I'm Esther and in this video I'm going to teach you how to ask someone for permission

Okay so before I teach you that,

let's first talk about what permission means.

When you want to ask someone if it's okay to do something, you're asking for permission.

Okay again, you want to do something, you don't know if it's okay, so you ask someone.

For example, maybe you want to borrow something.

Then you should ask someone.

If you just take it that's stealing, right?

So you have to ask.

So there are three ways to ask for permission in English.

The first way is to say, "Can I...?" "Can I...?" Okay.

The second way is "Could I...?" "Could I...?"

రెండవ మార్గం "నేను చేయగలనా ...?" "నేను చేయగలనా...?"

And the third way is, "May I...?" "May I...?" Okay.

So 'can I', 'could I', and 'may I' are all good

ways to ask for permission.

But the third one, 'may I', is more polite. Okay.

So if you want to ask somebody who has more power,

maybe your parents, may be your teacher,

Maybe even to somebody that you don't know very well,

it's better to say may I because again it's more polite.

So let's look at these examples.

Okay so I've written 'can I', 'could I', and 'may I'

Remember, after these three, you have to say a verb.

Okay so let's look at the verbs.

Okay so I know I went through that a little bit quickly but

Let's try that a little bit faster.

Now remember, you can also say 'could I' and 'may I'.

For example, if you're walking through a department store,

Maybe you like someone you met them and you like them

and you want to see them again next time,

Let's try a couple with 'could'.

"Could I call you later?"

"నేను మీకు తర్వాత కాల్ చేయవచ్చా?"

Again, remember, you can use all three, but we're doing 'could'.

"Could I call you later?"

Okay. You usually borrow money from a friend or somebody that you know,

so that's why it's better to say maybe 'can I' or 'could I'.

Okay.

You want to leave, so you're asking if it's okay.

Okay and remember 'may I' is polite okay

you want to say that to someone who's a little bit more important,

Again you would use 'may I'.

Maybe you called his office, okay, so you say,

This one is maybe if you're asking a teacher.

If you want to be polite, you should say,

And I'm sure the teacher will like that better because you're being polite.

Let’s first start with 'like and like to'

First, let's look at the board for some examples.

The next one is, 'I like you.'

You is a person.

మీరు ఒక వ్యక్తి.

I can say, 'I like him.'

ఆయనంటే నాకు ఇష్టం’ అని చెప్పగలను.

'I like Sally.'

'నాకు సాలీ అంటే ఇష్టం.'

Right?

I can say a person.

సరియైనదా?

నేను ఒక వ్యక్తిని చెప్పగలను.

And, 'I like dogs.'

మరియు, 'నాకు కుక్కలంటే ఇష్టం.'

That's another thing.

I like dogs or for me,  personally, I like cats as well.

Okay, so let's first try these  examples a little bit faster.

The second example is,

Now, we put a 'to' here.

Now, మేము ఇక్కడ 'to'ని ఉంచాము.

That means after, I have to put an activity.

అంటే తర్వాత, నేను ఒక యాక్టివిటీ పెట్టాలి.

Right? An activity.

సరియైనదా? ఒక కార్యాచరణ.

For example, 'I like to dance.'

ఉదాహరణకు, 'నాకు నాట్యం అంటే ఇష్టం.'

'I like to dance.'

'నాకు నాట్యం చెయ్యడం ఇష్టం.'

But what I want you listen for is that 'to' becomes just like a 'tuh!'

కానీ నేను మీరు వినాలనుకుంటున్నది ఏమిటంటే 'టు' అనేది 'తుహ్!'

Now, It's ok to say, 'I like to dance.'

ఇప్పుడు 'నాకు డ్యాన్స్‌ అంటే ఇష్టం' అని చెప్పడం ఓకే.

'I like to dance'.

'నాకు నాట్యం చెయ్యడం ఇష్టం'.

That's okay but most native English speakers,

అది సరే కానీ చాలా మంది స్థానిక ఇంగ్లీష్ మాట్లాడేవారు,

will kind of get rid of the 'o' and say,

'o'ని వదిలించుకుని,

'I like to dance.'

'నాకు నృత్యం చేయడం ఇష్టం' అని చెబుతారు.

'I like to dance.'

'నాకు నాట్యం చెయ్యడం ఇష్టం.'

Here is the next one,

ఇదిగో తదుపరిది,

'I like to sing.'

'నాకు పాడటం ఇష్టం.'

'I like to sing.'

'నాకు పాడటం ఇష్టం.'

'I like to study.'

'చదవడానికి నేను ఇష్టపడతాను.'

'I like to shop.'

'నాకు షాపింగ్ చేయడం ఇష్టం.'

Okay.

సరే.

So, these are all personally things that I like to do.

కాబట్టి, ఇవన్నీ నేను వ్యక్తిగతంగా చేయాలనుకుంటున్నాను.

Actually, I love to them.

నిజానికి, నేను వారిని ప్రేమిస్తున్నాను.

But 'like to' and 'like' is a little more common.

Okay.

So let's practice these  four examples one more time.

Okay, let's look at some more examples together.

Okay, so now we're going to  move on to the expression,

సరే, ఇప్పుడు మనం 'నాకు ఇష్టం లేదు'

'I don’t like'

మరియు 'నాకు ఇష్టం లేదు' అనే

and 'I don’t like to.'

