ဒီနေ့တော့ မင်းအတွက် အခြေခံအင်္ဂလိပ်ဗီဒီယိုကောင်းလေးတစ်ခု ရှိတယ်။

Now, I'm going to talk to you about silent ‘e’.

အခု ငါ မင်းကို အသံတိတ် 'အီး' အကြောင်း ပြောမယ်။

Now, a silent letter is a letter  in a word that we don't say.

အခုတော့ အသံတိတ်စာက ကျွန်တော်တို့ မပြောတဲ့ စာလုံးတစ်လုံးပါ။

It's just there. We write the word. 

အဲဒါပဲရှိတယ်။ စကားလုံးကို ရေးတယ်။

We write the letter. But when we read the word,  

ကျွန်တော်တို့ စာရေးတယ်။ ဒါပေမယ့် စကားလုံးကိုဖတ်တဲ့အခါ

we don't say that letter. Now silent ‘e’, kind of a tricky one here. 

အဲဒီစာကို မပြောဘူး။ ခုတော့ 'အီး' တိတ်တိတ်နေ၊ ဒီမှာ ဆန်းကျယ်တဲ့တစ်မျိုး။

And I've got some examples to help you. Now, if you can remember your vowels:  

ပြီးတော့ ငါမင်းကိုကူညီဖို့ ဥပမာတချို့ရှိတယ်။ အခု မင်းရဲ့သရတွေကို မှတ်မိနိုင်ရင်

a, e, I, o , u

a, e, I, o, u

Now each vowel has two different sounds.

အခု သရတစ်ခုစီမှာ မတူညီတဲ့ အသံနှစ်ခုရှိပါတယ်။

The short sound and the long sound. Well, silent ‘e’ is the letter ‘e’  

အသံတိုနှင့် အသံရှည်။ အသံတိတ် 'e' သည်

that comes at the end of a word. But we don't say the ‘e’. 

စကားလုံးတစ်ခု၏ အဆုံးတွင် ထွက်လာသော 'e' ဖြစ်သည်။ ဒါပေမယ့် ငါတို့က 'e' လို့ မပြောဘူး။

The ‘e’ is just there to change the vowel sound. 

သရသံပြောင်းရန် 'e' သည် ထိုနေရာတွင်သာရှိသည်။

Let's take a look here and I'll show you. All right, now, I have this first word here. 

ဒီမှာကြည့်ရအောင်၊ ငါမင်းကိုပြမယ်။ ဟုတ်ပြီ၊ ငါဒီမှာပထမဆုံးစကားလုံးရှိတယ်။

plan Okay, that's like ‘I have a plan for tomorrow’. 

အစီအစဉ်ကောင်း၊ အဲဒါ 'မနက်ဖြန်အတွက် အစီအစဉ်ရှိတယ်' နဲ့တူတယ်။

Okay, so we know that a plan you make a plan, then if I do this, 

ကောင်းပြီ၊ မင်းအစီအစဉ်တစ်ခုလုပ်တယ်ဆိုတာ ငါတို့သိတယ်၊ အဲဒါကို ငါလုပ်ရင်

now it's not ‘planee’, no. Now it becomes, before it was short ‘a’, plan,  

အခု 'လေယာဉ်' မဟုတ်ဘူး၊ မဟုတ်တော့ဘူး။ အခုက အတို 'a'၊ plan,

now, long ‘a’, ‘plane’. Okay like an airplane, all right. 

now, long 'a', 'plane' ဖြစ်သွားတယ် ။ ကောင်းပြီ၊ လေယာဉ်ပျံလိုပါပဲ။

Look at the plane in the sky. Not plane. 

ကောင်းကင်မှာ လေယာဉ်ကို ကြည့်ပါ။ လေယာဉ်မဟုတ်ပါ။

Now, it's long ‘a’, ‘plane’. Okay. 

အခုက 'a'၊ 'လေယာဉ်' ရှည်တယ်။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

Next thing going down here. We know this this is a man's name, ‘Tim’. 

