည်။

If you say that something is cheap,  people may think that the quality  

တစ်ခုခု စျေးပေါတယ်လို့ ပြောရင် အရည်အသွေး

is not very good. It's not very nice. 

က သိပ်မကောင်းဘူးလို့ လူတွေက ထင်ကောင်းထင်နိုင်ပါတယ်။ သိပ်သဘောကောင်းတာမဟုတ်ဘူး။

Okay. Now, let's look at the opposite. 

ဟုတ်ပြီ ကဲ၊ ဆန့်ကျင်ဘက်ကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

The opposite of these words is ‘expensive’. This dress is expensive.

ဒီစကားလုံးတွေရဲ့ ဆန့်ကျင်ဘက်ကတော့ 'စျေးကြီး' ပါ။ ဒီဝတ်စုံက ဈေးကြီးတယ်။

It costs a lot of money, and too much money. Maybe, I don't want to buy it. 

ပိုက်ဆံအများကြီးကုန်ပြီး ပိုက်ဆံလည်းအရမ်းကုန်တယ်။ ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်၊ ငါမဝယ်ချင်ဘူး။

We can also say ‘overpriced’. This dress is overpriced. 

'ဈေးကြီးတယ်' လို့လည်း ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။ ဒီဝတ်စုံက ဈေးအရမ်းကြီးတယ်။

That means the price is too high. So, again, I don't want to buy this dress,  

ဆိုလိုတာက ဈေးက အရမ်းမြင့်တယ်။ ဒါကြောင့် ဒီဝတ်စုံကို ငါမဝယ်ချင်ဘူး၊

it's too expensive and overpriced. Okay. 

ဈေးအရမ်းကြီးပြီး ဈေးကြီးတယ်။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

Let's look at some more examples together. Let's look at some examples.

နောက်ထပ် ဥပမာအချို့ကို အတူတူကြည့်ရအောင်။ ဥပမာအချို့ကို ကြည့်ကြပါစို့။

The hat was affordable because it was on sale.

ဦးထုပ်​​လေး​တွေ​ရောင်း​နေပြီမို့ ​ဈေး​ပေါတယ်​။

Okay, so in this video, we learned that when  we want to describe the cost of something,

အိုကေ၊ ဒါကြောင့် ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ တစ်စုံတစ်ခုရဲ့ ကုန်ကျစရိတ်ကို ဖော်ပြချင်တဲ့အခါ၊

as not too expensive,

စျေးကြီးလွန်းတာကြောင့်

we say ‘affordable’.

affordable if it's not too expensive. If I can buy it with the money I have.

On the other hand, if something is not affordable,

if the cost is very high,

ကုန်ကျစရိတ်အလွန်များပါက၊

we say ‘expensive’ or ‘overpriced’.

ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် 'စျေးကြီး' သို့မဟုတ် 'စျေးနှုန်းလွန်သည်' ဟုဆိုသည်။

For me, I think some brands like  H&M and Forever 21 are affordable. 

ကျွန်တော့်အတွက်၊ H&M နှင့် Forever 21 ကဲ့သို့သော အမှတ်တံဆိပ်အချို့သည် တတ်နိုင်သည်ဟု ကျွန်တော်ထင်ပါတယ်။

Some people don't think this way. They think it's cheap. 

တချို့လူတွေက ဒီလိုမတွေးဘူး။ စျေးပေါတယ်လို့ ထင်ကြတယ်။

Sometimes, yes, some of the items can be cheap.

တစ်ခါတစ်ရံတွင်၊ အချို့သောပစ္စည်းများသည်စျေးပေါနိုင်သည်။

But for me, I like those brands  because they are affordable.

ဒါပေမယ့် ကျွန်တော့်အတွက်ကတော့ ဒီတံဆိပ်တွေကို တတ်နိုင်လို့ ကြိုက်ပါတယ်။

Another store that I like in Korea,

ကိုရီးယားမှာကြိုက်တဲ့ နောက်ထပ်ဆိုင်တစ်ခုကတော့

it's called Zara or Jara in Korea as they say.

ကိုရီးယားမှာ Zara ဒါမှမဟုတ် Jara လို့ခေါ်ပါတယ်။

They have some items that are affordable  and some items that are very expensive.

သူတို့မှာ စျေးသက်သာတဲ့ ပစ္စည်းအချို့နဲ့ စျေးအရမ်းကြီးတဲ့ ပစ္စည်းအချို့ရှိပါတယ်။

Too expensive for me to buy.

ဝယ်ရတာ အရမ်းဈေးကြီးတယ်။

Well, when do we use this word?

Well, let me give you an example.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ဥပမာတစ်ခုပေးပါရစေ။

Let's say that you're taking a test

စာမေးပွဲဖြေပြီး

and you look in your bag

လွယ်အိတ်ထဲကို ကြည့်လိုက်တော့

and uh-oh you forgot your pencil.

ခဲတံမေ့သွားတယ်ဆိုပါစို့။

So what do you do?

ဒါဆို မင်းဘာလုပ်မလဲ။

You have to ask someone next  to you, or maybe a friend

မင်းရဲ့ ခဲတံကို မင်းဘေးနားက တစ်ယောက်ယောက်ကို ခိုင်းရမယ် ဒါမှမဟုတ်

to let them use your pencil.

မင်းရဲ့ ခဲတံကို သုံးခွင့်ပေးလိုက်ပါ။

And a mistake that a lot  of people make is they say,

But that's actually wrong.

ဒါပေမယ့် ဒါဟာ တကယ်တော့ မှားပါတယ်။

Don't say that.

မပြောနဲ့။

Don't say,

“မင်းငါ့ကို မင်းရဲ့ခဲတံ ငှားလို့ရလား” လို့

“Can you borrow me your pencil?”

မပြောပါနဲ့။

The actual way to say it

အမှန်ပြောနည်းကတော့

goes like this.

ဒီလိုပါပဲ။

Let's look at an example sentence.

ဥပမာဝါကျကိုကြည့်ရအောင်။

“Can I borrow your pencil?”

"မင်းရဲ့ခဲတံကို ငါငှားလို့ရမလား"

That's the correct way to say it.

ဒါ မှန်ကန်တဲ့ နည်းလမ်းလို့ ပြောတာ။

“Can I borrow your pencil?

"မင်းရဲ့ခဲတံကို ငါငှားလို့ရမလား

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

Another way that you can say is,

သင်ပြောနိုင်သော နောက်တစ်နည်းမှာ

“Can you lend me your pencil?”

"မင်းရဲ့ခဲတံကို ငှားလို့ရလား"

Let's look at it again.

အဲဒါကို ပြန်ကြည့်ရအောင်။

“Can you lend me your pencil?”

"မင်းငါ့ကို မင်းရဲ့ခဲတံ ငှားလို့ရလား"

Now, both of these ways are okay.

အခု ဒီနည်းလမ်းနှစ်ခုလုံး အဆင်ပြေပါတယ်။

And they're both correct and right,

ပြီးတော့ သူတို့နှစ်ယောက်လုံးက မှန်တယ်မှန်တယ်၊

but I think this one is a better way to say it.

ဒါပေမယ့် ဒါကပြောဖို့ ပိုကောင်းတဲ့နည်းလမ်းလို့ ထင်ပါတယ်။

Again, let's remember it's not,

'ငါ့ကို ချေးပေးနိုင်မလား'

‘Can you borrow me’, okay, don't say that.

မဟုတ်ဘူးဆိုတာ သတိရရအောင် ၊ ဟုတ်ပြီ၊ မပြောနဲ့။

Say this,

"မင်းရဲ့ခဲတံကို ငါ ချေး

“Can I borrow your pencil?”

လို့ရမလား"

Let's look at a couple more examples sentences.

Alright, now, in the beginning  of the video, I taught you

to say, “Can I borrow… something”

"ငါ... တစ်ခုခု ချေးလို့ရမလား"

“Can I borrow your pencil?”

