I'd like to tell you the story

Pranitha, Shaheen and Anjali.

Pranitha's mother was a woman in prostitution,

a prostituted person.

She got infected with HIV,

and towards the end of her life,

All that we know that hundreds of men

In this country, and across the globe,

are sold into sexual slavery.

But that's not the only purpose that human beings are sold for.

They are sold in the name of adoption.

I work on the issue of commercial sexual exploitation.

My own journey to work with these children

started as a teenager.

I was 15 when I was gang-raped by eight men.

I don't remember the rape part of it so much

as much as the anger part of it.

Yes, there were eight men who defiled me, raped me,

but that didn't go into my consciousness.

I never felt like a victim, then or now.

But what lingered from then till now -- I am 40 today --

Right from the age of 15,

Where does their journey begin?

Most of them come from very optionless families,

not just poor.

You have even the middle class sometimes getting trafficked.

I had this I.S. officer's daughter,

who is 14 years old, studying in ninth standard,

who was raped chatting with one individual,

I have hundreds and thousands of stories of very very well-to-do families,

resist being inducted into prostitution.

Some pay the price for it.

They're killed; we don't even hear about them.

These are men who buy you for an hour, for a day,

and use you, throw you.

Each of the girls that I have rescued --

I have rescued more than 3,200 girls --

each of them tell me one story in common ...

We are living among those men: they're our brothers, fathers,

uncles, cousins, all around us.

మన అంకుల్సు, మన కజిన్స్ , వీరంతా మన చుట్టూ ఉన్నవాళ్ళే

And we are silent about them.

మనం వీరి విషయానికోచ్చేటప్పటికి నిశబ్దం వహిస్తాం

We think it is easy money.

అది తేలికగా వచ్చే డబ్బుగా కనిపిస్తుంది

We think it is shortcut.

దొడ్డిదారితో సంపాదించినదిగా అనిపిస్తుంది

We think the person likes to do what she's doing.

But the extra bonuses that she gets

is various infections, sexually transmitted infections,

HIV, AIDS, syphilis, gonorrhea, you name it,

substance abuse, drugs, everything under the sun.

And one day she gives up on you and me,

ఒక సమయానికి ఇంక, ఆమె మిమ్మల్ని , నన్ను పట్టించుకోదు

because we have no options for her.

ఎందుకంటే మన దగ్గర ఆమెకు కోరి ఎన్నుకోగల్గేవి ఎమీ లేవు

And therefore she starts normalizing this exploitation.

She believes, "Yes, this is it, this is what my destiny is about."

And this is normal, to get raped by 100 men a day.

And it's abnormal to live in a shelter.

It's abnormal to get rehabilitated.

It's in that context that I work.

It's in that context that I rescue children.

ఆ పరిస్థితుల నుంచే నేను పిల్లలను రక్షిస్తాను

I've rescued children as young as three years,

నేను రక్షించిన పిల్లలలో మూడు సంవత్సరాల చిన్న పిల్లలు కూడా ఉన్నారు

and I've rescued women as old as 40 years.

ఇంక నేను రక్షించిన వాళ్ళలో నలభై సంవత్సరాల ఆడవారు కూడా ఉన్నారు

When I rescued them, one of the biggest challenges I had

was where do I begin.

Because I had lots of them

Because what we did with these girls

is to understand their potential.

You see a girl here who is trained as a welder.

She works for a very big company,

She earns around 12,000 rupees.

She is an illiterate girl,

trained, skilled as a welder.

Why welding and why not computers?

We felt, one of the things that these girls had

They did not have any pardas inside their body,

they've crossed the barrier of it.

And therefore they could fight in a male-dominated world,

very easily, and not feel very shy about it.

We have trained girls as carpenters,

as masons,

as security guards, as cab drivers.

కొంత మందిని సెక్యూరిటీ గార్డ్లులుగా , కారు డ్రైవర్లుగా ట్రైనింగ్ ఇచ్చాము

And each one of them are excelling

ప్రతి ఒక్కరు అత్యుత్తమంగా రాణిస్తూ

in their chosen field,

వారు ఎన్నుకున్న రంగంలో

gaining confidence, restoring dignity,

ఆత్మవిశ్వాసాన్ని పెంపొందించుకుంటూ , వారి మర్యాదను పునరుద్దరించుకుంటూ

and building hopes in their own lives.

