Clearly, we're living in a moment of crisis.

Arguably the financial markets have failed us

and the aid system is failing us,

and yet I stand firmly with the optimists

who believe that there has probably never been a more exciting moment to be alive.

Because of some of technologies we've been talking about.

Because of the resources, the skills,

कुछ नये साधनों के कारण, नये हुनरों के कारण,

and certainly the surge of talent we're seeing all around the world,

with the mindset to create change.

And we've got a president who sees himself as a global citizen,

who recognizes that no longer is there a single superpower,

but that we've got to engage in a different way with the world.

And by definition, every one of you who is in this room

must consider yourself a global soul,

You work on the front lines. And you've seen the best and the worst

that human beings can do for one another and to one another.

you've also seen the extraordinary things that individuals are capable of,

even in their most ordinariness.

Today there is a raging debate

आजकल एक ज़ोरदार बहस चल रही है

as to how best we lift people out of poverty,

कि कैसे लोगों को गरीबी से निज़ात दिलाया जाये,

how best we release their energies.

कैसे उन में दबी आत्म-शक्ति को प्रवाहित किया जाये।

On the one hand, we have people that say

एक तरफ़ ऐसे लोग हैं जो कहते हैं कि

the aid system is so broken we need to throw it out.

अनुदान-प्रणाली इतनी टूट चुकी है कि उसे उखाड फ़ेंकना चाहिये.

And on the other we have people who say

दूसरी तरक वो हैं जो कहते हैं कि

the problem is that we need more aid.

समस्या ये है कि भरपूर अनुदान कभी दिया ही नहीं गया।

And what I want to talk about is something that compliments both systems.

और मैं ऐसी चीज़ के बारे में बात करना चाहती हूँ जो बाज़ार और अनुदान दोनो है।

We call it patient capital.

इसे हम धैर्यवान पूँजी कहते हैं।

The critics point to the 500 billion dollars spent

आलोचक उँगली उठाते हैं कि ५०० बिलियन डॉलर (बीस हज़ार करोड रुपये) खर्च हो चुके हैं

in Africa since 1970

अफ़्रीका पर १९७० से अब तक

and say, and what do we have but environmental degradation

और पूछते हैं कि हमने क्या पाया सिवाय पर्यावरण के ह्रास के,

and incredible levels of poverty, rampant corruption?

और अमानवीय स्तर की गरीबी और महामारी जैसे भ्रष्टाचार के?

They use Mobutu as metaphor.

वो मोबोटू का उदाहरण देते हैं।

And their policy prescription is to

और से नीती बनाने की बात कहते हैं जिससे कि

make government more accountable,

focus on the capital markets,

invest, don't give anything away.

On the other side, as I said, there are those who say

the problem is that we need more money.

That when it comes to the rich, we'll bail out

and we'll hand a lot of aid,

but when it comes to our poor brethren,

we want little to do with it.

They point to the successes of aid:

the eradication of smallpox,

and the distribution of tens of millions

of malaria bed nets and antiretrovirals.

Both sides are right.

And the problem is that neither side is listening to the other.

और समस्या ये है कि दोनो ही पक्ष दूसरे की बात सुनने को राज़ी नहीं हैं।

Even more problematic, they're not listening to

और इससे भी बडी समस्या ये कि वो उन्हें सुनने को भी तैयार नहीं

poor people themselves.

जिन गरीबों के लिये वो काम करना चाहते हैं।

After 25 years of working on issues of

२५ साल तक काम करने के बाद

poverty and innovation,

गरीबी और नवपरिवर्तन के मसलों से जुडे रहने पर,

it's true that there are probably no more market-oriented

मुझे लगता है कि बाज़ार से जुडे लोगों की संखया

individuals on the planet

इस धरती पर उतनी ही है

than low-income people.

जितनी कि गरीबों की।

They must navigate markets daily,

गरीबों को भी रोज़ बाज़ारों से रूबरू होना पडता है,

making micro-decisions, dozens and dozens,

छोटे छोटे दर्ज़नों फ़ैसले लेने होते हैं,

to move their way through society,

समाज में अपनी राह बनाते के लिये।

and yet if a single catastrophic health problem

और इतनी कडी मेहनत के बावजूद भी सिर्फ़ एक छोटी स्वास्थय समस्या

impacts their family,

जो उनके परिवार को झेलनी पड जाये,

they could be put back into poverty, sometimes for generations.

