Today, there are 1.8 billion young people

between the ages of 10 and 24 in the world.

It is the largest cohort in human history.

Meeting their needs will be a big challenge.

But it's also a big opportunity.

They hold our shared future in their hands.

Every day, we read about young people lending their ideas and passions

to fighting for change,

social change, political change, change in their communities.

Imagine what they'll create: breakthroughs, inventions.

Maybe new medicines, new modes of transportation,

sustainable economies and maybe even a world at peace.

But this opportunity, this youth dividend,

is not a given.

One point eight billion young women and young men

are standing at the door of adulthood.

Are they ready?

ئایا ئەوان بۆ ئەم قۆناغە ئامادەن؟

Right now, too few of them are.

تاکو ئێستا، بەشێکی کەمیان ئامادەن.

My favorite part of my job at UNICEF

سەرنج ڕاکێشترین بەشی کارەکەم لە یونسیف

is a chance to talk to, meet with and hear from young people

ھەڵی قسە کردن، گوێ لێگرتن و چاوپێکەوتن لەگەڵ گەنجەکان

all around the world.

لە سەرتاسەری جیھاندا بۆ دەڕەخسێت.

And they tell me about their hopes and dreams.

و ئەوان ھیوا و خەونەکانیان بە من دەڵێن.

And they have amazing hopes and dreams

و خەون و ئاواتی سەرنج ڕاکێشیان ھەیە

for what they'll accomplish in their lives.

تا لە ژیانی خۆیان بەدەستی بھێنن.

But what they're also telling me is that they have fears.

بەڵام ئەوان باسی ترسی خۆیان بۆ من دەکەن.

They feel that they're facing a series of urgent crises.

ھەست دەکەن ڕووبەڕووی کۆمەڵێک تەنگ و چەڵەمەی هەنوکەیی دەبنەوە.

A crisis of demographics,

کێشەی نیشتەجێ بوون،

a crisis of education,

کێشەی پەروەدە و فێربوون،

a crisis of employment,

کێشەی نەبوونی کار،

a crisis of violence

کێشەی توندوتیژی

and a crisis for girls.

و کێشەی تایبەت بە کچان.

If you look at these crises, you realize that they're urgent

ئەگەر ئێوە سەیری ئەم کێشانە بکەن، بۆتان دەردەکەوێت کە ئەوانە هەنوکەین

and they need to be addressed now.

و ئێستا کاتی چارەسەری ئەم کێشانەیە.

Because they tell us that they're worried.

چونکە ئەوان بە ئێمە دەڵێن نیگەرانن.

They're worried that they might not get the education that they need.

ئەوان نیگەرانن لەو پەروەردەیەی کە پێویستیان پێیەتی بە دەستی نەھێنن.

And you know what?

و پێتان ڕابگەیەنم؟

They're right.

ئەوان لەسەر ھەقن.

Two hundred million adolescents are out of school worldwide,

٢٠٠ ملیۆن مێرد منداڵ لە سەرانسەری جیھان لە خوێندن بێ بەشن،

about the population of Brazil.

کە دەکاتە بەقەد دانیشتوانی بەرازیل.

And those that are in school

و ئەوانەی لەبەر خوێندنن

feel that they may not be getting the right skills.

وا ھەست دەکەن کارامەیی پێویست بەدەست ناھێنن.

Globally, six in 10 children and young people

do not meet the minimum proficiency level for reading and mathematics.

No country can be successful

if nearly half of its population of young people

are unable to read or write.

And what about the lucky few who are in secondary school?

و چی دەربارەی ئەم بەشە کەمەی هەرزەکاران کە شەنسیان لە خوێندنی ئامادەیی هەیە؟

Many of them are dropping out because they're worried

زۆرێک لەوانە واز لە خوێندن دەھێنن چونکە نیگەرانن

that they're not getting skills that they can use to make a livelihood.

شارەزایی تەواو بە دەست ناھێنن بۆ بەدەست هێنانی بژێوی ژیانیان.

And sometimes, their parents can no longer afford the fees.

و ھەندێک کات، دایک و باوکیان چیتر ناتوانن خەرجی شت کڕینان دابین بکەن.

It's a tragedy.