"မင်းရဲ့ခဲတံကို ငှားလို့ရမလား" လို့ပြောတတ်အောင် သင်ပေးခဲ့တယ်။

But, actually,

ဒါပေမယ့် တကယ်တမ်းပြောရရင်

there's a more polite way to say this.

ဒီထက်ပိုပြီး ယဉ်ကျေးတဲ့နည်းလမ်း ရှိပါသေးတယ်။

And that is by saying,

အဲဒါကတော့

“May I borrow something from you?”

“မင်းဆီက တစ်ခုခု ချေးလို့ရမလား” လို့ ပြောလိုက်တာပါ။

You should use ‘May I’ when you're talking  to someone you don't know very well.

သင်သိပ်မသိတဲ့သူတစ်ယောက်နဲ့ စကားပြောတဲ့အခါ 'မေမေ' ကို သုံးသင့်ပါတယ်။

Maybe it's a complete stranger,

သူစိမ်းဖြစ်ရင်

or maybe you know that person,

ဒါမှမဟုတ် အဲဒီလူကို သင်သိကောင်းသိနိုင်

but you guys aren't really close friends.

ပေမယ့် မင်းက တကယ့်ရင်းနှီးတဲ့သူငယ်ချင်းတွေ မဟုတ်ဘူး။

It's better to use ‘May I’.

'မေမေ' ကိုသုံးတာ ပိုကောင်းပါတယ်။

So again, “May I borrow something?”

ဒါနဲ့ "ငါ တစ်ခုခု ချေးလို့ရမလား"

For example,

ဥပမာ-

“May I borrow your pen?”

"မင်းရဲ့ဘောပင်ကို ငှားလို့ရမလား"

Or “May I borrow your phone?”

ဒါမှမဟုတ် "မင်းရဲ့ဖုန်းကို ငှားလို့ရမလား"

Or maybe like I said in the  example in the beginning,

ဒါမှမဟုတ် အစတုန်းက ဥပမာမှာ ကျွန်တော်ပြောခဲ့သလိုပဲ

“May I borrow your pencil or eraser?”

"မင်းရဲ့ခဲတံ ဒါမှမဟုတ် ခဲဖျက်ကို ငှားလို့ရမလား"

အရေးကြီးတဲ့အသုံးအနှုန်းတစ်ခုအကြောင်း ပြောသွားမှာပါ

For those of you who have  a boyfriend or girlfriend. 

။ ရည်းစားရှိလား ရည်းစားရှိသူတွေအတွက်။

And that expression is ‘to dump someone’. ‘to dump someone’ 

ပြီးတော့ အဲဒီအသုံးအနှုန်းက 'တစ်ယောက်ယောက်ကို စွန့်ပစ်ဖို့' ပါ။ 'တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်ကို စွန့်ပစ်ခြင်း'

Well, what do you think that means? Well, for those of you who are in a relationship,  

အင်း၊ အဲဒါ ဘာကို ဆိုလိုတယ်လို့ ထင်လဲ။ ကောင်းပြီ၊ သင်နဲ့ပေါင်းသင်းဆက်ဆံနေတဲ့သူတွေအတွက်၊

maybe, you're not happy. Hmm 

သင်မပျော်ဘူး။ ဟမ်

Maybe you don't love that person anymore, or maybe  that person is just really horrible, really bad. 

အဲဒီလူကို မချစ်တော့တာ ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်၊ ဒါမှမဟုတ် အဲဒီလူက တကယ်ကို ကြောက်စရာကောင်းတယ်၊ တကယ်ဆိုးတာ ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်။

So, what do you do? Well, you break up with them. 

ဒါဆို မင်းဘာလုပ်မလဲ။ ကောင်းပြီ၊ မင်းသူတို့နဲ့ လမ်းခွဲလိုက်ပါ။

Right, you say, “I don't  want to be with you anymore.” 

ဟုတ်တယ်၊ မင်းပြောသလို "ငါ မင်းနဲ့ မနေချင်တော့ဘူး"

And that's where the expression  comes in ‘to dump someone’. 

အဲဒါက 'to dump someone' ဆိုတဲ့ အသုံးအနှုန်းနဲ့ ရောက်လာတယ်။

So, when you tell your boyfriend or girlfriend, “I don't want to be with you anymore,” you  

ဒါကြောင့် သင့်ချစ်သူ ဒါမှမဟုတ် ကောင်မလေးကို “ငါ မင်းနဲ့ မနေချင်တော့ဘူး” လို့ ပြောတဲ့အခါ

are dumping them. Okay, so let's look at these examples first. 

သူတို့ကို စွန့်ပစ်လိုက်ပါ။ ကောင်းပြီ ဒါဆို ဒီဥပမာတွေကို အရင်ကြည့်ရအောင်။

He dumped me. Hmm, he dumped me. 

သူငါ့ကိုပစ်တယ်။ ဟမ်၊ သူက ငါ့ကို စွန့်ပစ်တယ်။

This is a sad situation, right? Maybe my boyfriend didn't love me anymore,  

ဒါက စိတ်မကောင်းစရာ အခြေအနေပဲ မဟုတ်လား။ ငါ့ရည်းစားက ငါ့ကို မချစ်တော့တာ ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်၊

or maybe I did something that made him angry. So he dumped me. 

ဒါမှမဟုတ် ငါ သူ့ကို စိတ်ဆိုးအောင်လုပ်ခဲ့တာ ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်။ ဒါနဲ့ သူက ကျွန်တော့်ကို စွန့်ပစ်တယ်။

He doesn't want to be with me any longer.

သူ ငါနဲ့ မနေချင်တော့ဘူး။

Hmm, ‘I dumped him’.

ဟမ်၊ 'ငါ သူ့ကို စွန့်ပစ်လိုက်တာ'

The next sentence, ‘I dumped him’. This one is not so bad. 

နောက်စာကြောင်းကတော့ 'ငါ သူ့ကို ပစ်ခဲ့တယ်'။ ဒါက သိပ်မဆိုးပါဘူး။

Maybe my boyfriend was really  bad, or he lied too much. 

ငါ့ရည်းစားက တကယ်ဆိုးတာဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်၊ ဒါမှမဟုတ် လိမ်လွန်းတယ်။

So I kicked him. I got rid of him. 

ဒါနဲ့ သူ့ကို ကန်လိုက်တယ်။ ငါ သူ့ကို ဖယ်ပစ်လိုက်တယ်။

I dumped him. Okay. 

ငါသူ့ကို စွန့်ပစ်လိုက်တယ်။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

So, let's look at some more  example sentences together. 

ဒီတော့ နောက်ထပ် ဥပမာဝါကျအချို့ကို အတူတူ လေ့လာကြည့်ရအောင်။

‘She dumped him because he lied to her.’ 

'သူမကို လိမ်လည်တဲ့အတွက် စွန့်ပစ်လိုက်တာ။'

‘She dumped him because he lied to her.’

'သူမကို လိမ်လည်တဲ့အတွက် စွန့်ပစ်လိုက်တာ။'

‘He dumped me I'm so sad.’ 

'သူငါ့ကို စွန့်ပစ်လိုက်တာ အရမ်းဝမ်းနည်းတယ်။'

‘He dumped me I'm so sad.’ 

'သူငါ့ကို စွန့်ပစ်လိုက်တာ အရမ်းဝမ်းနည်းတယ်။'

Okay, so in this video we learned  the expression ‘to dump someone’. 

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ထို့ကြောင့် ဤဗီဒီယိုတွင် 'တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်အား စွန့်ပစ်ရန်' ဟူသောအသုံးအနှုန်းကို လေ့လာခဲ့သည်။

Remember, you can dump a bad boyfriend or  girlfriend, but they can also dump you.

Now, I want to tell you about  one of my ex-boyfriends.

