I'm Esther and in this video I'm going to teach you how to ask someone for permission

ฉันชื่อเอสเธอร์ และในวิดีโอนี้ ฉันจะสอนวิธีขออนุญาตจากใครสักคน

Okay so before I teach you that,

เอาล่ะ ก่อนที่ฉันจะสอนคุณ เรา

let's first talk about what permission means.

มาคุยกันก่อนว่าการอนุญาตหมายถึงอะไร

Okay so...

เอาล่ะ...

When you want to ask someone if it's okay to do something, you're asking for permission.

เมื่อคุณอยากจะถามใครสักคนว่ามันโอเคไหมที่จะทำอะไรสักอย่าง คุณกำลังขออนุญาต

Okay again, you want to do something, you don't know if it's okay, so you ask someone.

โอเคอีกครั้ง อยากทำบ้าง ไม่รู้ว่าโอเคไหมจึงถามใครสักคน

For example, maybe you want to borrow something.

เช่น บางทีคุณอาจต้องการยืมบางสิ่งบางอย่าง

Then you should ask someone.

แล้วคุณควรถามใครสักคน

If you just take it that's stealing, right?

ถ้าแค่เอามันไปขโมยใช่ไหม?

So you have to ask.

ดังนั้นคุณต้องถาม

Is it okay? Alright?

ไม่เป็นไรใช่ไหม? ใช้ได้?

So there are three ways to ask for permission in English.

การขออนุญาตเป็นภาษาอังกฤษมีสามวิธี

The first way is to say, "Can I...?" "Can I...?" Okay.

วิธีแรกคือการพูดว่า "ฉันสามารถ...?" "ให้ฉัน...?" ตกลง.

The second way is "Could I...?" "Could I...?"

วิธีที่สองคือ "ฉันสามารถ...?" "ฉันสามารถ...?"

And the third way is, "May I...?" "May I...?" Okay.

และวิธีที่สามคือ “ฉันขอ...?” "ฉันขอ...?" ตกลง.

So 'can I', 'could I', and 'may I' are all good

ดังนั้น 'can I', 'can I' และ 'may I' ล้วนเป็น

ways to ask for permission.

But the third one, 'may I', is more polite. Okay.

So if you want to ask somebody who has more power,

maybe your parents, may be your teacher,

then you should say 'may I'.

Maybe even to somebody that you don't know very well,

it's better to say may I because again it's more polite.

ก็ควรพูดว่า May I ดีกว่า เพราะขอย้ำอีกครั้งว่ามันสุภาพมากกว่า

So let's look at these examples.

ลองมาดูตัวอย่างเหล่านี้กัน

Okay so I've written 'can I', 'could I', and 'may I'

โอเค ฉันเลยเขียนว่า 'ฉันทำได้ไหม' 'ฉันทำได้ไหม' และ 'ฉันได้ไหม'

on the board.

Remember, after these three, you have to say a verb.

Okay so let's look at the verbs.

'help' 'see' 'have' 'call' 'borrow' 'go' 'speak' and 'go' again.

Okay so I know I went through that a little bit quickly but

we're going to go through it slowly now.

Okay so here's what we'll do.

I'm going to read and try to switch some around. Okay?

So... "Can I help you?"

Let's try that a little bit faster.

"Can I help you?"

Now remember, you can also say 'could I' and 'may I'.

For example, if you're walking through a department store,

and the salesperson comes to you,

they would probably say, "May I help you?" because they want to be polite to the customer.

Maybe you like someone you met them and you like them

and you want to see them again next time,

So you say, "Can I see you again?"

Let's try a couple with 'could'.

"Could I call you later?"

"Could I call you later?"

“ฉันโทรหาคุณทีหลังได้ไหม”

Again, remember, you can use all three, but we're doing 'could'.

ขอย้ำอีกครั้งว่า คุณสามารถใช้ทั้งสามอย่างได้ แต่เรากำลังทำ 'could'

"Could I call you later?"

“ฉันโทรหาคุณทีหลังได้ไหม”

"Could I borrow some money?"

“ฉันขอยืมเงินหน่อยได้ไหม?”

