One of them is wrong.

အဲဒီထဲက တစ်ယောက်က မှားတယ်။

ဘယ်ဟာမှားနေလဲ မသိရင် ဆက်ကြည့်ဖို့ အကြံပြုချင်ပါတယ်။

မင်္ဂလာပါ သူငယ်​ချင်း​လေး​တွေ ကျွန်​​တော့်​နာမည်​ Fanny ပါ၊ ဒီ Video ထဲမှာ အင်္ဂလိပ်​လို စာလုံး​ပေါင်းအမှားကြီး

spelling mistake in English.

တစ်​ခုကို ​ပြောပြ​ပေးပါ့မယ် ​။

Among students, but also, among native speakers.

ကျောင်းသားများကြားတွင်သာမက မိခင်ဘာသာစကားပြောသူများကြားတွင်လည်း ပါဝင်သည်။

It's a difference between 'it's' meaning 'it is'.

'အဲဒါ' အဓိပ္ပာယ် 'အဲ' အကြား ခြားနားချက်။

And 'its' being the possessive adjective.

ပြီးတော့ 'its' ဆိုတာက အပိုင်နာမ်ပါပဲ။

Okay let's and take a few sentences  and I'm sure you'll get it.

ကောင်းပြီ စာကြောင်းအနည်းငယ်ယူရအောင်၊ သင်ရနိုင်မယ်ဆိုတာ သေချာပါတယ်။

So we have 'It's a sunny day'.

ဒါကြောင့် 'ဒါဟာ နေသာတဲ့နေ့' ရှိတယ်။

In this case 'it's' is the verb 'to be'.

ဒီနေရာမှာ 'it' က ကြိယာ 'to be' ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

So it means 'It is a sunny day'.

ထို့ကြောင့် 'နေသာသောနေ့' ဟု ဆိုလိုသည်။

If we take the second sentence:

ဒုတိယဝါကျကို ယူရင်

'The dog ate its food'.

'ခွေးက အစာစားတယ်'။

This is not the verb 'to be'.

ဤသည်မှာ 'to be' ဟူသော ကြိယာမဟုတ်ပါ။

It's the possessive adjectives  for an object or an animal.

၎င်းသည် အရာဝတ္ထု သို့မဟုတ် တိရစ္ဆာန်အတွက် ပိုင်ဆိုင်သော နာမဝိသေသနဖြစ်သည်။

So the food belongs to the dog. It is its food.

ဒီတော့ အစားအသောက်က ခွေးပိုင်တယ်။ ၎င်းသည် ၎င်း၏အစားအစာဖြစ်သည်။

Okay so these are two different cases

ဟုတ်ပြီ အဲဒါတွေက မတူညီတဲ့ ဖြစ်ရပ်နှစ်ခု

but sometimes when we write, we confuse the two,

ဖြစ်ပေမယ့် တစ်ခါတရံမှာ ကျွန်တော်တို့ ရေးတဲ့အခါ နှစ်ခုကို ရှုပ်ယှက်ခတ်

and we will write the dog ate it's food with apostrophe s.

ပြီး ခွေးက အစာစားတဲ့ apostrophe s နဲ့ ရေးပေးမယ်။

you know getting confused  between its possessive adjectives

၎င်း၏ပိုင်ဆိုင်ရာနာမဝိသေသနများကြားတွင် ရှုပ်ထွေးနေပြီး

and it's being the contraction  of the verb 'to be'.

၎င်းသည် ကြိယာ 'to be' ၏ ကျုံ့ခြင်းဖြစ်နေသည်ကို သင်သိသည်။

This is a very common mistake.

ဒါဟာ အလွန်အဖြစ်များတဲ့ အမှားတစ်ခုပါ။

if we take for example the sentence:

ဥပမာ-

'Its my pen'.

'Its my pen' ဆိုတဲ့ ဝါကျကို ယူရင်။

Now look at the sentence.

အခု စာကြောင်းကို ကြည့်ပါ။

What do you think?

သင်ဘယ်လိုထင်ပါလဲ?

Is this right? Or is this the wrong spelling?

ဒါမှန်ရဲ့လား? ဒါမှမဟုတ် ဒါက စာလုံးပေါင်းမှားနေတာလား။

Well it's wrong.

အင်း မှားတယ်။

'It's my pen' is the verb 'to be'.

'It's my pen' သည် 'to be' ကြိယာဖြစ်သည်။

Now the best tip that I can give you

အခု မင်းကို စိတ်ရှုပ်နေရင် ငါပေးနိုင်တဲ့ အကောင်းဆုံး အကြံဥာဏ်ကို

if you get confused, try and say it with the full form.

အပြည့်အစုံနဲ့ ပြောစမ်းပါ။

Try and say 'It is'.

ကြိုးစားပြီး 'အဲဒါ' လို့ ပြောပါ။

If it makes sense, then it's the contraction of the verb 'to be'

နားလည်သဘောပေါက်ပါက၊ ကြိယာ 'to be' ၏ ကျုံ့ခြင်းဖြစ်ပြီး

and it should be apostrophe 's'.

apostrophe 's' ဖြစ်သင့်သည်။

If it doesn't make sense, then it's probably the possessive adjective.

အဓိပ္ပာယ်မရှိရင်၊ အဲဒါဟာ အပိုင်နာမ်ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်။

So for example, I can say, 'It is a sunny day'.

ဥပမာအားဖြင့် 'ဒါဟာ နေသာတဲ့နေ့' လို့ ဆိုနိုင်ပါတယ်။

That makes sense.

အဲဒါက အဓိပ္ပာယ်ရှိတယ်။

Can I say the dog ate it is food?

ခွေးစားတာက အစာလို့ ပြောလို့ရမလား။

No, I can't. that doesn't make any sense.

မဟုတ်ဘူး၊ ငါမလုပ်နိုင်ဘူး။ အဲဒါက ဘာမှအဓိပ္ပာယ်မရှိပါဘူး။

Okay if I say, 'It's my pen',

'ဒါ ငါ့ဘောပင်' လို့ပြောရင်

What do you think? Can I say 'It is my pen'?

မင်းဘယ်လိုထင်လဲ။ 'အဲဒါ ငါ့ဘောပင်'လို့ ပြောလို့ရမလား။

I can.

ငါလုပ်နိုင်တယ်။

So it's actually the  contraction of the verb 'to be'.

ဒီတော့ ဒါက ကြိယာ 'to be' ရဲ့ ကျုံ့ခြင်းပါပဲ။

So it should be 'it' + apostrophe 's' + my pen.

ဒါကြောင့် 'it' + apostrophe 's' + my pen ဖြစ်သင့်တယ်။

And just so you know one last thing.

ဒါမှ မင်းနောက်ဆုံးတစ်ခုသိတယ်။

Be careful because sometimes in some cases

အချို့သောကိစ္စများတွင်

'it's' can also be the contraction of  the verb 'to have' and not 'to be'.

'it' သည် 'to have' နှင့် 'to be' မဟုတ်သောကြောင့် သတိထားပါ။

If we take those two sentences:

အဲဒီစာကြောင်းနှစ်ကြောင်းကို ယူရင်

It's been great to meet you.

မင်းနဲ့တွေ့ရတာ အရမ်းကောင်းပါတယ်။

It means - It has been great to meet you.

ဆိုလိုသည်မှာ - မင်းနဲ့တွေ့ရတာ အရမ်းကောင်းပါတယ်။

'It's got four legs' means it has got four legs.

'ခြေထောက်လေးချောင်းရှိတယ်' ဆိုလိုတာက ခြေလေးချောင်းရှိတယ်။

Okay so the verb in those cases is 'to have' so be careful.

ဟုတ်ပြီ အဲဒီကြိယာက 'to have' ဆိုတော့ သတိထားပါ။

Okay guys I hope you now understand the difference

အိုကေ ကြိယာ

between the contraction of the verb 'to be' and the possessive adjective 'its'.

'to be' နှင့် possessive adjective 'its' အကြား ခြားနားချက်ကို ယခု သင် နားလည်နိုင်မည်ဟု မျှော်လင့်ပါသည်။

ပြီးတော့ ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ 'အဲဒီမှာ' ကို အာရုံစိုက်ပါမယ်။

The word, ‘there’.

'ဟိုမှာ' ဆိုတဲ့စကားလုံး။

it has three different forms, and they’re quite confusing for students.

