And in fact, making things using technology --

making things actually does give me a lot of joy.

It's the process of creation that keeps me

sort of a bubble and a half above perpetual anxiety in my life,

It's a chance for people to get to play with crayons

But I'm interested in the process of creating,

as the real event that I'm interested in.

And the problem is that a lot of people suck at drawing,

and they get bummed out at this, sort of, you know, stick figure,

awful little thing that they created.

작고 못생긴 작대기 같은 것에 낙담합니다.

And eventually, it just makes them stop playing with it,

or they draw penises and things like that.

So, the Scribbler is an attempt to create a generative tool.

스크리블러는 창작프로그램에 대한 새로운 시도인데요

In other words, it's a helping tool.

You can draw your simple stick figure,

여러분이 간단하게 줄만 그어놓으시면 이게 알아서 여러분이

and it collaborates with you to create sort of a post-war German etching.

전후 독일 동판화처럼 그리는 것을 도와줍니다.

In fact, it's tuned to be better at drawing things that look worse.

여러분은 이상해 보이는 그림보다 더 잘 그릴 수 있습니다

So, we go ahead, and we start scribbling.

So the idea is that you can really,

you know, partake in this process,

but watch something really crappy look beautiful.

An 11-year-old girl drew this and submitted it.

등록했다는 겁니다. 정말로 멋지죠

It's just gorgeous.

I'm dead serious here.

전 정말 심각하게 말씀드리는 겁니다. 정말 농담이 아닙니다

This is not a joke.

But, I think it's a really fun and wonderful thing.

전 이것들이 재미있고 아름다운 것이라 생각합니다.

So this is called the "Fiction Project."

이건 픽션 프로젝트라고 불리는 겁니다. 온라인 상에

This is an online space,

which is basically a refurbished message board

새롭게 만든 메세지 보드인데요

that encourages collaborative fiction writing.

사람들이 협력해서 소설을 쓸 수 있도록 해주지요

These are haikus.

이건 하이쿠들입니다

None of the haikus were written by the same person.

이 하이쿠들은 한 사람이 쓴 게 아닙니다

In fact, each line is contributed by a different person

사실, 한 행도--

각각의 행은 각자 다른 사람들이 쓴겁니다

at a different time.

각자 다른 시간에 말이죠

I think that the "now tied up, tied down,

저는 "조여졌다 느슨해졌다

mistress cruel approaches me, now tied down, it's up."

'잔인한 주인님'이 내게 다가 오셨다. 이제 느슨해졌다 끝났다"

It's an amazing way, and I'll tell you,

이 시가 정말 대단하다 생각합니다, 계속 말씀드리죠.

if you come home, and your spouse, or whoever it is,

집에 가셨는데 배우자분이나 누구든

says, "Let's talk" --

여러분께 "얘기 좀 하자"라고 말한다면 상당히 오싹하시겠죠

That, like, chills you to the very core.

(Laughter)

But it's peripheral activities like these

하지만 이건 별 의미없는 행동이지요

that allow people to get together, doing fun things.

사람들이 친하게 뭉칠수 있도록 해주지요 재밌는 일들로요

They actually get to know each other,

실제로 서로를 알 수 있게 되지요.

and it's sort of like low-threshold peripheral activities

전 이런 약간의 자극적인 의미없는 행동들이

that I think are the key to bringing up

우리들에게 부족한 사회적 결합을 만들어 줄 수 있는

some of our bonding social capital that we're lacking.

And very, very quickly -- I love puppets.

전 인형들을 좋아합니다. 여기 인형이 있지요

Lotte Reiniger, an amazing shadow puppeteer in the 20s,

20년대의 놀라운 인형극 감독인 로테 라이니거씨는

that started doing more elaborate things.

인형들의 더욱 정교한 동작들을 가능하게 하였죠.

I became interested in puppets,

이 덕에 인형에 관심을 갖게 되었지요

and I just want to show one last thing to you.

마지막으로 보여드리고 싶은게 있네요

Oh, this is how you make puppets.
