မကြာခဏ ကျွန်မ အမေးခံရတာက

why I do art,

ဘာလို့ ကျွန်မ အနုပညာကို လုပ်နေတာလဲ၊

what do I want to say with my art photography,

ကျွန်မရဲ့ အနုပညာဓာတ်ပုံနဲ့ ကျွန်မ ဘာကို ပြောချင်တာလဲနဲ့

and what is the use of it?

ဒါရဲ့ အသုံးကျမှုက ဘာလဲလို့ပါ။

Once in a while I start to worry

တစ်ခါတစ်ခါ စပူပန်မိတာက

how to actually measure the impact from the art

အနုပညာကနေ သက်ရောက်မှုကို တကယ်တမ်း တိုင်းတာပုံကိုပါ။

like we do with medicine or technology,

ရလဒ်တွေကို မြင်ပြီး တွက်ချက်နိုင်တဲ့

where we can see the results and calculate it.

ဆေးပညာနဲ့ နည်းပညာတွေကို ကျွန်မတို့ တိုင်းကြသလိုပေါ့။

Then I would finally be able to explain to my mother my art

ဒါနဲ့ နောက်ဆုံးတော့ အမေ့ကို ကျွန်မရဲ့ အနုပညာအကြောင်း

with real numbers.

တကယ့် ကိန်းတွေနဲ့ ရှင်းပြနိုင်လိမ့်မယ်ပေါ့။

But my art is so far from metrics,

ဒါပေမဲ့ ကျွန်မရဲ့ အနုပညာက မက်ထရစ်တွေနဲ့ ဝေးကွာလွန်းတဲ့အပြင်

and moreover, my photography is widely exposing the theme of escapism.

ကျွန်မရဲ့ ဓာတ်ပုံပညာက ဒိဋ္ဌဓမ္မ လွန်မြောက် မှုရဲ့ အာဘော်ကို ကျယ်ပြန့်စွာ ဖော်ပြနေတယ်။

My theory is that all of us

ကျွန်မရဲ့ သီအိုရိက ကျွန်မတို့အားလုံးဟာ

struggle sometimes to escape

ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ ပကတိရှိမှုကို ဆန်းစစ်ဖို့

in order to analyze our reality,

ဒါကို သဘောကျဖို့ (သို့) ပြောင်းလဲဖို့အတွက် တစ်ခါတစ်လေ

appreciate it or change.

လွတ်မြောက်ဖို့ ရုန်းကန်တယ်ဆိုတာပါ။

I don't work with daily life as it is,

and I'm not a documentary photographer

in the common sense.

But I am a documentary photographer

ဒါပေမဲ့ ကွဲပြားတဲ့ သဘောတစ်ခုနဲ့

in a different sense.

မှတ်တမ်းတင် ဓာတ်ပုံသမားပါ။

I document dreams.

အိပ်မက်တွေကို မှတ်တမ်းတင်တယ်။

I work with daily life as it could be,

နေ့စဉ်ဘဝနဲ့ ဖြစ်နိုင်သလောက်၊ ကျွန်မ စိတ်ကူးတဲ့အတိုင်း

as I imagine it.

တွဲလုပ်တယ်။

I am a daydreamer, but at the same time I love things that are authentic

ကျွန်မဟာ စိတ်ကူးယဉ်သမားဆိုပေမဲ့ တစ်ချိန် တည်းမှာ အစစ်အမှန် အရာတွေကိုချစ်ပြီး

and deal with our innermost nature,

ကျွန်မ ဘယ်တော့မှ လွတ်မြောက်ချင်စိတ်ရှိမှာမဟုတ်တဲ့

which I would never want to escape from.

အတွင်းကျကျ သဘာဝနဲ့လည်း ပတ်သက်ပါတယ်။

I adore complicated personalities,

ရှုပ်ထွေးတဲ့ ပင်ကိုယ်စရိုက်တွေ နှစ်သက်ပြီး

and real life inspires me to create my images.