Okay. You usually borrow money from a friend or somebody that you know,

ตกลง. คุณมักจะยืมเงินจากเพื่อนหรือใครสักคนที่คุณรู้จัก

so that's why it's better to say maybe 'can I' or 'could I'.

"Could I borrow some money?"

Okay.

"Could I go?"

You want to leave, so you're asking if it's okay.

อยากจะออกก็เลยถามว่าโอเคไหม

"Could I go?"

"ฉันไปได้ไหม?"

Okay and remember 'may I' is polite okay

โอเค และจำไว้ว่า 'may I' นั้นสุภาพ โอเค

you want to say that to someone who's a little bit more important,

คุณต้องพูดแบบนั้นกับคนที่สำคัญกว่านิดหน่อย

maybe someone you don't know.

หรืออาจจะเป็นคนที่คุณไม่รู้จัก

Again you would use 'may I'.

คุณจะใช้ 'ฉันขอ' อีกครั้ง

So "May I speak to mr. Kim?"

“ขอคุยกับคุณคิมหน่อยได้ไหม”

Maybe you called his office, okay, so you say,

บางทีคุณอาจโทรหาสำนักงานของเขา โอเค แล้วคุณก็พูดว่า

"May I speak to mr. Kim?"

"ขอคุยกับคุณคิมหน่อยได้ไหม"

And the last one -

และสุดท้าย -

"May I go to the bathroom?"

"ขอไปเข้าห้องน้ำได้ไหม"

This one is maybe if you're asking a teacher.

อันนี้บางทีถ้าคุณถามครู

Right? You're in class and you have to go, you can ask a teacher

ขวา? คุณอยู่ในชั้นเรียนและต้องไป คุณสามารถถามครูว่า

"May I go to the bathroom?"

"ขอไปห้องน้ำได้ไหม"

Again, 'can I' 'could' 'can' and 'could' are both okay.

อีกครั้ง 'ฉันสามารถ' 'สามารถ' 'สามารถ' และ 'สามารถ' ทั้งคู่โอเค

But maybe it's more polite....

แต่บางทีอาจจะสุภาพกว่าก็ได้....

If you want to be polite, you should say,

ถ้าจะสุภาพก็ควรพูดว่า

"May I go to the bathroom?"

"ขอไปเข้าห้องน้ำได้ไหม"

And I'm sure the teacher will like that better because you're being polite.

และฉันแน่ใจว่าครูจะชอบมันมากขึ้นเพราะว่าคุณมีความสุภาพ

Okay. So...

Let’s first start with 'like and like to'

ก่อนอื่นเรามาเริ่มด้วย 'like and like to'

I like

I like

and I like to'

and I like to'

First, let's look at the board for some examples.

ก่อนอื่นเรามาดูตัวอย่างกันที่กระดาน

With 'I like', we have to put a  person, place or thing, right?

กับ 'ฉันชอบ' เราต้องใส่ คน สถานที่ หรือสิ่งของ ใช่ไหม?

So let's look.

มาดูกัน.

'I like cookies.' Right, food is a thing.

'ฉันชอบคุ้กกี้.' ใช่แล้ว อาหารก็เป็นสิ่งหนึ่ง

So I could say, 'I like cookies'.

ฉันก็เลยบอกได้เลยว่า 'ฉันชอบคุกกี้'

'I like pizza.'

'ฉันชอบพิซซ่า.'

Okay.

ตกลง.

The next one.

อันถัดไป

'I like English'

'ฉันชอบภาษาอังกฤษ'

English is a subject in school,

ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นวิชา

so that's another thing,

หนึ่ง ในโรงเรียน

so I can also say, 'I like math',

Right?

The next one is, 'I like you.'

You is a person.

I can say, 'I like him.'

Right?

I can say a person.

And, 'I like dogs.'

That's another thing.

I like dogs or for me,  personally, I like cats as well.

Okay, so let's first try these  examples a little bit faster.

The second example is,

Now, we put a 'to' here.

ตอนนี้ เราใส่ 'to' ไว้ที่นี่

That means after, I have to put an activity.

แปลว่าหลังจากนั้นฉันต้องทำกิจกรรม

Right? An activity.

ขวา? กิจกรรม.