उन्हें वापस गरीबी में धकेल सकती है, कई बार तो कई पीढियों के लिये।

And so we need both the market

और इसलिये हमें बाज़ारों की उतनी ही ज़रूरत है

and we need aid.

जितनी कि अनुदानों की।

Patient capital works between,

धैर्यवान पूँजी इन दोनों के बीच अपने लिये एक ख़ास जगह बनाती है,

and tries to take the best of both.

और दोनो की बेहतर बातों को स्वयं में समाहित करती है।

It's money that's invested in entrepreneurs who know their communities

ये पूँजी वो धन है जिसे उन उद्यमियों को सौंपा गया है जिन्हें अपने समाज की पहचान है

and are building solutions

और जो हल निकाल रहे हैं समस्याओं का

to healthcare, water, housing, alternative energy,

जैसे कि स्वास्थ सेवाएँ, जल-आपूर्ति, आवास, वैकल्पिक ऊर्जा का,

thinking of low income people not as passive recipients of charity,

गरीबों को सिर्फ़ दया का प्राप्त मानते हुये नहीं,

but as individual customers, consumers, clients,

बल्कि उन्हें ग्राहक, मुवक्किल, और उप्भोक्ता का दर्ज़ा देते हुए,

people who want to make decisions in their own lives.

Patient capital requires that we have

धैर्यवान पूँजी का निवेश चाहता है कि हम में

incredible tolerance for risk,

जोखिम उठाने की अविश्वसनीय काबलियत हो,

a long time horizon in terms of allowing those

और असाधारण दूरदर्शिता हो जो हमें

entrepreneurs time to experiment,

इन उद्यमियों को समय देने दे,

to use the market as the best listening device that we have,

and the expectation of below-market returns,

but outsized social impact.

It recognizes that the market has its limitation,

and so patient capital also works

with smart subsidy to extend the benefits of a global economy

to include all people.

सब लोगों तक पहुँचें।

Now, entrepreneurs need patient capital

देखिये, उद्यमियों को धैर्यवान पूँजी की आवश्यकता

for three reasons.

तीन कारणों से होती है।

First, they tend to work in markets

पहला ये कि वो ऐसी बाज़ारों में हैं

where people make one, two, three dollars a day

जहाँ लोगों की दैनिक कमाई एक से तीन डॉलरों के बीच है

and they are making all of their decisions within that income level.

और उन्हें अपने सारे फ़ैसले उसी कमाई के स्तर पर लेने होते हैं।

Second, the geographies in which they work

दूसरा ये कि जिन जगहों पर वो काम करते हैं

have terrible infrastructure --

वहाँ बुनियादी सुविधाएँ भी खस्ताहाल हैं।

no roads to speak of, sporadic electricity

सडकें गायब ही हैं, बिजली कभी आई, कभी नहीं,

and high levels of corruption.

और जबरदस्त भ्रष्टाचार है।

Third, they are often creating markets.

तीसरा ये कि अक्सर वो लोग पूर्णतः नयी बाज़ार बना रहे होते हैं।

Even if you're bringing clean water

यदि आप साफ़ पानी भी

for the first time into rural villages, it is something new.

पहली बार किसी गाँव में ले जा रहे हैं, वो बिलकुल नयी चीज़ है।

And so many low-income people

और बहुत सारे गरीब लोगों ने

have seen so many failed promises broken

बहुत सारे झूठे वादे सुने और झेले हैं,

and seen so many quacks and sporadic medicines offered to them

that building trust takes a lot of time,

takes a lot of patience.

It also requires being connected to a lot of management assistance.

Not only to build the systems,

the business models that allow us

to reach low income people in a sustainable way,

but to connect those business

to other markets, to governments, to corporations --

दूसरे बाज़ारों तक, सरकारों तक, और बडे निगमों तक विकसित करने में--

real partnerships if we want to get to scale.

सच्ची साझेदारियाँ जो कि काम के पैमाने को विशालता दें।

I want to share one story

मैं आपसे एक कहानी बाँटना चाहती हूँ

about an innovation called drip irrigation.

ड्रिप-सिंचाई नाम की एक नवीन तकनीक की कहानी।

In 2002 I met this incredible entrepreneur

सन २००२ में मेरी मुलाकात एक महान उद्यमी से हुई

named Amitabha Sadangi from India,

भारत के अमिताभ सडाँगी,

who'd been working for 20 years with some of the poorest farmers on the planet.

