Nice to MEET You | Nice to SEE you | Learn Basic English Speaking Expressions

Hi this is Bill.

こんにちは、ビルです。

And right now I’m gonna explain  to you about a speaking problem 

そして今から 、私が韓国に来てから何度も見聞きしてきた

that I have seen and heard far too many times since I came to Korea. 

スピーキングの問題について説明します 。

Now, it's very easy phrase. The simple phrase, “Nice to meet you.” 

さて、とても簡単な言葉です。 「はじめまして」というシンプルな一言。

You probably know it. You’ve probably said it. 

おそらくご存知でしょう。おそらくそう言ったことがあるでしょう。

But the problem is so many Korean people don’t 

しかし問題は、多くの韓国人が

understand when to really use  the phrase “Nice to meet you.” 

「初めまして」というフレーズを実際にいつ使うべきかを理解していないことです。

Because when you meet somebody new that means you told them your name. 

なぜなら、新しい人に会うということは、その人に自分の名前を告げたことを意味するからです。

They told you their name. Many times I’m just walking down the street, 

彼らはあなたに自分の名前を言いました。 買い物か何かで

you know, I’m shopping or something and then a Korean person says,

道を歩いている と、韓国人が

“Hi, nice to meet you.” And I think …

「こんにちは、初めまして」と言ってくることがよくあります。そして私は思う…

I don’t know your name. I didn’t tell you my name.

あなたの名前を知りません。私の名前は言いませんでした。

We didn’t meet. How could it be nice? 

私たちは会わなかった。どうしたらいいでしょうか？

So, you look at the board right here, 

それで、ここのボードを見てください、

This. Here I am Bill "hi". 

これ。ビル「こんにちは」です。

Korean person "Nice to meet you."

韓国人「初めまして。」

There is no "Hi, my name's Bill."

「こんにちは、私の名前はビルです」という言葉はありません。

“My name is Han, nice to meet you.”

「私の名前はハンです、よろしくお願いします。」

There’s not that.

そんなことはありません。

Just Bill says, "hi."

ビルが「こんにちは」と言うだけです。

Korean person says, "Nice to meet you."

韓国人は「初めまして」と言います。

But we didn't meet each other.

でも、私たちは会わなかった。

You don’t know my name. I don’t know your name! 

あなたは私の名前を知りません。あなたの名前が分かりません！

Don't be that guy. Okay? 

そんな男にはならないでください。わかった？

The proper way to do this now. Here is a sample dialog where you use the  

今これを行うための適切な方法。 ここでは 、「初めまして」という簡単なフレーズを適切に

easy phrase “Nice to meet you” properly.

使用するサンプルダイアログを示します 。

It goes like this.

こんなふうになります。

Bill oh that's me.

ビル、ああ、それは私だ。

Bill says "Hi".

ビルは「こんにちは」と言います。

And then the Korean person says. "Hello, my name is Han."

すると韓国人はこう言いました。 「こんにちは、私の名前はハンです。」

"Oh! My name is Bill."

「ああ！私の名前はビルです。」 もしかしたら

Maybe we shake hands

「初めまして」と 握手をするかも

"Nice to meet you." Yes! 

知れません。 はい！

Because you did meet me.

だってあなたは私に会ったのですから。

And then after one more I say,

そしてもう一度言います、

"Nice to meet you, too."

「あなたもよろしくね」。

because you met me, I met you.

あなたが私に出会ったから、私もあなたに出会ったのです。

You said your name. I said my name. 

あなたは自分の名前を言いました。私は自分の名前を言いました。

If you didn’t learn the new person's name, and you didn’t tell them yours, 

新しい人の名前を知らなかったし、自分の名前を教えなかった場合、

you didn’t meet them. So, it can’t be "Nice to meet you." 

その人に会ったことはありません。だから、「初めまして」ではありえないのです。

Ok, remember that.

わかりました、覚えておいてください。

Exchange names - then “Nice to meet you.”

名前を交換し、「初めまして」。

Don’t just say "Hi, nice to meet you." Because you didn’t meet me yet.

「こんにちは、初めまして」だけではいけません。だって、あなたはまだ私に会っていないのですから。

Now, two phrases here. Now, the first one is

“Nice to meet you.” That's an easy phrase

that many Korean people know.

But I just want to remind you, we use “Nice to meet you”

簡単なフレーズです 。ただし、思い出していただきたいのですが、私たちは

when you  meet a new person for the first time.

新しい人に初めて会うときに 「初めまして」を使います 。

Okay? Something like, “Hello, my name is John.” 

わかった？ 「こんにちは、私の名前はジョンです。」のようなものです。

“Hello, my name is Tom.” “Nice to meet you.” 

「こんにちは、私の名前はトムです。」 "はじめまして。"

“Nice to meet you, too.”

"私の方もお会いできてうれしいです。"

You tell someone your name.

あなたは誰かに自分の名前を教えます。

They tell you their name.

彼らは自分の名前を教えてくれます。

“Nice to meet you.”

"はじめまして。"

Because you learned each other's names.

お互いの名前を覚えたからです。

That's when you say, “Nice to meet you.”

そんな時は「初めまして」と言うのです。

Now, you need to remember that  you only say “Nice to meet you”

ここで、「初めまして」と言うのは、

the first time you meet that person. Okay? 

その人に初めて会ったときだけであることを覚えておく必要があります。わかった？

If you see them again, two days later, don't say, “Hi, nice to meet you.” 

2日後にまた会ったとしても、「こんにちは、初めまして」とは言わないでください。

because it's not your first meeting anymore. Okay? 

もう初対面ではないからです。わかった？

Some of my students I've been teaching  them for over a month right now, 

私の生徒の中には、私が 1 か月以上教えている人もいます

but I still walk into the classroom and they're like, “Bill, nice to meet you.” 

が、それでも教室に入ると、「ビル、初めまして」という感じです。

And I just think to myself, “You see me every day  and we've we met each other a long time ago.” 

そして私はただ心の中でこう思います、「あなたは毎日私に会います、そして私たちはずっと前に会ったことがあります。」

Now, if it's not the first  time you're meeting someone, 

さて、初めて会う人ではなく、

if it's someone you're seeing again,

また会う人であれば、

“Nice to see you.”

「初めまして」。

Okay?

わかった？

It's not “Nice to meet you.” You don't say “Nice to meet you” to  your friends who you see many times.

「初めまして」ではありません。何度も会う友達に「初めまして」とは言いません。

Alright? But if you see your friends on the weekend, 

大丈夫？しかし、週末に友達に会った場合は、

“Nice to see you”

「 初めまして」

because “Nice to meet you.”

なので「Nice to see you」です。

You only get to do that once.

それをできるのは一度だけです。

That's the first time you meet a new person.

新しい人に出会うのはそれが初めてです。

For your friends, and other people, always “Nice to see you.”

友達や他の人たちには、いつも「初めまして」。

Okay. I hope you can remember the difference.