For example, 'I like to dance.'

ตัวอย่างเช่น 'ฉันชอบเต้น'

'I like to dance.'

'ฉันชอบเต้น.'

But what I want you listen for is that 'to' becomes just like a 'tuh!'

แต่สิ่งที่ผมอยากให้คุณฟังคือ 'to' กลายเป็นเหมือน 'tuh!'

Now, It's ok to say, 'I like to dance.'

ตอนนี้ เป็นเรื่องปกติที่จะพูดว่า 'ฉันชอบเต้น'

'I like to dance'.

That's okay but most native English speakers,

ไม่เป็นไร แต่เจ้าของภาษาอังกฤษส่วนใหญ่

will kind of get rid of the 'o' and say,

จะเลิกใช้ตัว 'o' แล้วพูดว่า

'I like to dance.'

'ฉันชอบเต้น'

'I like to dance.'

Here is the next one,

'I like to sing.'

'I like to study.'

So, these are all personally things that I like to do.

Actually, I love to them.

ที่จริงแล้วฉันรักพวกเขา

But 'like to' and 'like' is a little more common.

Okay.

So let's practice these  four examples one more time.

Okay.

So, if you look at the board,

I've changed 'I like' to 'I don’t like'.

ฉันเปลี่ยน 'ฉันชอบ' เป็น 'ฉันไม่ชอบ'

Now, it’s the same.

ตอนนี้ก็เหมือนกัน

At the end, I have to say a person, a place or thing.

สุดท้ายก็ต้องเอ่ยถึงคน สถานที่ หรือสิ่งของ

Okay.

So, let’s look at them together.

Let’s try it a little bit faster.

We can say 'I hate' but 'I  don’t like' is more common.

Okay.

The second example is,

Remember, at the end of this,  we have to put an action,

จำไว้ว่าท้ายที่สุดแล้ว เราจะต้องลงมือกระทำ

something that we do, right.

So, we can say,

พูดได้เลยว่า

I don’t like to run.

ผมไม่ชอบวิ่ง

Remember, again the ‘to’.

You can say, ‘I don’t like to’

Let's try the next one.

It can get a little bit scary, right.

Okay, so in this video we  talked about the expressions,

โอเค ในวิดีโอนี้ เราพูดถึงสำนวนที่ว่า

'I like', 'I like to', and 'I  don’t like', 'I don’t like to'.

'ฉันชอบ' 'ฉันชอบ' และ 'ฉันไม่ชอบ' 'ฉันไม่ชอบ'

But before we close up, I'm going to 

แต่ก่อนที่เราจะปิดกัน ฉันจะ

talk about 'I like' and I  'don’t like' one more time

because there are other  ways to say the same thing.

Instead of 'I like', I can  also say 'I enjoy' or 'I love'.

Remember, 'love' is very strong, right.

จำไว้ว่า 'ความรัก' นั้นแข็งแกร่งมากใช่ไหม

For example, 'I love cats'.

เช่น 'ฉันรักแมว'

I also love dogs.

ฉันยังรักสุนัข

Right?

ขวา?

So, 'love' is stronger than 'like'.

ดังนั้น 'ความรัก' จึงแข็งแกร่งกว่า 'ชอบ'

Okay.

ตกลง.

The next part is,

ส่วนต่อไปคือ

'I don’t like'

'ฉันไม่ชอบ'

I can also say, 'I dislike'.

ฉันยังสามารถพูดได้ว่า 'ฉันไม่ชอบ'

Again, 'I dislike'.

'ฉันไม่ชอบ' อีกครั้ง

For example, 'I dislike snakes'.

เช่น 'ฉันไม่ชอบงู'

Right? Or 'I hate snakes'.

ขวา? หรือ 'ฉันเกลียดงู'

Similar to 'love',

เช่นเดียวกับ 'ความรัก'

'hate' is a very strong way of saying I don’t like something.

And in this video, we’re going to talk about a slang word that is “What’s up?”

So “What’s up?” can be used in 2 ways.

The first way is a way to  greet people to say, 'hi'.

And actually when we say, “What’s up?”, it means “hi”, “how are you?”

or “What are you doing these days?” right.

So that’s the first way we use “What’s up?”