जो लगभग २० सालों से धरती के शायद सबसे गरीब किसानों के साथ काम कर रहे हैं।

And he was expressing his frustration

और उन्होंने अपनी निराशा ज़ाहिर की

that the aid market had bypassed low-income farmers altogether,

despite the fact that 200 million farmers

alone in India make under a dollar a day.

They were creating subsidies

either for large farms,

or they were giving inputs to the farmers

that they thought they should use, rather than

that the farmers wanted to use.

At the same time Amitabha was

उसी समय अमिताभ भी

obsessed with this drip irrigation technology

ड्रिप-सिंचाई की तकनीक में आकंठ डूबे हुये थे

that had been invented in Israel.

जिसका ईज़ाद इज़राइल में हुआ था।

It was a way of bringing small amounts of water

ये पानी की थोडी थोडी मात्रा को

directly to the stalk of the plant.

सीधे पौधे तक पहुँचाने की तकनीक है।

And it could transform

और इस तकनीक ने

swaths of desert land into fields of emerald green.

रेगिस्तानों तक को हरे भरे खेतों में तब्दील कर डाला था।

But the market also had bypassed low income farmers,

और साथ ही बाज़ार-व्यवस्था ने भी गरीब किसानों को अनदेखा कर दिया था।

because these systems were both too expensive,

and they were constructed for fields that were too large.

केवल बडे खेतों में इस्तेमाल के लिये ही बनायी गयी थी।

The average small village farmer

आम छोटे गाँव का किसान

works on two acres or less.

ज्यादा से ज्यादा एक या दो एकड खेत में काम करता है।

And so, Amitabha decided that he would take that innovation

और इसलिये अमिताभ ने फ़ैसला किया कि वो इस तकनीक को

and he would redesign it from the perspective

दुबारा विकसित करेंगे उसे

of the poor farmers themselves,

गरीब किसानों के लिये उपयोगी बनाने के लिये।

because he spent so many years listening to what they needed

not what he thought that they should have.

And he used three fundamental principles.

The first one was miniaturization.

पहला था लघुकरण, चीज़ को छोटा बनाना।

The drip irrigation system

ड्रिप-सिंचाई व्यवसथा को

had to be small enough that a farmer only had

इतना छोटा होना होगा कि एक किसान को केवल

to risk a quarter acre,

चौथाई एकड ज़मीन में ही जोखिम उठाना पडे,

even if he had two,

चाहे उसके पास दो एकड खेत ही क्यों न हो,

because it was too frightening, given all that he had at stake.

क्योंकि असफ़लता का मतलब किसान के लिये भयंकर होता है।

Second, it had to be extremely affordable.

दूसरा, उसे बहुत ही सस्ता होना होगा।

In other words, that risk on the quarter acre

दूसरे शब्दों मे, चौथाई एकड पर उठाया गया जोखिम

needed to be repaid in a single harvest,

एक बार की फ़सल से ही चुकाया जा सके।

or else they wouldn't take the risk.

नहीं तो किसान तकनीक के इस्तेमाल का जोखिम उठाएँगे ही नहीं।

And third, it had to be what Amitabha calls

और तीसरा, जिसे अमिताभ कहते है

infinitely expandable.

बेहद विस्तार के काबिल हो।

What I mean is with the profits from the first quarter acre,

मेरा मतलब है कि पहले चौथाई एकड के मुनाफ़े से

the farmers could buy a second

किसान दूसरे के लिये खरीद सकें,

and a third and a fourth.

और फ़िर तीसरे, और फ़िर चौथे के लिये।

As of today, IDE India, Amitabha's organization,

आज, अमिताभ की संस्था, आई.डी.ई.,

has sold over 300,000 farmers these systems

३०० से ज्यादा किसानों को ये तकनीक बेच चुकी है

and has seen their yields and incomes

और उनकी पैदावार और कमाई

double or triple on average,

को औसतन दोगुना या तिगुना कर चुकी है।

but this didn't happen overnight.

पर ये अचानक हुआ चमत्कार नहीं है।

In fact, when you go back to the beginning,

there were no private investors

who would be willing to take a risk on building a new technology

for a market class that made under a dollar a day,

that were known to be some of the most risk-averse people on the planet

and that were working in one of the riskiest sectors, agriculture.

And so we needed grants. And he used significant grants

to research, to experiment, to fail,

And when he had a prototype

and had a better understanding of how to market to farmers,

that's when patient capital could come in.