၎င်းတွင် မတူညီသော ပုံစံသုံးမျိုးရှိပြီး ၎င်းတို့သည် ကျောင်းသားများအတွက် အတော်လေး ရှုပ်ထွေးစေပါသည်။

Now, we’re going to talk about spelling mistakes and pronunciation mistakes.

အခု စာလုံးပေါင်းအမှားတွေနဲ့ အသံထွက်အမှားတွေအကြောင်း ပြောပါမယ်။

Ok, just so you know.

အိုကေ၊ ဒီလောက်ပဲ သိလား။

Now the first sentence, There is a house.

အခု ပထမဝါကျမှာ အိမ်တစ်လုံးရှိတယ်။

It is the very basic for ‘there is’ in English to show something.

တစ်ခုခုကိုပြရန် အင်္ဂလိပ်လို ' there is ' အတွက် အခြေခံဖြစ်သည်။

If we take the second sentence, It’s their house.

ဒုတိယဝါကျကို ယူရင် ဒါဟာ သူတို့အိမ်ပဲ။

It’s a different form of ‘their’.

'သူတို့' ၏ ကွဲပြားသော ပုံစံဖြစ်သည်။

In this case, as you probably know, it’s the possessive.

ဤကိစ္စတွင်၊ သင်သိသည့်အတိုင်း၊ ၎င်းသည် ပိုင်ဆိုင်မှုဖြစ်သည်။

Ok?

The house belongs to them.

အိုကေ?

အိမ်က သူတို့ပိုင်တယ်။

It’s their house.

အဲဒါ သူတို့အိမ်ပဲ။

And in the third sentence, They’re in the house.

တတိယဝါကျမှာ သူတို့အိမ်ထဲမှာ ရှိနေတယ်။

It’s obviously the contraction of the verb, ‘to be’, so

'to be' ကြိယာ၏ ကျုံ့ခြင်းမှာ ထင်ရှားသောကြောင့်

They are in the house.

They are in the house.

Ok, so three different forms.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ပုံစံသုံးမျိုး။

Now, listen very carefully.

အခု သေသေချာချာ နားထောင်ပါ။

I’m going to pronounce the three forms.

ပုံစံသုံးမျိုးနဲ့ အသံထွက်ပါမယ်။

There Their 

ဟိုမှာ

They're

သူတို့ သူတို့

Now, can you hear a difference?

အခုရှိနေတယ်၊ ​​ခြားနားချက်တစ်ခုကို ကြားနိုင်မလား။

I can’t.

ငါမလုပ်နိုင်ဘူး။

There is no difference, guys.

ကွာခြားမှုမရှိပါဘူး၊ ယောက်ျားလေးတွေ။

The pronunciation is exactly the same.

အသံထွက်ကတော့ အတူတူပါပဲ။

And because the pronunciation is the same, many students gets confused when they write.

အသံထွက်ချင်း တူညီသောကြောင့် ကျောင်းသားအများအပြား ရေးသောအခါတွင် စိတ်ရှုပ်သွားကြသည်။

And they make spelling mistakes.

ပြီးတော့ စာလုံးပေါင်းအမှားတွေ လုပ်ကြတယ်။

Ok?

So be really careful when you write.

အိုကေ?

ဒါကြောင့် စာရေးတဲ့အခါ သတိထားပါ။

You have to know whether it’s the basic form ‘there is’,

အခြေခံပုံစံ ' there is ' ၊

The possessive adjective, ‘there’, or the contraction of ‘they are’.

အပိုင်နာမဝိသေသန ' there ' ၊ သို့မဟုတ် ' they are ' ၏ ကျုံ့ခြင်း ဟုတ်မဟုတ် သိရန် လိုအပ်သည် ။

This is very important not to make spelling mistakes.

စာလုံးပေါင်းအမှားမဖြစ်အောင် လုပ်ဖို့က အရမ်းအရေးကြီးပါတယ်။

And when you pronounce them, don’t make it more complicated than it is.

သူတို့ကို အသံထွက်တဲ့အခါ၊ အဲဒါထက် ပိုရှုပ်ထွေးအောင် မလုပ်ပါနဲ့။

The sound is exactly the same.

အသံကတော့ အတူတူပါပဲ။

Ok, guys.

Back to our listening test now.

ကျွန်ုပ်တို့၏ နားဆင်စမ်းသပ်မှုကို ယခု ပြန်သွားရန်။

Am I saying number one, number two, or number three?

နံပါတ်တစ်၊ နံပါတ်နှစ် ဒါမှမဟုတ် နံပါတ်သုံးလို့ပြောနေတာလား။

Listen very carefully.

အရမ်းဂရုတစိုက်နားထောင်ပါ။

There / Their / They’re.

အဲဒီမှာ / သူတို့ / သူတို့။

အလွန်အသုံးများတဲ့ အင်္ဂလိပ်အမှားတစ်ခုအကြောင်း ပြောပြမယ် ။

Mostly when speaking English.

အများစုကတော့ အင်္ဂလိပ်လို ပြောတတ်ကြတယ်။

It's the difference between the words 'good' and 'well'.

'ကောင်း' နှင့် 'ကောင်း' ဟူသော စကားလုံးတို့၏ ကွာခြားချက်ဖြစ်သည်။

Do you know the difference between the two words?

စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးကြား ခြားနားချက်ကို သင်သိပါသလား။

It's not so much a writing mistake.

စာရေးတာ သိပ်မှားတာမဟုတ်ဘူး။

It's more of a speaking mistake.

စကားပြောမှားတာက ပိုမှန်တယ်။

Especially, in familiar contexts, but you need to know about it and to fix it,

အထူးသဖြင့် အကျွမ်းတဝင်ရှိသော အခြေအနေများတွင်၊ သို့သော် အင်္ဂလိပ်စကား ကောင်းမွန်စွာ ထုတ်ဖော်ပြသလိုပါက

if you want to show off and speak good English.

၎င်းအကြောင်းကို သိထားရန်နှင့် ပြုပြင်ရန် လိုအပ်ပါသည်

So let's get started with a few examples.

။ ဒီတော့ ဥပမာအနည်းငယ်နဲ့ စကြည့်ရအောင်။

‘He is a good tennis player.’

'သူဟာ တင်းနစ်ကစားသမားကောင်းတစ်ယောက်ပါ။'

Do you think that sentence is right?

အဲဒီစာကြောင်းက မှန်တယ်လို့ ထင်ပါသလား။

It is right.

မှန်တယ်။

Why?

အဘယ်ကြောင့်?

Because we have the adjective ‘good’ and then the noun ‘tennis player’.

အဘယ်ကြောင့်ဆိုသော် ကျွန်ုပ်တို့တွင် နာမဝိသေသန 'ကောင်း' နှင့် နာမ် 'တင်းနစ်ကစားသမား' ရှိသည်။

An adjective, as you know, describes a noun.

နာမဝိသေသနတစ်ခုသည် သင်သိသည့်အတိုင်း နာမ်တစ်ခုကို ဖော်ပြသည်။

Okay so how is the tennis player?

ဟုတ်ပြီ တင်းနစ်ကစားသမား ဘယ်လိုလဲ။

The tennis player is good.

တင်းနစ်ကစားသမားက ကောင်းပါတယ်။

Okay?

အဆင်ပြေလား?

When you say, ‘You speak good English’

'မင်း အင်္ဂလိပ်လို ကောင်းကောင်းပြောတတ်တယ်' လို့ ပြောတဲ့အခါ

That's also a correct sentence.

ဒါဟာ မှန်ကန်တဲ့ စာကြောင်းလည်း ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

You have a noun – ‘English’.

သင့်တွင် 'အင်္ဂလိပ်' ဟူသော နာမ်တစ်ခုရှိသည်။

And an adjective describing that noun – ‘good’.

ပြီးတော့ အဲဒီနာမ်ကို ဖော်ပြတဲ့ နာမဝိသေသန- 'ကောင်းတယ်'။

So how is your English?

ဒါဆို မင်းအင်္ဂလိပ်စာက ဘယ်လိုလဲ။

It's good.

အဲဒါကောင်းတယ်။

Third sentence is also a correct sentence.

တတိယဝါကျသည်လည်း မှန်ကန်သောဝါကျဖြစ်သည်။

‘Your English is good’.

'မင်း အင်္ဂလိပ်စာ ကောင်းတယ်'

As I've just said, an adjective that describes a noun.