The second way is to ask, “What’s wrong?” “Is something wrong?”

Another way, remember the second way, is to ask,

So here is how we would use it.

And I also want to mention

that some people say, “What up?”

Now, let me remind you that “What’s up?” is a great way to say “Hello” or “How are you?”

But remember, only to somebody that you know well.

mmm, so first of all, let's talk about the meaning of these words.

‘can’ means you are able to do something. Maybe because you have the skill or maybe

Now, this is important to people  like me who like shopping, right.

So, for example, I like  shopping especially for dresses.

I can also say this dress is inexpensive. We all know what expensive is but we say

inexpensive so that's the opposite of expensive.

‘affordable’ and ‘inexpensive’  have very similar meanings. 

'affordable' และ 'inxpensive' มีความหมายคล้ายกันมาก

Again, I have enough money to buy this. It's not too expensive. 

อีกครั้งฉันมีเงินพอที่จะซื้อสิ่งนี้ มันไม่แพงเกินไป

Then, we have ‘cheap’. This dress is cheap.

Now, ‘cheap’ is similar, it means it's not  expensive, but it's a little bit more negative.

If you say that something is cheap,  people may think that the quality  

ถ้าบอกว่าของถูกคนอาจจะคิดว่าคุณภาพ

is not very good. It's not very nice.

Okay. Now, let's look at the opposite. 

ตกลง. ทีนี้มาดูสิ่งที่ตรงกันข้ามกัน

The opposite of these words is ‘expensive’. This dress is expensive.

คำตรงกันข้ามคือ 'แพง' ชุดนี้แพงนะ

It costs a lot of money, and too much money. Maybe, I don't want to buy it. 

มันใช้เงินมากและเงินมากเกินไป บางทีฉันไม่อยากซื้อมัน

We can also say ‘overpriced’. This dress is overpriced. 

เรายังสามารถพูดว่า 'เกินราคา' ชุดนี้เกินราคา

That means the price is too high. So, again, I don't want to buy this dress,  

นั่นหมายความว่าราคาสูงเกินไป ไม่อยากซื้อชุดนี้อีกแล้ว

it's too expensive and overpriced. Okay.

Okay, so in this video, we learned that when  we want to describe the cost of something,

as not too expensive,

we say ‘affordable’.

Okay. Something is

Well, when do we use this word?

Well, let me give you an example.

Let's say that you're taking a test

and you look in your bag

and uh-oh you forgot your pencil.

So what do you do?

Let's look at an example sentence.

That's the correct way to say it.

“Can I borrow your pencil?

Okay.

Another way that you can say is,

Let's look at it again.

Now, both of these ways are okay.

And they're both correct and right,

but I think this one is a better way to say it.

Alright, now, in the beginning  of the video, I taught you

เอาล่ะ ในตอนต้นของวิดีโอ ฉันสอนให้คุณ

to say, “Can I borrow… something”

“Can I borrow your pencil?”

“ฉันขอยืมดินสอของคุณได้ไหม”

But, actually,

there's a more polite way to say this.

มีวิธีพูดที่สุภาพกว่านี้

And that is by saying,

“May I borrow something from you?”

You should use ‘May I’ when you're talking  to someone you don't know very well.

Maybe it's a complete stranger,

อาจจะเป็นคนแปลกหน้าโดยสิ้นเชิง

or maybe you know that person,

but you guys aren't really close friends.

It's better to use ‘May I’.

So again, “May I borrow something?”

For example,

“May I borrow your pen?”

“ฉันขอยืมปากกาของคุณได้ไหม”

Or “May I borrow your phone?”

Or maybe like I said in the  example in the beginning,

And that expression is ‘to dump someone’. ‘to dump someone’

Well, what do you think that means? Well, for those of you who are in a relationship,  

แล้วคุณคิดว่านั่นหมายความว่าอย่างไร? สำหรับคนที่กำลังมีแฟน

maybe, you're not happy. Hmm 

คุณอาจจะไม่มีความสุข อืม

Maybe you don't love that person anymore, or maybe  that person is just really horrible, really bad. 

