today I am going to correct an error that many of you

I'm gonna tell you how to say and write dates properly.

O sa va spun cum sa spuneti si sa scrieti data corect.

Now, the main thing that confuses people, is the difference

Principalul lucru care ii deruta pe oameni

este diferenta dintre datele in America si datele in Anglia.

between American Dates and British Dates.

Americans would say the month first,

Americanii ar spune luna prima data, apoi ziua, iar apoi anul.

then the day,

then the year.

British people however, would say the day first,

Britanicii, pe de alta parte, spun ziua prima data, apoi luna, iar apoi anul.

then the month,

then the year.

So that's the main difference,

I would say my date of birth at the 10th of June 1994

Eu as spune data zilei mele de nastere: 10-iunie-1994

Americanii ar spune: iunie-10-1994

Americans would say June 10th 1994

Now another error that people make is that they get confused between cardinal and ordinal numbers.

Acum o alta eroare pe care oamenii o fac este ca sunt confuzi intre numere cardinale si cele ordinale

Here are the cardinal numbers:

Aici sunt numerele cardinale: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

one,

two,

three,

four,

five.

Then, we have the ordinal numbers:

Apoi avem numerele ordinale: primul, al doilea, al treilea, al patrulea, al cincilea

first,

second,

third,

fourth,

fifth.

Now, the abbreviation of ordinal numbers are as follows: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th.

And so on.

And we will always use this format when writing out dates in full.

Si noi vom folosi intotdeauna acest format cand scriem datele intregi.

It's very rare to see an unabbreviated ordinal number in a written date.

Este foarte rar sa vezi datele neabreviate in scris.

This is just waste of space.

Este doar o pierdere de spatiu.

Another error is that students often forget

that we write months with a capital letter.

Make sure you fully understand the pronunciation of the months of the year.

In English the 10th of June 1994

In engleza, 10-iunie-1994

and in American June 10th 1994.

Now, did you hear me when I read out the British version?

It's written 10th June 1994

but I said (the) 10th (of) June 1994.

So, you don't need to write 'the' and 'of' but you need to say it.

Asadar nu trebuie sa scrii "the" and "of" dar trebuie sa o spui.

If you say 'My birthday is 10th June 1994'

Daca spui: Ziua mea de nastere este 10 iunie 1994 suna putin ciudat, suna putin fortat si nenatural.

it sounds a little bit weird, it sounds a bit forced and unnatural.

So you want to say 'My birthday is the 10th of June 1994'

Asa ca e mai bine sa spui: Ziua mea de nastere este pe 10 iunie 1994.

In American English this is not essential.

In engleza americana acest lucru nu este esential.

My birthday is June 10th 1994.

Ziua mea de nastere este in iunie pe 10, 1994.

Now, something else tend to be really confused, is how to say years.

With years before the millennium (1994)

we know that we split it up into 2 sections:

Let me get past the year 2000 it starts to get a little bit more complicated.

Now, there are two acceptable ways of saying the dates:

You can say twenty and then the number

Poti sa spui 20 si atunci numarul

although, with the years before two thousand and ten you want to say

Sau daca sunt ani inaintea anului 2010, trebuie sa spui "o" 9.

We'll say twenty o eight, twenty o nine, twenty ten.

Asadar spui (20 "0" 8), (20 "o" 9), (20-10)

Otherwise, if you say twenty nine, it sounds like

In caz contrar, daca spui 20-9 suna ca numarul 29.

So,

Deci, trebuie sa spui 20 "o" 9.

you need to say twenty o nine.

I have a prefer to say the full number. I like to say:

Eu in orice caz prefer sa spun numarul intreg.

Imi place sa spun doua mii saptesprezece

two thousand and seventeen.

Lucrul important pe care trebuie sa ti-l amintesti este "and", este absolut esential sa incluzi "and"

The important thing that you must remember is the 'and'.

It is absolutely essential that you include the 'and' when you say a date starting with the year 2000.

cand spui o data care incepe cu anul doua mii.

Doua mii si unu, doua mii si zece, doua mii si saptesprezece.

two thousand and one (2001),

two thousand and ten (2010),

two thousand and seventeen (2017).

Now, did you hear I say n, n,

Acum, ai auzit ca spun 'n, 'n, doar adaug o extra silaba iesind 'n, 'n.

I just add an extra syllable and go in, in

two thousand and one,

Two thousand 'n one, two thousand 'n seventeen

two thousand and seventeen

so I'm using the schwa sound

Folosesc sunetul "schwa"

two thousand and seventeen, two thousand and twelve.

two thousand and seventeen,

two thousand and twelve.

Asadar, acestea sunt.

So, there you have it!