တကယ့်ဘဝက ကျွန်မရဲ့ ရုပ်ပုံတွေ ဖန်တီးဖို့ ကျွန်မကို စေ့ဆော်ပေးတယ်။

Real life inspires our escape,

တကယ့်ဘဝက ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ လွတ်မြောက်မှုကို စေ့ဆော်ပေးပြီး

and sometimes that escape is very needed.

တစ်ခါတစ်လေမှာ လွတ်မြောက်မှုက အရမ်းလိုအပ်ပါတယ်။

I believe heroes are not created easily,

လူစွမ်းကောင်းတွေကို လွယ်လွယ် ဖန်တီးမရနိုင်ဘူးလို့ ယုံကြည်ပြီး

and I choose to work with individuals

ရှင်ကျန်သူတွေဖြစ်ပြီး

who are survivors

အမြဲတမ်း အရောင်မပြည့်ဝတဲ့

and facing everyday routines

နေ့စဉ် ဖြစ်ရိုးဖြစ်ဉ်တွေကို ရင်ဆိုင်နေတဲ့

that are not always full of color,

တစ်ဦးချင်းတွေနဲ့တွဲလုပ်ဖို့ ကျွန်မရွေးချယ်တယ်။

people who are on their way to a better life,

ပိုကောင်းတဲ့ ဘဝတစ်ခုအတွက် လမ်းကြောင်းပေါ်မှာရှိနေပြီး

fighting against life circumstances.

အခြေအနေတွေကို ဆန့်ကျင် တိုက်ခိုက်နေသူတွေပါ။

Why do I choose people like that for my models?

ဒီလိုလူတွေကို ကျွန်မရဲ့ ကိုယ်ဟန်ပြသူတွေ အဖြစ် ဘာကြောင့် ရွေးတာလဲ။

Because I've been in that position myself,

အကြောင်းက ဒီနေရာကို ကျွန်မကိုယ်တိုင် ရောက်ဖူးလို့ပါ၊

when I had to learn how to survive in real life.

တကယ့်ဘဝမှာ ရှည်သန်နည်းကို ကျွန်မ လေ့လာဖို့လိုခဲ့စဉ်က

I was a student living abroad in London.

လန်ဒန်မှာ နိုင်ငံခြားတွင် နေတဲ့ ကျောင်းသားဖြစ်ခဲ့တယ်။

I was working at two places at the same time as a waitress.

တစ်ချိန်တည်းမှာ စားပွဲထိုးအဖြစ် နေရာနှစ်ခုမှာ အလုပ်လုပ်နေခဲ့တယ်။

Obviously that wasn't my dream job,

ဒါက ကျွန်မရဲ့ စိတ်ကူးထားတဲ့ အလုပ်မဟုတ်တာ ရှင်းပါတယ်၊

but I decided to play a game

ဒါပေမဲ့ ရုပ်ရှင်ကားတစ်ကားမှာ ပါဝင်တယ်လို့

where I imagined that I am taking a role in a film,

စိတ်ကူးကြည့်လို့ရတဲ့ ကစားပွဲတစ်ပွဲ ကစားဖို့ဆုံးဖြတ်ခဲ့တယ်။

and in the film I am a waitress,

ကိုယ်က အဲဒီရုပ်ရှင်မှာ စားပွဲထိုးဖြစ်ပြီး

and I need to act great.

ပြောင်မြောက်စွာ သရုပ်ဆောင်ဖို့လိုခဲ့တယ်။

I used to dye my hair and brows to gingerette,

ဆံပင်နဲ့ မျက်ခုံးမွေးတွေကို နီဝါရောင်ဆိုးခဲ့ဖူးပြီး

I changed my hair to curly perm,

ဆံပင်ကို ကောက်ပြီး ပုံပြောင်းလိုက်တယ်၊

I lost weight

ကိုယ်အလေးချိန်ချပြီး

and made myself believe

ကိုယ်ဟာ ဒီရုပ်ရှင်မှာ သရုပ်ဆောင်နေတဲ့

I am just a character acting in a film.