He never had time for me. He was always busy. 

သူ့မှာ ငါ့အတွက် အချိန်မရှိခဲ့ဘူး။ သူအမြဲအလုပ်ရှုပ်နေခဲ့တယ်။

And he couldn't talk or hang out. So, I had to dump him and it felt great.

I'm Esther and in this video we are going to talk about an important idiom 'hit on'.

ကျွန်တော်က Esther ဖြစ်ပြီး ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ အရေးကြီးတဲ့ idiom ဖြစ်တဲ့ ' hit on ' အကြောင်း ပြောပြပါမယ်။

Now, hit on doesn't mean to hit.

အခု hit on က ရိုက်ဖို့ မဆိုလိုပါဘူး။

Right?

ဟုတ်တယ်ဟုတ်?

Hit means you punch someone or you use your hand to hurt someone.

Hit ဆိုသည်မှာ တစ်စုံတစ်ဦးကို လက်ဖြင့်ထိုးခြင်း သို့မဟုတ် တစ်စုံတစ်ဦးကို ထိခိုက်နာကျင်စေရန် သင့်လက်ကို အသုံးပြုခြင်းဖြစ်သည်။

So, that's not what it means.

ဒီတော့ အဲဒါက ဘာကို ဆိုလိုတာလဲ။

'hit on' means well when a guy maybe likes a girl

' hit on ' ဆိုသည်မှာ ယောက်ျားလေးတစ်ယောက်သည်

he sees someone and he thinks that girl is cute.

တစ်စုံတစ်ဦးကို မြင်သော မိန်းကလေးကို ချစ်ဖို့ကောင်းသည်ဟု ထင်သော မိန်းကလေးကို ယောက်ျားလေးများက သဘောကျနေသည့်အခါတွင် အဓိပ္ပါယ်ရှိသည်။

He wants to know her better.

သူမကို ပိုသိစေချင်သည်။

He wants to know her more.

သူမကို ပိုသိချင်သည်။

So, he might go to her and  ask for her phone number.

ဒါကြောင့် သူ့ဆီသွားပြီး ဖုန်းနံပါတ်တောင်းတယ်။

Try to talk to her.

သူမကို စကားပြောဖို့ ကြိုးစားပါ။

That's hitting on.

အဲဒါကို ထိတယ်။

That's hit on.

အဲဒါကို ထိတယ်။

Right?

ဟုတ်တယ်ဟုတ်?

He's hitting on her.

သူက သူမကို ထိတယ်။

Okay?

အဆင်ပြေလား?

So ah... yes a girl can hit on a guy as well.

အင်း... ဟုတ်တယ် မိန်းကလေးက ယောက်ျားလေး တစ်ယောက်ကို ရိုက်နိုင်တယ်။

Um… usually but it's usually  the guy that hits on the girl.

အင်း… များသောအားဖြင့်တော့ မိန်းကလေးကို စွဲလမ်းတဲ့ ယောက်ျားလေး တွေ များတယ်။

So, let's look at these examples.

ဒီတော့ ဒီဥပမာတွေကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

He hit on her.

သူက သူမကို ရိုက်သည်။

He hit on her.

သူက သူမကို ရိုက်သည်။

Again this means, he went to the girl and try to talk to her and know her better.

တစ်ဖန် ဆိုလိုသည်မှာ၊ သူသည် ကောင်မလေးထံသို့သွားပြီး သူမနှင့် စကားပြောရန် ကြိုးစားကာ သူမကို ပိုသိလာခဲ့သည်။

So, maybe they can be a couple later or have a relationship.

ထို့ကြောင့် ၎င်းတို့သည် နောက်ပိုင်းတွင် စုံတွဲဖြစ်နိုင်သည် သို့မဟုတ် ဆက်ဆံရေးတစ်ခုလည်း ဖြစ်နိုင်သည်။

Again, he hit on her.

တဖန်သူမကိုရိုက်လေ၏။

The next sentence says she got hit on.

နောက်စကားတစ်ခွန်းက သူမကို ထိမှန်တယ်လို့ဆိုတယ်။

She got hit on.

သူမအရိုက်ခံရတယ်။

This is not the same as this sentence.

ဤစာကြောင်းနှင့် မတူပါ။

Right?

ဟုတ်တယ်ဟုတ်?

She didn't hit on someone.

သူမသည်တစ်စုံတစ်ဦးကိုမထိခဲ့ပေ။

She got hit on which means that somebody hit on her.

သူမကို တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်က ထိမှန်သွားသည်ဟု ဆိုလိုသည်။

So, don't get that confused.

ဒါကြောင့် စိတ်ရှုပ်မခံပါနဲ့။

That's a good some more  example sentences together.

အဲဒါက ကောင်းတဲ့ ဥပမာ စာကြောင်းတချို့ကို တွဲပြတာပါ။

Okay?

Let's look at these examples.

Many guys hit on me.

ယောက်ျားတွေ အများကြီး ငါ့ကို ရိုက်တယ်။

I saw a man hit on a pretty girl.

ချောမောလှပတဲ့ မိန်းကလေးတစ်ယောက်ကို ယောက်ျားတစ်ယောက်က ရိုက်နှက်တာတွေ့တယ်။

I saw a man hit on a pretty girl.

ချောမောလှပတဲ့ မိန်းကလေးတစ်ယောက်ကို ယောက်ျားတစ်ယောက်က ရိုက်နှက်တာတွေ့တယ်။

He's a womanizer.

သူက မိန်းမဆန်တယ်။

Let's review one more time.

We learned the idiom hit on.

အပေါ်မှာ ရိုက်ထားတဲ့ idiom ကို သင်ယူခဲ့ကြတယ်။

Again, hit on means you like someone that you don't know.

တဖန် hit on ဆိုသည်မှာ သင်မသိသောလူကို သဘောကျသည်။

You go and talk to them.

မင်းသွားပြီးတော့ သူတို့နဲ့စကားပြောတယ်။

Again maybe try to get to know them better or their phone number or something like that.

တစ်ဖန် ၎င်းတို့ကို ပိုကောင်းအောင် သို့မဟုတ် ၎င်းတို့၏ ဖုန်းနံပါတ် သို့မဟုတ် ထိုကဲ့သို့သော တစ်ခုခုကို သိရန် ကြိုးစားပေမည်။

Now, in America um... yeah  guys hit on girls of course.

အခု အမေရိကားမှာ ယောက်ျားလေးတွေက မိန်းကလေးတွေ ဖြစ်နေတာ ဟုတ်ပါတယ်။

But I think in Korea, a lot more Korean guys tend to hit on girls in public places like

ဒါပေမယ့် ကိုရီးယားမှာ ယောက်ျားလေးတွေက ဘတ်စ်ကားမှတ်တိုင် ဒါမှမဟုတ် လမ်းပေါ် ဒါမှမဟုတ် မြေအောက်ရထားတွေ

the bus stop or on the street or maybe even a on the subway.

လို အများသူငှာနေရာတွေမှာ မိန်းကလေးတွေကို ပိုရိုက်လေ့ရှိတယ်လို့ ကျွန်မထင်ပါတယ် ။

And that word is ‘pissed’ or ‘pissed off’.

ပြီးတော့ အဲဒီစကားလုံးက 'စိတ်ဆိုးတယ်' ဒါမှမဟုတ် 'စိတ်ဆိုးတယ်' တဲ့။

Now, before I start, I want to tell you that ‘pissed’ can actually have several meanings.

အခု မစခင်မှာ 'စိတ်ဆိုးခြင်း' ဟာ အဓိပ္ပါယ်များစွာရှိနိုင်တယ်ဆိုတာကို ပြောပြချင်ပါတယ်။

But today, we're going to focus on one meaning.