And we helped him build a company, for profit,

that would build on IDE's knowledge,

and start looking at sales and exports,

Secondarily, we wanted to see if we could export

this drip irrigation and bring it into other countries.

And so we met Dr. Sono Khangharani in Pakistan.

And while, again, you needed patience

to move a technology for the poor

in India into Pakistan,

just to get the permits,

over time we were able to start a company

with Dr. Sono, who runs a large

And though that company has just started,

our assumption is that there too

we'll see the impact on millions.

But drip irrigation isn't the only innovation.

We're starting to see these happening all around the world.

In Arusha, Tanzania, A to Z Textile Manufacturing

has worked in partnership with us,

with UNICEF, with the Global Fund,

यूनिसेफ़ के साथ, वैश्विक निधियोंके साथ,

to create a factory that now employs 7,000 people, mostly women.

And they produce 20 million lifesaving bednets

और वो २ करोड जीवनदायी मच्छरदानियाँ

for Africans around the world.

Lifespring Hospital

लाइफ़स्प्रिंग हॉस्पिटल

is a joint venture between Acumen and the government of India

अक्यूमन और भारत सरकार के बीच एक साझा उपक्रम है

to bring quality, affordable maternal health care

गुणकारी और सस्ती जच्चा-बच्चा स्वास्थ सेवा को

to low-income women,

गरीब महिलाओं तक पहुँचवा पाने के लिये।

and it's been so successful that it's currently building

और ये इतना सफ़ल हुआ है कि आजकल

a new hospital every 35 days.

And 1298 Ambulances decided that it was going to

reinvent a completely broken industry,

building an ambulance service in Bombay

that would use the technology of Google Earth,

So that in the terrorist attacks of November

they were the first responder,

and are now beginning to scale, because of partnership.

They've just won four government contracts to build off their 100 ambulances,

and are one of the largest and most effective ambulance companies

This idea of scale is critical.

Because we're starting to see these enterprises

reach hundreds of thousands of people. All of the ones I discussed

But that's obviously not enough.

Whether it's by finding those innovations

that can access the capital markets,

government itself, or partner with major corporations,

there is unbelievable opportunity for innovation.

President Obama understands that.

He recently authorized the creation of a Social Innovation Fund

to focus on what works in this country,

and look at how we can scale it.

और मैं तो ये भी कहूँगी कि समय आ गया है कि कल्पना की जाये

a global innovation fund

ऐसी ही नवप्रवर्तन निधि की जो कि विस्व स्तर पर काम करे,

that would find these entrepreneurs around the world

जो कि संसार भर के उद्यमियों को ढूँढे,

who really have innovations, not only for their country,

जिन्होंने कुछ नया किया है, न सिर्फ़ अपने देश के लिये,

but ones that we can use in the developed world as well.

बल्कि ऐसा कुछ जिसे हम विकसित देशों में भी इस्तेमाल कर सकें।

Invest financial assistance, but also management assistance.

न सिर्फ़ पूँजी ही निवेश कीजिये, बल्कि प्रबंधन सहायता भी दीजिये।

And then measure the returns,

और फ़िर उस से हुए फ़ायदे को नापिये,

both from a financial perspective

वित्तीय दृष्टिकोण से,

and from a social impact perspective.

और सामाजिक असर के दृष्टिकोण से।

When we think about new approaches to aid,

हम जब अनुदान को लेकर अपने नए नज़रिये की बात करते हैं,

it's impossible not to talk about Pakistan.

तो पाकिस्तान पर बात न करना असंभव है।

We've had a rocky relationship with that country

इस देश से हमारी रिश्तेदारी बहुत ऊबड-खाबड रही है

and, in all fairness,

और यदि न्यायपूर्ण बात की जाये

the United States has not always been a very reliable partner.

तो अमरीका बहुत विश्वसनीय साझेदार नहीं रहा है।

But again I would say that this is our moment

मगर मैं फ़िर कहूँगी कि वो झण आ गया है

for extraordinary things to happen.