ငါပြောခဲ့သလိုပဲ နာမ်တစ်ခုကို ဖော်ပြတဲ့ နာမ်။

Now if we say, ‘This tennis player plays well’.

'ဒီတင်းနစ်ကစားသမားက ကောင်းကောင်းကစားတယ်' လို့ပြောရင်၊

Is this correct?

ဒါက မှန်ပါသလား။

It is correct because in this case,

ဤကိစ္စတွင်

you have no adjectives, but you have an adverb.

သင့်တွင် နာမဝိသေသနမရှိသော်လည်း သင့်တွင် ကြိယာဝိသေသနရှိသောကြောင့် မှန်ကန်ပါသည်။

Now an adverb describes a verb, another adverb, or an adjective.

ယခုကြိယာဝိသေသနတစ်ခုသည် ကြိယာတစ်ခု၊ အခြားကြိယာဝိသေသန သို့မဟုတ် နာမဝိသေသနတစ်ခုကို ဖော်ပြသည်။

In this sentence, it describes the verb 'plays'.

ဤဝါကျတွင်၊ ၎င်းသည် ကြိယာ 'plays' ကိုဖော်ပြသည်။

Okay, how do you play?

ကောင်းပြီ၊ မင်းဘယ်လိုကစားလဲ။

You play well.

မင်း ကောင်းကောင်းကစားတယ်။

So 'well' is an adverb.

ထို့ကြောင့် 'ကောင်း' သည် ကြိယာဝိသေသနဖြစ်သည်။

‘You speak English well’ is also correct.

'မင်း အင်္ဂလိပ်လို ကောင်းကောင်းပြောတတ်တယ်' ဆိုတာလည်း မှန်ပါတယ်။

The adverb, ‘well’, describes the verb 'to speak'.

ကြိယာဝိသေသန 'ကောင်း' သည် 'စကားပြောရန်' ကြိယာကို ဖော်ပြသည်။

Okay so there is a difference.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ကွာခြားချက်တစ်ခုရှိသည်။

The adjective is good.

နာမ်က ကောင်းတယ်။

The adverb is well.

ကြိယာဝိသေသနသည် ကောင်း၏။

So when you say, ‘You play good’,

ဒီတော့ 'မင်းကစားတာကောင်းတယ်' လို့ ပြောတဲ့အခါ

do you think that's right?

မှန်တယ်ထင်လား။

I don't.

ငါမလုပ်ဘူး။

It's incorrect and you will hear many native speakers tell you that.

၎င်းသည် မှားယွင်းနေပြီး ဇာတိစပီကာများစွာက သင့်အား ထိုသို့ပြောသည်ကို သင်ကြားလိမ့်မည်။

Tell you, ‘You play good’.

'မင်း ကစားတာကောင်းတယ်' လို့ ပြောပါ။

But this is incorrect.

ဒါပေမယ့် ဒါက မမှန်ပါဘူး။

Why?

အဘယ်ကြောင့်?

Remember what we said, ‘good’ is an adjective.

'ကောင်း' ဟူသည် နာမဝိသေသနဖြစ်သည်၊

It describes a noun.

နာမ်တစ်ခုကို ဖော်ပြသည်။

Do you see a noun in that sentence?

အဲဒီဝါကျမှာ နာမ်ကို မြင်ပါသလား။

I don't.

ငါမလုပ်ဘူး။

But we have a verb, ‘you play’, so what you need is not an adjective,

ဒါပေမယ့် ငါတို့မှာ ကြိယာတစ်ခုရှိတယ်၊ ဒါကြောင့် မင်းလိုအပ်တာက နာမဝိသေသနမဟုတ်ဘူး၊

it's an adverb.

အဲဒါက ကြိယာဝိသေသနပဲ။

‘You play well’.

'မင်း ကောင်းကောင်းကစားတယ်'

If you say, ‘You speak English good’,

'မင်း အင်္ဂလိပ်လို ကောင်းတယ်' လို့ ပြောရင်

again incorrect.

မှားပြန်တယ်။

Because you need to describe the verb ‘speak’.

အဘယ်ကြောင့်ဆိုသော် သင်သည် ကြိယာ 'speak' ကို ဖော်ပြရန် လိုအပ်သောကြောင့် ဖြစ်သည်။

So you need an adverb.

ဒါကြောင့် ကြိယာဝိသေသနတစ်ခုလိုတယ်။

‘You speak English well’.

'မင်း အင်္ဂလိပ်စကား ကောင်းကောင်းပြောတတ်တယ်'

Okay?

အဆင်ပြေလား?

So it's very important for you to know the difference between adjectives

ထို့ကြောင့် နာမဝိသေသန

and adverbs.

နှင့် ကြိယာဝိသေသန

Especially in this case, with ‘good’ as an adjective

တို့၏ ခြားနားချက်ကို သိရန်မှာ အလွန်အရေးကြီးပါသည် ။ အထူးသဖြင့် ဤကိစ္စတွင် နာမဝိသေသနအဖြစ် 'ကောင်း'

and ‘well’ as an adverb’.

နှင့် 'ကောင်း' ကြိယာဝိသေသနအဖြစ်။

So please try to remember these rules.

ဒါကြောင့် ဒီစည်းကမ်းတွေကို မှတ်သားထားဖို့ ကြိုးစားပါ။

Try to use it properly and speak good English. 

အင်္ဂလိပ်လို ကောင်းကောင်းသုံးတတ်အောင် ကြိုးစားပါ။

and in this video I'm gonna tell you about the  most common English mistake in the universe.

ပြီးတော့ ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ စကြာဝဠာမှာ အဖြစ်အများဆုံး အင်္ဂလိပ်အမှားအကြောင်း ပြောပြမယ်။

Now even native speakers make that mistake.

အခုအချိန်မှာတော့ မူရင်းဘာသာစကားပြောသူတွေတောင် ဒီလိုအမှားမျိုး လုပ်နေကြပါပြီ။

My mother makes that mistake.

အမေက အဲဒီအမှားလုပ်မိလို့။

And to be honest, sometimes I do.

ရိုးရိုးသားသားပြောရရင် တစ်ခါတလေကျရင် ကျွန်တော်လုပ်တယ်။

Its not so much a speaking mistake. It's a writing mistake.

ပြောရရင်တော့ သိပ်မှားတာ မဟုတ်ဘူး။ စာရေးတာ အမှားပါ ။

It's actually to write the possessive  adjective 'your' instead of

တကယ်တော့ ဒါဟာ 'you'

the contraction 'you're' from 'you are'.

မှ 'you' လို့ ကျုံ့မယ့်အစား 'မင်း' ဆိုတဲ့ အပိုင်နာမဝိသေသနကို ရေးရတာပါ။

This is the most common English mistake

ဒါက အဖြစ်များဆုံး အင်္ဂလိပ်အမှား

But you need to fix it if you want to speak proper English.

ဖြစ်ပေမယ့် မှန်ကန်တဲ့ အင်္ဂလိပ်လို ပြောချင်ရင် ပြင်ဖို့ လိုပါတယ်။

Okay, so let's take a look at a  few example sentences together.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ဥပမာ စာကြောင်းအနည်းငယ်ကို အတူတူကြည့်ရအောင်။

"Your daughter is pretty."

"မင်းသမီးလေး လှလိုက်တာ။"

So 'your daughter'.

ဒါဆို 'မင်းသမီး'

This is the possessive adjective of 'you'.

ဤသည်မှာ 'သင်' ၏ အပိုင် နာမဝိသေသန ဖြစ်သည်။

Whose daughter?

ဘယ်သူ့သမီးလဲ

Yours.

မင်းအတွက်။

Okay?

So the daughter belongs to you.

အဆင်ပြေလား?

ဒီတော့ သမီးက မင်းပိုင်တယ်။

That's a possessive adjective.

အဲဒါ အပိုင်နာမ်။

So the sentence is correct.

ဒီတော့ စကားက မှန်တယ်။

In the second sentence,

ဒုတိယဝါကျမှာ

"You're a pretty daughter."

"မင်းက ချစ်စရာကောင်းတဲ့ သမီးလေး။"

See the difference?

ကွာခြားချက်ကို မြင်ပါသလား။

Now this is not a possessive adjective.

ယခု ဤသည်မှာ အပိုင်နာမ်မဟုတ်ပေ။

This is the verb 'to be'.

ဤသည်မှာ 'to be' ဟူသော ကြိယာဖြစ်သည်။

But it's the contraction, so it's "You are a pretty daughter."

