Nice to MEET You | Nice to SEE you | Learn Basic English Speaking Expressions

안녕하세요 빌입니다.

And right now I’m gonna explain  to you about a speaking problem 

그리고 지금부터 제가 한국에 온 이후로 너무 많이 보고 들었던

that I have seen and heard far too many times since I came to Korea. 

말하기 문제에 대해 설명하겠습니다 .

Now, it's very easy phrase. The simple phrase, “Nice to meet you.” 

자, 아주 쉬운 말입니다. “만나서 반가워요”라는 간단한 문구.

You probably know it. You’ve probably said it. 

당신은 아마 그것을 알고 있습니다. 아마 당신은 그렇게 말했을 것입니다.

But the problem is so many Korean people don’t 

그런데 문제는 너무 많은 한국 사람들이

understand when to really use  the phrase “Nice to meet you.” 

"만나서 반가워요"라는 표현을 언제 사용해야 하는지 이해하지 못한다는 것입니다.

Because when you meet somebody new that means you told them your name. 

왜냐하면 새로운 사람을 만난다는 것은 그 사람에게 이름을 알려줬다는 의미이기 때문입니다.

They told you their name. Many times I’m just walking down the street, 

그들은 당신에게 그들의 이름을 말했습니다. 제가 길을 걷고 있을 때,

you know, I’m shopping or something and then a Korean person says,

쇼핑을 하고 있을 때 한국 사람이

“Hi, nice to meet you.” And I think …

“안녕하세요, 만나서 반가워요”라고 말하는 경우가 많습니다. 그리고 내 생각에는...

I don’t know your name. I didn’t tell you my name.

나는 당신의 이름을 모릅니다. 나는 당신에게 내 이름을 말하지 않았습니다.

We didn’t meet. How could it be nice? 

우리는 만나지 않았습니다. 어떻게 좋을 수 있니?

So, you look at the board right here, 

자, 여기 칠판을 보세요

This. Here I am Bill "hi". 

. 저는 빌 "안녕"입니다.

Korean person "Nice to meet you."

한국인 "반갑습니다."

There is no "Hi, my name's Bill."

"안녕하세요. 제 이름은 빌입니다."라는 말은 없습니다.

“My name is Han, nice to meet you.”

“제 이름은 한이에요. 만나서 반가워요.”

There’s not that.

그런 건 없습니다.

Just Bill says, "hi."

Bill이 "안녕하세요"라고 말했어요.

Korean person says, "Nice to meet you."

한국 사람이 "만나서 반가워요"라고 말해요.

But we didn't meet each other.

하지만 우리는 서로 만나지 않았습니다.

You don’t know my name. I don’t know your name! 

당신은 내 이름을 몰라요. 나는 당신의 이름을 모른다!

Don't be that guy. Okay? 

그런 사람이 되지 마세요. 좋아요?

The proper way to do this now. Here is a sample dialog where you use the  

지금 이 작업을 수행하는 적절한 방법입니다. 다음은

easy phrase “Nice to meet you” properly.

"만나서 반가워요"라는 쉬운 문구를 적절하게

It goes like this.

사용하는 샘플 대화입니다 . 이렇습니다.

Bill oh that's me.

빌 아 그게 나야.

Bill says "Hi".

빌은 "안녕하세요"라고 말했습니다.

And then the Korean person says. "Hello, my name is Han."

그러자 한국 사람이 말합니다. "안녕하세요, 제 이름은 한이에요."

"Oh! My name is Bill."

"오! 내 이름은 빌이에요."

Maybe we shake hands

어쩌면 우리는 "만나서 반가워요"라고

"Nice to meet you." Yes! 

악수를 할 수도 있습니다 . 예!

Because you did meet me.

당신이 나를 만났기 때문입니다.

And then after one more I say,

그리고 한 번 더 말한 뒤

"Nice to meet you, too."

"저도 만나서 반가워요"라고 말해요.

because you met me, I met you.

당신이 나를 만났기 때문에 나도 당신을 만났습니다.

You said your name. I said my name. 

당신은 당신의 이름을 말했습니다. 나는 내 이름을 말했다.

If you didn’t learn the new person's name, and you didn’t tell them yours, 

새로운 사람의 이름을 모르고 자신의 이름도 알려주지 않았다면

you didn’t meet them. So, it can’t be "Nice to meet you." 

