Silent P Words | Learn English Pronunciation Rules

Hi. This is Bill. And I'm here to help you with some pronunciation. 

မင်္ဂလာပါ ဒါက Bill ပါ။ အသံထွက်အချို့ကို ကူညီရန် ကျွန်ုပ်ရောက်ရှိနေပါသည်။

Okay. Sometimes in English, we have  

ဟုတ်ပြီ တစ်ခါတရံမှာ အင်္ဂလိပ်လို

words that have letters we don't pronounce. We call them silent letters. 

အသံထွက်မရတဲ့ စာလုံးတွေရှိတယ်။ အဲဒါတွေကို အသံတိတ်စာတွေလို့ခေါ်တယ်။

And, well, right here, I'm going to tell you  about how the letter P can sometimes be silent. 

ပြီးတော့ ဒီမှာ စာလုံး P က တစ်ခါတလေ နှုတ်ဆိတ်နေပုံအကြောင်း ပြောပြမယ်။

Now, this happens when the word begins with  the letter P but then it is followed by another  

ယခု စကားလုံးသည် P ဖြင့် အစပြုသော်လည်း ၎င်းနောက်တွင် အခြား

consonant. Now, this is when we ignore the letter  P and we do not actually pronounce that letter. 

ဗျည်းဖြင့် နောက်တွင် ဖြစ်ပေါ်လာသည်။ အခုက P ဆိုတဲ့ စာလုံးကို လျစ်လျူရှုပြီး အဲဒီစာလုံးကို အမှန်အတိုင်း အသံထွက်ခြင်း မရှိပါဘူး။

It is only silent. So let's look right here. 

ဆိတ်ဆိတ်နေခြင်းသာဖြစ်၏။ ဒီတော့ ဒီမှာကြည့်ရအောင်။

What I have in this word ,PN begins the  word, but I'm not going to say ‘pu-neumonia’. 

ဒီစကားလုံးမှာ PN က စကားလုံးကို အစပြုထားပေမယ့် 'pu-neumonia' လို့ မပြောပါဘူး။

Okay. The P is silent. 

ဟုတ်ပြီ P က တိတ်ဆိတ်နေတယ်။

So all I'm going to say is ‘pneumonia’. Okay. 

ဒီတော့ ကျွန်တော်ပြောချင်တာက 'နမိုးနီးယား' ပါ။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

And ‘pneumonia’ is a sickness  that you get in your lungs. 

ပြီးတော့ 'နမိုးနီးယား' ဟာ မင်းရဲ့ အဆုတ်ထဲ ရောက်တဲ့ ရောဂါတစ်ခုပါ။

That you know … when you're  breathing, you can get sick. 

မင်းသိလား… အသက်ရှုတဲ့အခါ ဖျားနိုင်တယ်။

It's more common in the wintertime. And it's kind of serious. 

ဆောင်းရာသီမှာ ပိုအဖြစ်များပါတယ်။ ပြီးတော့ အဲဒါက လေးနက်တယ်။

So if you do have pneumonia, I hope you're  seeing a doctor, getting help for that. 

ဒါကြောင့် သင့်မှာ နမိုးနီးယားရှိနေရင် ဆရာဝန်နဲ့ပြသပြီး အကူအညီရယူဖို့ မျှော်လင့်ပါတယ်။

But please, the help I can give  you is don't say, “pu-neumonia.” 

ဒါပေမယ့် ကျေးဇူးပြုပြီး ငါပေးနိုင်တဲ့အကူအညီက "pu-neumonia" လို့ မပြောပါနဲ့။

Just say, “pneumonia” And remember it's a lung sickness. 

“နမိုးနီးယား” ဟုသာပြောပြီး ၎င်းသည် အဆုတ်ရောဂါဖြစ်ကြောင်း သတိရပါ။

When you're breathing, it's  kind of like all right here. 

မင်းအသက်ရှုနေတဲ့အခါ၊ အဲဒါဟာ အားလုံးနဲ့တူတယ်။

Okay. Now, the next one here. 

ဟုတ်ပြီ ကဲ နောက်တစ်ခုဗျ။

It's not ‘P-salm’. All right. 

P-salm မဟုတ်ပါ။ ကောင်းပါပြီ။

Now, this, we just say ‘psalm’. Now, ‘psalm’ is, it's a part of the Bible. 

ယခု၊ ဤ၊ ငါတို့သည် ဆာလံ၊ ယခု 'ဆာလံ' သည် သမ္မာကျမ်းစာ၏ အစိတ်အပိုင်းတစ်ခုဖြစ်သည်။

If you read the Bible, if you go to church,

there's a part of the Bible  that's known as the Psalms.

Like Psalm 1 Psalm 2 and it's just  you know information from the Bible  

ဆာလံ ၁ ဆာလံ ၂ ကဲ့သို့ပင် သမ္မာကျမ်းစာမှ အချက်အလက်များ

and things like that. If you go to church,  

နှင့် ထိုကဲ့သို့သောအရာများကို သင်သိရုံသာဖြစ်သည်။ ဘုရားကျောင်းသွားရင်တော့

you probably talk about that sort of thing. But what we'll talk about right now is that  

ဒီလိုမျိုးအကြောင်းတွေ ပြောဖြစ်မှာပါ။ ဒါပေမယ့် အခုပြောမယ့်အချက်ကတော့

you should pronounce it ‘psalm’. Remember, we have a silent ‘p’,  

'ဆာလံ' လို့ အသံထွက်သင့်တယ်။ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့တွင် အသံတိတ် 'p' ရှိသည်၊

so just pronounce the ‘s’. Now, actually for the rest of these,  

ထို့ကြောင့် 's' ကို အသံထွက်ရုံသာ မှတ်ပါ။ အခု၊ ကျန်တဲ့အရာတွေအတွက်တော့

you notice PS is getting very common. Because as you look at the next one here,  

PS က အရမ်းအသုံးများလာတာကို သင်သတိထားမိတယ်။ ဘာဖြစ်လို့လဲဆိုတော့ နောက်တစ်ခုက ဒီမှာကြည့်တဲ့

‘psychology’. Okay. 