వారి జీవితాలలో ఆశలకు కొత్త జీవాలు నింపుకుంటున్నారు

These girls are also working in big construction companies

ఈ అమ్మాయలు పెద్ద కట్టడాల కంపెనీలలో కూడా పనిచేస్తున్నారు

like Ram-ki construction, as masons, full-time masons.

రామ్కికస్ట్రక్షన్ కంపెనీ లో మేస్త్రిలుగా( మేసన్) , ఫుల్ టైం మేస్త్రిలుగా పనిచేస్తున్నారు

What has been my challenge?

దీనిలో నా సవాలు ఏమిటి ?

My challenge has not been the traffickers who beat me up.

ఈ సెక్స్ వ్యాపారం చేయిస్తూ నన్ను కొట్టే వాళ్ళు కూడా నాకు సవాలు కాదు

I've been beaten up more than 14 times in my life.

ఇప్పటికి నన్ను14 సార్లు కంటే ఎక్కువ సార్లే కొట్టారు

I can't hear from my right ear.

నా కుడి చెవితో ఏమి వినలేను

I've lost a staff of mine who was murdered

while on a rescue.

My biggest challenge

so that she can look after my mother?"

And there is a long pause.

And then she says, "Not one of our girls."

It's very fashionable to talk about human trafficking,

It's very nice for discussion, discourse,

But it is not nice to bring them to our homes.

కాని మన ఇంటికి తెచ్చుకోవటానికి మాత్రం బాగోదు

It's not nice to give them employment in our factories, our companies.

వారికి మన ఫ్యాక్టరీలలో, కంపెనీలలో ఉద్యోగాలు ఇవ్వటం బాగోదు

It's not nice for our children to study with their children.

వారి పిల్లలతో మన పిల్లలని చదివించటం నచ్చదు

There it ends.

That's my biggest challenge.

Many times when I talk to people,

I keep telling them one thing:

don't tell me hundred ways

how you cannot respond to this problem.

Can you ply your mind for that one way

that you can respond to the problem?

I'm not asking you all to become Mahatma Gandhis

నేను మీరందరినీ మహాత్మా గాంధీలు

or Martin Luther Kings, or Medha Patkars,

మార్టిన్ లుథుర్ కింగ్లు , మేధా పాట్కర్లు

or something like that.

లేక పొతే అలాంటిదేదో అవ్వమని అడగట్లేదు .

I'm asking you, in your limited world,

నేను అడుగుతున్నాను, మీ చిన్న ప్రపంచంలో మీరు చెయ్యగలిగినంత

can you open your minds? Can you open your hearts?

మీరు మీలోని అంతః చేతనాన్ని మేల్కొల్పగలరా? మీ మనస్సులని విప్పగలరా ?

Can you just encompass these people too?

మీ సమూహంలో వీరిని కూడా కలుపుకోగలరా?

Because they are also a part of us.

ఎందుకంటే వీరు కూడా మనలో భాగమే .

They are also part of this world.

వీరంతా ఈ ప్రపంచం లో భాగమే ..

I'm asking you, for these children,

ఈ పిల్లల కోసం నేను మిమ్మల్ని అడుగుతున్నాను

whose faces you see, they're no more.

చూడాలనుకున్నా ఇప్పుడు ఈ ముఖాలు ఇంక చూడలేరు

They died of AIDS last year.

వీరంతా ఎయిడ్స్ వ్యాధి తో క్రిందటి సంవత్సరం మరణించారు

I'm asking you to help them,

వీరికి సహాయం చెయ్యమని నేను అడుగుతున్నాను

accept as human beings --

వారిని సాటి మనుషులుగా అంగీకరించండి

not as philanthropy, not as charity,

వారి సంక్షేమం కోసం కాదు, దానం ధర్మంగా కాదు

but as human beings who deserve all our support.

సాటి మనుషులనే భావం తో మనం వారిని ఆదరించాలి

I'm asking you this because no child, no human being,

నేనిలా ఎందుకడుగుతున్నానంటే, ఏ చిన్నారైనా , ఏ మనిషైనా

deserves what these children have gone through.

ఈ చిన్నపిల్లలు అనుభవించిన పరిస్థితి లోకి నేట్టివేయబడకూడదు