ဒါပေမယ့် အဲဒါက ကျုံ့သွားတာမို့ "မင်းက ချစ်စရာကောင်းတဲ့ သမီးလေး" တဲ့။

and the contraction is "You're a pretty daughter."

ပြီးတော့ ကျုံ့တာက "မင်းက အရမ်းလှတဲ့ သမီးလေး။"

The problem here is that 'you're' - possessive adjectives and

ဤနေရာတွင် ပြဿနာမှာ 'you're' - possessive adjectives နှင့်

'you're' - contraction of the verb 'to be'

'you're' - ကြိယာ 'to be' ၏ ကျုံ့ခြင်းတို့သည်

have the exact same sound in  many English-speaking regions.

အင်္ဂလိပ်စကားပြောဒေသများစွာတွင် တူညီသောအသံဖြစ်သည်။

Okay it's very similar.

အိုကေ အဲဒါ အရမ်းတူတယ်။

So when we speak, it's the same.

အဲဒီတော့ စကားပြောတဲ့အခါမှာလည်း ဒီလိုပါပဲ။

People don't hear the difference.

လူတွေက ခြားနားမှုကို မကြားရဘူး။

So the very important thing  is to write it properly.

ဒါကြောင့် အရေးကြီးဆုံးအချက်က မှန်ကန်စွာရေးဖို့ပါပဲ။

And there are so many spelling mistakes.

ပြီးတော့ စာလုံးပေါင်းအမှားတွေ အများကြီးရှိတယ်။

If we look at the third sentence:

တတိယဝါကျကို ကြည့်မယ်ဆိုရင်

"Your a nice person."

"မင်းဟာ လူကောင်းတစ်ယောက်ပါ။"

What do you think?

သင်ဘယ်လိုထင်ပါလဲ?

Is the sentence right or wrong?

စာကြောင်းက မှန်လား မှားသလား။

Well it's wrong.

အင်း မှားတယ်။

"Your a nice person."

"မင်းက လူကောင်းပဲ။"

"You are a nice person."

"မင်းက လူကောင်းပဲ။"

So it's the verb 'to be'.

ဒီတော့ ကြိယာက 'to be' ပါ။

Okay, so it's not 'your'.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ဒါ 'မင်း' မဟုတ်ဘူး။

This is the possessive adjective

ဤသည်မှာ အပိုင်နာမဝိသေသန

and it should be "you're"- you apostrophe 're'.

ဖြစ်ပြီး ၎င်းသည် "you're"- you apostrophe 're' ဖြစ်သင့်သည်။

Okay?

အဆင်ပြေလား?

I hope you understand the difference between the

အပိုင်နာမဝိသေသန 'မင်း' နှင့် 'to be' ကြိယာ အ ကြား ခြားနားချက်ကို

possessive adjective 'your' and the verb 'to be' contracted so "you're".

"မင်း" လို့ သဘောပေါက်မယ်လို့ မျှော်လင့်ပါတယ်။

Okay so spelling is key here.

ဟုတ်ပြီ စာလုံးပေါင်းက ဒီမှာ အဓိက။

And when you speak English, people don't hear the difference.

အင်္ဂလိပ်လိုပြောတဲ့အခါ လူတွေက ခြားနားမှုကို မကြားရပါဘူး။

so it's fine

ဒါကြောင့် ကောင်းပါတယ်

but it's important to know how to write it and in fact if you look at Facebook

ဒါပေမယ့် ဘယ်လိုရေးရမလဲဆိုတာ သိဖို့က အရေးကြီးပြီး တကယ်တော့ ဖေ့စ်ဘုတ်

pages or Twitter accounts, even from native speakers,

စာမျက်နှာတွေ ဒါမှမဟုတ် Twitter အကောင့်တွေကို မူရင်းဘာသာစကားနဲ့တောင် ကြည့်မယ်ဆိုရင်

you will see this mistake.

ဒီအမှားကို တွေ့ရပါလိမ့်မယ်။

Don't hesitate to correct native speakers. Okay?

မူရင်းဘာသာစကားကို ပြင်ဖို့ မတွန့်ဆုတ်ပါနဲ့။ အဆင်ပြေလား?

Everybody should stop making that huge mistake.

လူတိုင်း ဒီအမှားကြီးကို ရပ်တန့်သင့်တယ်။

I hope you now have a better understanding  and you will not make that mistake again.

And ‘whose’ in one word, ‘whose’.

Now it's very simple but it's very confusing,

အခုက အရမ်းရိုးရှင်းပေမယ့်

because they both sound the same.

နှစ်ခုလုံးက အသံတူတာကြောင့် အရမ်းရှုပ်ထွေးပါတယ်။

So even native speakers make a lot of mistakes. Okay?

ဒါကြောင့် Native Speaker တွေတောင် အမှားတွေ အများကြီး လုပ်တတ်ကြတယ်။ အဆင်ပြေလား?

So listen to me very carefully. It's very simple.

ဒါကြောင့် ငါ့စကားကို သေချာနားထောင်ပါ။ အရမ်းရိုးရှင်းပါတယ်။

‘who’s’ ‘who + apostrophe + s’ is the contraction

'who's' 'who + apostrophe + s' သည် 'to be' ကြိယာ၏

of the verb ‘to be’.

ကျုံ့ခြင်း ဖြစ်သည်

So it's actually ‘who is’.

။ ဒီတော့ တကယ်က 'ဘယ်သူလဲ' တဲ့။

If I say, ‘who's on the phone?’

'ဖုန်းက ဘယ်သူလဲ' လို့ပြောရင်၊

It’s ‘who is on the phone’.

'ဖုန်းက ဘယ်သူလဲ' တဲ့။

‘whose’ in one word ‘whose’

'မည်သူ' ဟူသော စကားလုံးတစ်လုံးတွင် 'အဘယ်သူ'

is the possessive.

သည် အပိုင်ဖြစ်သည်။

It means who does it belong to.

ဆိုလိုတာက ဘယ်သူပိုင်လဲ။

For example,

ဥပမာ

‘Whose bag is this?’

'ဒီအိတ်က ဘယ်သူ့အိတ်လဲ။'

meaning ‘who does this bag belong to?’

'ဒီအိတ်က ဘယ်သူပိုင်လဲ' လို့ အဓိပ္ပာယ်ရပါတယ်။

And you can say, ‘It's my bag.’

ပြီးတော့ 'ဒါ ငါ့အိတ်' လို့ ပြောနိုင်ပါတယ်။

‘It's your bag.’ It's a possessive.

'ဒါ မင်းလွယ်အိတ်ပဲ' အဲဒါက အပိုင်ပဲ။

If you really don't know

တကယ်မသိရင်

just try and replace the ‘s’  or ‘se’ with the verb 'to be'.

ကြိယာ 'to be' နဲ့ 's' ဒါမှမဟုတ် 'se' နဲ့ အစားထိုးကြည့်ပါ။

And see if it works.

အလုပ်ဖြစ်မလား။

If it works, then it's the  contraction of the verb ‘to be’.

အလုပ်ဖြစ်လျှင် ၎င်းသည် 'to be' ကြိယာ၏ ကျုံ့ခြင်းပင်ဖြစ်သည်။

Let's see together with a few examples.

ဥပမာအနည်းငယ်နဲ့ တွဲကြည့်ရအောင်။

First, ‘Who's calling?’

ပထမဆုံး 'ဘယ်သူခေါ်နေတာလဲ'

Which one is it?

ဘယ်ဟာလဲ?

Is it the contraction of the verb ‘to be’

ကြိယာ 'to be' ၏ ကျုံ့နေခြင်းလား

or is it the possessive?

သို့မဟုတ် အပိုင်လား?

Can you say, ‘Who is calling?’ Does that work?

'ဘယ်သူခေါ်နေတာလဲ' လို့ ပြောလို့ရမလား။ အဲဒါ အလုပ်ဖြစ်လား။

Yes, it does.

ဟုတ်ပါတယ်။

So it is the contraction of the verb to be.

ဒီတော့ ကြိယာက to be ကျုံ့သွားတယ်။

‘Who is calling?’

'ဘယ်သူခေါ်နေတာလဲ'

Now a second example,

အခု ဒုတိယဥပမာတစ်ခု၊

well, let's take our very first example.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ငါတို့ရဲ့ ပထမဆုံး ဥပမာကို ယူကြည့်ရအောင်။

‘Whose mother is this?’

