today I am going to correct an error that many of you

اليوم سوف اقوم بتصحيح خطأ

have been making.

الكثير منكم يقومون به.

I'm gonna tell you how to say and write dates properly.

سأخبركم عن كيفية قول وكتابة التواريخ بشكل صحيح.

Now, the main thing that confuses people, is the difference

الآن، الشيء الرئيسي الذي يربك الناس، هو الفرق

between American Dates and British Dates.

بين التواريخ الأمريكية والتواريخ البريطانية.

Americans would say the month first,

الأمريكان يقولون الشهر أولا،

then the day,

ثم اليوم،

then the year.

ثم السنة.

British people however, would say the day first,

أما بالنسبة للبرطانيين فهم يقولون اليوم اولا،

then the month,

ثم الشهر،

then the year.

ثم السنة.

So that's the main difference,

اذا هذا هو الفرق الرئيسي

I would say my date of birth at the 10th of June 1994

أنا اقول تأريخ ميلادي هو في العاشر من يونيو سنة 1994

Americans would say June 10th 1994

الأمريكان يقولون 10 يونيو 1994

Now another error that people make is that they get confused between cardinal and ordinal numbers.

الآن خطأ آخر يقومون به الناس وهو أنهم يخلطون بين الاعداد الأصلية والأعداد الترتيبية

Here are the cardinal numbers:

وفيما يلي اعداد أصلية:

one,

واحد،

two,

three,

اثنين،

ثلاثة،

four,

five.

أربعة،

خمسة.

Then, we have the ordinal numbers:

ثم، لدينا الأعداد الترتيبية:

first,

second,

الأول،

الثاني

third,

الثالث،

fourth,

الرابع،

fifth.

الخامس.

See the difference?

Now, the abbreviation of ordinal numbers are as follows: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th.

الآن، اختصار الأرقام الترتيبية هي كما يلي: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th.

And so on.

وما إلى ذلك.

And we will always use this format when writing out dates in full.

ونحن دائما سنستخدم هذا التنسيق عند كتابة تواريخنا

It's very rare to see an unabbreviated ordinal number in a written date.

انه من النادر جدا رؤية عدد ترتيبي غير مختصر في التواريخ المكتوبة

This is just waste of space.

هذا مجرد مضيعة للمساحة.

Like many things on this planet.

Another error is that students often forget

that we write months with a capital letter.

اننا نبدأ كتابة الأشهر بحرف كبير.

Make sure you fully understand the pronunciation of the months of the year.

January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.

يناير، فبراير، مارس، أبريل، مايو، يونيو، يوليو، أغسطس، سبتمبر، أكتوبر، نوفمبر، ديسمبر.

So,

اذا،

that's is how you write the date.

هذا هو كيف تكتبون التأريخ.

In English the 10th of June 1994

في اللغة الإنجليزية البرطانية العاشر من يونيو 1994

and in American June 10th 1994.

وفي الأمريكية يونيو العاشر 1994

Now, did you hear me when I read out the British version?

الآن، هل انتبهتم عندما قرأت التأريخ بالبرطانية؟

It's written 10th June 1994

هو مكتوب 10th يونيو 1994

but I said (the) 10th (of) June 1994.

ولكن قلت (ال) 10th (من) يونيو 1994.

So, you don't need to write 'the' and 'of' but you need to say it.

لذلك، لا تحتاج لكتابة the و of ولكن تحتاج أن تقولها

If you say 'My birthday is 10th June 1994'

إذا كنت تقول: عيد ميلادي هو العاشر يونيو 1994 "

it sounds a little bit weird, it sounds a bit forced and unnatural.

So you want to say 'My birthday is the 10th of June 1994'

لذلك كنت أريد أن أقول "عيد ميلادي هو ال 10 من يونيو 1994"

In American English this is not essential.

في اللغة الإنجليزية الأمريكية هذا ليس ضروريا.

My birthday is June 10th 1994.

عيد ميلادي هو 10 يونيو 1994.

Now, something else tend to be really confused, is how to say years.

الآن، شيء آخر يميل إلى أن يكون حقا مربكا وهو كيفية قول السنين.

With years before the millennium (1994)

مع سنوات ما قبل الألفية (1994)

we know that we split it up into 2 sections:

نحن نعلم أننا نقسمه الى قسمين:

10|66 for example

Let me get past the year 2000 it starts to get a little bit more complicated.

عندما نتجاوز عام 2000 تبدأ الأمور تكون أكثر تعقيدا

Now, there are two acceptable ways of saying the dates:

هناك طريقتان مقبولتان لقول التواريخ :

You can say twenty and then the number

يمكنكم القول twenty وبعدها العدد

although, with the years before two thousand and ten you want to say

We'll say twenty o eight, twenty o nine, twenty ten.

سنقول twenty o eight, twenty o nine, twenty ten

Otherwise, if you say twenty nine, it sounds like

the number 29.

So,

you need to say twenty o nine.

I have a prefer to say the full number. I like to say:

two thousand and seventeen.

The important thing that you must remember is the 'and'.

والشيء المهم الذي يجب تتذكروه هو ( and )

It is absolutely essential that you include the 'and' when you say a date starting with the year 2000.

ومن الضروري للغاية أن تقوم بتضمين ( and ) عندما تقول التأريخ ابتداءا ب سنة 2000

two thousand and one (2001),

ألفين وواحد (2001)،

two thousand and ten (2010),

ألفين وعشرة (2010)،

two thousand and seventeen (2017).

Now, did you hear I say n, n,

الآن، هل سمعتموني أقول n, n؟

I just add an extra syllable and go in, in

أنا فقط أقوم بإضافة مقطع واقول n, n

two thousand and one,

ألفين و واحد (2001)

two thousand and seventeen

ألفين وسبعة عشر (2017)

so I'm using the schwa sound

لذلك ف أنا أستخدم صوت شوا

two thousand and seventeen,

2017،

two thousand and twelve.

ألفين وإثنا عشر (2012)

So, there you have it!