บางทีคุณอาจไม่รักคนนั้นอีกต่อไปแล้ว หรือบางทีคนๆ นั้นช่างน่ากลัวจริงๆ หรือแย่จริงๆ

So, what do you do? Well, you break up with them.

Right, you say, “I don't  want to be with you anymore.”

And that's where the expression  comes in ‘to dump someone’.

So, when you tell your boyfriend or girlfriend, “I don't want to be with you anymore,” you

are dumping them. Okay, so let's look at these examples first.

or maybe I did something that made him angry. So he dumped me.

He doesn't want to be with me any longer.

Hmm, ‘I dumped him’.

The next sentence, ‘I dumped him’. This one is not so bad. 

ประโยคถัดมา 'ฉันทิ้งเขาไปแล้ว' อันนี้ก็ไม่เลว

Maybe my boyfriend was really  bad, or he lied too much. 

บางทีแฟนของฉันอาจจะแย่มากหรือเขาโกหกมากเกินไป

So I kicked him. I got rid of him. 

ฉันจึงเตะเขา ฉันกำจัดเขาแล้ว

I dumped him. Okay. 

ฉันทิ้งเขาไป ตกลง.

So, let's look at some more  example sentences together.

‘She dumped him because he lied to her.’ 

“เธอทิ้งเขาเพราะเขาโกหกเธอ”

‘She dumped him because he lied to her.’

“เขาทิ้งฉันไปแล้ว ฉันเสียใจมาก”

Okay, so in this video we learned  the expression ‘to dump someone’.

Remember, you can dump a bad boyfriend or  girlfriend, but they can also dump you.

Now, I want to tell you about  one of my ex-boyfriends.

Now, hit on doesn't mean to hit.

ตอนนี้การตีไม่ได้หมายความว่าจะตี

Right?

ขวา?

Hit means you punch someone or you use your hand to hurt someone.

การตีหมายความว่าคุณชกใครบางคนหรือใช้มือทำร้ายใครบางคน

So, that's not what it means.

นั่นไม่ได้หมายความว่าอย่างนั้น

'hit on' means well when a guy maybe likes a girl

'hit on' มีความหมายดีเมื่อผู้ชายอาจชอบผู้หญิง

he sees someone and he thinks that girl is cute.

ที่เขาเห็นใครบางคนและเขาคิดว่าผู้หญิงคนนั้นน่ารัก

He wants to know her better.

เขาอยากรู้จักเธอมากขึ้น

He wants to know her more.

เขาต้องการรู้จักเธอมากขึ้น

So, he might go to her and  ask for her phone number.

ดังนั้นเขาอาจจะไปหาเธอและขอหมายเลขโทรศัพท์ของเธอ

Try to talk to her.

That's hitting on.

กำลังโดนเลย

That's hit on.

ที่กำลังฮิตอยู่

Right?

He's hitting on her.

Okay?

So ah... yes a girl can hit on a guy as well.

อ่า... ใช่แล้ว ผู้หญิงก็สามารถตีผู้ชายได้เช่นกัน

Um… usually but it's usually  the guy that hits on the girl.

อืม… ปกติแล้วจะเป็นผู้ชายที่ตีผู้หญิงนะ

So, let's look at these examples.

He hit on her.

เขาตีเธอ

He hit on her.

เขาตีเธอ

Again this means, he went to the girl and try to talk to her and know her better.

หมายความว่าเขาไปหาหญิงสาวคนนั้นและพยายามคุยกับเธอและรู้จักเธอดีขึ้น

So, maybe they can be a couple later or have a relationship.

Again, he hit on her.

The next sentence says she got hit on.

This is not the same as this sentence.

She didn't hit on someone.

So, don't get that confused.

Let's look at these examples.

Now, before I start, I want to tell you that ‘pissed’ can actually have several meanings.

But today, we're going to focus on one meaning.

Okay, so ‘pissed’ or ‘pissed off’ can mean very angry or maybe upset or annoyed.

โอเค ดังนั้น 'pissed' หรือ 'piss off' อาจหมายถึงโกรธมาก หรืออาจจะอารมณ์เสียหรือรำคาญก็ได้

Okay, so before I explain a little bit more, let's look at these example sentences.