နောက်တစ်ခုက ဒီမှာ ဆင်းမယ်။ ဤသည်မှာ လူ၏အမည် 'တိ' ဖြစ်သည်ကို ငါတို့သိ၏။

Maybe you have a friend named Tim. Okay, but, and again, that is sound,  

သင့်တွင် Tim ဟုခေါ်သော သူငယ်ချင်းတစ်ယောက်ရှိနိုင်သည်။ အိုကေ၊ ဒါပေမယ့်၊ အဲဒါက အသံထွက်တယ်၊

that's short ‘i’. But if we go ahead,  

အဲဒါ 'i' တိုတောင်းတယ်။ ဒါပေမယ့် ငါတို့ရှေ့ဆက်ပြီး

and if we put silent ‘e’ there, that means now ‘time’. 

'e' လို့ နှုတ်ဆိတ်နေရင်တော့ အခု 'အချိန်' လို့ အဓိပ္ပါယ်ရပါတယ်။

Okay. What time is it? 

ဟုတ်ပြီ ဘယ်နှစ်နာရီရှိပြီလဲ?

Alright. Not ‘Timee’. 

ကောင်းပြီ 'Timee' မဟုတ်ပါ။

Again, silent ‘e’. Don't say it. 

တဖန် 'အီး' အသံတိတ်။ မပြောနဲ့။

But now you have the long ‘i' sound, ‘time’. Alright. 

ဒါပေမယ့် အခု မင်းမှာ 'i' ဆိုတဲ့ အသံရှည် 'အချိန်' ရှိတယ်။ ကောင်းပြီ

If you remember, ‘plan’  had the ‘a’ with short ‘a'. 

မှတ်မိရင် 'အစီအစဉ်' မှာ 'a' ကို အတိုချုံး 'a' နဲ့ ရေးထားတယ်။

So does ‘cap’ with the /æ/ sound. Alright. 

'ထုပ်' သည် /æ/ အသံနှင့်လည်းတူသည်။ ကောင်းပြီ

So if we have ‘cap’ right now, let's go ahead and make ‘cape’. 

ဒါဆို ငါတို့မှာ 'ဦးထုပ်' ရှိရင် 'အဖုံး' လုပ်လိုက်ကြရအောင်။

Alright. Now, we go to long ‘a’ with the ‘cape’ sound. 

ကောင်းပြီ အခုတော့ 'a' ကို 'အငူ' အသံနဲ့ ရှည်သွားပါပြီ။

Alright. Keep it going here. 

ကောင်းပြီ ဒီမှာ ဆက်သွားပါ။

‘hop’ That's short vowel ‘o’. 

'ဟော့' အဲဒါ သရအတို 'o'။

The /ɒ/ sound. Alright. 

/ɒ/ အသံ။ ကောင်းပြီ

So we have ‘hop’. I just did one. 

ဒီတော့ ငါတို့မှာ 'ခုန်' တယ်။ တစ်ခုပဲလုပ်ခဲ့တယ်။

Alright. Now after ‘hop’, we put short ‘e’. 

ကောင်းပြီ အခု 'hop' ပြီးရင် 'e' ကို အတိုချုံးပါ။

Don't say ‘hoppee’. We say ‘hope’. 

'ဟော့ပီ' လို့ မပြောပါနဲ့။ ငါတို့က 'မျှော်လင့်ချက်' တဲ့။

It's like ‘I hope it does not rain tomorrow  because I'm going to the baseball game.’ 

'ဘေ့စ်ဘောကစားတော့မှာမို့ မနက်ဖြန် မိုးမရွာဘူးလို့ မျှော်လင့်ပါတယ်' တဲ့။

Things like that. Alright. 

ကြိုက်တဲ့အရာ။ ကောင်းပြီ

Before it was ‘hop’ now ‘hope’  with the long vowel ‘o’ sound. 

'ဟော့' မဖြစ်ခင် အခု 'မျှော်လင့်ချက်' သရသံရှည် 'o' အသံ။

All right. Coming up here,  

ကောင်းပါပြီ။ ဒီကိုရောက်လာတော့

we haven't done one with ‘u’ yet. Now long ‘u’, it's a little strange. 