'ဒါဘယ်သူ့အမေလဲ'

Which one is it?

ဘယ်ဟာလဲ?

Is it the verb ‘to be’?

'to be' ကြိယာပဲလား။

Or Is it the possessive?

ဒါမှမဟုတ် လက်ဝယ်ရှိသလား။

Can you say, ‘Who is mother is this?’

'ဒီအမေက ဘယ်သူလဲ' လို့ ပြောလို့ရမလား။

No. You can't. It's incorrect.

မရဘူး၊ မလုပ်နိုင်ဘူး။ မမှန်ပါ။

It's the possessive. ‘Whose mother is this?’

အဲဒါက အပိုင်ပဲ။ 'ဒါဘယ်သူ့အမေလဲ'

It's my mother. It's your mother.

အဲဒါ ငါ့အမေ။ မင်းအမေပဲ။

It's his mother.

သူ့အမေ။

Okay?

အဆင်ပြေလား?

Now one final example.

အခုနောက်ဆုံး ဥပမာတစ်ခု။

‘Who's in the house?’

'အိမ်မှာ ဘယ်သူလဲ'

Come on, guys.

လာပါ ယောက်ျားတို့။

Which one is it?

ဘယ်ဟာလဲ?

Is it the verb ‘to be’ or is it the possessive?

ကြိယာ 'to be' လား ဒါမှမဟုတ် အပိုင်လား?

It's obviously the verb ‘to be’.

ကြိယာ 'to be' ဆိုတာ သိသာပါတယ်။

You can say, ‘Who is in the house?’

'အိမ်မှာ ဘယ်သူရှိလဲ' လို့ ပြောနိုင်ပါတယ်။

Okay? I really hope you understand the difference.

အဆင်ပြေလား? ခြားနားချက်ကို မင်းနားလည်မယ်လို့ ငါတကယ်မျှော်လင့်ပါတယ်။

It's a very common mistake.

ဒါဟာ အလွန်အဖြစ်များတဲ့ အမှားတစ်ခုပါ။

But it's not difficult to fix.

ဒါပေမယ့် ပြင်ဖို့ မခက်ပါဘူး။

I think it's time for me to let you know the difference between ‘hard’ and ‘hardly’.

'ခက်' နဲ့ 'ခက်' တို့ရဲ့ ကွာခြားချက်ကို မင်းကို ပြောပြဖို့ အချိန်ရောက်ပြီလို့ ငါထင်ပါတယ်။

Let's get to it.

စလိုက်ကြရအောင်။

ကို ငါပြောပြမယ် ။ ကျွန်ုပ်၏ကျောင်းသားအများအပြားသည် ဤအမှားကြီးကို

they use hardly as an adverb  and this is incorrect, ok?

ကြိယာဝိသေသနအဖြစ် ခဲယဉ်းစွာသုံးနေကြသောကြောင့်၊ ဤအရာသည် မှားနေပါသည်၊ ဟုတ်ပါသလား။

So it's time to fix that mistake.

ဒီတော့ ဒီအမှားကို ပြင်ဖို့ အချိန်တန်ပြီ။

Let's look at some example sentences together.

ဥပမာဝါကျအချို့ကို အတူတူကြည့်ကြပါစို့။ ကောင်းပြီ၊

Ok, so if I say,

'ငါက အမြန်ပြေးသူ'

‘I'm a quick runner.’ or ‘I run quickly.’

လို့ပြောရင် ကောင်းပြီ ။ ဒါမှမဟုတ် 'ငါ မြန်မြန်ပြေးတယ်။'

The meaning is the exact same.

အဓိပ္ပါယ်ကတော့ အတူတူပါပဲ။

There's no difference.

ထူးခြားမှု မရှိပါဘူး။

But in the first sentence, I use an adjective.

ဒါပေမယ့် ပထမဝါကျမှာ နာမဝိသေသနကို သုံးပါတယ်။

‘I'm a quick runner.’

'ကျွန်တော်က အမြန်အပြေးသမားပါ။'

And it describes a noun.

ပြီးတော့ နာမ်တစ်ခုကို ဖော်ပြတယ်။

Because as you know, an  adjective describes a noun.

အဘယ်ကြောင့်ဆိုသော် နာမဝိသေသနသည် နာမ်ကို ဖော်ပြသောကြောင့် ဖြစ်သည်။

In the second sentence,

ဒုတိယဝါကျမှာ

‘I run quickly.'

'ငါ မြန်မြန်ပြေးတယ်။'

I go with an adverb.

ကြိယာဝိသေသန တစ်ခုနဲ့ သွားနေတယ်။

That describes a verb.

၎င်းသည် ကြိယာတစ်ခုကို ဖော်ပြသည်။

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

Most of the time,

အများစုမှာ

you can go from an adjective to an adverb

'ly' ကို ထည့်ခြင်းဖြင့်

by adding ‘ly’.

နာမဝိသေသနမှ ကြိယာဝိသေသနသို့ သွားနိုင်သည် ။

So from 'quick',

we have the adverb 'quickly'.

ကြိယာဝိသေသန 'အမြန်' ရှိသည်။

Same thing goes for the second sentence,

ဒုတိယဝါကျ၊ အင်း၊ တတိယစာကြောင်း

Well, the third actually.

မှာလည်း အတူတူပါပဲ

‘She's a beautiful dancer.'

။ 'သူမဟာ လှပတဲ့ အကသမားပါ။'

'She dances beautifully.’

'သူမက လှတယ်'

The meaning is the same,

အဓိပ္ပါယ်က တူ

but in the first sentence, we use an adjective.

ပေမယ့် ပထမဝါကျမှာ နာမဝိသေသနကို သုံးပါတယ်။

'She's a beautiful dancer,' it describes a noun.

'သူမသည် လှပသော အကသမားဖြစ်သည်' ဟူသော နာမ်ကို ဖော်ပြသည်။

‘She dances beautifully.’

'သူမက လှတယ်'

That's an adverb

အဲဒါက ကြိယာဝိသေသန

‘beautifully’

'လှတယ်' လို့

We added ‘ly’.

'ly' ထည့်ပေးတယ်။

So when you say,

ဒါကြောင့် ပြောတဲ့အခါ၊

‘You're a hard worker.’

'မင်းက အလုပ်ကြိုးစားတယ်။'

You might think that you can say,

'မင်း ခက်ခက်ခဲခဲ အလုပ်လုပ်တယ်'

‘You work hardly.’

လို့ ပြောလို့ရတယ် ထင်ပါတယ် ။

You add ‘ly’,

သင်သည် 'ly' ကိုထည့်ပါ၊

go from an adjective to an adverb. Right?

နာမဝိသေသနမှ ကြိယာဝိသေသနတစ်ခုသို့ သွားပါ။ ဟုတ်တယ်ဟုတ်?

Well, I'm sorry guys, but this doesn't work.

တောင်းပန်ပါတယ် ယောက်ျားလေးတွေ၊ ဒါပေမယ့် ဒါက အလုပ်မဖြစ်ပါဘူး။

It's incorrect, because ‘hard’ is an exception.

'ခက်' သည် ခြွင်းချက်ဖြစ်သောကြောင့် မမှန်ပါ။

‘Hard’ is an adjective and an adverb.

'ခက်' သည် နာမဝိသေသနနှင့် ကြိယာဝိသေသနဖြစ်သည်။

It's the same word.

တူညီသောစကားဖြစ်ပါသည်။

So you will say,

ဒါ​ကြောင့်​သင်​တို့​က

‘You work hard.’

``သင်​ဟာ ကြိုး​စား​ပါ​တယ်။

Okay? ‘You're a hard worker.’

အဆင်ပြေလား? 'မင်းက အလုပ်ကြိုးစားတယ်။'

‘You work hard.’

'မင်း အလုပ်ကြိုးစားတယ်။'

‘Hard is an adverb as well.’

' Hard သည် ကြိယာဝိသေသနလည်းဖြစ်သည်။

Now, the word ‘hardly’ does exist in the English language.

ယခုအခါ အင်္ဂလိပ်ဘာသာစကားတွင် 'ခဲယဉ်း' ဟူသော စကားလုံး ပေါ်လာသည်။

The problem is that the meaning  is completely different.

ပြဿနာက အဓိပ္ပါယ်က လုံးဝမတူဘူး။

‘hardly’ means almost not.