వ్యక్తీకరణకు వెళ్లబోతున్నాం

Okay.

. సరే.

So, if you look at the board,

కాబట్టి, మీరు బోర్డు చూస్తే,

I've changed 'I like' to 'I don’t like'.

నేను 'నా ఇష్టం' 'నాకు ఇష్టం లేదు' అని మార్చాను.

Now, it’s the same.

At the end, I have to say a person, a place or thing.

So, let’s look at them together.

We can say 'I hate' but 'I  don’t like' is more common.

కుడి.

మనం 'ఐ హేట్' అని చెప్పవచ్చు కానీ 'నాకు ఇష్టం లేదు' అనేది సర్వసాధారణం.

I don’t like math.

నాకు గణితం నచ్చదు.

Again a little faster.

మళ్ళీ కొంచెం వేగంగా.

I don’t like math.

నాకు గణితం నచ్చదు.

The next one is,

తరువాతిది,

I don’t like him.

నేను అతనిని ఇష్టపడను.

And the last one,

Right, a lot of women don’t like snakes.

నిజమే, చాలా మంది మహిళలు పాములను ఇష్టపడరు.

I don’t like snakes.

నాకు పాములంటే ఇష్టం ఉండదు.

I don’t like snakes.

నాకు పాములంటే ఇష్టం ఉండదు.

Okay.

సరే.

The second example is,

రెండవ ఉదాహరణ,

'I don’t like to'

'నాకు ఇష్టం లేదు'

'I don’t like to'

'నాకు ఇష్టం లేదు'

Remember, at the end of this,  we have to put an action,

గుర్తుంచుకోండి, దీని చివరలో, మనం చేసే ఏదో ఒక చర్యను ఉంచాలి . కాబట్టి,

something that we do, right.

నేను పరుగెత్తడం ఇష్టం లేదని

So, we can say,

చెప్పగలం .

I don’t like to run.

నాకు పరుగెత్తడం ఇష్టం లేదు.

I don’t like to run.

గుర్తుంచుకోండి, మళ్ళీ 'to'.

Remember, again the ‘to’.

మీరు 'నాకు ఇష్టం లేదు'

You can say, ‘I don’t like to’

లేదా 'నాకు ఇష్టం లేదు'

or ‘I don’t like to’.

అని చెప్పవచ్చు .

I don’t like to run.

నాకు పరుగెత్తడం ఇష్టం లేదు.

Let's try the next one.

తదుపరి దానిని ప్రయత్నిద్దాం.

Okay.

After that,

And the last one is,

It can get a little bit scary, right.

And in this video, we’re going to talk about a slang word that is “What’s up?”

Okay, so in this video, we learned that when  we want to describe the cost of something,

For me, I think some brands like  H&M and Forever 21 are affordable.

That's the correct way to say it.

Another way that you can say is,

Let's look at it again.

Now, both of these ways are okay.

And they're both correct and right,

Alright, now, in the beginning  of the video, I taught you

Now, hit on doesn't mean to hit.

Hit means you punch someone or you use your hand to hurt someone.

The first one is, “I'm pissed.”

This just means “I'm angry” “I'm upset”

So again, “I'm pissed.”

The next sentence is very similar.

Again, these two sentences have the same meaning.

They both mean ‘I'm very angry about something’

Please also notice that we have  to say 'pissed' in the past tense.

We have to say it with -ed.

మేము దానిని -ed తో చెప్పాలి.

If you say "I'm piss" without the -ed,

మీరు -ed లేకుండా "ఐయామ్ పిస్" అని చెబితే,

it actually has a different meaning.

వాస్తవానికి దానికి వేరే అర్థం ఉంటుంది.

So again, you must say “I'm pissed”

or “I'm pissed off” to show that you're angry.

Now ‘lag’ means to do something very slowly, or to be very slow, okay.

So the word ‘lag’ is up here on the board. Now, the pronunciation - it's hard I know

The next one is a very common problem. “My computer is lagging.”

తదుపరిది చాలా సాధారణ సమస్య. "నా కంప్యూటర్ వెనుకబడి ఉంది."

“My computer is lagging.”

"నా కంప్యూటర్ వెనుకబడి ఉంది."

That means my computer is slow.

అంటే నా కంప్యూటర్ నెమ్మదిగా ఉంది.

It's slow. I'm trying to do something  

ఇది నెమ్మదిగా ఉంది. నేను ఏదో చేయాలని ప్రయత్నిస్తున్నాను

but it's lagging. It's slow.

And the last one is,

You might hear this a lot especially  from people who are travelling.

to describe an action that is very very slow. Now, my best friend is someone who lags a lot.

Whenever we want to do  something especially at night,

she takes almost two hours to get ready.

And in this video, I'm going to  talk about the word ‘pedestrian’.

So that's the first meaning.

Let's move on to the second meaning.

And here's another example sentence.

“There's hella food at home.”

That doesn't match the word ‘really’, right?

Let's look. There's really food at home.

చూద్దాం. ఇంట్లో నిజంగా ఆహారం ఉంది.

It doesn't make sense actually.  In the second sentence,

‘hella’ is used to mean there's ‘a lot of’

'హెల్లా' అంటే 'చాలా'

or there's ‘many’ things, right?

So in this case, instead of saying,  “There's a lot of food at home,”

And that's because some people feel uncomfortable using the word ‘hella’, right?
