Confusing English Verbs | GO & COME

تحسين المفردات الخاصة بك أفعال اللغة الإنجليزية المربكة

Hello! I'm Emma from mmmEnglish!

مرحبا! انا ايما من ممم انجليش

If I put these verbs in front of you, you'd probably tell me

اذا وضعت هذه الافعال امامك , من المحتمل ان تخبرنى

that they're simple!

انها بسيطة

They're easy! You know them, right?

هى افعال بسيطة ّ! انت تعرفها , صحيح

These are simple verbs.

هذه افعال بسيطة

But they are quite similar to each other.

لكنها الى حد ما تشبه بعضها البعض

It could be hard to decide which one to use, sometimes.

قد يكون من الصعب ان تحدد اى منها سوف تستخدم

So in this lesson, we'll take a closer look

لذا فى هذا الدرس , سنأخذ نظرة عن قرب

at the differences between them

فى الفروقات بينهم

so that you can feel more confident when you use them.

لكي تشعر بثقة اكبر حين تستخدمهم

Am I going?

هل انا ذاهب ؟

Or am I coming?

ام انا ات؟

These two verbs both describe movement between

كلا من هذين الفعلين يصف حركة بين

the person speaking and someone else.

المتكلم وشخص اخر

Or something else.

او شى اخر.

But the difference is in the direction of the movement.

لكن الفرق هو اتجاه الحركة .

When you use come,

عندما تستخدم تعال,

the movement is from somewhere else

الحركة من مكان اخر

to where the speaker is.

الى حيث يوجد المتكلم .

And when I say somewhere else,

وعنما اقول مكان اخر

that could be the other side of the world,

من الممكن ان يكون الجانب الاخر من العالم

or it could just be the other side of the room.

ومن الممكن ان يكون الجانب الاخر من الغرفة

It doesn't matter!

لا يهم !

What is important is the direction of the movement.

المهم هو اتجاه الحركة .

From somewhere, to the speaker.

من مكان ما , الى المتحدث .

So in this case, it's me.

لذا فى هذه الحالة , انها انا .

So it's from somewhere, to the speaker.

اذا من مكان ما , الى المتحدث.

Are you coming to our house for dinner tonight?

هل انت ات الليلة الى منزلنا للعشاء ؟

Are you coming to Melbourne next month?

هل انت ات الى ملبورن الشهر القادم

Tell me when you're coming to Australia.

أخبرني متى ستاتى الى استراليا ؟

Go is usually used when the movement happens in the

تستخدم Go عادة عندما يكون اتجاه الحركة فى

opposite direction.

الاتجاه المعاكس .

From, where the speaker is

من حيث يوجد المتكلم

to another place.

الى مكان اخر .

Are you going to Thailand for the holidays?

هل انت ذاهب الى تايلاند فى العطلة

So here, the speaker lives somewhere else,

اذا هنا , يتحدث المتكلم من مكان اخر

not in Thailand.

ليس فى تايلاند

And they're not in Thailand at the time of speaking.

وهم ليسوا فى تايلاند فى وقت الكلام

Are you going to Ben's party on Friday?

هل انت ذاهب لحفلة Ben يوم الجمعة ؟

So that's from the place, where you are

لذا هذا سيكون من المكان المتواجد انت فيه حاليا

or you usually are, to Ben's party.

او حيث تتواجد عادة , الى حفلة Ben

Now if I was at Ben's party and I called you,

الان لو كنت انا فى حفلة Ben واتصلت بك

I could say,

من الممكن ان اقول

are you coming to Ben's party?

هل انت ات الى حفلة Ben ؟

So I'm asking if you'll move

لذلك ان أسألك اذا كنت ستتحرك

from the place where you are, to Ben's party.

من مكان تواجدك الى حفلة Ben

So I used come.

لذلك استخدمت ات

So far, so good, right?

حتى الان جيد جدا , صحيح ؟

Now you might be talking about another person,

الان من الممكن ان تتحدث عن شخص اخر

someone who is not the speaker

هذا الشخص ليس هو المتحدث

or the listener.

او المستمع

You're talking about other people.

انت تتحدث عن اشخاص اخرين

Or something else.

او عن شئ اخر

And this is where things can get a little tricky!