'မင်း' နဲ့ တစ်ခုမှ မပြီးသေးဘူး။ ကဲကွာ၊ နည်းနည်းတော့ ထူးဆန်းတယ်။

It's /u/ okay. But more on that. 

/u/ အဆင်ပြေပါတယ်။ ဒါပေမယ့် အဲဒီအပေါ်မှာ ပိုပါတယ်။

so here's short ‘u’, ‘tub’. The short vowel ‘u’. 

ဒီတော့ ဒီမှာ 'u', 'tub' တိုတောင်းတယ်။ သရအတိုကတော့ 'u' ပါ။

Alright. From ‘tub’, we put silent ‘e’. 

ကောင်းပြီ 'ရေချိုးကန်' မှ 'အီး' ဟု နှုတ်ဆိတ်နေပါသည်။

Again, not ‘tubee’, we say ‘tube’. Alright. 

တဖန် 'tubee' မဟုတ်ဘဲ၊ ငါတို့သည် 'tube' ဟုဆိုသည်။ ကောင်းပြီ

‘A tube of toothpaste.’ Okay. 

'သွားတိုက်ဆေးပြွန်' ဟုတ်ပြီ

Goes from ‘tub’ to ‘tube’. But still I'm not saying silent ‘e’. 

'tub' မှ 'tube' သို့သွားသည် ။ ဒါပေမယ့် 'အီး' လို့ မပြောသေးဘူး ။

Alright. After that we come down to ‘bit’. 

ကောင်းပြီ ပြီးရင် 'bit' ဆီကို ရောက်သွားတယ်။

‘bit’ means a small piece. You know, ‘Can I have a bit of your bread?’ 

'bit' ဆိုသည်မှာ သေးငယ်သောအပိုင်းကို ဆိုလိုသည်။ 'မင်းရဲ့ ပေါင်မုန့်နည်းနည်းလောက် ရနိုင်မလား'

Well that's ‘bit’. Again, same as Tim. 

အင်း အဲဒါ 'နည်းနည်း' ပဲ။ တဖန် Tim ကဲ့သို့ပင်။

We have the /ɪ/, short vowel ‘I’. So again, silent ‘e’ comes in. 

ကျွန်ုပ်တို့တွင် /ɪ/၊ သရအတို 'I' ရှိသည်။ အသံတိတ် 'အီး' ဝင်လာပြန်သည်။

‘bite’ not ‘bitee’. ‘bite’ 

'ကိုက်' 'ကိုက်' မဟုတ်ပါ။ 'ကိုက်'

Going on there. 

ဟိုမှာ။

Now, you're probably getting a good idea  of it, so I just got two more for you. 

အခု မင်း အကြံကောင်းတစ်ခု ရနေပြီမို့ မင်းအတွက် နောက်ထပ် နှစ်ခုပဲ ရှိသေးတာ။

Again, here. You know, remember, /ʌ/. The short vowel ‘u’. 

တဖန်ဒီမှာ။ သိတယ်၊ မှတ်မိတယ်၊ /ʌ/။ သရအတိုကတော့ 'u' ပါ။

/ʌ/ /ʌ/ 

/ʌ/ /ʌ/

/ʌ/ Well, here is ‘cut’. 

/ʌ/ ကောင်းပြီ၊ ဒီမှာ 'ဖြတ်'။

Well, we go ‘cut’ - now ‘cute’. Okay, we have ‘cute’. 

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ငါတို့ 'ဖြတ်' သွား - အခုတော့ 'ချစ်စရာကောင်း'။ ကောင်းပြီ၊ ငါတို့မှာ 'ချစ်စရာ' ရှိတယ်။

“Ah, look at the cute puppy.” Alright. 

"အင်း၊ ချစ်စရာခွေးလေးကို ကြည့်ပါဦး။" ကောင်းပြီ

And now, last one here. I've got ‘rip’. 

ယခုလည်း နောက်ဆုံးတစ်ခု။ ငါ့မှာ 'စုတ်' တယ်။

When you don't have scissors. All right. 

ကတ်ကြေးမရှိတဲ့အခါ။ ကောင်းပါပြီ။

Well there's ‘rip’ and then there's ‘ripe’. Long vowel /eɪ/ with the silent ‘e’. 

