HEAR vs LISTEN Difference, Meaning, Example Sentences | Learn English Vocabulary

In this video, I’m going to talk  about two similar and sometimes  

ในวิดีโอนี้ ฉันจะพูดถึง

confusing English words ‘hear’ and ‘listen’.

คำภาษาอังกฤษสองคำที่คล้ายกันและบางครั้งก็ทำให้สับสน 'ได้ยิน' และ 'ฟัง'

These two words are commonly confused in English,

คำสองคำนี้มักสับสนในภาษาอังกฤษ

but after watching this video you'll have  a good understanding of the difference and when to use these words.

Let’s get started.

มาเริ่มกันเลย.

Let’s start with ‘hear’. It is an irregular verb. 

เริ่มต้นด้วยการ 'ได้ยิน' เป็นคำกริยาที่ไม่ปกติ

The past tense is ‘heard’.

อดีตกาลคือ 'ได้ยิน'

When you hear something, noise is coming into your ears.

เมื่อคุณได้ยินบางสิ่งบางอย่าง มีเสียงดังเข้ามาในหูของคุณ

You are not focused on the noise.

คุณไม่ได้มุ่งเน้นไปที่เสียงรบกวน

When you are walking down the street,

เมื่อคุณเดินไปตามถนน

you may hear people talking, you may hear birds,

คุณอาจได้ยินเสียงคนพูด คุณอาจได้ยินเสียงนก

you may hear noise from the traffic,

คุณอาจได้ยินเสียงจากการจราจร

you hear all different noises.

คุณได้ยินเสียงต่างๆ กัน

Let’s look at some example sentences.

มาดูตัวอย่างประโยคกันบ้าง

The first sentence says,

ประโยคแรกพูดว่า

‘I hear someone knocking on my door.’

'ฉันได้ยินคนมาเคาะประตูบ้านของฉัน'

So the sound of the knocking or the noise of the knocking is coming into your ears,

ดังนั้นเสียงเคาะหรือเสียงเคาะจึงเข้ามาในหูของคุณ

so you can hear it.

เพื่อให้คุณได้ยิน

The next sentence says,

ประโยคถัดไปพูดว่า

‘He heard the thunder last night.’

'เขาได้ยินเสียงฟ้าร้องเมื่อคืนนี้'

Thunder is very loud, so again you  will hear the noise of the thunder. 

ฟ้าร้องดังมาก ดังนั้นคุณจะได้ยินเสียงฟ้าร้องอีกครั้ง

Now, I will talk about ‘listen’.

ตอนนี้ผมจะพูดถึง 'การฟัง'

It is a regular verb

มันเป็นคำกริยาปกติ

and the past tense is ‘listened’.

และอดีตกาลคือ 'ฟัง'

It is usually followed by the preposition ‘to’.

มักจะตามด้วยคำบุพบท 'to'

So you say ‘listen to’.

ดังนั้นคุณจึงพูดว่า 'ฟัง'

When you are listening, you are trying to hear something.

เมื่อคุณกำลังฟัง คุณกำลังพยายามจะได้ยินบางสิ่ง

You are focused. And you really want to hear something clearly.

คุณมีสมาธิ และคุณอยากได้ยินบางสิ่งอย่างชัดเจนจริงๆ

You pay attention to listen.

คุณให้ความสนใจที่จะฟัง

Right now, you are listening to me.

ตอนนี้คุณกำลังฟังฉันอยู่

Let’s look at some example sentences.

มาดูตัวอย่างประโยคกันบ้าง

The first sentence says,

ประโยคแรกกล่าวว่า

‘I always listen carefully to what my teacher says.’

'ฉันมักจะตั้งใจฟังสิ่งที่ครูพูดเสมอ'

In this example, ‘listen’ is just like focusing or paying attention to.

ในตัวอย่างนี้ 'ฟัง' ก็เหมือนกับการเพ่งความสนใจหรือให้ความสนใจ

The next sentence says,

ประโยคถัดไปพูดว่า

‘She usually listens to music before bed.’

'เธอมักจะฟังเพลงก่อนนอน'

This case also talks about focusing on the music with their ears.

กรณีนี้ยังพูดถึงการเน้นดนตรีด้วยหูของพวกเขาด้วย

Now, let's do a checkup.

เอาล่ะ มาตรวจสุขภาพกันดีกว่า

We need to use ‘listen’ and ‘hear’

เราจำเป็นต้องใช้ 'listen' และ 'hear'

to  fill in the blanks in this sentence.

เพื่อเติมคำในช่องว่างในประโยคนี้

Take a moment to think about where to  use ‘listen’ and where to use ‘hear’. 

ใช้เวลาสักครู่เพื่อคิดว่าจะใช้ 'listen' ตรงไหน และจะใช้ 'hear' ตรงไหน

The sentence says,

ประโยคกล่าวว่า

‘I am _blank_ to their conversation.’

'ฉันเป็น _blank_ สำหรับการสนทนาของพวกเขา'

Which one means to pay  attention to or to focus on? 

ข้อใดหมายถึงการใส่ใจหรือให้ความสำคัญ?

That's ‘listen’.

นั่นก็คือ 'ฟัง'

So we need to put ‘listen’ in the first blank.

ดังนั้นเราจึงต้องใส่ 'listen' ในช่องแรก

‘I am _blank_ to their conversation.’

'ฉัน _blank_ กับการสนทนาของพวกเขา'

You'll notice it says ‘I am’

คุณจะสังเกตเห็นว่ามันบอกว่า 'ฉันเป็น'

so we need to use the present continuous tense ‘listening’.

ดังนั้นเราจึงจำเป็นต้องใช้ 'การฟัง' กาลต่อเนื่องในปัจจุบัน

‘I am listening to their conversation.’

'ฉันกำลังฟังการสนทนาของพวกเขา'

The second part of this sentence says,

ส่วนที่สองของประโยคนี้กล่าวว่า

‘but I  can't _blank_ exactly what they are saying.’

'แต่ฉันไม่สามารถ _blank_ สิ่งที่พวกเขาพูดได้แน่ชัด'

Maybe it's noisy outside so it's hard to hear. 

บางทีข้างนอกอาจมีเสียงดังจนไม่ได้ยิน

Remember, ‘hear’ means to take in the noise with your ears, 

โปรดจำไว้ว่า 'ได้ยิน' หมายถึงการรับฟังเสียงด้วยหูของคุณ

so the correct answer for the second part is

ดังนั้นคำตอบที่ถูกต้องสำหรับส่วนที่สองคือ

‘I can't hear exactly what they are saying.’

'ฉันไม่ได้ยินสิ่งที่พวกเขาพูดอย่างชัดเจน'

Now you know the difference  between ‘hear’ and ‘listen’.