เอาล่ะ ก่อนที่จะอธิบายเพิ่มเติมอีกสักหน่อย เรามาดูประโยคตัวอย่างเหล่านี้กันก่อน

The first one is, “I'm pissed.”

สิ่งแรกคือ "ฉันโกรธ"

This just means “I'm angry” “I'm upset”

So again, “I'm pissed.”

The next sentence is very similar.

Again, these two sentences have the same meaning.

They both mean ‘I'm very angry about something’

Please also notice that we have  to say 'pissed' in the past tense.

Okay, so we looked at a couple example sentences,

so just remember it's a very common  slang if you use it in America

Now ‘lag’ means to do something very slowly, or to be very slow, okay.

So the word ‘lag’ is up here on the board. Now, the pronunciation - it's hard I know

but you have to try and practice ‘lag’

That means my computer is slow.

Whenever we want to do  something especially at night,

She has to wash her hair or take  a shower then put on her makeup,

That's the section with the  white lines where you have to go

So in Korea there are very many cars and drivers

and they have to be careful not to  hit the people that are walking.

The pedestrians.

The pedestrian crosses the crosswalk.

Again, the crosswalk is where the white lines are.

You have to walk there if you  want to go to the other side.

The pedestrian crosses the crosswalk.

Now, everybody in Korea should know this word because it gets this way every summer in Korea,

Well not just in the summer, but also in some other seasons.

And that word that we're going  to learn today is ‘humid’.

So this word, you need to know it,

and you especially need to mention this word

when you describe Korea's  weather to any foreigners,

Well, what does ‘humid’ mean?

Well again, ‘humid’ is used to describe weather.

It means that it's very wet and hot, right?

You know what I mean.

So even my best friend, she comes to Korea every year from Southern California,

So let's look at the board for some examples on how to use the word.

Okay.

So that's the word I want to teach you today. ‘humid’

But there are some other  ways to say the same thing.

Instead of ‘humid’,

we can say a couple of other words.

For example, we can say, “Today is very muggy.”

Okay, ‘muggy’ means humid.

Again, hot and wet.

We can also say, “Today is very sticky.”

So ‘humid’, ‘muggy’, and ‘sticky’ all have the same meaning when you're describing

Now, I told you that where I'm from it's not humid, it's hot, but it's not humid,

This slang word is actually  from Northern California,

จริงๆ แล้วคำสแลงนี้มาจากแคลิฟอร์เนียตอนเหนือ

in areas like San Francisco,  San Jose, and Oakland.

ในพื้นที่อย่างซานฟรานซิสโก ซานโฮเซ และโอ๊คแลนด์

And this word is the slang word ‘hella’.

และนี่ word คือคำสแลง 'hella'

And it actually has two different meanings.

So let's look at how it's used in some sentences.

Okay, so here's the first example sentence.

hmm… How is ‘hella’ used?

It's used to mean the word  ‘really’ or ‘very’, right?

“This room is very hot.”

or “This room is really hot.”

In that case, we can say,  “This room is hella hot.”

So that's the first meaning.

Let's move on to the second meaning.

That doesn't match the word ‘really’, right?

'hella' ใช้หมายถึงมี 'มาก'

or there's ‘many’ things, right?

หรือมี 'หลายอย่าง' ใช่ไหม?

So in this case, instead of saying,  “There's a lot of food at home,”

ดังนั้นในกรณีนี้ แทนที่จะพูดว่า “ที่บ้านมีอาหารมากมาย”

we can say, “There's hella food at home.”

เรากลับพูดว่า “ที่บ้านมีอาหารเฮลล่า”

So hurry and go home and eat some of that food.

รีบกลับบ้านไปกินข้าวซะ

Now under ‘hella’, I've written the word ‘hecka’.

ตอนนี้ภายใต้ 'hella' ฉันเขียนคำว่า 'hecka'

And that's because some people feel uncomfortable using the word ‘hella’, right?

และนั่นเป็นเพราะว่าบางคนรู้สึกอึดอัดกับการใช้คำว่า 'เฮลล่า' ใช่ไหมล่ะ?

Because ‘hella’ has the word ‘hell’, right?

เพราะ 'เฮลล่า' มีคำว่า 'นรก' ใช่ไหมล่ะ?