And young people are also telling me that they're worried about employment,

و گەنجەکان پێم دەڵێن نیگەرانین بەھۆی نەبوونی هەڵی کارەوە،

that they won't be able to find a job.

And again, they're right.

Every month, 10 million young people reach working age.

It's a staggering number.

Some will go on for further education, but many will enter the workforce.

And our world is not creating 10 million new jobs each month.

The competition is fierce for the jobs that are available.

So, imagine being a young person today,

بۆیە، بھێنە بەرچاوتان لە ڕۆژگاری ئەمڕودا گەنج بیت،

needing a job, seeking a livelihood,

ready to build a future,

بتەوێت داھاتوو بنیات بنێن،

and opportunities are hard to find.

Young people are also telling me

ھەروەھا گەنجان پێم دەڵێن

that they're worried that they're not getting the skills that they need.

نیگەرانن کە ئەو کارامەیەیی ئەوان پێویستیانە بە دەستی ناھێنن.

And again, they're right.

و دیسان، لەسەر ھەقن.

We are finding ourselves at a time in the world

ئێمە لە جیهانێک دەژین

when the world is changing so fast for work.

کە ژینگەی کارکردن زۆر بە خێرایی دەگۆڕێت.

We're in the fourth industrial revolution.

ئێمە لە شۆرشی پیشەسازی چوارەمداین.

Young people do not want to be on the farms and in rural communities.

They want to go to the cities.

دەیانەوێت بەرەو شارەکان کۆچ بکەن.

They want to learn future skills for future work.

دەیانەوێت بۆ کاری داھاتوویان کارامەیی زیاتر بەدەست بهیێنن.

They want to learn digital technology and green technologies.

دەیانەوێت فێری تەکنەلۆجیای دیجیتاڵ و تەکنەلۆجیایی ژینگە دۆستی بن.

They want to have a chance to learn modern agriculture.

دەیانەوێت دەرفەتی فێربوونی کشتوکاڵی سەردەمیانەیان ھەبێت.

They want to learn business and entrepreneurship,

دەیانەوێت فێری بەڕێوەبردن و دامەزراندنی کاری بازرگانی ببن،

so that they can create a business of their own.

بۆ ئەوەی بتوانن کۆمپانیای تایبەت بە خۆیان دامەزرێنن.

They want to be nurses and radiologists and pharmacists and doctors.

دەیانەوێت ببن بە پەرستار، شارەزا لە کاری تیشک، دەرمانساز و پزیشک.

And they want to have all of the skills that they'll need for the future.

و دەیانەوێت کارامەیەیی پێویست کە بۆ داھاتوو پێویستە بەدەست بهێنن.

They also want to learn the trades, like construction and electricians.

ھەروەھا دەیانەوێت فێری پیشەی وەک بیناسازی و کارەباچیی ببن.

These are all the professions that a country needs,

ئەمانە ئەم پیشانەن کە وڵاتێک پێویستی پێیەتی،

as well as the professions that have not been invented yet.

لەپاڵ ئەم پیشانە کە تاکو ئێستا دانەھێنراون

And young people are also telling me that they're worried about violence.

ھەروەھا گەنجان پێم دەڵێن کە ئەوان لە توندوتیژی نیگەرانن.

At home, online, in school, in their communities.

لە ماڵەوە، لەسەر ھێلی ئینته‌رنێت، لە فێرگە، لە کۆمەڵگەکەشیاندا..

And again, they're right.

و دیسان، لەسەر ھەقن

A young person can have hundreds of friends on social media,

گەنجان لە تۆڕە کۆمەڵایەتیەکان دەتوانن بە ھەزاران ھاوڕێ یان ھەبێت،

but when they need to find a friendly face,

بەڵام کاتێک ئەوان پێویستیان بە ھاوڕێیەکی دڵسۆز ھەیە،

someone who can be there as their friend, to talk to,

کەسێک کە دەتوانی وەک ھاورێ لایان بێت، قسەی لەگەڵ بکات،

they do not find one.

They face bullying, harassment and more.

And hundreds of millions are facing exploitation

and abuse, and violence.

Every seven minutes, an adolescent boy or girl

somewhere in the world is killed by an act of violence.

And girls are telling me

و کچان پێم دەڵێن

that they're especially worried about their futures.

And sadly, they're right, too.

