There are many ways of improving your English, especially nowadays.

အထူးသဖြင့် ယနေ့ခေတ်တွင် သင်၏အင်္ဂလိပ်စာကို မြှင့်တင်ရန် နည်းလမ်းများစွာရှိသည်။

With the help of modern technology,

ခေတ်မီနည်းပညာများ၏အကူအညီဖြင့်၊

It has become much easier in recent times to learn a new language.

၎င်းသည် မကြာသေးမီအချိန်များတွင် ဘာသာစကားအသစ်တစ်ခုသင်ယူရန် ပိုမိုလွယ်ကူလာသည်။

However, it is worth remembering

သို့သော်လည်း

that some of the tools used nowadays have been around for a very long time.

ယနေ့ခေတ်တွင် အသုံးပြုနေသော ကိရိယာအချို့သည် အချိန်အတော်ကြာခဲ့ပြီဖြစ်သည်ကို မှတ်သားထိုက်ပါသည်

A good example being captions or as we like to say here in England... ‘subtitles’.

။ စာတန်းထိုးခြင်း သို့မဟုတ် ဇာတ်ဝင်ခန်းတွင် ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ပြောလိုသည့်အတိုင်း ဥပမာကောင်းတစ်ခု... 'စာတန်းထိုးများ'။

You might be surprised to know that the practice of displaying subtitles

စာတန်းထိုးပြသခြင်းအလေ့အထသည်

has been around for over a hundred years.

နှစ်ပေါင်းတစ်ရာကျော်ရှိနေပြီဖြစ်သည်ကို သင်အံ့သြမိပေမည်။

During the days of silent movies,

အသံတိတ်ရုပ်ရှင်များခေတ်တွင်၊

captions were used to show what the actors on screen were actually saying.

ဖန်သားပြင်ပေါ်ရှိသရုပ်ဆောင်များ အမှန်တကယ်ပြောနေသည်ကိုပြသရန် စာတန်းများကိုအသုံးပြုခဲ့သည်။

Later on, after the arrival of sound,

နောက်ပိုင်းတွင် အသံထွက်ရှိလာပြီးနောက်

many movies were given subtitles

ရုပ်ရှင်လောကအတွက် စျေးကွက်ချဲ့ထွင်မှုတစ်ခုအဖြစ်

as a way of widening the market for the movie industry.

ရုပ်ရှင်အများအပြားကို စာတန်းထိုးပေးခဲ့သည် ။

This allowed people all over the world to enjoy the experience of watching a film.

Transcribing the words into text as the actors spoke

allowed different languages to be shown on screen

wherever in the world they were being viewed.

Of course, subtitles are commonly used to allow those

with hearing impairments to follow the dialogue in their own language.

You might say that subtitles have many uses,

from translating what is said

အကြားအာရုံအခက်အခဲရှိသူတွေကို ကူညီပေးတဲ့အထိ

right through to helping those with hearing difficulties.

Subtitles are also great for learning a new language.

You can watch something, like a movie or even a YouTube video

Here on YouTube, there have been many advances made in how subtitles can be used.

These improvements have made learning a new language so much easier,

There are many choices of language to choose from,

and of course you can simply follow along with the English subtitles

Whether you refer to them as ‘subtitles’ or ‘captions’,
