Confusing English Verbs | GO & COME

If I put these verbs in front of you, you'd probably tell me

Daca v-as pune aceste verbe in fata ,probabil mi-ati fi spus

that they're simple!

ca sunt simple

They're easy! You know them, right?

Sunt usoare! Voi le stiti , corect?

These are simple verbs.

Aceste sunt verbe simple.

But they are quite similar to each other.

Dar sunt un pic asemanatoare unul cu altul.

It could be hard to decide which one to use, sometimes.

Citeodata ar putea fi greu sa decideti pe care sa-l folositi .

So in this lesson, we'll take a closer look

Deci in aceasta lectie vom arunca o privire mai atenta

at the differences between them

la diferenta dintre ele

so that you can feel more confident when you use them.

Am I going?

Eu plec?

Or am I coming?

Sau eu vin?

These two verbs both describe movement between

Aceste doua verbe ,ambele descriu deplasarea intre

the person speaking and someone else.

persoana care vorbeste si altcineva.

Or something else.

Sau altceva.

But the difference is in the direction of the movement.

Dar diferenta este in directia de deplasare.

When you use come,

Cinnd folositi "vine"

the movement is from somewhere else

deplasarea este de undeva

to where the speaker is.

spre unde este vorbitorul.

And when I say somewhere else,

Si atunci cind spun "undeva"

that could be the other side of the world,

asta ar putea fi alt loc a lumii,

or it could just be the other side of the room.

It doesn't matter!

What is important is the direction of the movement.

From somewhere, to the speaker.

So in this case, it's me.

So it's from somewhere, to the speaker.

Go is usually used when the movement happens in the

So that's from the place, where you are

or you usually are, to Ben's party.

Now if I was at Ben's party and I called you,

I could say,

So I'm asking if you'll move

So I used come.

Now you might be talking about another person,

And this is where things can get a little tricky!

Because you can use either come or go

Look at this example.

My mum came to help me.

So this is simple,

because I'm part of this activity.

She came to me.

But here, my mum went to help my brother.

My mum came to help my brother.

Now both of these sentences are correct.

I could use either come or go.

But it depends on whose viewpoint I take.

Which person, who's involved in the activity

am I describing or giving information about?

You use go when you're using the viewpoint

Folositi "merge" cind folositi punctul de vedere

of the person doing the action.

My mum went to help my brother.

My mum is doing the action.

Mama îndeplinește actiunea.

And you use come,

Si tu foloseste "vine",

when you use the receiver's viewpoint,

atunci cind folosesti punctul de vedere al primitorului(destinatarului),

the person who is receiving the action.

persoana care primeste actiunea.

My mum came to help my brother.

Mama vine sa-l ajute pe fratele meu.

So my brother is receiving the action.

Deci fratele meu primeste actiunea.

So we've used come.

Deci noi am utilizat "vine".

Now these two verbs are made much clearer

Acum aceste doua verbe sun facute mult mai clare

with a door.

cu o usa.

'Come in' and 'go in' are both ways to instruct someone

"Intra" si "iesi" sunt ambele cai pentru al anunra pe cineva

to enter a room or a building.

Sa intre intr-o camera sau o incapere.

But, there's a difference!

Dar este o diferenta!

So now both you and I are outside together.

Deci acum ambii, tu si eu suntem afara impreuna.

So I can say to you, "let's go in"

Asa pot sa-ti spun : "hai sa intram"

Let's go from where we are,

Hai sa mergemdin locul unde ne aflam

to another place, or inside.

In alt loc sau inauntru

Or when I'm inside, and you're outside,

Sau cind sunt inauntru si tu esti afara ,

I can say "Come in"

Pot spune "intra"

Move from where you are, towards me.

Te deplasezi de unde te afli spre mine.

Come inside the house.

Intra in interiorul casei.

Okay so let's change the context.

Bine hai sa schimbam contextul.

Are you coming to Sarah's wedding?

Vii la nunta Sarei?

So this suggests,

Aceasta sugereaza

that the speaker will also be at the wedding.

ca vorbitorul va fi la fel la nunta.

Are you going to Sarah's wedding?

Te duci la nunta Sarei?

Now this suggests that the speaker

Acum aceasta sugereaza ca vorbitorul

may be not going there.

Or maybe they haven't decided yet.

Are you going to visit your sister?

So that's in a place that is away from the listener's

And here, we're being a bit more specific.

The listener is in a different place.

But, they'll move to the location of their sister.

And probably the speaker too.

So there you have it!

Some really important differences

to keep in mind about the verbs, go and come.

You thought they were simple,