ဇာတ်ကောင်တစ်ကောင်လို့ ကိုယ့်ကိုယ်ကို အယုံသွင်းခဲ့တယ်။

That isn't forever,

ဒါက ထာဝရမဟုတ်ဘူး၊

that is all just temporary.

အားလုံးဟာ ယာယီသက်သက်ပါ။

That helped me a lot.

ဒါက အများကြီး ကူညီခဲ့တယ်။

It motivated me to change my life

ကျွန်မဘဝကို ပြောင်းလဲဖို့နဲ့ ကစားပွဲတစ်ခုလို

and take a hard time as a game.

ကြိုးစားဖို့ တွန်းအားပေးခဲ့ပါတယ်။

Now, as an artist,

အခု အနုပညာရှင်အနေနဲ့

I am creating different lives for my models

ကျွန်မရဲ့ ကိုယ်ဟန်ပြတွေအတွက် လက်တွေ့ဘဝထဲက အခြားသူတစ်ဦးရဲ့

in order to give them the experience of being someone else in reality.

အတွေ့အကြုံကို သူတို့ကိုပေးဖို့ ဘဝအမျိုးမျိုးကို ဖန်တီးနေတယ်။

Through the photographic process,

ဓာတ်ပုံဆိုင်ရာ လုပ်ငန်းစဉ်ကနေ

all of my models become like silent movie actors.

ကိုယ်ဟန်ပြအားလုံးဟာ အသံတိတ်ရုပ်ရှင် သရုပ်ဆောင်တွေလိုဖြစ်လာတယ်။

They are captured at the moment

အခြားသူတစ်ဦးလို့ဖြစ်ခြင်းကို

when they believe in being someone else entirely.

သူတို့ လုံးဝ ယုံကြည်မိတဲ့ ကာလတစ်ခုမှာ ဖမ်းစားခံရတယ်။

In order to create a new reality in its entirety,

အလုံးစုံ ဒိဌဖြစ်ရပ်အသစ်တစ်ခုကို ဖန်တီးဖို့

I physically create every single thing in my work,

ကျွန်မလက်ရာထဲမှာ တစ်ခုချင်းစီကို ကာယကံမြောက်ဖန်တီးပါတယ်၊

sometimes from outfits to the stage.

တစ်ခါတစ်ရံ အခမ်းအနားဝတ်စုံတွေကနေ စင်တွေအထိပါ။

Because I work with analogues,

အကြောင်းက ရုပ်ဝတ္ထုတွေနဲ့ လုပ်ကိုင်ကာ

and I don't make any digital manipulations to my photographs,

ဓာတ်ပုံတွေကို ဒစ်ဂျစ်တယ် ခြယ်လှယ်မှုတွေ မလုပ်လို့ပါ။

I need everything to take place in reality,

လက်တွေ့ဘဝမှာ နေရာယူဖို့ အရာတိုင်း လိုအပ်ပါတယ်၊

in spite of the fact that nowadays,

ဒီနေ့ခေတ်မှာ အတော်များများကို

digitally, you can create pretty much everything.

ဒစ်ဂျစ်တယ်နည်းနဲ့ ဖန်တီးနိုင်တယ်ဆိုပေမဲ့

I don't like this path.

ဒီလမ်းကြောင်းကို ကျွန်မ မကြိုက်ပါဘူး။

Even if that reaches perfection,

ဒါက အကောင်းဆုံးကို ရောက်တယ်ဆိုရင်တောင်

I see the beauty in authenticity of making,

ဖန်တီးခြင်းရဲ့ စစ်မှန်မှုထဲက အလှကို မြင်ပြီး

and that's impossible without flaws.