ဒါပေမယ့် ဒီနေ့မှာတော့ အဓိပ္ပါယ်တစ်ခုကိုပဲ အာရုံစိုက်သွားပါမယ်။

And the meaning that I want  to focus on is ‘angry’.

ပြီးတော့ ကျွန်တော်အာရုံစိုက်ချင်တဲ့ အဓိပ္ပာယ်က 'ဒေါသ' ပါ။

Okay, so ‘pissed’ or ‘pissed off’ can mean very angry or maybe upset or annoyed.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ထို့ကြောင့် 'စိတ်ဆိုးသည်' သို့မဟုတ် 'စိတ်ဆိုးသည်' သည် အလွန်ဒေါသထွက်ခြင်း သို့မဟုတ် စိတ်ဆိုးခြင်း သို့မဟုတ် စိတ်ဆိုးခြင်းဟု အဓိပ္ပာယ်ရနိုင်သည်။

Okay, so before I explain a little bit more, let's look at these example sentences.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ နည်းနည်းထပ်မရှင်းပြခင် ဒီဥပမာဝါကျတွေကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

The first one is, “I'm pissed.”

ပထမတစ်ခုက "ငါစိတ်ဆိုးတယ်။"

This just means “I'm angry” “I'm upset”

ဒါက “စိတ်ဆိုးတယ်” “စိတ်ဆိုးတယ်” လို့ အဓိပ္ပာယ်ရပြီး

So again, “I'm pissed.”

“စိတ်ဆိုးနေတယ်” လို့ အဓိပ္ပာယ်ရပါတယ်။

The next sentence is very similar.

နောက်စာကြောင်းကတော့ အလွန်ဆင်တူပါတယ်။

“I'm pissed off.” “I'm pissed off.”

“ကျွန်တော် စိတ်ဆိုးတယ်။” “ကျွန်တော် စိတ်ဆိုးတယ်။”

Again, these two sentences have the same meaning.

တစ်ဖန် ဤဝါကျနှစ်ခုသည် အဓိပ္ပါယ်တူသည်။

They both mean ‘I'm very angry about something’

သူတို့နှစ်ယောက်စလုံးက 'တစ်ခုခုကြောင့် ငါအရမ်းဒေါသထွက်နေတယ်'

or ‘I'm very angry at somebody’.

ဒါမှမဟုတ် 'တစ်ယောက်ယောက်ကို အရမ်းစိတ်ဆိုးနေတယ်' လို့ အဓိပ္ပာယ်ရပါတယ်။

Please also notice that we have  to say 'pissed' in the past tense.

အတိတ်ကာလတွင် 'စိတ်ဆိုး' သည်ဟုလည်း သတိပြုပါ။

We have to say it with -ed.

အဲဒါကို -ed နဲ့ ပြောရမယ်။

If you say "I'm piss" without the -ed,

-ed မပါဘဲ "I'm piss" ဟု ပြောပါက၊

it actually has a different meaning.

၎င်းသည် အမှန်တကယ် ကွဲပြားခြားနားသော အဓိပ္ပါယ်ရှိပါသည်။

So again, you must say “I'm pissed”

ထို့ကြောင့် သင်သည် စိတ်ဆိုးကြောင်းပြသရန် "ငါစိတ်ဆိုးနေတယ်"

or “I'm pissed off” to show that you're angry.

သို့မဟုတ် "စိတ်ဆိုးနေတယ်" ဟု ထပ်မံပြောရပါမည်။

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

Here's the last sentence.

ဒါကတော့ နောက်ဆုံးစာကြောင်းပါ။

“I get pissed off when he lies to me.”

"သူငါ့ကိုလိမ်​​ပြောရင်​ ငါစိတ်​ညစ်​တယ်​"

That means I get angry when he lies to me.

ဆိုလိုတာက သူငါ့ကိုလိမ်ပြောရင် ငါဒေါသထွက်မယ်။

Again, “I get pissed off when he lies to me.”

တစ်ဖန် "သူငါ့ကိုလိမ်ညာတဲ့အခါ ငါစိတ်ဆိုးတယ်။"

Let's make sure we also notice  the pronunciation “pissed off”.

“pissed off” အသံထွက်ကိုလည်း သတိပြုမိပါစေ။

And let's look at the example  sentence one more time.

And for all the women out there,  you understand what I mean, right?

When someone you care about or someone you love  lies to you, you get angry or pissed off, right?

သင်ဂရုစိုက်တဲ့သူတစ်ယောက် ဒါမှမဟုတ် သင်ချစ်ရတဲ့သူတစ်ယောက်က သင့်အပေါ် လိမ်ညာနေတဲ့အခါ သင်ဒေါသထွက်တာ ဒါမှမဟုတ် ဒေါသထွက်နေသလား၊

So let's look at a few more  example sentences together.

“I was pissed off when the  other car cut in front of me.”

"အခြားကားက ငါ့ရှေ့ကဖြတ်လာတဲ့အခါ ငါစိတ်ဆိုးသွားတယ်။"

“Don't get pissed off. It was a mistake.”

“စိတ်မဆိုးပါနဲ့။ ဒါဟာ အမှားတစ်ခုပါ။”

“Don't get pissed off. It was a mistake.”

“စိတ်မဆိုးပါနဲ့။ ဒါဟာ အမှားတစ်ခုပါ။”

“I'm pissed off that he didn't pay me back yet.” “I'm pissed off that he didn't pay me back yet.”

Okay, so we looked at a couple example sentences,

and we learned the word ‘pissed’ or ‘pissed off’

so just remember it's a very common  slang if you use it in America

everybody will know that that  means you're angry or upset.

But remember, you should probably  only use this with your friends

ဒါပေမယ့် မှတ်သားထားရမှာက ဒါကို မင်းသူငယ်ချင်းတွေနဲ့ပဲ သုံးသင့်တယ်

because if you say this to  somebody that you don't know well,

ဘာလို့လဲဆိုတော့ မင်းကောင်းကောင်းမသိတဲ့သူကို ဒီလိုပြောရင်

it can seem a little bit rude.

နည်းနည်းရိုင်းတယ်ထင်ရလိမ့်မယ်။

Okay, so please remember that when you're angry try saying ‘pissed’ or ‘pissed off’.

And in this video, I want to talk  with you about the word ‘lag’. 

ပြီးတော့ ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ 'lag' ဆိုတဲ့ စကားလုံးအကြောင်း မင်းကို ငါပြောချင်တယ်။

Now ‘lag’ means to do something very slowly, or to be very slow, okay. 

ယခု 'lag' ဆိုသည်မှာ တစ်ခုခုကို နှေးကွေးစွာ လုပ်ရန် သို့မဟုတ် အလွန်နှေးကွေးခြင်းဟု ဆိုလိုသည်။

So the word ‘lag’ is up here on the board. Now, the pronunciation - it's hard I know 

ဒီတော့ 'lag' ဆိုတဲ့ စကားလုံးက ဘုတ်ပေါ်မှာ ပေါ်လာတယ်။ အခုတော့ အသံထွက်- ငါသိဖို့ ခက်

but you have to try and practice ‘lag’

‘lag’ Okay. 

ကို ကြိုးစားပြီး လေ့ကျင့်ရမယ်

So let's look at these examples.

။ ဒီတော့ ဒီဥပမာတွေကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

“She's lagging .”

“သူမ နောက်ကျနေတယ်။”

“She's lagging.”

“သူမ နောက်ကျနေတယ်။”

This means she's taking a  long time to do something.

ဆိုလိုသည်မှာ သူမသည် တစ်ခုခုလုပ်ရန် အချိန်အတော်ကြာနေပါသည်။

She's doing something very slowly.

သူမ တစ်ခုခုကို ဖြည်းဖြည်းချင်း လုပ်နေတယ်။

“She's lagging.”

“သူမ နောက်ကျနေတယ်။”

The next one is, “Stop lagging.”

