My siblings and I grew up on our great-grandfather's farm

For 23 years, my working life was with Yvon Chouinard.

I know that progress is viewed, generally, in very positive terms,

The idea of buying private land and then donating it

Through our family foundation,

we began to acquire wildlife habitat in Chile and Argentina.

Here's an example.

When we purchased one of the largest ranches

it looked like this.

For a century, this land had been overgrazed by livestock,

Every human life is affected by the actions

كل حياة بشرية تتأثر بأفعال

of every other human life around the globe.

كل حياة بشرية أخرى حول العالم.

And the fate of humanity is tied to the health of the planet.

ومصير البشرية مرتبط بصحة الكوكب.

We have a common destiny.

لدينا مصير مشترك.

We can flourish

يمكن أنْ نزدهر

or we can suffer ...

أو يمكن أن نعاني...

But we're going to be doing it together.

لكننا سنقوم بذلك معًا.

So here's the truth.

لذا هذه هي الحقيقة.

We're so far past the point when individual action is an elective.

لقد تجاوزنا المرحلة التي يكون فيها العمل الفردي اختياريًّا.

In my opinion, it's a moral imperative

برأيي فإنَّ ذلك واجب أخلاقي

that every single one of us

بأنّ كل واحد فينا

steps up to reimagine our place in the circle of life.

يتحمّل مسؤولية أكبر لإعادة تصوّر مكاننا في دائرة الحياة.

Not in the center, but as part of the whole.

ليس في المركز، ولكن كجزء من الكل.

We need to remember

علينا أنْ نتذكّر

that what we do reflects who we choose to be.

بأنَّ ما نفعله يعكس ما نريد أنْ نكون عليه.

Let's create a civilization

دعونا ننشئ حضارة تقدّر القيمة الجوهريّة لكل الحياة.

that honors the intrinsic value of all life.

No matter who you are,

بغض النظر عن من تكون،

no matter what you have to work with,

بغض النظر عن ما يجب عليك العمل معه،

get out of bed every single morning,

انهض من الفراش كل صباح،

and do something that has nothing to do with yourself,

وقم بعمل شيء ليس له أي علاقة بك،

but rather having everything to do with those things you love.

ولكن بالأحرى قم بعمل كل شيء لأمورٍ تحبّها.

With those things you know to be true.

لأمورٍ أنتَ توقن أنّها صحيحة.

Be someone who imagines human progress

كن شخصًا يتخيّل التّقدّم البشري

to be something that moves us toward wholeness.

على أنّه شيء يقودنا إلى الكمال.

Toward health.

إلى الصّحة.

Toward human dignity.

إلى الكرامة الإنسانيّة.

And always,

ودائمًا،

and forever,

وللأبد،

wild beauty.