وهنا قد تكون الامور مربكة قليلا

Because you can use either come or go

لانك قد تستخدم اما يأتى او يذهب

Look at this example.

انظر لهذا المثال

My mum came to help me.

اتت امى لتساعدنى

So this is simple,

اذا هذا بسيط

because I'm part of this activity.

لانى انا جزء من النشاط

She came to me.

لقد اتت الى

But here, my mum went to help my brother.

لكن هنا , ذهبت امى لتساعد اخى

My mum came to help my brother.

اتت امى لتساعد اخى

Now both of these sentences are correct.

الان كلا من هاتين الجملتين صحيحتان

I could use either come or go.

من الممكن ان استخدم اما فعل يأتى أو يذهب

But it depends on whose viewpoint I take.

لكن يعتمد الامر على وجهة النظر التى اخذها

Which person, who's involved in the activity

من هو الشخص المرتبط بهذ الحدث ؟

am I describing or giving information about?

هل انا اقدم وصفا ام اعطى معلومات عن ؟

You use go when you're using the viewpoint

تستخدم فعل يذهب عندما تاخذ وجهة نظر

of the person doing the action.

الشخص الذى يفعل الحدث

My mum went to help my brother.

ذهبت امى لتساعد اخى

My mum is doing the action.

امى تفعل الفعل

And you use come,

و تستخدم فعل يأتى

when you use the receiver's viewpoint,

عندما تاخذ وجهة نظر المتلقى

the person who is receiving the action.

الشخص الذى يتلقى الحدث

My mum came to help my brother.

اتت امى لتساعد اخى

So my brother is receiving the action.

اذا يتلقى اخى المساعدة

So we've used come.

لذا استخدمنا فعل ياتى

Now these two verbs are made much clearer

الان سيصبح هذين الفعلين اكثر وضوحا

with a door.

مع باب

'Come in' and 'go in' are both ways to instruct someone

تعال الى و اذهب الى كلاهما طرق لارشاد شخص ما

to enter a room or a building.

لتدخل غرفة او مبنى

But, there's a difference!

لكن هناك فرق

So now both you and I are outside together.

والان كلانا موجودين بالخارج

So I can say to you, "let's go in"

اذا ممكن ان اقول لك هيا بنا لندخل

Let's go from where we are,

لندخل من مكان تواجدنا

to another place, or inside.

لمكان اخر او للداخل

Or when I'm inside, and you're outside,

او عندما اكون بالداخل و انت بالخارج

I can say "Come in"

استطيع ان اقول لك ادخل

Move from where you are, towards me.

تحرك من مكان تواجدك حيث انت , تجاهى

Come inside the house.

ادخل الى المنزل

Okay so let's change the context.

حسنا لنغير السياق

Are you coming to Sarah's wedding?

هل انت ذاهب لحفل زفاف سارة ؟

So this suggests,

لذا هذا يشير

that the speaker will also be at the wedding.

ان المتحدث سيكون متواجد ايضا في الحفل

Are you going to Sarah's wedding?

هل انت ذاهب لحفل زفاف سارة ؟

Now this suggests that the speaker

الان هذا يشير ان المتحدث

may be not going there.

من المحتمل الا يتواجد هناك

Or maybe they haven't decided yet.

او ربما لم يقرروا بعد

Are you going to visit your sister?

هل انت ذاهب لزيارة اختك ؟

So that's in a place that is away from the listener's

لذا هذا الكلام فى مكان بعيد عن مكان المستمع

current place.

الحالى

Are you coming to visit your sister?

هل انت اتى لزيارة اختك ؟

And here, we're being a bit more specific.

وهنا نتحدث بشى اكثر تحديدا

The listener is in a different place.

المستمع متواجد فى مكان مختلف

But, they'll move to the location of their sister.

ولكن سينتقل لمكان اخته

And probably the speaker too.

ومن المحتمل ان ينتقل المتحدث ايضا

So there you have it!

اعتقد انك فهمتها

Some really important differences

بعض الفروق الهامة حقا

to keep in mind about the verbs, go and come.

لتضعها في الحسبان عن الفعلين يذهب و يأتى

You thought they were simple,

لقد اعتقدت انهم بهذه البساطة

but maybe you learnt

لكنك تعلمت ربما

a couple of new things about using them.

بعض من الاشياء عن استخداماتهم