जब कि असाधारण चीज़ें होने वाली हैं।

And if we take that notion of a global innovation fund,

और अगर हम वैश्विक नवप्रवर्तन निधि की योजना को लें,

we could use this time to invest

तो हम इस समय सीधे

not directly in government, though we would have government's blessing,

सरकार में पैसा सीधे निवेश करने के बजाय, हालांकि हमें उनका सहारा चाहिये होगा,

nor in international experts,

और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय विदों में पैसा लगाने के बजाय,

but in the many existing entrepreneurs

काम कर रहे उद्यमियों में पैसा लगाये,

and civil society leaders

और सामजिक नेताओं में लगायें

who already are building wonderful innovations

जो कि पहले से ही गजब के नये तरीके विकसित कर रहे हैं

that are reaching people all across the country.

जो कि पूरे देश के लोगों तक पहुँच रहे हैं।

People like Rashani Zafar,

रशानी ज़फ़र जैसे लोग,

who created one of the largest microfinance banks in the country,

जिन्होनें देश के सबसे बडे लघुवित्त बैंक को बनाया,

and is a real role model for women inside and outside the country.

और अपने देश की और बाहर की औरतों के लिये आदर्श के रूप में उभरे।

And Tasneem Siddiqui, who developed a way

और तसनीम सिद्दिक़ि जिन्होनें तरीका निकाला

called incremental housing,

जिसे "बढोत्तरी-आधारित आवास" (incremental housing) कह सकते हैं,

where he has moved 40,000 slum dwellers

जिसके द्वारा उन्होंने चालीस हज़ार झुग्गी निवासियों का

into safe, affordable community housing.

सुरक्षित, सस्ते, सामुदायिक आवास योजनाओं में स्थानान्तरण कर पाया है।

Educational initiatives like DIL and The Citizen Foundation

शैक्षिक क्षेत्र में हुई पहलें जैसे के डी.आई.एल. और सिटिज़न फ़ाउन्डेशन

that are building schools across the country.

जो कि पूरे देश में स्कूल बना रहे हैं।

It's not hyperbole

और ये कहना अतिश्योक्ति नहीं होगा कि

to say that these civil society institutions

ये नागरिक संगठन

and these social entrepreneurs

और ये सामाजिक उद्यमी

are building real alternatives to the Taliban.

सच में तालिबान के मुकाबले कुछ असली विकल्प पैदा कर रहे हैं।

I've invested in Pakistan for over seven years now,

मुझे पाकिस्तान में निवेश करते हुए सात साल से भी ज्यादा हो चुके हैं

and those of you who've also worked there

और आप में से वो जिन्होंने वहाँ काम किया है

can attest that Pakistanis are an incredibly hard working population,

ये गवाही दे सकते हैं कि पाकिस्तानी लोग बहुत मेहनती होते हैं।

and there is a fierce upward mobility in their very nature.

और आगे बढना और तरक्की उनके खून में हैं।

President Kennedy said that

राष्ट्रपति कैनेडी ने कहा था कि

those who make peaceful revolution impossible

जो लोग अहिंसक आंदोलनों को असंभव बना देते हैं,

make violent revolution inevitable.

वो साथ ही हिंसक आंदोलनों को ज़रूरी बना देते हैं।

I would say that the converse is true.

मेरे हिसाब से सत्य उसका ठीक उल्टा है।

That these social leaders

ये कि सामाजिक अगुआ

who really are looking at innovation

जो कि सच में नवप्रवर्तन की ओर देख रहे हैं

and extending opportunity

और अवसर मुहैया करवा रहे हैं

to the 70 percent of Pakistanis who make less than two dollars a day,

उन सत्तर प्रतिशत पाकिस्तानियों को जो कि प्रतिदिन दो डॉलर से कम कमाते हैं,

provide real pathways to hope.

सच में आशा की ओर असली रास्ते पैदा कर रहे हैं।

And as we think about how we construct aid for Pakistan,

और हम सोच रहे हैं कि कैसे हम पाकिस्तान के लिये अनुदान का इन्तज़ाम करें,

while we need to strengthen the judiciary,

जहाँ न्यायपालिका को मज़बूत बनाने की ज़रूरत है,

build greater stability,

ज्यादा मज़बूत स्थिरता पैदा करने की ज़रूरत है,

we also need to think about lifting those leaders

वहीं हमें उन नेतृत्व करने वालों को आगे बढाने की भी ज़रूरत है

who can be role models for the rest of the world.

जो कि सारे विश्व के लिये आदर्श बन सकते हैं।

On one of my last visits to Pakistan,

हाल ही में मेरी एक पाकिस्तान यात्रा में

I asked Dr. Sono if he would take me

मैने डॉ. सोनो से पूछा कि क्या वो मुझे

to see some of the drip irrigation in the Thar Desert.