ဟိုမှာ 'ဆုတ်' ပြီး 'မှည့်' ရှိတယ်။ အသံတိတ် 'e' ဖြင့် သရရှည် /eɪ/။

So listen to me as I say these. We've got plane, time,  

ဒါ​ကြောင့် ငါ​ပြော​တာ​တွေ​ကို ငါ​နား​ထောင်​ပါ။ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့တွင် လေယာဉ်၊ အချိန်၊

cape, hope, tube, bite, cute, and ripe. Never did I say the ‘e’ because it's silent. 

အငူ၊ မျှော်လင့်ချက်၊ ပြွန်၊ ကိုက်၊ ချစ်စရာ၊ မှည့်များရှိသည်။ အသံတိတ်နေလို့ ဘယ်တော့မှ မပြောဖူးဘူး။

It's just there to make a long vowel. Okay. I hope that was helpful. 

သရအရှည်လုပ်ရန်သာရှိသည်။ ဟုတ်ပြီ အထောက်အကူဖြစ်မယ်လို့ မျှော်လင့်ပါတယ်။

simple pronunciation video to go through with you. Now, sometimes in English, we have silent letters. 

သင်နှင့်အတူ ဖြတ်သန်းရန် အလွန်ရိုးရှင်းသော အသံထွက် ဗီဒီယိုတစ်ခုရှိသည်။ အခုတော့ အင်္ဂလိပ်လို အသံတိတ်စာလုံးတွေ ရှိတယ်။

Now, these are letters that appear in a word  but we don't say them when we read that word. 

အခု၊ အဲဒါတွေက စကားလုံးတစ်လုံးမှာ ပေါ်လာတဲ့ စာလုံးတွေ ဖြစ်ပေမယ့် အဲဒီစကားလုံးကို ဖတ်တဲ့အခါမှာတော့ မပြောတတ်ပါဘူး။

so it can be a little difficult when  you're trying to listen or read. 

ဒါကြောင့် နားထောင်ဖို့ ဒါမှမဟုတ် ဖတ်ဖို့ ကြိုးစားတဲ့အခါ အနည်းငယ် ခက်ခဲနိုင်ပါတယ်။

And I'm just going to  explain this one idea to you. 

ပြီးတော့ ဒီအကြံလေးကို မင်းကို ငါရှင်းပြမယ်။

And that is ‘k’ before ‘n’  at the beginning of a word. 

၎င်းသည် စကားလုံးတစ်လုံး၏အစတွင် 'n' မတိုင်မီ 'k' ဖြစ်သည်။

Now, you can see all the examples behind me. 

ယခု၊ ကျွန်ုပ်၏နောက်ကွယ်ရှိ ဥပမာများအားလုံးကို သင်မြင်နိုင်သည်။

But of course, in this case, if you  see KN at the beginning of a word, 

သို့သော် ဤကိစ္စတွင်၊ သင်သည် စကားလုံးတစ်လုံး၏အစတွင် KN ကိုတွေ့ပါက၊

you do not say the ‘K’ sound. Okay. 

သင်သည် 'K' အသံကို မပြောပါ။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

Just forget the K's there. Well don't forget ,but ignore it. 

K ဆိုတာကို မေ့ထားလိုက်ပါ။ မမေ့ပါနှင့်၊ သို့သော် လျစ်လျူရှုပါ။

Okay. Don't make that sound. 

ဟုတ်ပြီ ထိုအသံကို မပြုလုပ်ပါနှင့်။

So our first one here. This word is not ‘K-now’. 

ဒါ ငါတို့ရဲ့ ပထမတစ်ခုပေါ့လေ ။ ဤစကားလုံးသည် 'K-now' မဟုတ်ပါ။

Alright. That's horrible right there. 

ကောင်းပြီ အဲဒီမှာ ကြောက်စရာကောင်းတယ်။

What you want to do is, you  just want to think ‘no’. 

လုပ်ချင်တာက 'မဟုတ်ဘူး' လို့ပဲ တွေးချင်နေတာ။

And you should know this is like,  “I know how to speak English.” 

