I'm gonna tell you how to say and write dates properly.

Now, the main thing that confuses people, is the difference

讓大部分人都覺得很困擾的，是在於英國日期與美國日期的不同

between American Dates and British Dates.

Americans would say the month first,

美國人會先說月份，然後是日期，最後是年份

then the day,

then the year.

British people however, would say the day first,

英國人會先說日期，然後是月份，最後是年份

then the month,

then the year.

So that's the main difference,

所以這是最主要的分別

I would say my date of birth at the 10th of June 1994

我會說我的生日是在1994年6月10日 (10th June 1994)

Americans would say June 10th 1994

美國人說的方式是1994年6月10日 (June 10th 1994)

Now another error that people make is that they get confused between cardinal and ordinal numbers.

另外一個讓很多人感到困擾的是基數和序數的區別

Here are the cardinal numbers:

這裡是基數：一，二，三，四，五

one,

two,

three,

four,

five.

Then, we have the ordinal numbers:

之後是序數：第一，第二，第三，第四，第五

first,

second,

third,

fourth,

fifth.

看到了區別了嗎？基數、序數

Now, the abbreviation of ordinal numbers are as follows: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th.

接下來是序數在日期的寫法（簡寫）

第一(1st)、第二(2nd)、第三(3rd)、第四(4th)、第五(5th)

And so on.

如此類推

And we will always use this format when writing out dates in full.

我們非常常用這種寫法當我們在寫整個日期的時候

It's very rare to see an unabbreviated ordinal number in a written date.

而且我們很少會將看起來很累贅的序數直接寫在日期上

This is just waste of space.

這不過是浪費空間罷了，像是非常多亂七八糟的東西在日期上

Like many things on this planet.

Another error is that students often forget

除此之外，同學們經常忘記要用大寫來寫月份

that we write months with a capital letter.

Make sure you fully understand the pronunciation of the months of the year.

that's is how you write the date.

In English the 10th of June 1994

英式英語 1994年6月10日(10th June 1994)

and in American June 10th 1994.

美式英語 1994年6月10日(June 10th 1994)

Now, did you hear me when I read out the British version?

你有沒有聽到我在讀英國版本的日期時

It's written 10th June 1994

雖然寫作(10th June 1994)，但是我讀出來是[(The) 10th (of) June 1994]

but I said (the) 10th (of) June 1994.

So, you don't need to write 'the' and 'of' but you need to say it.

所以寫作時，你並不需要寫下 THE 和 OF

但是你需要讀出它們

If you say 'My birthday is 10th June 1994'

如果你說:「我的生日是 (10th June 1994) 。」

it sounds a little bit weird, it sounds a bit forced and unnatural.

聽起來會有些奇怪 聽起來很勉強和不自然

So you want to say 'My birthday is the 10th of June 1994'

所以你要說，我的生日是1994年6月10日 ("the" 10th "of" June 1994)

In American English this is not essential.

在美式英語中，這個狀況比較沒有關係

My birthday is June 10th 1994.

我的生日是1994年6月10日

Now, something else tend to be really confused, is how to say years.

大家比較容易混淆的是，要怎麼表達年分

With years before the millennium (1994)

千年的部分 比如1994年

we know that we split it up into 2 sections:

我們將它分成兩個部分

18和25 (1825年)

18|25 ,

10|66.

10和66 (1066年)

10|66 for example

例如10和66 (1066年)

Let me get past the year 2000 it starts to get a little bit more complicated.

如果是超過2000年的話，會比較複雜

Now, there are two acceptable ways of saying the dates:

有兩種方法可以表達這種日子

You can say twenty and then the number

你可以說20然後接著後面的數字

although, with the years before two thousand and ten you want to say

如果你想表達2010年以前的年份

o9

你可以說"O(英文字母)"9

We'll say twenty o eight, twenty o nine, twenty ten.

所以我們會說20 "O"8, 20 "O"9, 20和10

Otherwise, if you say twenty nine, it sounds like

So,

you need to say twenty o nine.

I have a prefer to say the full number. I like to say:

two thousand and seventeen.

The important thing that you must remember is the 'and'.

It is absolutely essential that you include the 'and' when you say a date starting with the year 2000.

two thousand and ten (2010),

2000和10 (2010年)

two thousand and seventeen (2017).

Now, did you hear I say n, n,

I just add an extra syllable and go in, in

two thousand and one,

2000 "in" 1 (2001)

two thousand and seventeen

2000 "in" 17 (2017)

so I'm using the schwa sound

two thousand and seventeen,

two thousand and twelve.

2000和12 (2012年)

So, there you have it!