थार रेगिस्तान में ड्रिप सिंचाई का काम दिखाने ले जाएँगे।

And we left Karachi one morning before dawn.

तो हम एक सुबह कराँची से सूर्योदय के पहले ही निकल गये।

It was about 115 degrees.

करीब ११५ डिग्री फार्हेन्हाइट (४६ डिग्री सेल्सियस) का तापमान था।

And we drove for eight hours

और हमने करीब आठ घन्टे तक ड्राइव किया

along this moonscape-like landscape

ऐसे इलाके में जहाँ लग रहा था कि चाँद पर पहुँच गये हैं

with very little color, lots of heat,

बहुत ही कम रँग, बहुत ज्यादा गर्मी,

very little discussion, because we were exhausted.

बहुत कम बातचीत क्योंकि हम एकदम ही थके हुए थे।

And finally, at the end of the journey,

और अंततः हमारी यात्रा खत्म हुई

I could see this thin little yellow line across the horizon.

मुझे दूर क्षितिज पर एक पतली पीली रेखा दिख रही थी।

And as we got closer, its significance became apparent.

और जब हम नज़दीक आये, तो पूरा माज़रा समझ आया।

That there in the desert

कि वहाँ रेगिस्तान में बीचोंबीच

was a field of sunflowers growing seven feet tall.

सूरजमुखी का एक खेत था, जहाँ सात-सात फ़ीट लम्बे पौधे थे।

Because one of the poorest farmers on Earth

क्योंकि दुनिया के सबसे गरीब किसानों मे से एक को

had gotten access to a technology

एक ऐसी तकनीक तक पहुँच मिली थी

that had allowed him to change his own life.

जिसने उसे अपने जीवन को बदल देने में सक्षम बनाय था।

His name was Raja,

उसका नाम था राजा।

and he had kind, twinkly hazel eyes

और उसकी भूरी आँखों में उदारता और चमक थी,

and warm expressive hands

और उसके स्नेही बोलते-से हाथों ने

that reminded me of my father.

मुझे अपने पिता की याद दिलाई।

And he said it was the first dry season

और उसने कहा कि ये पहली गर्मी है

in his entire life that he hadn't taken

उसकी सारे जीवन में जब कि वो नहीं ले गया है

his 12 children and 50 grandchildren

अपने १२ बच्चों और पचास पोते-पोतियों

on a two day journey across the desert

को दो दिन लम्बी रेगिस्तानी यात्रा पर

to work as day laborers at a commercial farm

मज़दूरी करने के लिये, एक व्यापारिक खेत पर

for about 50 cents a day.

करीब आधा डॉलर प्रतिदिन पर (रुपये बीस प्रतिदिन)

Because he was building these crops.

क्योंकि वो इस सूरजमुखी की इस फ़सल को पैदा कर रहा था।

And with the money he earned he could stay this year.

और अपने कमाये पैसे की वजह से उसे इस साल ये सफ़र नहीं करना पडा था।

And for the first time ever in three generations,

और उसके परिवार की तीन पीढियों में,

his children would go to school.

पहली बार उसके बच्चे स्कूल जायेंगे।

We asked him if he would send his daughters as well as his sons.

हमने उससे पूछा कि क्या वो अपनी बेटियों को भी बेटों के साथ पढने भेजेगा।

And he said, "Of course I will.

और उसने कहा, "बिलकुल, मैं भेजूँगा।

Because I don't want them discriminated against anymore."

क्योंकि मैं नहीं चाहता कि बेटियों के साथ पक्षपात हो।"

When we think about solutions to poverty,

जब हम गरीबी की समस्या के उपाय सोचते हैं,

we cannot deny individuals

हम लोगों को

their fundamental dignity.

उनकी मौलिक गरिमा से अलग न करें।

Because at the end of the day,

क्योंकि अंततः

dignity is more important to the human spirit than wealth.

गरिमा इंसानों की आत्मा के लिये दौलत से ज्यादा महत्वपूर्ण होती है।

And what's exciting is to see so many entrepreneurs across sectors

और ये रोमांचक है कि इतने सारे उद्यमी अलग अलग क्षेत्रों में

who are building innovations that recognize

ऐसे नये प्रयोग कर रहे हैं जो ये समझते हैं

that what people want is freedom

कि लोग सच में जो चाहते हैं, वो है आज़ादी

and choice and opportunity.

और विकल्प और मौके।

Because that is where dignity really starts.