'စိတ်ပညာ'။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

Now, ‘psychology’ is a subject that maybe  you or someone you know studies in school. 

ယခု 'စိတ်ပညာ' သည် သင် သို့မဟုတ် သင်သိသော ကျောင်းတွင် သင်လေ့လာနေသည့် ဘာသာရပ်တစ်ခုဖြစ်သည်။

‘psychology’ is all about how people think. It's like the way the mind works. 

'စိတ်ပညာ' သည် လူတို့၏ တွေးခေါ်ပုံနှင့် ပတ်သက်သည်။ စိတ်က အလုပ်လုပ်ပုံနဲ့တူတယ်။

Like why we think the way we do. That's the study of psychology.

Again, not ‘p-sychology’, just ‘psychology’. So then, down here on the next one,

similar to ‘psychology’, we have ‘psychiatrist’. Now, ‘psychiatrist’ is a doctor who is an expert  

'စိတ်ပညာ' နဲ့တူတဲ့ 'စိတ်ရောဂါ' ရှိတယ်။ ယခုအခါ 'စိတ်ရောဂါ' သည် 'စိတ်ပညာ' ကျွမ်းကျင်သူ ဆရာဝန်တစ်ဦးဖြစ်သည်

of ‘psychology’. Okay.

They've studied psychology all through university. They know psychology. 

သူတို့သည် တက္ကသိုလ်တစ်လျှောက်လုံး စိတ်ပညာကို လေ့လာခဲ့သည်။ သူတို့က စိတ်ပညာကို သိတယ်။

They help people who want to talk to  someone about how they're thinking.

You know, they want to see  a doctor about their mind,

they see the psychiatrist. And he helps them with  

စိတ်ပိုင်းဆိုင်ရာပြဿနာတွေ ဒါမှမဟုတ် အဲဒီလိုအရာတွေနဲ့

emotional problems or things like that. But, yes, so a psychiatrist studied psychology. 

ကူညီပေးတယ် ။ ဒါပေမယ့် ဟုတ်တယ်၊ ဒါကြောင့် စိတ်ရောဂါကုဆရာဝန်က စိတ်ပညာကို လေ့လာခဲ့တယ်။

Now, also similar, we have the ‘psychic’. Now, ‘psychic’ doesn't study psychology. 

အခုလည်း အလားတူပါပဲ၊ ငါတို့မှာ 'စိတ်' ရှိတယ်။ ယခု 'စိတ်ပညာ' သည် စိတ်ပညာကို မလေ့လာတော့ပါ။

The psychic is more of a fortune-teller. If you're curious, or you want to get  

အကြားအမြင်က ဗေဒင်ဆရာက ပိုမှန်တယ်။ စူးစမ်းချင်စိတ်၊ သို့မဟုတ် အနာဂတ်အကြောင်း အကြံဉာဏ်

an idea about the future, you might visit a psychic. 

ရယူလိုလျှင် စိတ်ပညာရှင်ထံ သွားရောက်နိုင်ပါသည်။

And maybe they check your  hand or they look at cards,

but a psychic tries to tell you about your future, and that's what they do.

you've probably heard this before is ‘psycho’. Alright this is someone whose mind is a little  

'စိတ်ပညာ' လို့ မင်းအရင်က ကြားဖူးမယ်ထင်တယ်။ ကောင်းပြီ ဒါက နည်းနည်းတော့

broken. Okay. 

ကွဲနေတဲ့လူပဲ။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

Maybe they do bad things because of it. Many many scary movies have a psycho character  

အဲဒါတွေကြောင့် မကောင်းတာတွေ လုပ်ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်။ ကြောက်စရာကောင်းတဲ့ ရုပ်ရှင်တော်တော်များများမှာ

in them who's causing problems for other people. So, yeah, we have that the psycho person. 

တခြားသူတွေကို ပြဿနာဖြစ်စေတဲ့ စိတ်ပိုင်းဆိုင်ရာ ဇာတ်ကောင်တွေ ပါဝင်ပါတယ်။ ဟုတ်တယ်၊ ငါတို့မှာ အဲဒီ စိတ်ရောဂါရှိသူရှိတယ်။

It's kind of, maybe even a  little crazy here, but okay. 

ဒီနေရာက နည်းနည်း ရူးချင်တောင် ရူးချင်စရာကောင်းပေမယ့် ဟုတ်ပါတယ်။

So as you notice, PS very  common, but don't say the P. 

သတိပြုမိသည့်အတိုင်း PS သည် အလွန်အသုံးများသော်လည်း P ကို ​​မပြောပါနှင့်

in something you're reading, just remember, there's a silent P, when the word begins with P,  

ဖတ်နေတဲ့ တစ်ခုခုမှာ P ဆိုတဲ့ စကားလုံးက P နဲ့ အစပြုတဲ့ အချိန်မှာ အသံတိတ် P ရှိတယ် ၊