و بەداخەوە، ئەوانیش لەسەر ھەقن.

Girls face prejudice and discrimination.

کچان ڕووبەڕووی زوڵم و جیاکاری ڕه‌گه‌زی دەبنەوە.

They face early childhood marriage

ئەوان ڕووبەڕووی مەترسی بە شوودانی پێش وەختە دەبنەوە

and they face life-threatening early pregnancy.

Imagine a population of the United States.

ژمارەی دانیشتوانی ئەمریکا بھێنە بەرچاوتان.

Now double it.

ئێستا دووھێندەی بکەن.

That's the number of women who were married before their 18th birthday.

ژمارەی ئەو ئافرەتانەی کە لە خوار تەمەنی ١٨ ساڵیەوە بە شوو دراون..

Six hundred and fifty million.

دەکاتە شەش سەد و پەنجا ملیۆن ئافرەت.

And many were mothers while they were still children themselves.

خۆیان هەروا منداڵ بوون کاتێک ببوون بە دایک.

One out of every three women will face physical abuse

لە ھەر سێ ژن یەکێکیان ڕووبەڕووی ئازاردانی جەستەی

or sexual abuse in her lifetime.

یان ھەراسانی سێکسی لە ژیانیدا دەبێتەوە.

So, no wonder girls are worried about their futures.

بۆیە ھیچ کچێک نیە نیگەرانی داھاتووی نەبێت

These urgent crises may not be a reality in your life or in your neighborhood.

ئەم کێشانە لەوانەیە لە ژیانی ئێوە و ئەوانەی لە دەوروبەرتانن بوونیان نەبێت.

And perhaps you've had opportunities for a good education

و لەوانەیە دەرفەتی پەروەردە و فێرکردنێکی باشتان بۆ ڕەخسابێت

and for marketable skills, and for getting a job.

و شارەزای تەواوتان بۆ بەدەست هێنانی کار هەبێت.

And maybe you've never faced violence, or prejudice, or discrimination.

و لەوانەیە ئێوە ھەرگیز ڕووبەڕووی توندوتیژی، یان جیاکاری جێندەری نەبووبنەوە.

But there are tens of millions of young people who are not so lucky.

بەڵام دەیان ملیۆن گەنج ھەیە کە دەرفەتی باشیان بۆ ناڕەخسێت.

And they are sounding the alarm for their futures.

و لە مەترسی لە ژیانی داھاتوویان ئاگادارمان دەکەنەوە.

And that is why UNICEF and our many public and private partners

و بۆیە یونسێف و ھاوکارانمان لە کەرتی تایبەتی و گشتی

are launching a new global initiative.

دەستپێشخەری جیھانی دەخەینە ڕوو.

Young people themselves have named it.

گەنجەکان خۆیان ناویان بۆ هەڵبژاردووە.

And it's called Generation Unlimited

و پێ ی دەڵێن "نەوەیەکی بێ سنوور"

or Gen-U or Gen you.

کورتکراوەکەی "جێن یوو" Gen-U

So, what they're saying is, it's our time, it's our turn,

بۆیە دەڵێن: کاتی ئێمەیە، نۆرەی ئێمەیە،

it's our future.

داھاتوو بۆ ئێمەیە،

Our goal is very straightforward.

ئامانجمان زۆر ڕوونە.

We want every young person in school, learning, training,

ئێمە دەمانەوێت گەنجان لە فێرگەکان، فێرببن، ڕاھێنان بکەن،

or age-appropriate employment by the year 2030.

یان تا ٢٠٣٠ کار کردن لە تەمەنی نەگونجاو نەهێڵین.

This goal is urgent, it's necessary, it's ambitious.

ئەم ئامانجە هەنوکەییە، گرنگە، وکاریگەرە.

But we think it's also achievable.

بەڵام دڵنیاین کە ئامانجەکە دێتە دی.

So we're calling out for cutting-edge solutions

ئێمە داوای چارەسەری نوێ و جیاواز

and new ideas.

و بیرۆکەی نوێ دەکەین.

Ideas that will give young people a fighting chance for their futures.

بیرۆکەکان وا لە گەنجەکان دەکات شەڕ لە پێناو داھاتووی خۆیان بکەن.

