Why are transgender people suddenly everywhere?

As a trans activist, I get this question a lot.

एक कार्यकर्ता होनेसे यह सवाल मै कई बार सुनती हू

Keep in mind, less than one percent of American adults

१% से भी कम अमेरिकी वयस्क बिना झिझक पहचान देते है

openly identify as trans.

अपने लिंग परिवर्तन के बारेमे

According to a recent GLAAD survey, about 16 percent of non-trans Americans

GLAAD के अनुसार,१६% गैर-ट्रांस १६% गैर-ट्रांस अमेरिकियों ने

claim to know a trans person in real life.

जीवन में एक ट्रांस व्यक्ति को जानने का दावा करते है ।

So for the other 84 percent, this may seem like a new topic.

But trans people are not new.

Gender variance is older than you think,

and trans people are part of that legacy.

From central Africa to South America to the Pacific Islands and beyond,

there have been populations who recognize multiple genders,

Now, in researching trans history,

Take, for example, the women who presented as men

After the war, most resumed their lives as women,

Around 1895, a group of self-described androgynes

Their mission was to unite for defense against the world's bitter persecution.

By the '40s and '50s, medical researchers were starting to study trans medicine,

See, I just recapped the trans movement in America,

He worked with the Berlin Police Department

This was a deliberate attempt to erase trans people,

Today, I meet a lot of people who think that our movement

Do our circumstances seem dire to you yet?

Finally, I want other trans people to realize they're not alone.

अंत में, मैं चाहता हूं कि अन्य ट्रांस लोग एहसास करे कि वे अकेले नहीं हैं।

I grew up thinking my identity was an anomaly that would die with me.

मैं स्वयम को अस्वाभाविक समझकर बड़ा हुआ हू यह पहचान मेरे साथ ही मर जाएगी।

People drilled this idea of otherness into my mind,

लोगों ने इस विचार को मेरे मन में डाल दिया,

and I bought it because I didn't know anyone else like me.

मान लिया क्योंकि मै मेरे जैसा कोई और को नही जानता था।

Maybe if I had known my ancestors sooner,

it wouldn't have taken me so long to find a source of pride

in my identity and in my community.

Because I belong to an amazing, vibrant community of people

that uplift each other even when others won't,
