In all times and places in our history,

At first he thought the problem

In a flash, he realized

แต่พระมูฮัมหมัดเป็นพ่อค้า ไม่ใช่นักกวี

Many agreed the verses

หลายคนจึงเชื่อว่าโคลงเหล่านั้น

were indeed the words of God,

เป็นพระวจนะจากพระเจ้าจริง ๆ

and these believers became the first Muslims.

ผู้ที่มีความเชื่อเหล่านี้ กลายเป็นชาวมุสลิมกลุ่มแรก

The word Muslim means one who surrenders,

คำว่ามุสลิมแปลว่าผู้ภักดี

meaning a person who submits to the will of God.

หมายถึงผู้ที่เชื่อฟังพระประสงค์ ของพระผู้เป็นเจ้า

A Muslim's five most important duties

ฐานบัญญัติห้าประการ

are called the Five Pillars:

หรือหน้าที่สำคัญของชาวมุสลิมได้แก่

Shahada, Muslims declare publicly,

ชาฮาดา คือการปฏิญาณตนของชาวมุสลิมที่ว่า

there is no other God but Allah,

ไม่มีพระเจ้าอื่นใดอีกนอกจากพระอัลลอฮ์

and Muhammad is his final prophet;

และพระมูฮัมหมัด คือศาสดาองค์สุดท้ายของพระองค์

Salat, they pray five times a day facing Mecca;

ซาลัต คือทำละหมาดวันละห้าครั้ง โดยหันหน้าไปทางกรุงเมกกะ

Zakat, every Muslim is required

ซะกาต คือชาวมุสลิมทุกคน

to give 2 or 3% of their net worth to the poor;

ต้องบริจาครายได้สุทธิ ร้อยละ 2 ถึง 3 ให้กับผู้ยากไร้

Sawm, they fast during daylight hours

เซาว์ คือพวกเขาต้องอดอาหาร ระหว่างช่วงเวลาที่ตะวันยังไม่ตกดิน

for the lunar month of Ramadan

to strengthen their willpower

and Hajj, once in a lifetime,

every Muslim who is able must make a pilgrimage

to the holy city of Mecca,

rehearsing for the time

when they will stand before God

The words of God,

revealed to the prophet over 23 years,

which literally translates into "the recitation."

Muslims believe it to be the only holy book

ชาวมุสลิมเชื่อว่า นี่คือคัมภีร์ศักดิ์สิทธิ์เพียงเล่มเดียว

free of human corruption.

It's also considered by many

to be the finest work of literature

in the Arabic language.

Islam is the world's second largest religion,

practiced by over one and a half billion Muslims around the globe.

Religion has been an aspect of culture

and there are countless variations of its practice.

But common to all religions

is an appeal for meaning

beyond the empty vanities

and lowly realities of existence,

beyond sin,

เหนือกว่าบาป

suffering,

ความทุกข์

and death,

และความตาย

beyond fear,

เหนือความกลัว

and beyond ourselves.

และเหนือกว่าตัวเราเอง