We don't know all the answers,

ئێمە ھەموو وەڵامەکان نازانین،

so we're reaching out to businesses and governments, and nonprofits,

بۆیە داوای ھاوکاری لە خاوەن کار، و حکومەت، و ڕێکخراوەکان،

and academia, and communities, and innovators for help.

و ئەکادیمیا، کۆمەڵگەکان، و داھێنەرەکان دەکەین.

Gen-U is to be an open platform,

"جی یو" سەکۆیەکی ئیشی کراوەیە،

where people can come and share their ideas and solutions

لەوێ خەڵک دەتوانن بێن و بیرۆکەکان و چارەسەرەکان ئاڵ و گۆڕ بکەن

about what works, what does not work,

and importantly, what might work.

So if we can take these ideas and add a little bit of seed money,

and add some good partners,

and add good political will,

we think they can scale up to reach thousands and millions of people

around the world.

And with this project, we're also going to do something new.

We're going to co-design and co-create with young people.

So with Gen-U, they're going to be in the driver's seat,

بۆیە "جێن-یوو"، دەیەوێت ڕێنیشاندەر بێت،

steering us all along the way.

In Argentina, there's a program where we connect students

who are in rural, remote, hard to reach mountainous communities,

with something they've seldom seen:

a secondary school teacher.

and they're connected to urban schools online.

And there is the secondary school teacher,

who is teaching them about digital technology

کە وانەی تەکنەلۆجیایان فێر دەکات

and a good secondary school education,

و پەروەردەی باشیان دەکات،

without them ever having to leave their own communities.

بەبێ ئەوەی پێوست بکات لە ناوچەی خۆیان جێبهێڵن.

And in South Africa, there's a program called Techno Girls.

و لە باشووری ئەفریقا، بەرنامەیەک بە ناوی Techno Girls هەیە.

And these are girls from disadvantaged neighborhoods

و ئەمانە ئەو کچانەن کە لە ناوچە هەژارەکاندا دەژین

who are studying the STEM program area:

science, technology, engineering and math.

And they have a chance to job shadow.

This is the way that they then can see themselves

In Bangladesh,

we have partners who are training tens of thousands of young people

in the trades,

so that they can become motorcycle repair people,

or mobile phone service people.

But these are a chance to see their own livelihoods.

And maybe even to have a business of their own.

And in Vietnam,

there's a program where we are pairing young entrepreneurs

ئەو گەنجانە لە خۆ دەگرێت کە دەیانەوێت کاری خۆیان دابمەزرێنن

with the needs in their own local communities.

بە ڕەچاوکردنی پێداویستی کۆمەڵگەی خۆیان.

So with this program, a group gathered

بۆیە لەم بەرنامەیە، کۆمەڵێک خەڵک کۆبوونەوە

and they decided that they would solve the problem of transportation

for people with disabilities in their communities.

So with a mentor and a bit of seed funding,

they've now developed a new app to help the whole community.

And I've seen how these programs can make a difference.

When I was in Lebanon, I visited a program called Girls Got IT,

And in this program, girls who have been studying

computer skills and the STEM program

have a chance to work side by side with young professionals,

so that they can learn firsthand

what it's like to be an architect, a designer or a scientist.

And when you see these girls, smiles on their faces,

the hot lights in their eyes,

they are so excited, they have hope for the future.

They want to change the world.

And now, with this program and these mentors,

they'll be able to do it.

But these ideas and programs are just a start.

بەڵام ئەم بەرنامە و بیرۆکانە تەنها سەرەتایە.

They'll only reach a fraction of the young people that we need to reach.

ئەوان کاریگەرییان لەسەر بەشێک لەو گەنجان دەبێت کە ئێمە ئامانجمانە.

We want to take these ideas and find ways to scale them up.

ئێمە دەمانەوێ ئەم بیرۆکانە بدۆزینەوە و پەرەیان پێ بدەین.

To reach more young people in more communities,

تا کاریگەریمان لەسەر گەنجی زیاتر لە کۆمەڵگەی جیاواز،

in more places around the world.

لە شوێنی زیاتر لە سەرانسەری جیھان هەبێت.

And we want to dream big.

و ئێمە دەمانەوێت خەونی گەورە ببینینن.