And ‘hell’ can sometimes be used to express an emotion that's negative or very strong, right?

และ 'นรก' บางทีก็ใช้เพื่อแสดงอารมณ์เชิงลบหรือรุนแรงมากได้ใช่ไหมคะ?

And in that case, people use ‘heck’, right?

แล้วในกรณีนั้นคนใช้คำว่า 'ห่า' ใช่ไหมล่ะ?

So again, instead of ‘hella’  some people say ‘hecka’.

อีกครั้ง แทนที่จะเป็น 'hella' บางคนกลับพูดว่า 'hecka'

mm-hmm

So we can say, “There's hecka food at home.”

อืม อืม

เราก็พูดได้เลยว่า “ที่บ้านมีของกินเพียบเลย”

Again, it means the same thing  - there's a lot of food at home.

มันหมายถึงสิ่งเดียวกันอีกครั้ง - ที่บ้านมีอาหารมากมาย

“There's hecka food at home.”

“ที่บ้านก็มีของกินนะ”

But if you don't want to use  ‘hella’, you can use this one.

แต่ถ้าไม่อยากใช้ 'hella' ก็ใช้อันนี้ได้เลย

And in the same way you can use ‘hecka’ to  substitute ‘hella’ in the first sentence as well.

ในทำนองเดียวกัน คุณสามารถใช้ 'hecka' แทน 'hella' ในประโยคแรกได้เช่นกัน

“This room is hecka hot.” Right?

“ห้องนี้ร้อนจังเลย” ขวา?

“This room is hecka hot.”

“ห้องนี้ร้อนจังเลย”

It's very hot in here but I  don't want to say ‘hella’.

ที่นี่ร้อนมากแต่ไม่อยากพูดว่าเฮลล่า

But remember, again, this slang word ‘hella’ and ‘hecka’ is actually from Northern California,

แต่อย่าลืมอีกครั้งว่าคำสแลงนี้ 'hella' และ 'hecka' จริงๆ แล้วมาจากแคลิฟอร์เนียตอนเหนือ

so you might not hear it

ดังนั้นคุณอาจไม่ได้ยิน

or people might not understand what you mean 

หรือคนอื่นอาจไม่เข้าใจว่าคุณหมายถึงอะไร

if you use it in other places  such as New York or the UK.

หากคุณใช้คำนี้ในสถานที่อื่น เช่น นิวยอร์ก หรือสหราชอาณาจักร

So keep that in mind.

ดังนั้นจงจำไว้เสมอ

Okay so let's look at a couple examples sentences.

เอาล่ะ เรามาดูประโยคตัวอย่างสองสามประโยคกัน

“This pizza is hella good.”

“พิซซ่าอันนี้อร่อยมาก”

“This pizza is hella good.”

“พิซซ่าอันนี้อร่อยมาก”

“You look hella pretty.”

“คุณดูสวยมาก”

“You look hella pretty.”

“คุณดูสวยมาก”

“Your hair is hecka long.”

“ผมของคุณยาวมาก”

“Your hair is hecka long.”

“ผมของคุณยาวมาก”

“I have hella things to do.”

“ฉันมีเรื่องต้องทำมากมาย”

“I have hella things to do.”

“ฉันมีเรื่องต้องทำมากมาย”

Okay, so those are the ways that we can use  ‘hella’ or ‘hecka’ in our everyday speech.

But I want to remind you guys, one more time,

Some hip-hop artists from that area,

such as e-40, and the Federation,  use the slang word in their music.

They use ‘hella’ mostly.

So next time you decide to  listen to some of their music,

And in this video, I want to talk about a very important vocabulary word

และในวิดีโอนี้ ฉันอยากจะพูดถึงคำศัพท์ที่สำคัญมาก

for all Koreans to know, okay.

ที่คนเกาหลีทุกคนต้องรู้ โอเค

And that word is ‘monsoon season’.

และคำนั้นก็คือ 'ฤดูมรสุม'

What is ‘monsoon season’?

'ฤดูมรสุม' คืออะไร?

Well, every summer  

คือว่าทุกฤดูร้อน

many foreigners come and they're surprised  by how much rain there is, right?