“အင်္ဂလိပ်လိုပြောတတ်တယ်” ဆိုတာကို သင်သိထားသင့်ပါတယ်။

Alright. These are the things you ‘know’ how to d. 

ကောင်းပြီ ဒါတွေက သင်သိတဲ့ အရာတွေပါ။

It's not ‘k-now’. We just know. 

အဲဒါ 'k-now' မဟုတ်ဘူး။ ငါတို့ပဲသိတယ်။

I know how to do things. Alright. 

ငါဘယ်လိုလုပ်ရမလဲသိတယ်။ ကောင်းပြီ

And then down to ‘knowledge’. Alright. 

ပြီးမှ 'ပညာ' တဲ့။ ကောင်းပြီ

Again, no ‘K’ sound. We have ‘knowledge’. 

တစ်ဖန် 'K' အသံ မရှိတော့ပါ။ ငါတို့မှာ 'ပညာ' ရှိတယ်။

Now, ‘knowledge’ is all the things you know. If you have a lot of knowledge, you're a very  

ယခု 'ပညာ' သည် သင်သိသောအရာများဖြစ်သည်။ ဗဟုသုတတွေ အများကြီးရရင် သင်ဟာ အလွန်

smart person. Alright. 

ထက်မြက်တဲ့သူပါ။ ကောင်းပြီ

Stupid people, they have no knowledge. Okay. 

လူမိုက်၊ ပညာမရှိ၊ ဟုတ်ပြီ

Or maybe you just don't  know about a certain topic. 

ဒါမှမဟုတ် အကြောင်းအရာတစ်ခုအကြောင်း သင်မသိတာဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်။

It's like I have no knowledge  about the Chinese language. 

တရုတ်ဘာသာစကားနဲ့ ပတ်သက်ပြီး ဗဟုသုတမရှိသလိုပါပဲ။

That's a true thing. I don't know anything. 

ဒါအမှန်ပါပဲ။ ကျွန်တော် ဘာမှမသိဘူး။

All right. Next, we have ‘knight’. 

ကောင်းပါပြီ။ နောက်တစ်ခုက ငါတို့မှာ 'နိုက်' ရှိတယ်။

Now, this is not ‘night time’, like  “Oh day is finished. It's night time.” 

ယခုအချိန်သည် ညအချိန်မဟုတ်ပေ၊ “အိုးနေ့ ပြီးပြီ။ ညအချိန်ရောက်ပြီ။"

Now, if there's a ‘K’ here, this  is like the old style in England. 

အခု ဒီမှာ 'K' ရှိရင် ဒါက အင်္ဂလန်ရဲ့ ရှေးပုံစံအတိုင်းပါပဲ။

Like King Arthur and his knights. And they wear the armor and fight with swords.  

King Arthur နှင့် သူ၏ သူရဲကောင်းများကဲ့သို့ပင်။ သူတို့သည် သံချပ်ကာကို ဝတ်ဆင်ကာ ဓားဖြင့် တိုက်ခိုက်ကြသည်။

That sort of thing. That's what that night means. 

အဲဒါမျိုးပေါ့။ အဲဒီညက ဆိုလိုတာပါ။

We also have this one here. ‘knew’ 

ငါတို့မှာလည်း ဒီတစ်ခုရှိတယ်။ 'သိပြီ'

Okay Now, ‘knew’ is just the past tense of ‘know’. 

ဟုတ်ပြီ 'သိတယ်' ဆိုတာ 'သိတယ်' ရဲ့ အတိတ်ကာလပဲလေ။

It's okay, like “Many years  ago, I knew someone named Paul.” 

“လွန်ခဲ့တဲ့နှစ်ပေါင်းများစွာက ပေါလ်လို့ခေါ်တဲ့ လူတစ်ယောက်ကို ငါသိခဲ့တယ်” ကဲ့သို့ပင်။

Alright. That was in the past. 

ကောင်းပြီ အဲဒါက အရင်တုန်းကပေါ့။

I don't know him anymore but  I knew him many years ago. 

ကျွန်တော် သူ့ကို မသိပေမယ့် လွန်ခဲ့တဲ့ နှစ်ပေါင်းများစွာက သူ့ကို သိခဲ့တယ်။

All right. We also have ‘knee’. 

