Once, a long time ago,

ڕۆژێک، زۆر لەمەوبەر،

there was a powerful hermit named Lok Ta Moni Eysei.

ڕەبەندێکی بەهێز دەبێت بە ناوی لوک تا مونی ئیسی دەبێت.

He had three promising students:

مامۆستای سێ فیرخوازی زیرەک دەبێت:

Moni Mekhala, the brilliant goddess of the seas,

مونی ماکیلا، خواوەندی بەتوانایی زەریاکان،

Vorachhun, the princely manifestation of the earth,

ڤۆرۆچۆن، شازادەی بەرپرسی دیمەنی زەوی،

and Ream Eyso, a demon whose heart burned with passionate fire.

و ریام ئیسۆ، ئەهریمەن، کە دڵی بە بەردەوامی بە ئاگرەوە دەسوتا.

Lok Ta wished to bestow a gift upon his most deserving student.

لوک تا دەیویست بەنرخترین دیاری ببەخشێتە باشترین فێرخوازەکانی.

To determine which of the three that was, he announced a contest:

بۆ ئەوەی بزانێت کامەیان باشترین فێرخوازە، پێشبڕکێیەک پێشنیاز دەکات،

whoever first brought back a glass full of morning dew

هەر فێرخوازێک زووتر پەرداغێک لە شەونمی بەیانی بهێنێتەوە

would be master of this mysterious gift.

دەبێتە خاوەنی دیارییە نەزانراوە بەنرخەکە.

When dusk came, Vorachhun and Ream Eyso ventured into the forest.

کاتێک چێشتەنگاو گەیشت، ڤۆرۆچۆن و ئیسۆ بەرەو دارستان بە ڕێ کەوتن.

They left not one leaf or blade of grass untouched,

شەونمی سەر ڕووی یەک گیا و گەڵا نەما کۆی نەکەنەوە،

impatiently shaking the precious fluid into their glasses.

پەشۆکاوانە شلەکەیان دەخستە ناو پەرداغەکان.

When they returned to the hermit’s hut,

کاتێک دەگەڕێنەوە ماڵی ڕەبەنەکە،

they found Moni Mekhala sitting patiently with a full glass of morning dew.

سەیریان کرد میکهاڵا بە بەرداغێکی پڕ لە شەونمی بەیانیانەوە دانیشتووە.

She had left her shawl out overnight

بە درێژایی شەو شاڵی سەر شانی لە دەرەوە بەجێ دەهێڵێت

and won the contest by simply wringing out the fabric over her glass.

بەیانی شاڵەکە دەکوشێت، بەرداغەکە پڕ دەبێت و پێشبڕکێیەکە بەم شێوە دەباتەوە.

Proud of all his students, and loving them like his own children,

چونکە شانازی بە فێرخوازەکانی دەکرد و وەک منداڵی خۆی سەیری دەکردن،

Lok Ta surprised all three with gifts.

لوک تا دیاری بە هەر سێکیان دەبەخشێت.

He turned the dew Ream Eyso collected into a diamond axe,

ئەو شەونمەی ریم ئیسۆ کۆی کردبووەوە، دەگۆڕێت بۆ تورێکی ئەڵماسی،

Vorachhun’s into a magic dagger,

شەونمەکەی ڤۆرۆچۆن دەکاتە خەنجەر،

and Moni Mekhala’s into a crystal ball unlike anything ever seen.

و شەونمەکەی ماکهالا دەگۆڕێت بۆ تۆپێکی کریستاڵی بێ هاوتا.

Soon Ream Eyso grew covetous and decided he must have Mekhala’s prize.

ریم ئیسۆ ئیرەی دەکات و پێی وایە دەبوو ئەو دیاریەکەی ماکهالا بەدەست بهێنێت.

He and Vorachhun tried to woo the goddess so they could get the precious gem.

ئەو و ڤۆرۆچۆن هەوڵیان دا کە خواوەندەکە ڕازی بکەن دیاریەکی خۆی پێیان ببەخشێت.

But after she rejected their advances and flew off,

بەڵام دوای ئەوەی داواکەیانی ڕەت کردەوە، ماکهالا ڕادەکات

Ream Eyso resolved to take the crystal ball by force.

ریم ئیسۆ سوڕ بوو ئەگەر بە هێزیش بێت تۆپەکە بە دەست بهێنێت.

Ream Eyso flew through the air in search of Moni Mekhala,

ریم ئیسۆ بە ناو هەوادا دەفڕێت و وێڵی دۆزینەوەی ماکهالا دەبێت،

propelled on by a jealous rage.

پەستی باڵی بەسەردا دەکێشێت.

On his way, he encountered Vorachhun and attacked him,

لە ڕێگەدا، تووشی ڤۆرۆچۆن دەبێت و هێرشی دەکاتە سەر،

knowing that the righteous prince would never allow him to steal the crystal.

چونکە دەیزانی کە شازادە حەق بێژەکە، ڕێگە بە دزینی تۆپە کریستالییەکە نادات.

