HEAR vs LISTEN Difference, Meaning, Example Sentences | Learn English Vocabulary

In this video, I’m going to talk  about two similar and sometimes  

இந்தக் காணொளியில், ஒரே மாதிரியான மற்றும் சில சமயங்களில்

confusing English words ‘hear’ and ‘listen’.

குழப்பமான இரண்டு ஆங்கில வார்த்தைகளான 'hear' மற்றும் 'listen' பற்றி பேசப் போகிறேன்

These two words are commonly confused in English,

but after watching this video you'll have  a good understanding of the difference and when to use these words.

Let’s get started.

ஆரம்பிக்கலாம்.

Let’s start with ‘hear’. It is an irregular verb. 

'கேட்க' என்று ஆரம்பிக்கலாம். இது ஒரு ஒழுங்கற்ற வினைச்சொல்.

The past tense is ‘heard’.

கடந்த காலம் 'கேட்டது'.

When you hear something, noise is coming into your ears.

நீங்கள் எதையாவது கேட்கும்போது, ​​​​உங்கள் காதுகளில் சத்தம் வருகிறது.

You are not focused on the noise.

நீங்கள் சத்தத்தில் கவனம் செலுத்தவில்லை.

When you are walking down the street,

நீங்கள் தெருவில் நடந்து செல்லும் போது,

you may hear people talking, you may hear birds,

​​மக்கள் பேசுவதை நீங்கள் கேட்கலாம், பறவைகள் சத்தம் கேட்கலாம்,

you may hear noise from the traffic,

you hear all different noises.

Let’s look at some example sentences.

சில உதாரண வாக்கியங்களைப் பார்ப்போம்.

The first sentence says,

முதல் வாக்கியம்,

‘I hear someone knocking on my door.’

'யாரோ என் கதவைத் தட்டும் சத்தம் கேட்கிறது.'

So the sound of the knocking or the noise of the knocking is coming into your ears,

எனவே தட்டும் சத்தம் அல்லது தட்டும் சத்தம் உங்கள் காதுகளில் வருகிறது,

so you can hear it.

எனவே நீங்கள் அதை கேட்கலாம்.

The next sentence says,

அடுத்த வாக்கியம்,

‘He heard the thunder last night.’

Thunder is very loud, so again you  will hear the noise of the thunder.

Now, I will talk about ‘listen’.

இப்போது, ​​நான் 'கேளுங்கள்' பற்றி பேசுகிறேன்.

It is a regular verb

இது ஒரு வழக்கமான வினைச்சொல்

and the past tense is ‘listened’.

மற்றும் கடந்த காலம் 'கேட்டது'.

It is usually followed by the preposition ‘to’.

இது வழக்கமாக 'to' என்ற முன்னுரையால் பின்பற்றப்படுகிறது.

So you say ‘listen to’.

எனவே நீங்கள் 'கேளுங்கள்' என்று சொல்கிறீர்கள்.

When you are listening, you are trying to hear something.

நீங்கள் கேட்கும்போது, ​​​​நீங்கள் எதையாவது கேட்க முயற்சிக்கிறீர்கள்.

You are focused. And you really want to hear something clearly.

நீங்கள் கவனம் செலுத்துகிறீர்கள். நீங்கள் உண்மையில் ஏதாவது தெளிவாக கேட்க வேண்டும்.

You pay attention to listen.

நீங்கள் கேட்பதில் கவனம் செலுத்துங்கள்.

Right now, you are listening to me.

இப்போது நீங்கள் நான் சொல்வதைக் கேட்கிறீர்கள்.

Let’s look at some example sentences.

சில உதாரண வாக்கியங்களைப் பார்ப்போம்.

The first sentence says,

முதல் வாக்கியம்,

‘I always listen carefully to what my teacher says.’

'எனது ஆசிரியர் சொல்வதை நான் எப்போதும் கவனமாகக் கேட்பேன்' என்று கூறுகிறது.

In this example, ‘listen’ is just like focusing or paying attention to.

இந்த எடுத்துக்காட்டில், 'கேளுங்கள்' என்பது கவனம் செலுத்துவது அல்லது கவனம் செலுத்துவது போன்றது.

The next sentence says,

அடுத்த வாக்கியம்,

‘She usually listens to music before bed.’

'அவள் வழக்கமாக படுக்கைக்கு முன் இசையைக் கேட்பாள்.'

This case also talks about focusing on the music with their ears.

இந்த வழக்கு அவர்களின் காதுகளால் இசையில் கவனம் செலுத்துவது பற்றியும் பேசுகிறது.

Now, let's do a checkup.

இப்போது, ​​​​சரிபார்ப்போம்.

We need to use ‘listen’ and ‘hear’

இந்த வாக்கியத்தில் உள்ள வெற்றிடங்களை நிரப்ப,

to  fill in the blanks in this sentence.

'கேட்க' மற்றும் 'கேட்க' என்பதைப் பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும்

Take a moment to think about where to  use ‘listen’ and where to use ‘hear’. 

. 'கேளுங்கள்' என்பதை எங்கு பயன்படுத்துவது மற்றும் 'கேள்' என்பதை எங்கு பயன்படுத்துவது என்பதைப் பற்றி சிறிது சிந்தித்துப் பாருங்கள்.

The sentence says,

வாக்கியம்,

‘I am _blank_ to their conversation.’

'நான் அவர்களின் உரையாடலுக்கு _ வெறுமையாக இருக்கிறேன்.'

Which one means to pay  attention to or to focus on? 

கவனம் செலுத்துவது அல்லது கவனம் செலுத்துவது எது?

That's ‘listen’.

அதுதான் 'கேளுங்கள்'.

So we need to put ‘listen’ in the first blank.

எனவே முதல் வெற்றிடத்தில் 'கேளுங்கள்' என்று வைக்க வேண்டும்.

‘I am _blank_ to their conversation.’

அவர்களின் உரையாடலில் நான் _ வெறுமையாக இருக்கிறேன்.'

You'll notice it says ‘I am’

அது 'நான்' என்று சொல்வதை நீங்கள் கவனிப்பீர்கள்,

so we need to use the present continuous tense ‘listening’.

எனவே நாம் தற்போதைய தொடர்ச்சியான கால 'கேட்குதல்' பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும்.

‘I am listening to their conversation.’

'நான் அவர்களின் உரையாடலைக் கேட்டுக் கொண்டிருக்கிறேன்.'

The second part of this sentence says,

இந்த வாக்கியத்தின் இரண்டாம் பகுதி,

‘but I  can't _blank_ exactly what they are saying.’

'ஆனால் அவர்கள் என்ன சொல்கிறார்கள் என்பதை என்னால்_வெறுமையாக_ சொல்ல முடியவில்லை.'

Maybe it's noisy outside so it's hard to hear. 

வெளியில் சத்தமாக இருப்பதால் கேட்க கடினமாக இருக்கலாம்.

Remember, ‘hear’ means to take in the noise with your ears, 

நினைவில் கொள்ளுங்கள், 'கேட்பது' என்பது உங்கள் காதுகளால் சத்தத்தை உள்வாங்குவதாகும்,

so the correct answer for the second part is

எனவே இரண்டாவது பகுதிக்கான சரியான பதில்

‘I can't hear exactly what they are saying.’

'அவர்கள் சொல்வதை என்னால் சரியாகக் கேட்க முடியவில்லை.'

Now you know the difference  between ‘hear’ and ‘listen’. 

'கேள்' என்பதற்கும் 'கேட்பது' என்பதற்கும் உள்ள வித்தியாசம் இப்போது உங்களுக்குத் தெரியும்.