Could every school, everywhere in the world,

لە ھەر شوێنێکی جیھاندا، گشت فێرگەکانیش دەتوانن،

no matter how remote or mountainous,

کێشە نییە چەند دوورە یان ناوچەیەکی شاخاوییە،

or even if it's in a refugee camp,

یان ھەتا ئەگەر ئاوارەی کەمپەکانیش بن،

could they be connected to the internet?

Could we have instant translation for young people,

so that you could get a good education

in your own language, anywhere in the world?

And would it be possible

كه‌ بتوانین کارامەیی پێویست بۆبە دەست هێنانی بژێوی

پەیوەست بکەین بەو وانانەی کە لە فێرگەکاندا دەخوێندرێت؟

So that you actually can move from school to work.

بۆ ئەوەی لە فێرگەوە بگوازرێنەوە بۆ سەر کار.

Can each one of us help?

ئایا هەر کەسێک لە ئێمە دەتوانین ھاوکاریان بین؟

In our everyday lives and in our workplaces,

لە ژیانی ڕۆژانەمان، و لە شوێنی کارمان

are there ways that we could support young people?

ئایا ڕێگە ھەیە بتوانین پشتگیری لە گەنجان بکەین؟

Young people are asking us for apprenticeships,

گەنجان داوای مەشق و فێربوونمان لێ دەکەن،

for job shadowing, for internships.

بۆ دۆزینەوەی کار، یان مەشق و ڕاھێنان.

Could we do this?

ئایا ئێمە ئەوەمان پێ دەکرێت؟

Young people are also asking us for work-study programs,

گەنجان ھەروەھا داوای تێکەڵ کێشکردنی ئیش و خوێندن دەکەن،

places where they can learn and earn.

لە شوێنێک کە لێی فێربن و قازانجی لێ بکەن.

Could we do this and could we reach out to a community that's nearby,

ئایا ئێمە دەتوانین ئەم کارە بکەین لە نزیکەوە یارمەتی کۆمەڵگە دوورەکان بدەین،

that's less advantaged, and help them?

ئەمە سودێکی کەمی ھەیە، و یارمەتیان دەدات؟

Young people are also saying that they want to help other young people.

گەنجان دەڵێن ئەوان دەیانەوێت یارمەتی گەنجانی تر بدەن

They want more space and more voice,

ئەوان شوێن و دەنگی زیاتریان دەوێت

so that they can gather to help each other.

بۆ ئەوەی بتوانن پێکەوە کۆببنه‌وه‌ و یارمەتی یەکتری بدەن.

In HIV centers, in refugee camps,

لە سەنتەری ئێج ئای ڤی دا، لە کەمپی ئاوارەکان دا،

but also to stop online bullying and early child marriage.

تەشقەڵەی سەرهێڵ و ھاوسەرگیری پێش وەختە نەھێڵین.

We need ideas, we need ideas that are big and small,

ئێمە پێویستیمان بەم بیرۆکانەیە، بیرۆکەی گەورە و بچوک،

ideas that are local and global.

بیرۆکەی ناوەخۆی یان جیھانی بن.

This, in the end, is our responsibility.

ئەمە بەرپرسیاریەتی ئێمەیە.

A massive generation of young people are about to inherit our world.

نەوەیەکی گەنجی مەزن شوێنی ئێمە دەگرنەوە.

It is our duty to leave a legacy of hope and opportunity

کاری ئێمەیە میراتی ھیوا و دەرفەت بگوازینەوە

for them but also with them.

بۆ گەنجان و پاڵپشتیان بین.

Young people are 25 percent of our population.

گەنجان ٢٥ لەسەدی دانیشتوانی گۆی زەوی پێکدەهێنن.

But they are 100 percent of our future.

بەڵام ١٠٠٪ داھاتووی ئێمەن.

And they're calling out for a fighting chance

و لە شەڕ بۆ بەختی خۆیان دەکەن

to build a better world.

بۆ بنیادنانی جیھانێکی باشتر.

So their call should be our calling.

داوای ئەوان دەبێت داوای ئێمەش بێت.

The calling of our time.

داواکاری هەنوکەییە.

The time is now, the need is urgent.

کاتی هاتووە و پێوستیەکی هەنوکەییە.

And 1.8 billion young people are waiting.

و ١.٨ ملیار گەنج چاوەڕێن