နောက်တစ်ခုကတော့ "နောက်ကျနေတာရပ်လိုက်ပါ။"

“Stop lagging.”

“နောက်ကျတာကို ရပ်လိုက်ပါ။”

You're telling somebody hurry up. 

မင်းတစ်ယောက်ယောက်ကို မြန်မြန်ပြောနေတာလား။

Stop being slow. Okay. 

နှေးတာကို ရပ်လိုက်ပါ။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

The next one is a very common problem. “My computer is lagging.”

နောက်တစ်ခုက အရမ်းအဖြစ်များတဲ့ ပြဿနာပါ။ "ငါ့ကွန်ပြူတာ နောက်ကျနေတယ်"

“My computer is lagging.”

"ငါ့ကွန်ပြူတာ နောက်ကျနေတယ်"

That means my computer is slow.

ဆိုလိုသည်မှာ ကျွန်ုပ်၏ကွန်ပျူတာသည် နှေးကွေးနေပါသည်။

It's slow. I'm trying to do something  

နှေးတယ်။ တစ်ခုခုလုပ်ဖို့ကြိုးစားနေ

but it's lagging. It's slow.

ပေမယ့် နောက်ကျနေတယ်။ နှေးတယ်။

And the last one is,

နောက်ဆုံးတစ်ခုကတော့

“I have jet lag.”

“I have jet lag.”

"ငါ့မှာ ဂျက်လေကျရောဂါရှိတယ်"

"ငါ့မှာ ဂျက်လေကျဲနေတယ်"

You might hear this a lot especially  from people who are travelling.

အထူးသဖြင့် ခရီးသွားနေသူများထံမှ ဤအချက်ကို သင်များစွာကြားနိုင်သည်။

So if you travel around the world,  maybe too a far away country

ဒါကြောင့် ကမ္ဘာပတ်ပြီး ခရီးသွားရင်

that you're going to be changing time zones,

အချိန်ဇုန်တွေ ပြောင်းရတော့မယ့် ဝေးကွာလွန်းတဲ့ နိုင်ငံဖြစ်တာ

so the time will be different,

ကြောင့် အချိန်တွေ မတူတော့

and you'll feel very tired,

အရမ်းပင်ပန်းမယ်၊

your body will feel slow and tired,

ခန္ဓာကိုယ်က နှေးကွေးပြီး ပင်ပန်းမယ်

and your body is taking a long time  to adjust to the new time zone,

၊ ခန္ဓာကိုယ်သည် အချိန်ဇုန်အသစ်သို့ ချိန်ညှိရန် အချိန်အတော်ကြာနေချိန်၊

your body is slow to adjust,

သင့်ခန္ဓာကိုယ်သည် ချိန်ညှိရန် နှေးကွေးနေသ

so you have to say, “I have jet lag.”

ဖြင့် "ကျွန်ုပ်တွင် ဂျက်စတီဂရိတ် ရှိသည်" ဟု ပြောရမည်ဖြစ်သည်။

Okay. Let's look at some more examples together. 

ဟုတ်ပြီ နောက်ထပ် ဥပမာအချို့ကို အတူတူကြည့်ရအောင်။

Okay. Let's look at a few examples.

ဟုတ်ပြီ ဥပမာအနည်းငယ်ကို ကြည့်ကြပါစို့။

The first one. 

ပထမတစ်ခု။

“She's always late because she lags.” “She's always late because she lags.” 

"နောက်ကျနေလို့ အမြဲနောက်ကျတယ်" "နောက်ကျနေလို့ အမြဲနောက်ကျတယ်"

The next one. “I wish you wouldn't lag so much.” 

နောက်တစ်ခု။ "မင်း အရမ်းနောက်ကျမနေစေချင်ဘူး"

“I wish you wouldn't lag so much.”

"မင်း အရမ်းနောက်ကျမနေစေချင်ဘူး"

Next.

“I can't open the program  because my computer is lagging.”

"ကျွန်ုပ်၏ကွန်ပြူတာနောက်ကျနေသောကြောင့် ပရိုဂရမ်ကိုဖွင့်၍မရပါ။"

“My jet lag is terrible. I keep falling asleep.”

"ငါ့ရဲ့ ဂျက်လော့ခ်က ကြောက်စရာကောင်းတယ်။ ငါဆက်အိပ်နေတယ်။"

So in this video we learned  that we use the word ‘lag’  

ထို့ကြောင့် အလွန်နှေးကွေးသော လုပ်ဆောင်ချက်ကို ဖော်ပြရန်အတွက်

to describe an action that is very very slow. Now, my best friend is someone who lags a lot.

'lag' ဟူသော စကားလုံးကို အသုံးပြုကြောင်း ဤဗီဒီယိုတွင် လေ့လာသိရှိရပါသည် ။ အခု ငါ့ရဲ့ အချစ်ဆုံးသူငယ်ချင်းက အရမ်းနောက်ကျနေသူတစ်ယောက်ပါ။

Whenever we want to do  something especially at night,

အထူးသဖြင့် ညဘက် တစ်ခုခုလုပ်ချင်တိုင်း

she takes almost two hours to get ready.

ပြင်ဆင်ဖို့ နှစ်နာရီနီးပါး အချိန်ယူရတယ်။

She has to wash her hair or take  a shower then put on her makeup,

ဆံပင်လျှော်ရမယ် ဒါမှမဟုတ် ရေချိုးပြီးရင် မိတ်ကပ်လိမ်းပြီး

you know decide what to wear.

ဘာဝတ်ရမယ်ဆိုတာ သိပါတယ်။

And that can take a very long time.

ပြီးတော့ အဲဒါက တော်တော်ကြာနိုင်တယ်။

So I always have to say to her “Stop lagging!

ဒါကြောင့် ကျွန်တော်အမြဲတမ်းပြောရမှာက သူမကို “နောက်နေတာ ရပ်လိုက်ပါ။

Hurry up! We're late! Stop lagging!” Okay. 

မြန်မြန်လုပ်ပါ! ငါတို့နောက်ကျပြီ! နောက်ကျတာကို ရပ်လိုက်ပါ!” ဟုတ်ပြီ

So next time, if you have a friend or  somebody that's taking a very long time, 

ဒါကြောင့် နောက်တစ်ခါ သင့်မှာ အချိန်အကြာကြီးကြာနေတဲ့ သူငယ်ချင်း ဒါမှမဟုတ် တစ်ယောက်ယောက်ရှိရင်

you can use the word ‘lag’ to say  ‘stop lagging’ ‘hurry up’ okay. 

'lag' ဆိုတဲ့ စကားလုံးကို 'stop lagging' 'မြန်မြန်လုပ်ပါ' လို့ ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။

ပြီးတော့ ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ 'လမ်းသွားလမ်းလာ' ဆိုတဲ့ စကားလုံးအကြောင်း ပြောပြမယ်။

A pedestrian is somebody who is walking.

လမ်းသွားလမ်းလာဆိုသည်မှာ လမ်းလျှောက်နေသူဖြစ်သည်။

They might be walking on the street.

လမ်းပေါ်မှာ လမ်းလျှောက်နေကြတာ ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်။

Or on the sidewalk where all  the stores and restaurants are. 

ဒါမှမဟုတ် စတိုးဆိုင်တွေနဲ့ စားသောက်ဆိုင်တွေရှိတဲ့ လမ်းဘေးမှာ။

The sidewalk or pedestrians might be  crossing the street on a crosswalk. 

လမ်းသွားလမ်းလာ သို့မဟုတ် လမ်းသွားလမ်းလာများသည် လူကူးမျဉ်းကျားပေါ်တွင် လမ်းဖြတ်ကူးနေနိုင်သည်။

That's the section with the  white lines where you have to go  

ဟိုဘက်ကမ်းကို သွားချင်ရင် သွားရမှာ

if you want to go to the other side. So let's look at these example sentences.