จะมีชาวต่างชาติมามากมายและแปลกใจว่าฝนตกหนักมากใช่ไหม?

In the summer, in Korea, for about one month,

ในฤดูร้อน ที่เกาหลี ประมาณหนึ่งเดือน

usually in July, there's a lot of rain, okay.

ปกติในเดือนกรกฎาคม ฝนจะตกเยอะมาก โอเค

And in English we call that the ‘monsoon season’.

และในภาษาอังกฤษเราเรียกว่า 'ฤดูมรสุม'

So it's very important for  Koreans to have a good umbrella.

ดังนั้นคนเกาหลีจะต้องมีร่มที่ดีจึงเป็นสิ่งสำคัญมาก

Maybe some rain boots, right?

อาจจะเป็นรองเท้าบูทกันฝนใช่ไหม?

But also it can cause some problems  for some businesses and homes  

แต่ยังอาจทำให้เกิดปัญหากับธุรกิจและบ้านบางหลังได้

if there's too much rain and flooding, right?

หากมีฝนตกและน้ำท่วมมากเกินไปใช่ไหม?

So if you see a foreigner, and  they ask about summer in Korea,

ดังนั้นหากคุณเห็นชาวต่างชาติและพวกเขาถามเกี่ยวกับฤดูร้อนในเกาหลี

it's very important that you remember  that you tell them about monsoon season.

มันสำคัญมากที่คุณจะต้องจำไว้ว่าคุณต้องบอกพวกเขาเกี่ยวกับฤดูมรสุม

Okay so let's look on the board  and look at this example sentence.

เอาล่ะ เรามาดูบนกระดานแล้วดูประโยคตัวอย่างนี้กัน

“The monsoon season in Korea begins in summer.”

“ฤดูมรสุมในเกาหลีเริ่มต้นในฤดูร้อน”

Right? I just talked about that.

ขวา? ฉันเพิ่งพูดคุยเกี่ยวกับเรื่องนั้น

Again, “The monsoon…”

“มรสุม…”

Let's pronounce it together.

เรามาออกเสียงพร้อมกันเลย

‘monsoon’

'มรสุม'

‘monsoon’

'มรสุม'

So “The monsoon season in Korea begins in summer.”

ดังนั้น “ฤดูมรสุมในเกาหลีเริ่มต้นในฤดูร้อน”

And as we said, the monsoon  season lasts for about one month,

อย่างที่เราบอกไปว่าฤดูมรสุมกินเวลาประมาณหนึ่งเดือน

and there's lots of rain  during the monsoon season.

และจะมีฝนตกมากในช่วงฤดูมรสุม

Okay, let's look at some more examples together.

Let's look at these examples.

“It's very humid during the monsoon season.” “It's very humid during the monsoon season.”

“The monsoon season is coming.”

“ฤดูมรสุมกำลังจะมาถึง”

“I need to buy a new umbrella  for the monsoon season.”

Okay so in this video we learned about  the vocabulary word ‘monsoon season’.

เอาล่ะ ในวิดีโอนี้ เราได้เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับคำศัพท์ 'ฤดูมรสุม' แล้ว

Remember, it's a time in Korea when there's a  lot of rain and it's very hot and sticky, right?

จำได้ไหมว่าเป็นช่วงที่เกาหลีฝนตกหนักและร้อนและเหนียวมากใช่ไหมคะ?

Now, in Southern California where I'm from,

ตอนนี้ในแคลิฟอร์เนียตอนใต้ที่ฉัน

there is no monsoon season.

อยู่ ไม่มีฤดูมรสุม

We get a little bit of rain in the winter  time which is very different from Korea.

หน้าหนาวจะมีฝนตกเล็กน้อยซึ่งต่างจากเกาหลีมาก

But again, nothing like the rain we see here.

แต่อีกครั้ง ไม่มีอะไรเหมือนกับฝนที่เราเห็นที่นี่

Okay so that is something that  I'm still trying to get used to.

โอเค นั่นเป็นสิ่งที่ฉันยังคงพยายามทำความคุ้นเคยอยู่

Okay, so again, the word we  learned is ‘monsoon season’.