အနာအဆာ မကင်းပဲနဲ့တော့ မဖြစ်နိုင်ပါဘူး။

A digitally manipulated photograph

ဒစ်ဂျစ်တယ်နည်းအရ ခြယ်လှယ်ထားတဲ့ ဓာတ်ပုံတစ်ပုံဟာ

is not true for me.

ကျွန်မအတွက်တော့ အမှန်မဟုတ်ပါဘူး။

It doesn't capture anything real.

ဘာအစစ်အမှန်ကိုမှ မရိုက်ယူနိုင်ပါဘူး။

It's not experienced, not motivating.

မခံစားရဘူး၊ လှုံ့ဆော်းမပေးဘူး။

It's like, instead of going traveling,

ဒါက ခရီးသွားတာထက် အခြားသူတစ်ဦးရဲ့

you look at someone else's travel photographs.

ခရီးသွားဓာတ်ပုံတွေကို ကြည်တာမျိုးပါ။

What I find so exciting

အရမ်း စိတ်လှုပ်ဖို့ကောင်းတယ်လို့ မြင်မိတာက

is the ability to make people's dreams of being someone else a reality.

အခြားလူတစ်ဦးဖြစ်တဲ့ လူတွေရဲ့ အိပ်မက်တွေကို အစစ်အမှန်တစ်ခု ဖန်တီးပေးနိုင်စွမ်းပါ။

That's like a drug

ဒါက အတိုင်းအတာတွေ မပါရင်တောင်

which pushes me to keep working,

ဆက်လုပ်ဖို့ ကျွန်မကို တွန်းအားပေးတဲ့

even without metrics.

မူယစ်ဆေးလိုပါ။

One of my models

ကျွန်မရဲ့ ကိုယ်ဟန်ပြမယ်တစ်ဦးမှာ

had always dreamed of being seen as a warrior,

စစ်သည်တစ်ဦးလို အမြင်ခံရဖို့ အမြဲ အိပ်မက်မက်ခဲ့တယ်၊

but she wasn't able to do sports because of her health problems.

ဒါပေမဲ့ ကျန်းမာရေးပြဿနာတွေကြောင့် သူမဟာ အားကစားတွေ မလုပ်နိုင်ခဲ့ဘူး။

Half a year ago, she passed away

လွန်ခဲ့တဲ့ နှစ်ဝက်က အသက် ၂၂ နှစ်မှာ

from heart disease at the age of 22.

နှလုံးရောဂါနဲ သူမဆုံးပါးသွားခဲ့တယ်။

But two days before her death,

ဒါပေမဲ့ မသေခင် နှစ်ရက် အလိုမှာ

the images we spent months working on together

လနဲ့ချီပြီး ကျွန်မတို့ အတူတူလုပ်ခဲ့တဲ့ စစ်သည်တစ်ဦးလို ဖြစ်လာဖို့

of her as a warrior she dreamed of becoming

သူမ အိပ်မက်မက်ခဲ့တဲ့ ရုပ်ပုံတွေကို မီလန်မှာ Vogue Magazine ကနေ

were published at a large exhibition in Milan by Vogue Magazine.

ကြီးမားတဲ့ ပြပွဲတစ်ခုမှာ ပုံနှိပ်ဖော်ပြခဲ့တယ်။

All her life was about overcoming.

သူမရဲ့ ဘဝတစ်ခုလုံးဟာ ကျော်လွှားခြင်းပါ။

Before she died, she had known

သူမ မသေခင် ထောင်ချီတဲ့လူတွေဟာ

that thousands of people saw her image from the land of escapism

ဒိဋ္ဌဓမ္မက လွန်မြောက်မှုကနေ သူမရဲ့ ရုပ်ပုံကို မြင်ခဲ့ကြပြီး

and believed in her as a brave and fearless warrior.