The demon gained the upper hand in the heat of battle,

لە گەرمەی شەڕەکەدا، ئەهریمەن باڵا دەست بوو،

and hurled Vorachhun against the side of a mountain.

ڤۆرۆچۆن بە لای ڕوی شاخێکدا دەکێشێت.

Sure of Vorachhun’s death,

دوای دڵنیا بوون لە مردنی ڤۆرۆچۆن،

Ream Eyso continued his search until he finally found Moni Mekhala.

ریم ئیسۆ بەردەوام دەبێت تا ماکهالا دەدۆزێتەوە.

He demanded that she and her friends either submit to him,

داوای لێدەکات کە ئەو و هاوڕێکانی گوێڕایەڵی ببن

the most brilliant of Lok Ta’s students and rightful master of the crystal ball,

وەک زیرەکترین فێرخوازی لوک تا و خاوەنی تۆپە کریستاڵییەکە بیناسێنن،

or die like Vorachhun.

یان دەبێت وەک ماکهالا بمرن.

Mekhala, without fear, refused and flew off into the clouds,

ماکهالا بەبێ ترس داواکەی ڕەت دەکاتەوە و بەرەو هەورەکان دەفڕێت،

hoping to draw the demon away from her friends.

هیوادارە ئەهریمەن لە هاوڕێەکانی دوور بخاتەوە.

Ream Eyso took the bait, ripping through nimbus after nimbus in his crazed pursuit.

ریم ئیسۆ سەرشێتانە کەوتە کوشتنی هاوڕێ پەرییە فڕیوەکانی ماکهالا.

Once far enough away, Mekhala confronted her pursuer.

دوای ئەوەی باش دوور کەوتنەوە، ماکهالا و ریم ئیسۆ ڕوبەڕوی یەکتر بوونەوە.

Ream Eyso made one last demand but the goddess remained unfazed.

ریم ئیسۆ بۆ دواجار داواکەی خستەڕوو، بەڵام دوبارە ڕەت کرایەوە.

Enraged, he began to swing his diamond axe.

توڕە دەبێت و تەورە ئەڵماسییەکەی دەسوڕێنێتەوە.

Before he could hurl the weapon, Mekhala threw her crystal into the air.

پێش ئەوەی ریم ئیسۆ تەورەکە بهاوێژێت، ماکهالا تۆپە کریستاڵەکە فڕی دەداتە ئاسمان.

As it climbed the height of the sky,

دوای گەیشتنە لوتکەی ئاسمان،

it emitted powerful flashes of lightning that blinded the demon.

هێزی ڕوناکی بروسکەکان هەڵدەمژێت کە چاوی ئەهریمەنی کوێر دەکات.

Ream Eyso let his axe loose in wild desperation.

ریم شیسۆ تەورەکەی لە دەست بەر دەبێت و خۆشی دەدات بە دەستەوە.

As the weapon flew through the air it cut through clouds,

تەورەکە بە ناو هەوا دەڕوات و هەورەکان دەبڕێت،

creating deep, rolling peals of thunder.

چەندین بروسکی تیژ و قوڵ دروست دەکات.

And when the lightning and thunder mixed,

کاتێک بروسک و تیشکی ڕوناکی بروسک تێکەڵ دەبن،

precious seeds of water fell from heaven: rain.

تۆوی بە سود بەرهەم دێت کە بریتییە لە باران.

Mekhala drew close to Ream Eyso, now blind and impotent without his axe.

ماکهالا لە ریم ئیسۆی کوێر و بێهیوا بەبێ تەورەکەی نزیک دەبێتەوە.

She pondered what she should do to the murderer.

بیر دەکاتەوە چی لەم تاوانبارە بکات.

Remembering the kindness and love of her teacher,

خۆشەویستی و دڵ باشی مامۆستاکەی دێتەوە بیر،

Moni Mekhala chose compassion and flew into the sky.

ماکهالا بڕیار دەدات ئازاری نەدات و بەرەو ئاسمان دەفڕێت.

Shortly later, Ream Eyso regained his strength, found his axe, and followed her.

دواتر، ریم ئیسۆ بەهێز دەبێتەوە، تەورەکەی دەدۆزێتەوە و بەدوای ماکهالا دەکەوێت.

Thunder, lightning, and rain continued to dance across the earth.

بروسک، تیشکی بروسک و باران بە دەوری زەوی سەمایان دەکرد.

Some drops fell on Vorachhun and revived him,

چەند نمە بارانێک بەر ڤۆرۆچۆن دەکەوێت و زیندووی دەکاتەوە،

his skin golden like a rice field ready for harvest.

پێستی وەک زێر دەگەشێتەوە و ئامادە دەبێت بۆ چنینەوە.

Grabbing his magic dagger,

خەنجەرەکەی هەڵدەگرێتەوە،

he flew into the sky in search of Ream Eyso and Moni Mekhala.

بەرەو ئاسمان دەفڕێت بۆ دۆزینەوە ریم ئیسۆ و ماکهالا .
