HEAR vs LISTEN Difference, Meaning, Example Sentences | Learn English Vocabulary

In this video, I’m going to talk  about two similar and sometimes  

આ વિડિયોમાં, હું બે સમાન અને ક્યારેક

confusing English words ‘hear’ and ‘listen’.

મૂંઝવતા અંગ્રેજી શબ્દો 'હિયર' અને 'લિસન' વિશે વાત કરવા જઈ રહ્યો છું.

These two words are commonly confused in English,

આ બે શબ્દો સામાન્ય રીતે અંગ્રેજીમાં મૂંઝવણમાં હોય છે,

but after watching this video you'll have  a good understanding of the difference and when to use these words.

પરંતુ આ વિડિયો જોયા પછી તમને તફાવત અને આ શબ્દોનો ઉપયોગ ક્યારે કરવો તેની સારી સમજણ પડશે.

Let’s get started.

ચાલો, શરુ કરીએ.

Let’s start with ‘hear’. It is an irregular verb. 

ચાલો 'સાંભળવું' થી શરૂઆત કરીએ. તે એક અનિયમિત ક્રિયાપદ છે.

The past tense is ‘heard’.

ભૂતકાળનો સમય 'સાંભળ્યો' છે.

When you hear something, noise is coming into your ears.

જ્યારે તમે કંઇક સાંભળો છો, ત્યારે તમારા કાનમાં અવાજ આવે છે.

You are not focused on the noise.

તમે ઘોંઘાટ પર ધ્યાન કેન્દ્રિત કરતા નથી.

When you are walking down the street,

જ્યારે તમે શેરીમાં ચાલતા હોવ, ત્યારે

you may hear people talking, you may hear birds,

તમે લોકોને વાત કરતા સાંભળી શકો છો, તમે પક્ષીઓને સાંભળી શકો છો,

you may hear noise from the traffic,

તમે ટ્રાફિકમાંથી અવાજ સાંભળી શકો છો,

you hear all different noises.

તમે બધા જુદા જુદા અવાજો સાંભળી શકો છો.

Let’s look at some example sentences.

ચાલો કેટલાક ઉદાહરણ વાક્યો જોઈએ.

The first sentence says,

પહેલું વાક્ય કહે છે,

‘I hear someone knocking on my door.’

'હું સાંભળું છું કે કોઈ મારા દરવાજે ખટખટાવે છે.'

So the sound of the knocking or the noise of the knocking is coming into your ears,

તેથી પછાડવાનો અવાજ કે પછાડવાનો અવાજ તમારા કાનમાં આવી રહ્યો છે,

so you can hear it.

જેથી તમે તેને સાંભળી શકો.

The next sentence says,

આગળનું વાક્ય કહે છે,

‘He heard the thunder last night.’

'તેણે ગઈ રાત્રે ગર્જના સાંભળી.'

Thunder is very loud, so again you  will hear the noise of the thunder. 

ગર્જના ખૂબ જોરથી છે, તેથી તમે ફરીથી ગર્જનાનો અવાજ સાંભળશો.

Now, I will talk about ‘listen’.

હવે, હું 'સાંભળો' વિશે વાત કરીશ.

It is a regular verb

તે નિયમિત ક્રિયાપદ છે

and the past tense is ‘listened’.

અને ભૂતકાળનો સમય 'સાંભળ્યો' છે.

It is usually followed by the preposition ‘to’.

તે સામાન્ય રીતે 'to' પૂર્વનિર્ધારણ દ્વારા અનુસરવામાં આવે છે.

So you say ‘listen to’.

તો તમે કહો કે 'સાંભળો'.

When you are listening, you are trying to hear something.

જ્યારે તમે સાંભળો છો, ત્યારે તમે કંઈક સાંભળવાનો પ્રયાસ કરી રહ્યાં છો.

You are focused. And you really want to hear something clearly.

તમે કેન્દ્રિત છો. અને તમે ખરેખર કંઈક સ્પષ્ટ રીતે સાંભળવા માંગો છો.