ကောင်းပါပြီ။ 'ဒူး' လည်းရှိတယ်။

That's a, that one right there. Okay. 

အဲဒါက ဟိုမှာ။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

It's like that middle part of  your leg, where your leg bends. 

မင်းခြေထောက်က ကွေးနေတဲ့ မင်းခြေထောက်ရဲ့ အလယ်အစိတ်နဲ့တူတယ်။

That's the ‘knee’. Again, not ‘k-nee'. 

အဲဒါ 'ဒူး'။ တဖန် 'k-nee' မဟုတ်ပါ။

Remember that. Now, ‘kneel’. 

အဲဒါကို သတိရပါ။ အခု 'ဒူးထောက်'။

Very similar to ‘knee’. Just plus an ‘L’. 

'ဒူး' နှင့် အလွန်တူသည်။ 'L' နဲ့ ပေါင်းလိုက်ရုံပါပဲ။

Now ‘kneel’. It's now sometimes people sit down on a chair, 

အခု 'ဒူးထောက်'။ တခါတရံ လူတွေက ကုလားထိုင်ပေါ်မှာ ထိုင်ကြ

but then kneel just means  to go down on your knees. 

ပေမယ့် ဒူးထောက်ပြီး ဒူးထောက်လိုက်ဖို့ ဆိုလိုတာ။

Okay. Probably because you don't have a chair. 

ဟုတ်ပြီ သင့်တွင် ကုလားထိုင်မရှိသောကြောင့် ဖြစ်နိုင်သည်။

So you have to kneel on the floor. Down on your knees. 

ဒါကြောင့် ကြမ်းပြင်ပေါ်မှာ ဒူးထောက်ရပါမယ်။ ဒူးထောက်လျက်။

Okay. Another one, ‘knife’. 

ဟုတ်ပြီ နောက်တစ်ယောက်က 'ဓား'။

Very simple. You have to cut something. 

အလွန်ရိုးရှင်းပါသည်။ တစ်ခုခုကို ဖြတ်ရမယ်။

‘knife’ Okay. 

'ဓား' ဟုတ်ပြီ။

If you ever cook food or prepare food you  might need a knife to cut your vegetables. 

အစားအသောက် ချက်ပြုတ်ဖူးတာ ဒါမှမဟုတ် အစားအသောက်ပြင်ဆင်ရင် အသီးအရွက်တွေကို လှီးဖြတ်ဖို့ ဓားတစ်ချောင်းလိုပါတယ်။

So remember, not ‘K-nife’, just ‘knife’. After that, another example is ‘knit’. 

ဒါကြောင့် 'K-nife' မဟုတ်ဘဲ 'ဓား' ကိုသာ သတိရပါ။ အဲဒီနောက်၊ နောက်ထပ် ဥပမာတစ်ခုကတော့ 'knit' ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

Okay. You know if you have a  

ဟုတ်ပြီ သင့်တွင် လက်လုပ်ပဝါတစ်ထည်ရှိလျှင်

handmade scarf or maybe a handmade  sweater that means you knit the scarf. 

သို့မဟုတ် ပဝါကို ချည်ထားသည်ဟု ဆိုလိုသည့် လက်လုပ်ဆွယ်တာ ဖြစ်နိုင်သည်ကို သင်သိပါသည်။

Okay. It's the old style - making a scarf. 

ဟုတ်ပြီ ပဝါလုပ်ခြင်းသည် ရှေးပုံစံဖြစ်သည်။

You knit the scarf - handmade style. Alright. 

ပဝါ - လက်လုပ်စတိုင်လ်ကို သင်ချည်လိုက်ပါ။ ကောင်းပြီ

Then there's ‘knob’. All right. 

ပြီးရင် 'ခလုတ်' ရှိတယ်။ ကောင်းပါပြီ။

Now ‘knob’ is on some doors. Some doors have a handle,  

ယခုအခါ တံခါးအချို့တွင် 'ခလုတ်' ရှိသည်။ အချို့တံခါးများတွင် လက်ကိုင်ပါရှိသော်လည်း

but some doors have a knob. And this is you grab it and just turn it.