'hardly' ဆိုသည်မှာ နီးပါးမဟုတ်ပေ။ ဒါကြောင့် 'မင်း အလုပ်ခဲယဉ်းတယ်'

So actually, when you say,

လို့ ပြောတဲ့အခါ တကယ်တော့

‘You hardly work.’ Or ‘You work hardly.’

ဒါမှမဟုတ် 'မင်း ခက်ခက်ခဲခဲ အလုပ်လုပ်တယ်။'

It means, you practically don't work.

ဆိုလိုသည်မှာ သင် လက်တွေ့တွင် အလုပ်မလုပ်ဟု ဆိုလိုသည်။

You really don't work.

မင်းတကယ်အလုပ်မလုပ်ဘူး။

Okay?

အဆင်ပြေလား? ဒါကြောင့်

So you'll understand if you tell me,

'ကျွန်တော် အလုပ်အရမ်းကြိုးစားတယ်'

‘I work hardly.’

လို့ ပြောရင် နားလည်ပါလိမ့်မယ်

I'm gonna get really angry.

။ ငါတကယ်စိတ်ဆိုးလိမ့်မယ်။

Okay?

So this is a huge mistake that you need to fix.

အဆင်ပြေလား?

ဒါကြောင့် ဒီအမှားကြီးကို ပြင်ဖို့လိုတယ်။

The adverb of the adjective ‘hard’ is ‘hard’.

ကြိယာဝိသေသန 'ခက်' သည် 'ခက်' သည်။

And ‘hardly’ means almost not.

'ခက်' ဆိုသည်မှာ နီးပါးမဟုတ်ပေ။

So for example, ‘I work hardly.’ means

ဥပမာ၊ 'ကျွန်တော် အလုပ်အရမ်းကြိုးစားတယ်။' ဆိုလိုတာက

‘I almost don't work.’

'ငါ အလုပ်မဖြစ်လုနီးပါးပါ။'

And ‘I work hard.’

ပြီးတော့ 'အလုပ်ကြိုးစားတယ်။'

means ‘I work a lot.’

ဆိုလိုတာက 'ကျွန်တော် အလုပ်အများကြီးလုပ်တယ်။

I hope you understands the difference  between ‘hardly’ and ‘hard’.

'ခက်' နှင့် 'ခက်' အကြား ခြားနားချက်ကို မင်းနားလည်မယ်လို့ မျှော်လင့်ပါတယ်။

It is a common mistake, but you need to fix it now

ပြီးတော့ ဒီဗီဒီယိုထဲမှာ၊ အင်္ဂလိပ်လို superlatives နဲ့ comparative တွေကို သုံးတဲ့အခါ

keep making when using superlatives  and comparatives in English.

ကျွန်တော့်ရဲ့ ကျောင်းသားတွေ ဆက်လုပ်နေမိတဲ့ ကြီးမားတဲ့အမှားတွေအကြောင်း ပြောပြပါမယ်

And it drives me crazy!

။ ပြီးတော့ ငါ့ကို ရူးသွပ်စေတယ်။

So I want you to fix them if you keep making them.

ဒါကြောင့် ဆက်ပြီးလုပ်ရင် ပြင်ပေးစေချင်တယ်။

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

So let's and take a few examples.

ဒီတော့ ဥပမာအနည်းငယ်ယူကြည့်ရအောင်။

For example, “I am more taller than my sister.”

ဥပမာ၊ "ကျွန်မက အစ်မထက် ပိုမြင့်တယ်။"

This is absolutely incorrect.

ဒါက လုံးဝ မမှန်ပါဘူး။

I hope you know this.

ဒါကို မင်းသိမယ်လို့ မျှော်လင့်ပါတယ်။

The comparative form of ‘tall’ is ‘taller’.

'မြင့်' ၏ နှိုင်းယှဥ်ပုံမှာ 'မြင့်' ဖြစ်သည်။

You don't need more.

သင်ပိုမလိုအပ်ပါ။

Okay. ‘more’ is a double comparison.

ဟုတ်ပြီ 'ပို' သည် နှစ်ထပ်နှိုင်းယှဉ်မှုဖြစ်သည်။

It's grammatically incorrect.

သဒ္ဒါနည်းအရ မမှန်ပါ။

So you just say, “I am taller than my sister.”

ဒီတော့ မင်းပြောသလို "ငါက ငါ့ညီမထက် အရပ်မြင့်တယ်"

Second example.

ဒုတိယဥပမာ။

“His house is the beautifulest in town.”

"သူ့အိမ်က မြို့ထဲမှာ အလှဆုံးပဲ"

Wrong!

မှားတယ်!

You have to say, “This house is the most beautiful in town.”

“ဒီအိမ်က မြို့ထဲမှာ အလှဆုံး” လို့ ပြောရမယ်။

As you know, when it's a long word, the  superlative is ‘most’ plus the adjective.

သင်သိသည့်အတိုင်း၊ စကားလုံးရှည်လျားသည့်အခါ၊ နိယာမသည် 'အများဆုံး' နှင့် နာမဝိသေသနဖြစ်သည်။

And then we have, “His older  son is badder at math than her.”

ပြီးတော့ “သူ့သားက သူ့ထက် သင်္ချာမှာ ပိုဆိုးတယ်” သင်သိသည့်အတိုင်း

This is also incorrect because as you know,

'မကောင်း' သည် ခြွင်းချက်ဖြစ်သော

‘bad’, is an exception.

ကြောင့် ဤအချက်မှာလည်း မမှန်ပါ

The comparative form of ‘bad’ is ‘worse’.

။ နှိုင်းယှဥ်မှု 'မကောင်း' သည် 'ယုတ်မာ' သည်။

So you should say, “His older son is worse at math than her.”

ဒါကြောင့် “သူ့သားကြီးဟာ သူ့ထက် သင်္ချာမှာ ပိုဆိုးတယ်” လို့ ပြောသင့်တယ်။

“I'm tireder than yesterday.”

"မနေ့ကထက် ပိုပင်ပန်းတယ်"

Again this is incorrect.

ဒါက မှားပြန်တယ်။

Because the comparison for ‘tired’ is “I'm more tired than yesterday.”

ဘာကြောင့်လဲ ဆိုတော့ 'ပင်ပန်းတယ်' နဲ့ နှိုင်းယှဥ်ထားတာက "မနေ့ကထက် ငါ ပိုပင်ပန်းတယ်။"

With two syllable adjectives, it's a little bit tricky.

နာမဝိသေသန နှစ်ခုဖြင့်၊ ၎င်းသည် အနည်းငယ် ဆန်းကျယ်သည်။

Most of the time when they end in ‘y’, you just add ‘er’.

အများစုက 'y' နဲ့အဆုံးသတ်ရင် 'er' ကိုထည့်လိုက်ရုံပါပဲ။

When they don't, you use ‘more’.

သူတို့မရှိရင် 'ပို' ကိုသုံးတယ်။

So in this case, we say, “I'm more tired than yesterday.”

ဒီတော့ ဒီကိစ္စမှာ "ငါ မနေ့ကထက် ပိုပင်ပန်းတယ်" လို့ပြောတာ။

And finally, “This is my most happiest day.”

နောက်ဆုံးအနေနဲ့ “ဒီနေ့ဟာ ကျွန်တော့်ရဲ့ အပျော်ရွှင်ဆုံးနေ့ပါ။”

Again, double superlative.

တဖန်၊ နှစ်ဆ superlative။

This is incorrect.

ဤသည်မှာ မမှန်ပါ။

You can just say, “This is my happiest day.”

"ဒီနေ့ဟာ ငါ့ရဲ့ အပျော်ဆုံးနေ့ပဲ" လို့ ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

very common writing mistake.

တစ်ခုအကြောင်း ပြောပြမယ် ။

Now it's not so much a speaking mistake,

အခုက စကားပြောမှားတာမဟုတ်

but it's a writing - a spelling mistake

ပေမယ့် စာရေးတာ ၊

that a lot of students make  and I want you to fix it.

ကျောင်းသားတော်တော်များများ လုပ်မိတဲ့ စာလုံးပေါင်းအမှားကို ပြင်ပေးစေချင်တယ်။

It's the difference between 'than' t-h-a-n and 'then' t-h-e-n.

အဲဒါက 'ထက်' နဲ့ 'ပီး' တို့ရဲ့ ကွာခြားချက်ပါ။

Now as you can hear the sound  is practically the same,

အသံက လက်တွေ့အတိုင်းပဲ၊

but the spelling is different.

