And now look at that sentence.

وانظر الآن إلى تلك الجملة.

One of them is wrong.

واحد منهم هو الخطأ.

Hello guys my name is Fanny and in this video I'm gonna talk to you about a major

مرحبًا يا شباب، اسمي فاني وفي هذا الفيديو سأتحدث معكم عن

spelling mistake in English.

خطأ إملائي كبير في اللغة الإنجليزية.

Among students, but also, among native speakers.

بين الطلاب، ولكن أيضًا بين المتحدثين الأصليين.

It's a difference between 'it's' meaning 'it is'.

وهو فرق بين "إنه" بمعنى "هو".

And 'its' being the possessive adjective.

و"إنها" هي صفة الملكية.

Okay let's and take a few sentences  and I'm sure you'll get it.

حسنًا، لنأخذ بعض الجمل وأنا متأكد من أنك ستفهمها.

So we have 'It's a sunny day'.

لذلك لدينا "إنه يوم مشمس".

In this case 'it's' is the verb 'to be'.

في هذه الحالة، "it's" هو الفعل "to be".

So it means 'It is a sunny day'.

لذلك يعني "إنه يوم مشمس".

If we take the second sentence:

فإذا أخذنا الجملة الثانية:

'The dog ate its food'.

"أكل الكلب طعامه".

This is not the verb 'to be'.

هذا ليس الفعل "ليكون".

It's the possessive adjectives  for an object or an animal.

إنها صفات الملكية لكائن أو حيوان.

So the food belongs to the dog. It is its food.

إذن الطعام ملك للكلب. إنه طعامه.

Okay so these are two different cases

حسنًا، هاتان حالتان مختلفتان

but sometimes when we write, we confuse the two,

ولكن في بعض الأحيان عندما نكتب، فإننا نخلط بين الاثنين،

and we will write the dog ate it's food with apostrophe s.

وسنكتب أن الكلب أكل طعامه بفاصلة عليا.

you know getting confused  between its possessive adjectives

أنت تعلم أنك تشعر بالارتباك بين صفات الملكية

and it's being the contraction  of the verb 'to be'.

وبين كونها تقلص الفعل "ليكون".

This is a very common mistake.

وهذا خطأ شائع جداً.

if we take for example the sentence:

إذا أخذنا على سبيل المثال الجملة:

'Its my pen'.

"إنه قلمي".

Now look at the sentence.

انظر الآن إلى الجملة.

What do you think?

ماذا تعتقد؟

Is this right? Or is this the wrong spelling?

هل هذا صحيح؟ أم أن هذا هو التهجئة الخاطئة؟

Well it's wrong.

حسنًا، هذا خطأ.

'It's my pen' is the verb 'to be'.

"إنه قلمي" هو الفعل "ليكون".

Now the best tip that I can give you

الآن أفضل نصيحة يمكنني أن أقدمها لك

if you get confused, try and say it with the full form.

إذا شعرت بالارتباك، حاول أن تقولها بالصيغة الكاملة.

Try and say 'It is'.

حاول أن تقول "إنه كذلك".

If it makes sense, then it's the contraction of the verb 'to be'

إذا كان منطقيا، فهو تقلص الفعل "ليكون"

and it should be apostrophe 's'.

ويجب أن يكون الفاصلة العليا.

If it doesn't make sense, then it's probably the possessive adjective.

إذا لم يكن الأمر منطقيًا، فمن المحتمل أن تكون صفة الملكية.

So for example, I can say, 'It is a sunny day'.

لذلك، على سبيل المثال، أستطيع أن أقول، "إنه يوم مشمس".

That makes sense.

منطقي.

Can I say the dog ate it is food?

هل أستطيع أن أقول أن الكلب أكله وهو طعام؟

No, I can't. that doesn't make any sense.

Okay if I say, 'It's my pen',

What do you think? Can I say 'It is my pen'?

I can.

So it's actually the  contraction of the verb 'to be'.

So it should be 'it' + apostrophe 's' + my pen.

لذلك يجب أن يكون "it" + الفاصلة العليا + قلمي.

And just so you know one last thing.

وحتى تعرف شيئًا أخيرًا.

Be careful because sometimes in some cases

كن حذرًا لأنه في بعض الحالات

'it's' can also be the contraction of  the verb 'to have' and not 'to be'.

قد تكون كلمة "it's" هي اختصار للفعل "to has" وليس "to be".

If we take those two sentences:

إذا أخذنا هاتين الجملتين:

It's been great to meet you.

لقد كان من الرائع مقابلتك.

It means - It has been great to meet you.

وهذا يعني - لقد كان من الرائع مقابلتك.

'It's got four legs' means it has got four legs.

وقوله: "له أربع أرجل" يعني أن له أربع أرجل.

Okay so the verb in those cases is 'to have' so be careful.

حسنًا، الفعل في تلك الحالات هو "أن يكون" لذا كن حذرًا.

Okay guys I hope you now understand the difference

between the contraction of the verb 'to be' and the possessive adjective 'its'.

The word, ‘there’.

it has three different forms, and they’re quite confusing for students.

لها ثلاثة أشكال مختلفة، وهي مربكة جدًا للطلاب.