က အဖြူလိုင်းတွေပါတဲ့ အပိုင်းပါ ။ ဒီတော့ ဒီဥပမာဝါကျတွေကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

“Don't hit the pedestrian.”

"လူသွားလမ်းလာကို မထိနဲ့။"

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

So in Korea there are very many cars and drivers

ဒါကြောင့် ကိုရီးယားမှာ ကားနဲ့ ယာဉ်မောင်းတွေ အရမ်းများပြီး

and they have to be careful not to  hit the people that are walking.

လမ်းလျှောက်နေတဲ့သူတွေကို မထိမိအောင် သတိထားရပါမယ်။

The pedestrians.

လမ်းသွားလမ်းလာ။

So "Don't hit the pedestrian."

ဒါကြောင့် "လမ်းသွားလမ်းလာကို မထိနဲ့။"

The pedestrian crosses the crosswalk.

လူကူးလူကူးမျဉ်းကျား။

Again, the crosswalk is where the white lines are.

တစ်ဖန် လူကူးမျဉ်းကြားသည် အဖြူရောင်မျဉ်းများဖြစ်သည်။

You have to walk there if you  want to go to the other side.

ဟိုဘက်ကမ်းကို သွားချင်ရင် အဲဒီကို လမ်းလျှောက်ရမယ်။

The pedestrian crosses the crosswalk.

လူကူးလူကူးမျဉ်းကျား။

The last example is,

နောက်ဆုံး ဥပမာကတော့

"There are many pedestrians on the sidewalk."

"လမ်းဘေးမှာ လမ်းသွားလမ်းလာတွေ အများကြီးရှိတယ်။"

Remember, ‘sidewalk’ is the area next to  the street where pedestrians should walk.

'စင်္ကြန်' သည် လမ်းသွားလမ်းလာများ သွားလာရမည့် လမ်းဘေးရှိ နေရာဖြစ်သည်ကို သတိရပါ။

It's safer, right?

ပိုလုံခြုံတယ် မဟုတ်လား။

So "There are many pedestrians on the sidewalk."

ဒီတော့ လမ်းဘေးမှာ လမ်းသွားလမ်းလာတွေ အများကြီးပဲ။

Okay. And so that's how we use ‘pedestrian’.

ဟုတ်ပြီ ဒါကြောင့် 'ခြေကျင်လျှောက်နည်း' ကို သုံးပါတယ်။

Remember, it means somebody who's walking.

ပြီးတော့ ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ မင်းကို အရမ်းအရေးကြီးတဲ့ အင်္ဂလိပ်စကားလုံးတစ်လုံးကို သင်ပေးမယ်။

Now, everybody in Korea should know this word because it gets this way every summer in Korea,

အခု ကိုရီးယားမှာ နွေရာသီတိုင်းလိုလို ဒီစကားလုံးကို သိထားသင့်တယ်နော်

right?

Well not just in the summer, but also in some other seasons.

နွေရာသီတွင်သာမက အခြားသောရာသီများတွင်လည်း ကောင်း၊

And that word that we're going  to learn today is ‘humid’.

ဒီနေ့ သင်ယူရမယ့် စကားလုံးက 'စိုထိုင်းဆ' ပါ။

Again, ‘humid’.

တဖန် 'စိုစွတ်သော'။

So this word, you need to know it,

ဒါကြောင့် ဒီစကားလုံးကို သိထားဖို့ လို ပြီး အထူးသဖြင့်

and you especially need to mention this word

ကိုရီးယားရဲ့ ရာသီဥတုကို နိုင်ငံခြားသားတိုင်းကို ဖော်ပြတဲ့အခါ

when you describe Korea's  weather to any foreigners, 

ဒီစကားလုံးကို ဖော်ပြဖို့ လိုပါတယ်

Okay.

So if they ask “What's the weather like in Korea?”

“ကိုရီးယားမှာ ရာသီဥတု ဘယ်လိုရှိလဲ” လို့ မေးရင်၊

you have to say “humid”.

"စိုစွတ်" လို့ ပြောရပါမယ်။

Well, what does ‘humid’ mean?

ကောင်းပြီ၊ 'စိုစွတ်သော' ဟူသည် အဘယ်အရာကို ဆိုလိုသနည်း။

Well again, ‘humid’ is used to describe weather.

တစ်ဖန် 'စိုစွတ်သော' ကို ရာသီဥတုဖော်ပြရန် သုံးသည်။

It means that it's very wet and hot, right?

ဆိုလိုတာက အရမ်းပူပြီး စိုနေတာပဲ မဟုတ်လား။

You know what I mean.

ကျွန်တော်ဘာဆိုလိုတယ်ဆိုတာကိုသင်သိလား။

So even my best friend, she comes to Korea every year from Southern California,

ဒါကြောင့် ကျွန်မရဲ့ အခင်ဆုံးသူငယ်ချင်းတောင်မှ သူက ကျွန်မရှိရာ

which is where I'm from,

ကယ်လီဖိုးနီးယားတောင်ပိုင်းက ကိုရီးယားကို နှစ်တိုင်းလာပြီး

and she complains about this all the time.

ဒီအကြောင်းကို တစ်ချိန်လုံး ညည်းညူနေတယ်။

“It's so humid," right?

“စိုစွတ်လွန်းတယ်” ဟုတ်လား

“It's so hot and wet.”

“အရမ်းပူပြီး စိုနေတာ”

And she complains about this  because where we're from,

ငါတို့ဘယ်ကရောက်နေတာလဲ အဲလို

it's not like that. It's hot,  but it doesn't get very humid.

မဟုတ်ဘူးဆိုတော့ ပူတယ် ဒါပေမယ့် အရမ်းစိုစွတ်မနေဘူး။

So let's look at the board for some examples on how to use the word.

ဒီတော့ စကားလုံးသုံးပုံနဲ့ပတ်သက်တဲ့ ဥပမာတချို့အတွက် ဘုတ်ပြားကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

Okay.

So here it is.

ဒီတော့ ဒီမှာ

“Today is very humid.”

"ဒီနေ့ အရမ်းစိုထိုင်း နေတယ် "

So that's the word I want to teach you today. ‘humid’

ဒါကြောင့် ဒီနေ့ သင်ပေးချင်တဲ့ စကားလုံးက 'စို' လို့

But there are some other  ways to say the same thing.

ပြောလို့ ရပေမယ့်

Instead of ‘humid’,

အတူတူပဲ ပြောလို့ရတဲ့

we can say a couple of other words.

တခြားနည်းတွေလည်း ရှိသေးတယ်

For example, we can say, “Today is very muggy.”

။ အရမ်းမိုက်တယ်။"

“Today is very muggy.”

"ဒီနေ့ အရမ်းမိုက်တယ်"

Okay, ‘muggy’ means humid.

အိုကေ၊ 'muggy' ဆိုသည်မှာ စိုစွတ်နေပါသည်။

Again, hot and wet.

So ‘humid’, ‘muggy’, and ‘sticky’ all have the same meaning when you're describing

Now, I told you that where I'm from it's not humid, it's hot, but it's not humid,

That word is ‘dry’.

So if it's not humid, I can  say, “Today is very dry.”

ဆိုတော့ စိုစွတ်မနေဘူးဆိုရင် "ဒီနေ့ အရမ်းခြောက်တယ်" လို့ ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။

“Today is very dry.”

"ဒီနေ့ အရမ်းခြောက်တယ်"

Okay, well, let's look at some more example sentences together.

And in this video, we're going to talk about a slang word that comes from California.

ဒီဗီဒီယိုထဲမှာ၊ ကယ်လီဖိုးနီးယားကလာတဲ့ ဘန်းစကားအကြောင်း ပြောသွားမယ်။

That's where I'm from.

အဲဒါက ကျွန်တော် လာတာပါ။

This slang word is actually  from Northern California,

ဒီဘန်းစကားဟာ တကယ်တော့

in areas like San Francisco,  San Jose, and Oakland.