ဒါပေမယ့် စာလုံးပေါင်းက မတူဘူး။

so you need to know the difference.

ဒါကြောင့် ခြားနားချက်ကို သိဖို့လိုတယ်။

Let's take a look at two example sentences.

ဥပမာဝါကျနှစ်ခုကို လေ့လာကြည့်ရအောင်။

First we have, "John is taller than Sarah."

ပထမဦးစွာ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့တွင် "ယောဟန်သည် စာရာထက် အရပ်ရှည်သည်"

So in this case, we have 'than' t-h-a-n.

အဲဒီတော့ ဒီကိစ္စမှာ ကျွန်တော်တို့မှာ 'ထက်' ရှိတယ်။

Which is a word that we use for comparisons okay.

နှိုင်းယှဥ်ခြင်းအတွက် သုံးတဲ့စကားလုံးက အမှန်ပါ။

When we want to compare two things.

နှစ်ခုကို ယှဉ်ကြည့်ချင်တဲ့အခါ။

John is taller than Sarah.

John က Sarah ထက် အရပ်မြင့်တယ်။

I am more beautiful than you.

ငါက မင်းထက် ပိုလှတယ်။

Okay?

အဆင်ပြေလား?

In this case, you will use t-h-a-n.

ဤကိစ္စတွင်၊ ထက်ကိုသုံးလိမ့်မည်။

Now if we look at the second sentence.

အခု ဒုတိယဝါကျကို ကြည့်မယ်ဆိုရင်။

I went to school, then I went home.

ကျောင်းသွားပြီးတော့ အိမ်ပြန်ခဲ့တယ်။

Now in this case, 'then' is spelled t-h-e-n

ယခု ဤကိစ္စတွင် 'ထို့နောက်' ဟူသော စာလုံးပေါင်းသည်

and has a very different meaning.

အလွန်ကွဲပြားသော အဓိပ္ပါယ်ရှိသည်။

We use 'then' t-h-e-n as a word to mark a sequence of actions.

ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် 'ထို့နောက်' ဟူသော စကားလုံးအဖြစ် လုပ်ဆောင်ချက်များ၏ အစီအစဥ်ကို အမှတ်အသားပြုသည်။

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

So it's a time word that we use in English.

ဒါကြောင့် အင်္ဂလိပ်လိုသုံးတဲ့ အချိန် စကားလုံးပါ။

"I went to school...

"ကျောင်းသွားတယ်...

First action.

ပထမဆုံး လှုပ်ရှားမှု

and then I went home."

လုပ်ပြီး အိမ်ပြန်ခဲ့တယ်"

Second action.

ဒုတိယလုပ်ဆောင်ချက်။

Okay?

So two different meanings.

အဆင်ပြေလား?

ဒီတော့ အဓိပ္ပါယ်နှစ်ခု မတူဘူး။

Different spellings.

စာလုံးပေါင်းအမျိုးမျိုး။

And it's a very common writing mistake.

နောက်ပြီးတော့ စာရေးတာ မှားပါတယ်။

My students keep making this mistake and it drives me crazy.

ငါ့တပည့်တွေက ဒီအမှားကို ဆက်လုပ်နေပြီး ငါ့ကို ရူးသွပ်စေတယ်။

Okay?

အဆင်ပြေလား?

So I hope that you now know the  difference between the two words.

ဒါကြောင့် စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးရဲ့ ခြားနားချက်ကို အခုမှ သိမယ်လို့ မျှော်လင့်ပါတယ်။

Please be good students - avoid that horrible English mistake,

ကျေးဇူးပြု၍ ကျောင်းသားကောင်းများဖြစ်ကြပါစေ - ထိုကြောက်စရာကောင်းသော အင်္ဂလိပ်စာအမှားကို ရှောင်ကြဉ်ပါ၊

ပြီးတော့ ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ 'ရွေးချယ်' နဲ့ 'ရှုံး' ဆိုတဲ့

'choose' and 'lose'.

ကြိယာနှစ်ခုကို အာရုံစိုက်ပါမယ် ။

Now let's have a look and a few sentences.

ကဲ စာကြောင်းအနည်းငယ်နဲ့ တစ်ချက်ကြည့်လိုက်ရအောင်။

First, I made my choice.

ပထမဦးစွာ ကျွန်ုပ်သည် ကျွန်ုပ်၏ရွေးချယ်မှုကို ပြုလုပ်ခဲ့သည်။

I choose spaghetti.

ငါ spaghetti ရွေးတယ်။

Now the verb 'choose' as you know,

ယခုကြိယာ 'ရွေးချယ်' သည် သင်သိသည့်အတိုင်း

.... and means making a choice.

.... နှင့် ရွေးချယ်မှုပြုလုပ်ခြင်းဟု အဓိပ္ပါယ်ရသည်။

And the spelling is with double-o. Okay?

ပြီးတော့ စာလုံးပေါင်းက o double-o နဲ့ ပါတယ်။ အဆင်ပြေလား?

There are two O's in the verb  'choose' - present tense.

ကြိယာ 'ရွေးချယ်' - present tense တွင် O နှစ်ခုရှိသည်။

'I chose pasta, yesterday.'

'မနေ့က ခေါက်ဆွဲရွေးလိုက်တာ။'

Now the difference is now it's past tense.

အခုကွာခြားချက်ကတော့ အတိတ်ကာလပါပဲ။

And the verb in its past form only has  one 'o' and it's pronounced 'chose'.

ကြိယာသည် ၎င်း၏အတိတ်ပုံစံတွင် 'o' တစ်ခုသာရှိပြီး ၎င်းကို 'ရွေးချယ်' ဟု အသံထွက်သည်။

Okay, so 'choose' - present tense.

ဟုတ်ပြီ, 'ရှေးခယျြ' - ပစ္စုပ္ပန်ကာလ။

'chose' - past tense.

'ရွေးချယ်' - past tense ။

But then if we take the second sentence and we say,

ဒါပေမယ့် ဒုတိယဝါကျကို ယူပြီးပြောရင်

Well, no guys.

အင်း ယောက်ျားတွေ မဟုတ်ဘူး။

I'm sorry English pronunciation is really hard,

အင်္ဂလိပ်အသံထွက်က အရမ်းခက်ခဲတာ တောင်းပန်ပါတယ်

but the sound is the same as 'choose '.

ဒါပေမယ့် အသံက 'ရွေးချယ်' နဲ့ အတူတူပါပဲ။

Okay, 'I try not to lose anything when I travel'.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ 'ငါ ခရီးသွားတဲ့အခါ ဘာမှမဆုံးရှုံးဖို့ ကြိုးစားတယ်'။

So there's only one 'o' but it's pronounced lose.

ဒီတော့ 'o' တစ်ခုပဲ ရှိတယ် ဒါပေမယ့် ရှုံးတယ်လို့ အသံထွက်တယ်။

'But I lost my wallet when I went to Egypt'.

'ဒါပေမယ့် အီဂျစ်ကို သွားတုန်းက ပိုက်ဆံအိတ် ပျောက်သွားတယ်'

This is the past form of 'lose' - 'lost'.

ဤကား 'ဈာန်' - 'ပျောက်' ၏ ။

Okay so try and remember -

ဟုတ်ပြီ မှတ်ထားစမ်းပါ -

'choose' 'chose'

'ရွေးချယ်' 'ရွေးချယ်'

So two 'O's - one 'O'.

ဒါဆို 'အို' နှစ်ခု - တစ်ခု 'အို'။

And 'lose' - 'lost'.

'ဈာန်' - 'ပျောက်'။

With only one 'O'.

'O' တစ်လုံးတည်းနဲ့။

Okay I hope this is clear.

ကောင်းပြီ ဒါကို ရှင်းမယ်လို့ မျှော်လင့်ပါတယ်။

Let's now go back to our spelling test.

ယခု ကျွန်ုပ်တို့၏ စာလုံးပေါင်းစာမေးပွဲကို ပြန်သွားကြပါစို့။

ကောင်းပြီ ဒီတစ်ခါ မင်းပိုကောင်းအောင် လုပ်မယ်ဆိုတာ ငါသိတယ်။

So my first verb is '?'.

ဒါကြောင့် ကျွန်တော့်ရဲ့ ပထမဆုံးကြိယာက '?' ပါ။

What's the correct spelling?

