We Palauans have been here for over 3,000 years,

Palau is home to just 20,000 people,

But our home is now threatened by climate change.

The climate crisis is causing sea levels to rise,

Our precious soil is being washed away by increased rain,

and in other seasons,

new droughts are having a terrible impact on our fragile ecosystems.

We warmly welcome visitors who come to our beautiful country every year.

We want them to enjoy Palau,

but we need their help to protect our precious home

But visitors don't always know how to protect Palau.

They don't understand

That's why we introduced the Palau Pledge.

When visitors come to Palau,

they must all sign an environmental pledge,

ပတ်ဝန်းကျင်ဆိုင်ရာ ကတိကဝတ်လက်မှတ်ထိုးရမယ်။

which is stamped into their passport as their visa.

The pledge is a promise to the children of Palau

to preserve and respect our home, our culture and heritage.

စောင့်ရှောက်မယ်လို့ ပေးသော ကတိဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

We also hope that when they return home,

အိမ်ပြန်ကြတဲ့အခါလည်း

visitors will share the idea of the pledge

အိမ်မှာနဲ့ သူတို့ရဲ့ ရပ်ရွာထဲမှာ

by practicing it at home and in their community.

ကတိအကြောင်း စိတ်ကူးကို ကျင့်သုံးရင်း ဒါကို မျှဝေကြလိမ့်မယ်။

Through our traditional chants,

ကျွန်မတို့ ရိုးရာအရ

our elders have passed on

လူကြီးတွေ လက်ဆင့်ကမ်းတဲ့ စကားကတော့

that we do not inherit the land and waters from our ancestors.

“ရှေးလူတို့ထံမှ မြေနဲ့ ရေကို အမွေမရရှိခဲ့ပါ။

We borrow them from our children.

ကလေးများထံမှ ငှားယူသုံ:ခြင်းသာ ဖြစ်ပါသည်။”

That's what the Palau Pledge is about.

Palau Pledge က အဲဒီအကြောင်းကို ရေးထားတာပါ။

And here it is.

ဒီမှာပါ၊

“Children of Palau, I take this pledge as your guest

အလို၊ Palau ကလေးငယ်များ၊ မင်းရဲ့ဧည့်သည်အဖြစ်

to preserve and protect your beautiful and unique island home.

လှပထူးခြားသောကျွန်းနေအိမ်ကို ထိန်းသိမ်ဖို့ ငါ ကတိပြုသည်။

I vow to tread lightly, act kindly and explore mindfully.

ကြင်ကြင်နာနာ ပြုမူပြီး သတိဖြင့် စူးစမ်းမယ်လို့ ကတိပြုပါသည်။

I shall not take what is not given.

I shall not harm what does not harm me.