ဆန်ဖရန်စစ္စကို၊ San Jose နဲ့ Oakland တို့လို နေရာမျိုးတွေမှာ မြောက်ပိုင်းကယ်လီဖိုးနီးယားက လာတာပါ

And this word is the slang word ‘hella’.

။ စကားလုံးသည် ဗန်းစကား 'hella' ဖြစ်သည်၊

And it actually has two different meanings.

၎င်းသည် အမှန်တကယ်တွင် ကွဲပြားသော အဓိပ္ပာယ်နှစ်ခုရှိသည်။

So let's look at how it's used in some sentences.

ထို့ကြောင့် အချို့သောစာကြောင်းများတွင် ၎င်းကို မည်သို့အသုံးပြုသည်ကို ကြည့်ကြပါစို့။

Okay, so here's the first example sentence.

ဟုတ်ပြီ၊ ဤသည်မှာ ပထမဆုံး ဥပမာဝါကျဖြစ်သည်။

“This room is ‘hella’ hot.”

"ဒီအခန်းက 'hella' ပူတယ်။"

hmm… How is ‘hella’ used?

ဟမ်... 'hella' ကို ဘယ်လိုသုံးတာလဲ၊

It's used to mean the word  ‘really’ or ‘very’, right?

'တကယ်' ဒါမှမဟုတ် 'အရမ်း' လို့ အဓိပ္ပာယ်ရလေ့ရှိတယ်။

“This room is very hot.”

"ဒီအခန်းက အရမ်းပူတယ်။"

or “This room is really hot.”

ဒါမှမဟုတ် "ဒီအခန်းက အရမ်းပူတယ်"

In that case, we can say,  “This room is hella hot.”

အဲဒီအခါမှာ “ဒီအခန်းက ပူတယ်” လို့ ပြောနိုင်ပါတယ်။

So that's the first meaning.

ဒါဆို ဒါ ပထမအဓိပ္ပာယ်ပဲ။

Let's move on to the second meaning.

ဒုတိယအဓိပ္ပာယ်ကို ဆက်ကြည့်ရအောင်။

And here's another example sentence.

ပြီးတော့ ဒါက နောက်ထပ် ဥပမာဝါကျတစ်ခုပါ

“There's hella food at home.”

။

That doesn't match the word ‘really’, right?

အဲဒါ 'တကယ်' ဆိုတဲ့ စကားလုံးနဲ့ မကိုက်ညီဘူးလား။

Let's look. There's really food at home.

ကြည့်လိုက်ရအောင်။ အိမ်မှာ တကယ်စားစရာရှိတယ်။

It doesn't make sense actually.  In the second sentence,

တကယ်တော့ အဓိပ္ပါယ်မရှိပါဘူး။ ဒုတိယဝါကျတွင်

‘hella’ is used to mean there's ‘a lot of’

'ဟယ်လာ' ကို 'အများကြီး'

or there's ‘many’ things, right?

သို့မဟုတ် 'များစွာ' ရှိသည်ဟု အဓိပ္ပာယ်ရလေ့ရှိသည်။

So in this case, instead of saying,  “There's a lot of food at home,”

ထို့ကြောင့် ဤကိစ္စတွင်၊ "အိမ်မှာ စားစရာတွေ အများကြီးရှိတယ်" ဟုပြောမည့်အစား

we can say, “There's hella food at home.”

"အိမ်မှာ ဟယ်လာအစားအစာ ရှိတယ်" ဟု ပြောနိုင်ပါသည်။

So hurry and go home and eat some of that food.

ဒါကြောင့် မြန်မြန်ပြီး အိမ်ပြန်ပြီး အဲဒီအစာကို စားပါ။

Now under ‘hella’, I've written the word ‘hecka’.

အခု 'hella' အောက်မှာ 'hecka' ဆိုတဲ့ စကားလုံးကို ရေးထားတယ်။

And that's because some people feel uncomfortable using the word ‘hella’, right?

အဲဒါကြောင့် တချို့လူတွေက 'hella' ဆိုတဲ့ စကားလုံးကို သုံးရတာ စိတ်မသက်မသာ ခံစားရတာ မဟုတ်လား။

Because ‘hella’ has the word ‘hell’, right?

'ဟယ်လာ' မှာ 'ငရဲ' ဆိုတဲ့ စကားလုံးရှိလို့ ဟုတ်တယ်မလား?

And ‘hell’ can sometimes be used to express an emotion that's negative or very strong, right?

တခါတရံ 'ငရဲ' ကို အပျက်သဘော သို့မဟုတ် အလွန်ပြင်းထန်သော စိတ်ခံစားချက်ကို ဖော်ပြရန် သုံးနိုင်သည် မဟုတ်လား။

And in that case, people use ‘heck’, right?

အဲဒီအခါမှာ လူတွေက 'ဟယ်' လို့ သုံးကြတယ်ဟုတ်လား။

So again, instead of ‘hella’  some people say ‘hecka’.

ဒီတော့ တချို့လူတွေက 'ဟယ်လာ' အစား 'ဟယ်လာ' လို့ ပြောပြန်တယ်။

mm-hmm

So we can say, “There's hecka food at home.”

mm-hmm

ဒီတော့ “အိမ်မှာ ထမင်းဟင်း ရှိတယ်” လို့ ပြောနိုင်ပါတယ်။

Again, it means the same thing  - there's a lot of food at home.

ထပ်တူထပ်မျှဆိုလိုသည်မှာ - အိမ်မှာ စားစရာတွေ အများကြီးရှိတယ်။

“There's hecka food at home.”

"အိမ်မှာ ထမင်းဟင်း ရှိတယ်"

But if you don't want to use  ‘hella’, you can use this one.

ဒါပေမယ့် 'hella' မသုံးချင်ဘူးဆိုရင်တော့ ဒီတစ်ခုကို သုံးလို့ရပါတယ်။

And in the same way you can use ‘hecka’ to  substitute ‘hella’ in the first sentence as well.

အလားတူပင် ပထမဝါကျတွင် 'hella' ကို အစားထိုးရန် 'hecka' ကို သုံးနိုင်သည်။

“This room is hecka hot.” Right?

"ဒီအခန်းက ပူတယ်" ဟုတ်တယ်ဟုတ်?

“This room is hecka hot.”

"ဒီအခန်းက ပူတယ်"

It's very hot in here but I  don't want to say ‘hella’.

ဒီမှာ အရမ်းပူပေမယ့် 'ဟယ်လို' လို့ မပြောချင်ဘူး။

But remember, again, this slang word ‘hella’ and ‘hecka’ is actually from Northern California,

ဒါပေမယ့် ထပ်ပြီးသတိရပါ၊ ဒီဘန်းစကား 'hella' နဲ့ 'hecka' ဟာ ကယ်လီဖိုးနီးယားမြောက်ပိုင်းက ဖြစ်တဲ့အတွက်

so you might not hear it

ကြောင့် အဲဒါကို မကြားနိုင်သလို

or people might not understand what you mean 

New York ဒါမှမဟုတ် UK လိုမျိုး တခြားနေရာတွေမှာ သုံးရင်

if you use it in other places  such as New York or the UK.

လူတွေက ဘာကိုဆိုလိုသလဲဆိုတာကို သတိပြုပါ ။

So keep that in mind.

ဒါကြောင့် အဲဒါကို စိတ်ထဲထားပါ။

Okay so let's look at a couple examples sentences.

ကောင်းပြီ ဒါဆို ဥပမာ ဝါကျနှစ်ကြောင်းကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

“This pizza is hella good.”

“ဒီပီဇာက ကောင်းတယ်”

“This pizza is hella good.”

“ဒီပီဇာက ကောင်းတယ်”

“You look hella pretty.”