क्योंकि यहीं से गरिमा की शुरुवात होती है।

Martin Luther King said that

मार्टिन लूथर किंग ने कहा था कि

love without power is anemic and sentimental,

बिना बदलाव लाने के ताकत के सिर्फ़ प्रेम केवल भावनात्मक और जोशरहित होता है।

and that power without love

और ताकत मगर बिना प्रेम के

is reckless and abusive.

उजड्ड और शोषणकारी होती है।

Our generation has seen both approaches tried,

हमारी पीढी ने दोनो ही तरह के तरीकों से कोशिश की है,

and often fail.

और अक्सर मात खायी है।

But I think our generation also might be the first

मगर मैं समझता हूँ कि हमारी पीढी ने ही शायद पहली बार

to have the courage to embrace both love and power.

प्रेम और ताकत दोनों को साथ ले कर चलने की हिम्मत दिखायी है।

For that is what we'll need, as we move forward

क्योंकि जैसे जैसे हम आगे बढेंगे, हमें यही चाहिये होगा

to dream and imagine what it will really take

कि हम सपने देखें और सोचे कि हमें क्या करना होगा

to build a global economy that includes all of us,

एक ऐसी वैश्विक अर्थव्यवस्था बनाने के लिये, जिसमें हम सब निहित हों।

and to finally extend that fundamental proposition

और आखिर में एक मौलिक मत को कि

that all men are created equal to every human being on the planet.

सब इंसान बराबर हैं, इस धरती के हर इंसान को समझाने के लिये।

The time for us to begin innovating

समय आ गया है कि हम सब नव-प्रवर्तन में जुटे,

and looking for new solutions, a cross sector, is now.

और नये उपाय निकालें।

I can only talk from my own experience,

मैं सिर्फ़ अपने अनुभव से ही बोल सकती हूँ।

but in eight years of running Acumen fund,

परंतु अक्यूमन फ़ंड को चलाने के पिछले आठ सालों में,

I've seen the power of patient capital.

मैने धैर्यवान पूँजी की ताकत को देखा है।

Not only to inspire innovation and risk taking,

न केवल नव-प्रवर्तन को आगे बढाने के लिये और जोखिम उठाने के लिये,

but to truly build systems that have created

पर ऐसी व्यवस्थाओं को जन्म देने के लिये जिन्होंने

more than 25,000 jobs

२५ हज़ार से भी ज्यादा रोजगार पैदा किये हैं

and delivered tens of millions of services and products

और करोंडों सेवाओं और उत्पादों को

to some of the poorest people on the planet.

दुनिया के कुछ सबसे गरीब लोगों तक पहुँचाया है।

I know it works.

मुझे पता है कि धैर्यवान पूँजी काम करती है।

But I know that many other kinds of innovation also work.

मगर मुझे ये भी पता है कि कई और प्रकार के उपाय भी काम करते हैं।

And so I urge you, in whatever sector you work,

और इसलिये मैं आपसे अपील करती हूँ, कि जिस भी क्षेत्र में आप काम करते हों,

in whatever job you do,

और जिस भी रोज़गार में आप हों,

to start thinking about how we might

ये सोचना शुरु कीजिये कि कैसे हम

build solutions that start

ऐसे उपाय निकाले जो कि

from the perspective of those we're trying to help.

उनके नज़रिये से सोचना शुरु करें जिनकी हम मदद करना चाहते हैं।

Rather than what we think that they might need.

इसके बचाय कि हम सोचें कि उन्हें क्या ज़रूरत है

It will take embracing the world with both arms.

इसके लिये हमें सारी दुनिया दोनो हाथों से गले लगाना होगा।

And it will take living with the spirit of generosity and accountability,

और इसके लिये हमें अपना दिल बडा करना होगा, और जिम्मेदारी लेनी होगी,

with a sense of integrity and perseverance.

सत्यनिष्ठा और पूरी मेहनत के साथ।

And yet these are the very qualities

और यही वो गुण हैं

for which men and women have been honored

जिसके लिये इंसानों को पुरस्कृत किया गया है

throughout the generations.

पीढी दर पीढी।

And there is so much good that we can do.

और इतना कुछ अच्छा है जो कि हम कर सकते हैं।

Just think of all those sunflowers in the desert.

ज़रा रेगिस्तान में उगते हुए उन सूरजमुखी के सुंदर पौधों के बारे में सोचिये।
