have been making.

I'm gonna tell you how to say and write dates properly.

Vou lhes dizer como escrever datas corretamente

Now, the main thing that confuses people, is the difference

Agora, a principal coisa que confunde as pessoas é a diferença entre as datas americanas e britânicas.

between American Dates and British Dates.

Americans would say the month first,

Americanos dizem o mês primeiro, depois o dia, e, por fim, o ano.

then the day,

then the year.

British people however, would say the day first,

Britânicos, entretanto, dizem o dia primeiro, depois o mês e por último, o ano.

then the month,

then the year.

So that's the main difference,

Então, essa é a principal diferença.

I would say my date of birth at the 10th of June 1994

Eu diria que meu aniversário é: "The 10th of June, 1994"

Oa americanos diriam: "June 10th, 1994"

Americans would say June 10th 1994

Now another error that people make is that they get confused between cardinal and ordinal numbers.

Agora, outro erro que as pessoas cometem é confundir números cardinais com ordinais

Here are the cardinal numbers:

Eis os números cardinais: "one, two, three, four, five"

one,

two,

three,

four,

five.

Then, we have the ordinal numbers:

Em seguida, temos os números ordinais: "First, second, third, fourth, fifth".

fifth.

Now, the abbreviation of ordinal numbers are as follows: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th.

And so on.

And we will always use this format when writing out dates in full.

It's very rare to see an unabbreviated ordinal number in a written date.

É muito raro ver um número ordinal por extenso numa data escrita.

This is just waste of space.

Like many things on this planet.

Outro erro é que os alunos muitas vezes se esquecem de escrever os meses com letra maiúscula.

Another error is that students often forget

that we write months with a capital letter.

Make sure you fully understand the pronunciation of the months of the year.

that's is how you write the date.

In English the 10th of June 1994

No inglês britânico: "The 10th of June, 1994".

and in American June 10th 1994.

No inglês americano: "June 10th, 1994".

Now, did you hear me when I read out the British version?

Agora, você me ouviu quando eu li a versão britânica?

It's written 10th June 1994

Escreve-se: "10th June, 1994",

but I said (the) 10th (of) June 1994.

mas eu disse: "The 10th of June, 1994"

So, you don't need to write 'the' and 'of' but you need to say it.

Então, você não precisa escrever "The" e "of" mas precisa dizer.

If you say 'My birthday is 10th June 1994'

Se você disser, meu aniversário é "10th June, 1994"

it sounds a little bit weird, it sounds a bit forced and unnatural.

Soa um pouco estranho, meio forçado e nada natural.

So you want to say 'My birthday is the 10th of June 1994'

Então, você deveria dizer: Meu aniversário é "The 10th of June, 1994"

In American English this is not essential.

Em inglês americano não precisa. Meu aniversário é "June 10th, 1994".

My birthday is June 10th 1994.

Now, something else tend to be really confused, is how to say years.

With years before the millennium (1994)

Anos antes do milênio, 1994, são falados de duas em duas casas.

we know that we split it up into 2 sections:

18|25 ,

Dezoito e Vinte e Cinco (1825)

10|66.

Dez e Sessenta e Seis (1066), por exemplo

10|66 for example

Let me get past the year 2000 it starts to get a little bit more complicated.

Agora, ao passarmos de 2000, a coisa complica.

Now, there are two acceptable ways of saying the dates:

Há então duas formas aceitáveis de dizer as datas

You can say twenty and then the number

Você pode dizer Vinte (Twenty) e depois o número.

although, with the years before two thousand and ten you want to say

De 2001 a 2009, antes de 2010, você deve dizer 09 (oh nine)

We'll say twenty o eight, twenty o nine, twenty ten.

Então você dirá "Twenty oh eight, Twenty oh nine, Twenty Ten"

Pois, se disser "Twenty Nine", fica parecendo 29.

Otherwise, if you say twenty nine, it sounds like

the number 29.

So,

you need to say twenty o nine.

Então, você precisa dizer "Twenty oh nine" (oh = 0; som da letra O)

I have a prefer to say the full number. I like to say:

Eu sempre prefiro dizer o numero inteiro. Gosto de dizer

two thousand and seventeen.

Two Thousand and Seventeen (2017)

The important thing that you must remember is the 'and'.

O importante é que você se lembre do "and". É absolutamente essencial que você inclua "and" quando for dizer uma data após o ano 2000.

It is absolutely essential that you include the 'and' when you say a date starting with the year 2000.

Two thousand and one (2001)

two thousand and one (2001),

Two thousand and ten (2010)

two thousand and ten (2010),

two thousand and seventeen (2017).

Two thousand and seventeen (2017)

Now, did you hear I say n, n,

Ouviu bem? Eu disse "n", "n". Só adicionei uma silaba extra e foi "n", "n"

I just add an extra syllable and go in, in

Two thousand "n" one (2001)

two thousand and one,

two thousand and seventeen

so I'm using the schwa sound

Two thousand "n" seventeen (2017)

Estou usando o som do "Schwa", "ã", "n", "ã", "n"

two thousand and seventeen,

Two thousand "n" seventeen (2017) Two thousand "n" twelve (2012)

two thousand and twelve.

So, there you have it!