"မင်းကြည့်ရတာ လှလိုက်တာ။"

“You look hella pretty.”

"မင်းကြည့်ရတာ လှလိုက်တာ။"

“Your hair is hecka long.”

"မင်းဆံပင်က အရှည်ကြီး။"

“Your hair is hecka long.”

"မင်းဆံပင်က အရှည်ကြီး။"

“I have hella things to do.”

"ငါ့မှာ ဟယ်လို လုပ်စရာရှိတယ်။"

“I have hella things to do.”

"ငါ့မှာ ဟယ်လို လုပ်စရာရှိတယ်။"

Okay, so those are the ways that we can use  ‘hella’ or ‘hecka’ in our everyday speech.

ဟုတ်ပြီ၊ အဲဒါတွေက ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ရဲ့နေ့စဉ်စကားပြောမှာ 'hella' သို့မဟုတ် 'hecka' ကိုသုံးနိုင်တဲ့ နည်းလမ်းတွေပါပဲ။

But I want to remind you guys, one more time,

ဒါပေမယ့် နောက်တစ်ကြိမ် သတိပေးချင်တာကတော့

this slang is used mostly in Northern California.

ဒီဘန်းစကားဟာ မြောက်ပိုင်းကယ်လီဖိုးနီးယားမှာ အများဆုံးသုံးပါတယ်။

Now, for those of you who  like and enjoy hip-hop music.

အခုဆို ဟစ်ဟော့ဂီတကို ကြိုက်တဲ့သူတွေအတွက်ပါ။

Some hip-hop artists from that area,

e-40 နှင့် Federation ကဲ့သို့သော

such as e-40, and the Federation,  use the slang word in their music.

ထိုဒေသမှ ဟစ်ဟော့အနုပညာရှင်အချို့သည် ၎င်းတို့၏ဂီတတွင် ဘန်းစကားများကို အသုံးပြုကြသည်။

They use ‘hella’ mostly.

အများစုကတော့ 'hella' ကို သုံးပါတယ်။

So next time you decide to  listen to some of their music,

And that word is ‘monsoon season’.

၊ ဟုတ်ပါတယ်။ ပြီးတော့ အဲဒီစကားလုံးက 'မုတ်သုံရာသီ' တဲ့။

What is ‘monsoon season’?

'မုတ်သုံရာသီ' ဆိုတာ ဘာလဲ။

Well, every summer  

နွေရာသီတိုင်း

many foreigners come and they're surprised  by how much rain there is, right?

နိုင်ငံခြားသားတွေ အများကြီးလာပြီး မိုးဘယ်လောက်ရွာတယ်ဆိုတာ အံ့သြကြမှာဘဲ။

In the summer, in Korea, for about one month,

နွေရာသီမှာ ကိုရီးယားမှာ တစ်လလောက်

usually in July, there's a lot of rain, okay.

မိုးရွာလေ့ရှိပြီး ဇူလိုင်လမှာ မိုးအရမ်းရွာတယ်။

And in English we call that the ‘monsoon season’.

အင်္ဂလိပ်လို 'မုတ်သုံရာသီ' လို့ခေါ်တယ်။

So it's very important for  Koreans to have a good umbrella.

ဒါကြောင့် ကိုရီးယားလူမျိုးတွေအတွက် ထီးကောင်းတစ်ခုရှိဖို့က အရမ်းအရေးကြီးပါတယ်။

Maybe some rain boots, right?

မိုးကာဘွတ်ဖိနပ်တွေလည်း ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်။

But also it can cause some problems  for some businesses and homes  

ဒါပေမယ့်လည်း မိုးအရမ်းရွာပြီး ရေကြီးရင်

if there's too much rain and flooding, right?

တချို့စီးပွားရေးလုပ်ငန်းတွေနဲ့ အိမ်တွေမှာ ပြဿနာတွေ ရှိလာနိုင်တယ်

So if you see a foreigner, and  they ask about summer in Korea,

မဟုတ်လား။ ဒါကြောင့် နိုင်ငံခြားသားတစ်ယောက်ကိုတွေ့ပြီး ကိုရီးယားမှာ နွေရာသီအကြောင်းမေးရင်

it's very important that you remember  that you tell them about monsoon season.

မုတ်သုံရာသီအကြောင်းပြောပြဖို့ သတိရဖို့ အရမ်းအရေးကြီးပါတယ်။

Okay so let's look on the board  and look at this example sentence.

ကောင်းပြီ ဒါဆို ဘုတ်ပေါ်မှာ ကြည့်ပြီး ဒီဥပမာဝါကျကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

“The monsoon season in Korea begins in summer.”

"ကိုရီးယားမှာ မုတ်သုံရာသီက နွေရာသီမှာစတယ်။"

Right? I just talked about that.

ဟုတ်တယ်ဟုတ်? အဲဒီအကြောင်းပဲ ပြောခဲ့တယ်။

Again, “The monsoon…”

“မုတ်သုံလေ…” လို့

Let's pronounce it together.

အတူတူ အသံထွက်ကြပါစို့။

‘monsoon’

'မုတ်သုံ'

‘monsoon’

'မုတ်သုံရာသီ'

So “The monsoon season in Korea begins in summer.”

ဒီတော့ "ကိုရီးယားမှာ မုတ်သုံရာသီက နွေရာသီမှာ စတယ်။"

And as we said, the monsoon  season lasts for about one month,

ကျွန်တော်ပြောသလိုပဲ မုတ်သုံရာသီက တစ်လလောက်ကြာပြီး

and there's lots of rain  during the monsoon season.

မုတ်သုံရာသီမှာ မိုးအများကြီးရွာတယ်။

Okay, let's look at some more examples together.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ နောက်ထပ် ဥပမာအချို့ကို အတူတူကြည့်ရအောင်။

Let's look at these examples.

ဒီဥပမာတွေကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

“It's very humid during the monsoon season.” “It's very humid during the monsoon season.”

“မုတ်သုံရာသီမှာ အရမ်းစိုစွတ်နေတယ်။” “မုတ်သုံရာသီမှာ အရမ်းစိုစွတ်နေတယ်။”

“The monsoon season is coming.”

"မုတ်သုံရာသီရောက်ပြီ"

“The monsoon season is coming.”

"မုတ်သုံရာသီရောက်ပြီ"

“I need to buy a new umbrella  for the monsoon season.”

"မုတ်သုံရာသီအတွက် ထီးအသစ်ဝယ်ရမယ်"

Okay so in this video we learned about  the vocabulary word ‘monsoon season’.

ကောင်းပြီ ဒါဆို ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ 'မုတ်သုံရာသီ' ဆိုတဲ့ ဝေါဟာရစကားလုံးအကြောင်း သိလာရတယ်။

Remember, it's a time in Korea when there's a  lot of rain and it's very hot and sticky, right?

ကိုရီးယားမှာ မိုးအရမ်းရွာပြီး ပူပြီး စေးကပ်တဲ့ အချိန်ကို သတိရပါ ။

Now, in Southern California where I'm from,

အခု ကျွန်တော်ရောက်နေတဲ့ ကယ်လီဖိုးနီးယားတောင်ပိုင်းမှာ

there is no monsoon season.

မုတ်သုံရာသီ မရှိပါဘူး။

We get a little bit of rain in the winter  time which is very different from Korea.

ဆောင်းရာသီမှာ မိုးနည်းနည်းရွာတာက ကိုရီးယားနဲ့ တော်တော်ကွာခြားတယ်။

But again, nothing like the rain we see here.

ဒါပေမယ့် ဒီမှာမြင်ရတဲ့ မိုးနဲ့တော့ ဘာမှမဆိုင်ပါဘူး။

Okay so that is something that  I'm still trying to get used to.

ကောင်းပြီ အဲဒါက ငါကြိုးစားနေတုန်းပဲ။

Okay, so again, the word we  learned is ‘monsoon season’.