그 사람을 만난 것이 아닙니다. 그러므로 "만나서 반가워요"라고 할 수는 없습니다.

Ok, remember that.

알겠습니다. 기억해두세요.

Exchange names - then “Nice to meet you.”

이름을 교환한 다음 "만나서 반가워요"라고 말합니다.

Don’t just say "Hi, nice to meet you." Because you didn’t meet me yet.

단지 "안녕하세요, 만나서 반가워요"라고 말하지 마세요. 왜냐하면 당신은 아직 나를 만나지 않았기 때문입니다.

I hope you can remember that. And I hope that helps you. 

나는 당신이 그것을 기억할 수 있기를 바랍니다. 그리고 그것이 당신에게 도움이 되기를 바랍니다.

Now, two phrases here. Now, the first one is  

이제 여기에 두 개의 문구가 있습니다. 이제 첫 번째는

“Nice to meet you.” That's an easy phrase  

“만나서 반갑습니다.” 입니다.

that many Korean people know.

많은 한국인들이 알고 있는 쉬운 표현입니다

But I just want to remind you, we use “Nice to meet you”

. 하지만 다시 한번 말씀드리고 싶은 점은, 새로운 사람을 처음 만날 때

when you  meet a new person for the first time.

“만나서 반가워요”라는 말을 사용한다는 것입니다 .

Okay? Something like, “Hello, my name is John.” 

좋아요? “안녕하세요, 제 이름은 존이에요.” 같은 말이에요.

“Hello, my name is Tom.” “Nice to meet you.” 

“안녕하세요, 제 이름은 톰이에요.” "만나서 반가워요."

“Nice to meet you, too.”

"저도 만나서 반가워요."

You tell someone your name.

당신은 누군가에게 당신의 이름을 말해줍니다.

They tell you their name.

그들은 당신에게 그들의 이름을 말해줍니다.

“Nice to meet you.”

"만나서 반가워요."

Because you learned each other's names.

서로의 이름을 알았기 때문이다.

That's when you say, “Nice to meet you.”

그럴 때 “만나서 반가워요”라고 말하세요.

Now, you need to remember that  you only say “Nice to meet you”

이제 그 사람을 처음 만났을 때

the first time you meet that person. Okay? 

“만나서 반가워요”라고만 말한다는 것을 기억해야 합니다 . 좋아요?

If you see them again, two days later, don't say, “Hi, nice to meet you.” 

이틀 후에 그들을 다시 만나면 “안녕하세요, 만나서 반가워요”라고 말하지 마세요.

because it's not your first meeting anymore. Okay? 

이제 더 이상 첫 만남이 아니기 때문입니다. 좋아요?

Some of my students I've been teaching  them for over a month right now, 

제가 한 달 넘게 가르쳐온 학생들 중 일부는

but I still walk into the classroom and they're like, “Bill, nice to meet you.” 

여전히 교실에 들어와서 "Bill, 만나서 반가워요."라고 말하더군요.

And I just think to myself, “You see me every day  and we've we met each other a long time ago.” 

그리고 저는 속으로 '당신은 나를 매일 보고 있고 우리는 오래 전에 만났어요.'라고 생각합니다.

Now, if it's not the first  time you're meeting someone, 

이제 처음 만나는 사람이 아니라면,

if it's someone you're seeing again,

다시 만나는 사람이라면

“Nice to see you.”

“반가워요”라고 말해보세요.

Okay?

좋아요?

It's not “Nice to meet you.” You don't say “Nice to meet you” to  your friends who you see many times.

“만나서 반가워요”가 아닙니다. 자주 만나는 친구들에게는 “만나서 반가워요”라는 말을 하지 않습니다.

Alright? But if you see your friends on the weekend, 

괜찮은? 그런데 주말에 친구를 만나면

“Nice to see you”

“만나서 반가워요”

because “Nice to meet you.”

이기 때문에 “만나서 반가워요”라고 합니다.

You only get to do that once.

그건 한 번만 하면 됩니다.

That's the first time you meet a new person.

새로운 사람을 만나는 것은 그때가 처음이다.

For your friends, and other people, always “Nice to see you.”

친구와 다른 사람들을 위해 항상 "만나서 반가워요"라고 말하세요.
