Mockingbirds are badass.

Mockingbirds -- that's Mimus polyglottos --

흉내지빠귀들은 -- 학명이 Mimus polyglottus인데 --

are the emcees of the animal kingdom.

동물왕국의 사회자 역할을 하고 있어요.

They listen and mimic and remix what they like.

들어보고 자기들 마음에 드는 소리는 따라하고 이리저리 뒤섞어 보죠.

They rock the mic outside my window every morning.

매일 아침 제 창 밖에서 공연을 합니다.

I can hear them sing the sounds of the car alarms

자동차 알람 소리를 흉내낼 때도 있어요.

like they were songs of spring.

마치 그 소리가 봄의 노래라는 듯이 말이죠.

I mean, if you can talk it, a mockingbird can squawk it.

우리가 말 할 수 있는거면, 걔네들은 따라서 꽥꽥거릴 수 있는거죠.

So check it, I'm gonna to catch mockingbirds.

보세요, 제가 이제 흉내지빠귀들을 잡아들일겁니다.

I'm going to trap mockingbirds all across the nation

전국에 있는 흉내지빠귀들을 다 잡아들인 후

and put them gently into mason jars like mockingbird Molotov cocktails.

병에 넣어서 흉내지빠귀 화염병을 만들렵니다.

Yeah. And as I drive through a neighborhood,

Cruising random city streets, rocking a drop-top Cadillac

월마트 쇼핑백 13개에 흉내지빠귀들을 가득 담고

with a big backseat, packing like 13 brown paper Walmart bags

뒷좌석이 널직한 뚜껑 열린 캐딜락을 몰고 아무 도시나 돌아다니면서

full of loaded mockingbirds, and I'll get everybody.

모든 사람들의 소리를 모으는 거죠.

I'll get the nitwit on the network news saying,

"잠시 후 이 위기에 대한 뉴스를 더 전해드리겠습니다"

"We'll be back in a moment with more on the crisis."

라고 말하는 싱거운 뉴스 아나운서,

I'll get some asshole at a watering hole asking what brand the ice is.

술집에서 얼음 브랜드 따지는 거만한 녀석들,

I'll get that lady at the laundromat who always seems to know what being nice is.

친절함에서 두째 가라면 서러워 할 우리 세탁소 아줌마,

I'll get your postman making dinner plans.

우리의 저녁 식사 메뉴를 짜줄려고 하는 우체부 아저씨,

I'll get the last time you lied.

여러분이 마지막으로 했던 거짓말,

I'll get, "Baby, just give me the frickin' TV guide."

"여보! 텔레비전 편성표 좀 달라고!" 하는 성난 소리도,

I'll get a lonely, little sentence with real error in it,

외롭게 들리고 짧은 확실한 거짓말,

"Yeah, I guess I could come inside, but only for a minute."

I'll put a mockingbird on a late-night train just to get an old man snoring.

밤 기차에도 흉내지빠귀를 보내서 나이든 아저씨의 코 고는 소리도 모을겁니다.

I'll get your ex-lover telling someone else, "Good morning."

헤어진 연인이 누군가에게 "좋은 아침"하며 인사하는 것,

I'll get everyone's good mornings.

모든 사람의 아침 인사도 모으죠.

I don't care how you make 'em.

어떤 언어든 상관 없죠.

Everybody means everybody, means everybody here.

We are 12 billion light years from the edge.

Space is length and breadth continued indefinitely,

There's about 10 million phage per job.

It's a very strange world inside a nanotube.

나노튜브 속은 괴상한 세계이고,

Women can talk; black men ski; white men build strong buildings;

여자가 말할 수 있고, 흑인남자가 스키를 타고, 백인남자는 아주 튼튼한 건물을 짓고,

we build strong suns.

우리는 엄청난 태양들을 만들죠.

The surface of the Earth is absolutely riddled with holes,

지표면은 구멍 투성이고,

and here we are, right in the middle.

It is the voice of life that calls us to come and learn.

이건 삶이 우리에게 와서 배우라고 부르는 목소리에요.

When all the little mockingbirds fly away,

they're going to sound like the last four days.

이 세상의 마지막 4일 같을거에요.

I will get uptown gurus, downtown teachers,

잘 사는 동네의 전문가들, 시내의 선생님들,

broke-ass artists and dealers, and Filipino preachers, leaf blowers,

찢어지게 가난한 예술가와 거래상들, 그리고 필리핀계 설교자, 정원사들,

bartenders, boob-job doctors, hooligans, garbage men,

바텐더들, 가슴성형 전문의들, 훌리건들, 청소부 아저씨들,

your local Congressmen in the spotlight, guys in the overhead helicopters.

구의회 의원님들, 그리고 헬리콥터 타고 다니는 분들.

Everybody gets heard.

흉내지빠귀들은 이런 소리들을 다 듣게 되겠지요.

Everybody gets this one, honest mockingbird as a witness.

흉내지빠귀라는 정직한 증인이 모든 소리를 다 듣겠지요.

And I'm on this.

전 이 일을 계속할 겁니다.

I'm on this 'til the whole thing spreads,

흉내지빠귀가 전국에 깔릴때까지 할 거에요.

with chat rooms and copycats and moms maybe tucking kids into bed

수다쟁이와 흉내쟁이, 그리고 아이를 재우면서 엄마들이 이렇게 노래부를 때 까지요.

singing, "Hush, little baby, don't say a word.

"쉿, 아가야. 조용히 해보렴.

Wait for the man with the mockingbird."

그 흉내지빠귀 아저씨를 기다려 보자꾸나."

Yeah. And then come the news crews, and

예. 그리고 기자들이 오겠지요.

the man-in-the-street interviews, and the letters to the editor.

길에서 인터뷰도 하자고 하고 사람들이 편집장에게 원고를 보내겠지요.

Everybody asking, just who is responsible for this citywide,

모두들 묻지요. 도대체 누가 시 전체를 나라 전체를

nationwide mockingbird cacophony, and somebody finally is going to tip

흉내지빠귀의 불협화음으로 가득차게 했냐고요. 누군가가 캘리포니아의

the City Council of Monterey, California off to me,

몬터레이 시의회에 귀띔을 해주겠지요. 바로 저라고요.

and they'll offer me a key to the city.

그러면 시장이 저한테 행운의 열쇠를 줄지 모릅니다.

A gold-plated, oversized key to the city

금을 입힌 커다란 행운의 열쇠 말이예요.

and that is all I need, 'cause if I get that, I can unlock the air.

그러면 제가 소리가 퍼져나가는 공간을 그 열쇠로 열고

I'll listen for what's missing, and I'll put it there.

무슨 소리가 부족한가 들어보고 그 소리를 채워 놓지요.