You pay attention to listen.

તમે સાંભળવામાં ધ્યાન આપો.

Right now, you are listening to me.

અત્યારે, તમે મને સાંભળો છો.

Let’s look at some example sentences.

ચાલો કેટલાક ઉદાહરણ વાક્યો જોઈએ.

The first sentence says,

પ્રથમ વાક્ય કહે છે,

‘I always listen carefully to what my teacher says.’

'મારા શિક્ષક જે કહે છે તે હું હંમેશા ધ્યાનથી સાંભળું છું.'

In this example, ‘listen’ is just like focusing or paying attention to.

આ ઉદાહરણમાં, 'સાંભળો' એ ધ્યાન કેન્દ્રિત કરવા અથવા ધ્યાન આપવા જેવું છે.

The next sentence says,

આગળનું વાક્ય કહે છે,

‘She usually listens to music before bed.’

'તે સામાન્ય રીતે સૂતા પહેલા સંગીત સાંભળે છે.'

This case also talks about focusing on the music with their ears.

આ કેસ તેમના કાન સાથે સંગીત પર ધ્યાન કેન્દ્રિત કરવાની પણ વાત કરે છે.

Now, let's do a checkup.

હવે, ચાલો ચેકઅપ કરીએ.

We need to use ‘listen’ and ‘hear’

આ વાક્યમાં ખાલી જગ્યાઓ ભરવા માટે

to  fill in the blanks in this sentence.

આપણે 'સાંભળવું' અને 'સાંભળવું' નો ઉપયોગ કરવાની જરૂર છે

Take a moment to think about where to  use ‘listen’ and where to use ‘hear’. 

. 'સાંભળવું' ક્યાં વાપરવું અને 'સાંભળવું' ક્યાં વાપરવું તે વિશે વિચારવા માટે થોડો સમય કાઢો.

The sentence says,

આ વાક્ય કહે છે,

‘I am _blank_ to their conversation.’

'હું તેમની વાતચીત માટે _blank_ છું.'

Which one means to pay  attention to or to focus on? 

જેના પર ધ્યાન આપવું અથવા ધ્યાન કેન્દ્રિત કરવું તેનો અર્થ શું છે?

That's ‘listen’.

તે 'સાંભળો' છે.

So we need to put ‘listen’ in the first blank.

તેથી આપણે પ્રથમ ખાલી જગ્યામાં 'સાંભળો' મૂકવાની જરૂર છે.

‘I am _blank_ to their conversation.’

'હું તેમની વાતચીતથી ખાલી છું.'

You'll notice it says ‘I am’

તમે જોશો કે તે 'હું છું' કહે છે

so we need to use the present continuous tense ‘listening’.

તેથી આપણે વર્તમાન સતત તંગ 'શ્રવણ'નો ઉપયોગ કરવાની જરૂર છે.

‘I am listening to their conversation.’

'હું તેમની વાતચીત સાંભળી રહ્યો છું.'

The second part of this sentence says,

આ વાક્યનો બીજો ભાગ કહે છે,

‘but I  can't _blank_ exactly what they are saying.’

'પરંતુ તેઓ જે કહે છે તે હું બરાબર _blank_ કરી શકતો નથી.'

Maybe it's noisy outside so it's hard to hear. 

કદાચ તે બહાર ઘોંઘાટ છે તેથી તે સાંભળવું મુશ્કેલ છે.

Remember, ‘hear’ means to take in the noise with your ears, 

યાદ રાખો, 'સાંભળવું' એટલે તમારા કાનથી અવાજ ઉઠાવવો,

so the correct answer for the second part is

તેથી બીજા ભાગનો સાચો જવાબ છે

‘I can't hear exactly what they are saying.’

'હું બરાબર સાંભળી શકતો નથી કે તેઓ શું કહે છે.'

Now you know the difference  between ‘hear’ and ‘listen’. 

હવે તમે 'સાંભળો' અને 'સાંભળો' વચ્ચેનો તફાવત જાણો છો.