စာလုံးပေါင်းအမှန်ကဘာလဲ။

Number one? Number two? Or number three?

နံပါတ်တစ်? နံပါတ်နှစ်? ဒါမှမဟုတ် နံပါတ်သုံး?

It's number one of course .

ဒါ နံပါတ်တစ် ဟုတ်ပါတယ်။

And the second verb is '?'.

ဒုတိယကြိယာသည် '?' ဖြစ်သည်။

What's the correct spelling?

စာလုံးပေါင်းအမှန်ကဘာလဲ။

Yes good it's number three.

ဟုတ်တယ် နံပါတ်သုံး ကောင်းတယ်

And in this video, I'm gonna talk to you about

ပြီးတော့ ဒီဗီဒီယိုထဲမှာ၊

a very common speaking and spelling mistake in English.

အင်္ဂလိပ်လို အလွန်အသုံးများတဲ့ စကားနဲ့ စာလုံးပေါင်းအမှား

And we're going to focus on the words, ‘work’ and ‘homework’.

အကြောင်း ပြောပြမယ် ။ ပြီးတော့ 'အလုပ်' နဲ့ 'အိမ်စာ' ဆိုတဲ့ စကားလုံးတွေကို အာရုံစိုက်သွားမယ်။

So the first thing you need to know, When the word ‘work’ is a verb, it can

ဒါကြောင့် ပထမဆုံး သိထားရမှာက 'အလုပ်' ဆိုတဲ့ စကားလုံးဟာ ကြိယာတစ်ခုဖြစ်ပြီး

take an ‘s’, if it's the third-person singular.

တတိယလူက singular ဖြစ်ရင် 's' ကို ယူနိုင်ပါတယ်။

So you will say, ‘I work hard.’ ‘He works hard.’

'ငါကြိုးစားတယ်' လို့ပြောလိမ့်မယ်။ 'အလုပ်ကြိုးစားတယ်။'

Okay? Very common, very normal verb, okay?

အဆင်ပြေလား? အလွန်ဘုံ၊ အလွန်သာမန်ကြိယာ ဟုတ်ပါသလား?

So it takes an ‘S’ with the third-person singular.

ထို့ကြောင့် တတိယလူ အနည်းကိန်းဖြင့် 'S' ကို ယူသည်။

That's when ‘work’ is a verb.

အဲဒါ 'အလုပ်' က ကြိယာပဲ။

Now when you say, ‘I have a lot of work.’

'အလုပ်များတယ်' လို့ ပြောတဲ့အခါ

‘work’, in this case, is not a verb. It's a noun.

ဤကိစ္စတွင် 'အလုပ်' သည် ကြိယာမဟုတ်ပါ။ နာမ်တစ်ခုဖြစ်သည်။

And you have to know.

သငျသညျသိရန်ရှိသည်။

When work is a noun, it does not take an ‘s’, because there's no plural.

အလုပ်သည် နာမ်တစ်ခုဖြစ်ပြီး အများကိန်းမရှိသောကြောင့် 's' မယူပါ။

You cannot say, ‘I have a lot of works.’

'ငါ့မှာ အလုပ်တွေ အများကြီးရှိတယ်' လို့ပြောလို့ မရဘူး။

It’s always singular, because  it's an uncountable noun.

၎င်းသည် အမြဲတမ်း အနည်းကိန်းဖြစ်ပြီး၊ ၎င်းသည် ရေမတွက်နိုင်သော နာမ်ဖြစ်သောကြောင့် ဖြစ်သည်။

Okay? So, ‘I have a lot of work’

အဆင်ပြေလား? ဒီတော့ 'အလုပ်များတယ်'

Or you could say, ‘I don't have much work.’, Okay? Because it's uncountable.

ဒါမှမဟုတ် 'အလုပ်သိပ်မရှိဘူး' လို့ ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။ မရေမတွက်နိုင်အောင် ဖြစ်နေလို့ပါ။

Now it can take a plural form, but only if it means not mental exertion like

အခုက အများကိန်းပုံစံကို ယူနိုင်ပေမယ့်

‘I have a lot of work.’

'အလုပ်များတယ်' လိုမျိုး စိတ်အားထက်သန်မှု မရှိဘူးလို့ မဆိုလိုပါဘူး။

But if it means a series of art  pieces or literature pieces.

ဒါပေမယ့် အဓိပ္ပါယ်ကတော့ အနုပညာအပိုင်းအစတွေ ဒါမှမဟုတ် စာပေအပိုင်းအစတွေပါ။

And that's the only meaning of the word  'work' that allows you to use the plural form.

၎င်းသည် 'အလုပ်' ဟူသော စကားလုံး၏ တစ်ခုတည်းသော အဓိပ္ပါယ်မှာ အများကိန်းပုံစံကို အသုံးပြုနိုင်သည်။

So for example, you can  say, ‘The works of Picasso.’

ဥပမာအားဖြင့်၊ 'ပီကာဆို၏လက်ရာများ' ဟု ဆိုနိုင်သည်။

‘The works of Picasso’ meaning  ‘The paintings of Picasso’, okay?

'ပီကာဆို၏လက်ရာများ' ဆိုသည်မှာ 'ပီကာဆို၏ ပန်းချီကားများ' ဟု အဓိပ္ပါယ်ရသည်၊ ဟုတ်ပါသလား။

So art pieces, that's not the  same as ‘I have a lot of work.’

ဒါကြောင့် 'ကျွန်မမှာ အလုပ်တွေ အများကြီး' နဲ့ မတူပါဘူး။

Okay?

အဆင်ပြေလား?

Now, when you use the compound noun, ‘homework’,

ယခု၊ သင်ပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်၊ 'အိမ်စာ' ကိုသုံးသောအခါ၊

it's exactly the same as  'work' as an uncountable noun.

၎င်းသည် ရေမတွက်နိုင်သောနာမ်အဖြစ် 'အလုပ်' နှင့် အတိအကျတူသည်။

It's uncountable, okay?

မရေမတွက်နိုင်သော ၊ ဟုတ်ပါသလား။

So when you say, ‘I have a lot of homeworks.’, it's wrong.

ဒါကြောင့် 'ငါ့မှာ အိမ်စာတွေ အများကြီးရှိတယ်' လို့ ပြောတဲ့အခါ မှားပါတယ်။

You cannot use the plural form. It’s uncountable. You have to say, ‘I have a lot of homework.’

အများကိန်းပုံစံကို သင်သုံး၍မရပါ။ မရေမတွက်နိုင်အောင်ပါပဲ။ 'ငါ့မှာ အိမ်စာတွေ အများကြီးရှိတယ်' လို့ပြောရမယ်။

If you really want to emphasize the fact that you have many things to do at home,

အိမ်မှာလုပ်စရာတွေ အများကြီးရှိတယ်ဆိုတဲ့အချက်ကို တကယ်အလေးပေးချင်တယ်ဆိုရင်တော့

you can use another word and say, ‘assignment’.

တခြားစကားလုံးကိုသုံးပြီး 'တာဝန်' လို့ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။

You can say, 'I have many assignments.’

'ငါ့မှာ တာဝန်တွေ အများကြီးရှိတယ်' လို့ ပြောနိုင်ပါတယ်။

It's the same as 'homework', but it is countable. Okay?

၎င်းသည် 'အိမ်စာ' နှင့်အတူတူပင်ဖြစ်သည်၊ သို့သော်၎င်းသည်ရေတွက်နိုင်သည်။ အဆင်ပြေလား?

So in a nutshell, ‘work’ as a verb, just does take an ‘s’.

ဒါကြောင့် အတိုချုပ်ပြောရရင် ကြိယာအနေနဲ့ 'အလုပ်' က 's' ကို ယူပါတယ်။

If it's the third-person singular.

တတိယလူက အနည်းကိန်းဆိုရင်။

‘work’ as a noun is uncountable, unless it  means pieces of art or pieces of literature.

'အလုပ်' သည် အနုပညာအပိုင်းအစ သို့မဟုတ် စာပေအပိုင်းအစများကို မဆိုလိုဘဲ နာမ်အဖြစ် ရေတွက်၍မရနိုင်ပါ။

And the word ‘homework’ is also uncountable. No plural form.

'အိမ်စာ' ဟူသော စကားလုံးသည်လည်း ရေတွက်၍မရနိုင်ပေ။ အများကိန်းပုံစံမရှိပါ။