ရဲရင့်ပြီး အကြောက်အလန့်ကင်တဲ့ စစ်သည်အဖြစ် သူမကို ယုံကြည့်ခဲ့ကြတာကို သူမသိရှိခဲ့တယ်။

For my work, I invite people to play a game

ကျွန်မရဲ့ လက်ရာအတွက် လူတွေကို ကစားပွဲတစ်ခုကစားဖို့ ဖိတ်ခေါ်ပါတယ်၊

like we all used to as children

ကလေးတုန်းက အားလုံးကစားခဲ့တာမျိုးပေါ့

when we pretend to be someone else

အခြားသူတစ်ယောက်ဖြစ်ဟန်ဆောင်တဲ့အခါ

and that process made us really happy.

ဒီဖြစ်စဉ်က ကျွန်တို့ကို တကယ်ပဲ ပျော်စေတယ်လေ။

To my mind it is important for grown-ups.

ကျွန်မအအထင် အရွယ်ရောက်တဲ့သူတွေ အတွက် အရေးကြီးပါတယ်။

We need these transformations

ဒီပြောင်းလဲမှုတွေကို အနုပညာ ခေါင်းစဉ်ထဲမှာ

to enact this in the name of art.

အတည်ပြုဖို့လိုပါတယ်။

It gives us the very real feeling of being important and powerful

ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ လက်တွေ့ဘဝကို သြဇာ သက်ရောက်ဖို့ အရေးပါပြီး စွမ်းအားရှိတဲ့

in order to influence our reality.

တကယ့်ခံစားချက်အစစ်ကို ကျွန်မတို့ကိုပေးတယ်။

I know this from my own personal experience.

ဒါကို ကျွန်မရဲ့ကိုယ်ပိုင် အတွေ့အကြုံကနေသိတာပါ။

I have had so many versions of myself

ကျွန်မဟာ ကွဲပြားတဲ့ စရိုက်များစွာရှိဖူးတယ် ဆိုလောက်အောင်

through my self-portraits

ကျွန်မရဲ့ ပုံကိုယ်တိုင် ပုံတူတွေကနေ

that I've been many different characters.

ကျွန်မကိုယ်တိုင်ရဲ့ မူကွဲအများကြီးရှိတယ်၊

Being someone else in the land of escapism

ဒိဋ္ဌဓမ္မက လွန်မြောက်မှုမှုရဲ့ နယ်မြေထဲက အခြားသူတစ်ယောက်ဖြစ်ခြင်းဟာ

doesn't exactly give us numbers that we can gauge,

ကျွန်မတို့ တွက်ချက်လို့ရတဲ့ ကိန်းဂဏန်းတွေ အတိအကျအပေးပေမဲ့

but it's like a real lost form of magic

ဒါဟာ တည်ရှိပေမဲ့ တိုင်းတာလို့မရတဲ့

which exists but can't be measured.

မှော်ဆန်မှုရဲ့ တကယ့်ပျောက်ဆုံးနေတဲ့ သဏ္ဌာန်လိုပါ၊

There is a unique power in art

ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ ကန့်သတ်ချက်တွေကို ပြောင်းလဲဖို့၊

to transform and lift our limits.

မြှင့်တင်ဖို့ ထူးခြားတဲ့ အစွမ်း အနုပညာမှာရှိတယ်။

Art creates what I call a conjured life,

အနုပညာဟာ ပဉ္စလက်ဆန်တဲ့ ဘဝလို့ ကျွန်မခေါ်တာကို ဖန်တီးပေးတယ်၊

which helps our existence

ဒါက ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ ဖြစ်တည်မှုကို ကူညီတယ်၊

and pushes, motivates and inspires us to dwell

ကျွန်မတို့ကိယ်တိုင်ကို တိုင်းတာမှုတွေ၊ တွက်ချက်မှုတွေမပါပဲ

and express ourselves

ကျွန်မတို့ကို နေထိုင်ဖို့၊ ဖော်ပြဖို့

without metrics or calculations.

တွန်းပေးတယ်၊ လှုံဆော်တယ်၊ စေ့ဆော်ပေးတယ်။