Okay. Sometimes in English, we have

words that have letters we don't pronounce. We call them silent letters. 

အသံထွက်မရတဲ့ စာလုံးတွေရှိတယ်။ အဲဒါတွေကို အသံတိတ်စာတွေလို့ခေါ်တယ်။

And, well, right here, I'm going to tell you  about how the letter P can sometimes be silent. 

ပြီးတော့ ဒီမှာ စာလုံး P က တစ်ခါတလေ နှုတ်ဆိတ်နေပုံအကြောင်း ပြောပြမယ်။

Now, this happens when the word begins with  the letter P but then it is followed by another  

ယခု စကားလုံးသည် P ဖြင့် အစပြုသော်လည်း ၎င်းနောက်တွင် အခြား

consonant. Now, this is when we ignore the letter  P and we do not actually pronounce that letter.

Okay. The P is silent.

That you know … when you're  breathing, you can get sick.

It's more common in the wintertime. And it's kind of serious.

So if you do have pneumonia, I hope you're  seeing a doctor, getting help for that. 

ဒါကြောင့် သင့်မှာ နမိုးနီးယားရှိနေရင် ဆရာဝန်နဲ့ပြသပြီး အကူအညီရယူဖို့ မျှော်လင့်ပါတယ်။

But please, the help I can give  you is don't say, “pu-neumonia.” 

ဒါပေမယ့် ကျေးဇူးပြုပြီး ငါပေးနိုင်တဲ့အကူအညီက "pu-neumonia" လို့ မပြောပါနဲ့။

Just say, “pneumonia” And remember it's a lung sickness. 

“နမိုးနီးယား” ဟုသာပြောပြီး ၎င်းသည် အဆုတ်ရောဂါဖြစ်ကြောင်း သတိရပါ။

When you're breathing, it's  kind of like all right here.

Okay. Now, the next one here.

you should pronounce it ‘psalm’. Remember, we have a silent ‘p’,

so just pronounce the ‘s’. Now, actually for the rest of these,

you notice PS is getting very common. Because as you look at the next one here,  

PS က အရမ်းအသုံးများလာတာကို သင်သတိထားမိတယ်။ ဘာဖြစ်လို့လဲဆိုတော့ နောက်တစ်ခုက ဒီမှာကြည့်တဲ့

‘psychology’. Okay. 

'စိတ်ပညာ'။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

Now, ‘psychology’ is a subject that maybe  you or someone you know studies in school. 

ယခု 'စိတ်ပညာ' သည် သင် သို့မဟုတ် သင်သိသော ကျောင်းတွင် သင်လေ့လာနေသည့် ဘာသာရပ်တစ်ခုဖြစ်သည်။

‘psychology’ is all about how people think. It's like the way the mind works.

They've studied psychology all through university. They know psychology.

emotional problems or things like that. But, yes, so a psychiatrist studied psychology. 

ကူညီပေးတယ် ။ ဒါပေမယ့် ဟုတ်တယ်၊ ဒါကြောင့် စိတ်ရောဂါကုဆရာဝန်က စိတ်ပညာကို လေ့လာခဲ့တယ်။

Now, also similar, we have the ‘psychic’. Now, ‘psychic’ doesn't study psychology. 

အခုလည်း အလားတူပါပဲ၊ ငါတို့မှာ 'စိတ်' ရှိတယ်။ ယခု 'စိတ်ပညာ' သည် စိတ်ပညာကို မလေ့လာတော့ပါ။

The psychic is more of a fortune-teller. If you're curious, or you want to get an idea

in them who's causing problems for other people. So, yeah, we have that the psycho person. 

တခြားသူတွေကို ပြဿနာဖြစ်စေတဲ့ စိတ်ပိုင်းဆိုင်ရာ ဇာတ်ကောင်တွေ ပါဝင်ပါတယ်။ ဟုတ်တယ်၊ ငါတို့မှာ အဲဒီ စိတ်ရောဂါရှိသူရှိတယ်။

It's kind of, maybe even a  little crazy here, but okay.

So as you notice, PS very  common, but don't say the P.
