First Kiss

یەکەم ماچ

Her mouth

لێوی ئەو

fell into my mouth

کەوتە ناو دەممەوە

like a summer snow, like a 5th season, like a fresh Eden,

وەک بەفری هاوینە، وەک وەرزی پێنجەم، وەک بەهەشتی عەدەن،

like Eden when Eve made God

وەک ئەو کاتەی حەوا وای لە خوا کرد

whimper with the liquid tilt of her hips—

فرمێسکێک بە لا ڕانیدا بێتە خوارەوە—

her kiss hurt like that—

ماچەکەی بەم شێوەیە بە سوێ بوو—

I mean, it was as if she’d mixed the sweat of an angel

وەک ئەوەی ئارەقەی فریشتە تێکەڵ بە

with the taste of a tangerine,

تامی لالەنگی بکەیت،

I swear. My mouth had been a helmet forever

چەورکراو بێت بە نهێنی، دەمم

a dead-end street a little bit lit by teeth—my heart, a clam

شەقامێکی بێ کۆتا کە بە ڕوناکی ددانەکان ڕۆشن ببێتەوە، دڵم وەک شەیتانۆکە

slammed shut at the bottom of a dark,

لە قوڵای تاریکیدا بەند کراوە،

but her mouth pulled up like a baby-blue Cadillac

بەڵام دەمی وەک ئۆتۆمبێلی کادیلاکی شین کرایەوە

packed with canaries driven by a toucan—I swear

بە کەناری داپۆشراو و باڵندەیەکی تۆکان لێی بخوڕێت- سوێند دەخۆم

those lips said bright wings when we kissed, wild

کە ماچمان کرد، ئەو لێوانە گوتیان باڵی بریسکەدار

and precise—as if she were teaching a seahorse to speak—

نامۆ و پوخت - وەک ئەوەی قسەکردن فێری ئەسپی-دەریا بکات -

her mouth so careful, chumming the first vowel from my throat

دەمی زۆر بە وریاییەوە، هاودەم لەگەڵ یەکەم بزوێنی گەرووم

until my brain was a piano banged loud, hammered like that—

تاوەکوو مێشکم وەک پیانۆیەک بە هێز بکوترێت، بەم شێوەیە بوو،

it was like, I swear her tongue was Saturn’s 7th moon—

سوێندەخۆم کە زمانی وەکو حەوتەمین مانگی هەسارەی کەیوان بوو -

hot like that, hot and cold and circling,

وەها گەرمبوو، کە هۆشی لێبڕیم،

circling, turning me into a glad planet—

بێهۆش بووم، بردمی بۆ سەر هەسارەیەکی شاد -

sun on one side, night pouring

ڕۆژ لە لایەک، شەویش ئەوی دەباراند

her slow hand over the other: one fire flying the kite of another.

بە هێواشی بەسەر ئەوانی تردا: ئاگرێک کۆلارەی ئەوی تری دەفڕاند.

Her kiss, I swear—if the Great Mother rushed open the moon

ماچی ئەو، سوێند دەخۆم- ئەگەر دایکە زەوی بە خێرایی مانگت

like a gift and you were there to feel your shadow finally

بۆ شەق بکات وەکو دیارییەک و تۆش لەوێ بیت بۆ ئەوەی هەست بکەیت

کە لە کۆتاییدا سێبەرت لە مەچک ترازا، لێت جیادەبێتەوە.

unhooked from your wrist.

That’d be it, but even sweeter—

دەبێت شیرین بێت، بەڵام شیرنتر -

like a riot of peg-legged priests on pogo-sticks, up and up,

وەکو پشێوی قەشە شەلەکان بازی گەورە دەدەن بەرز دەبێتەوە و بەرز دەبێتەوە،

this way and this, not falling but on and on

بەم شێوەیە، ناکەوێت بەڵکو بەردەوام دەبێت

like that, badly behaved

بەم شێوەیە، بە خراپی ڕەفتاری کرد

but holy—I swear! That kiss: both lips utterly committed

بەڵام ئەمە پیرۆزە - سوێند دەخۆم! ئەم ماچە: هەردوو لێوەکە بەیەکەوە

to the world like a Peace Corps,

بەستران وەکو سوپای ئاشتی لە جیهاندا،

like a free store, forever and always

وەکو کۆگایەکی بەتاڵ، هەمیشە و تا هەتایە

a new city—no locks, no walls, just doors—like that, I swear,

شارێکی نوێ، بێ قوفڵ، بێ دیوار، تەنها دەرگا-بەم شێوەیە بوو، سوێند دەخۆم،