Now, we’re going to talk about spelling mistakes and pronunciation mistakes.

الآن، سنتحدث عن الأخطاء الإملائية وأخطاء النطق.

Ok, just so you know.

حسنا، فقط لعلمك.

Now the first sentence, There is a house.

الآن الجملة الأولى، هناك منزل.

It is the very basic for ‘there is’ in English to show something.

إنها الكلمة الأساسية جدًا لكلمة "هناك" في اللغة الإنجليزية لإظهار شيء ما.

If we take the second sentence, It’s their house.

إذا أخذنا الجملة الثانية، فهو منزلهم.

It’s a different form of ‘their’.

إنه شكل مختلف من "هم".

In this case, as you probably know, it’s the possessive.

في هذه الحالة، كما تعلم على الأرجح، إنها ملكية.

Ok?

The house belongs to them.

It’s their house.

And in the third sentence, They’re in the house.

It’s obviously the contraction of the verb, ‘to be’, so

ومن الواضح أنه تقلص الفعل، "ليكون"، لذلك

They are in the house.

هم في المنزل.

Ok, so three different forms.

حسنًا، ثلاثة أشكال مختلفة.

Now, listen very carefully.

الآن، استمع بعناية شديدة.

I’m going to pronounce the three forms.

سأقوم بنطق الأشكال الثلاثة.

There Their 

هناك هم

They're

الآن

Now, can you hear a difference?

، هل يمكنك سماع الفرق؟

I can’t.

لا أستطبع.

There is no difference, guys.

لا يوجد فرق يا شباب.

The pronunciation is exactly the same.

النطق هو نفسه تماما.

And because the pronunciation is the same, many students gets confused when they write.

ولأن النطق واحد، فإن العديد من الطلاب يرتبكون عندما يكتبون.

And they make spelling mistakes.

ويرتكبون أخطاء إملائية.

Ok?

So be really careful when you write.

نعم؟

لذا كن حذرًا جدًا عند الكتابة.

You have to know whether it’s the basic form ‘there is’,

عليك أن تعرف ما إذا كان هذا هو الشكل الأساسي "هناك"، أو

The possessive adjective, ‘there’, or the contraction of ‘they are’.

صفة الملكية، أو "هناك"، أو تقلص "هم".

This is very important not to make spelling mistakes.

هذا مهم جدًا حتى لا ترتكب أخطاء إملائية.

And when you pronounce them, don’t make it more complicated than it is.

وعندما تنطقهم، لا تجعل الأمر أكثر تعقيدا مما هو عليه.

The sound is exactly the same.

الصوت هو نفسه تماما.

One of those sentences is wrong.

mistake that many students make even native speakers.

خطأ شائع جدًا في اللغة الإنجليزية يرتكبه العديد من الطلاب حتى المتحدثين الأصليين.

Mostly when speaking English.

في الغالب عند التحدث باللغة الإنجليزية.

It's the difference between the words 'good' and 'well'.

إنه الفرق بين كلمتي "جيد" و"حسن".

Do you know the difference between the two words?

هل تعرف الفرق بين الكلمتين؟

It's not so much a writing mistake.

إنه ليس خطأً في الكتابة كثيرًا.

It's more of a speaking mistake.

إنه أكثر من خطأ في الكلام.

Especially, in familiar contexts, but you need to know about it and to fix it,

خاصة، في السياقات المألوفة، ولكن عليك أن تعرف عنها وتصلحها،

if you want to show off and speak good English.

إذا كنت تريد التباهي والتحدث باللغة الإنجليزية بشكل جيد.

So let's get started with a few examples.

لذلك دعونا نبدأ مع بعض الأمثلة.

‘He is a good tennis player.’

"إنه لاعب تنس جيد."

Do you think that sentence is right?

هل تعتقد أن هذه الجملة صحيحة؟

It is right.

هذا صحيح.

Why?

لماذا؟

Because we have the adjective ‘good’ and then the noun ‘tennis player’.

لأن لدينا صفة "جيد" ثم الاسم "لاعب تنس".

An adjective, as you know, describes a noun.

الصفة، كما تعلمون، تصف الاسم.

Okay so how is the tennis player?

حسنًا، كيف حال لاعب التنس؟

The tennis player is good.

لاعب التنس جيد.

Okay?

تمام؟

When you say, ‘You speak good English’

عندما تقول، "أنت تتحدث الإنجليزية بشكل جيد"

That's also a correct sentence.

فهذه أيضًا جملة صحيحة.

You have a noun – ‘English’.

لديك اسم - "الإنجليزية".

And an adjective describing that noun – ‘good’.

والصفة التي تصف هذا الاسم هي "جيد".

So how is your English?

إذن كيف هي لغتك الإنجليزية؟

It's good.

إنه جيد.

Third sentence is also a correct sentence.

الجملة الثالثة هي أيضا جملة صحيحة.

‘Your English is good’.

'لغتك الإنجليزية جيدة'.

As I've just said, an adjective that describes a noun.

كما قلت للتو، صفة تصف الاسم.

Now if we say, ‘This tennis player plays well’.

الآن إذا قلنا: "لاعب التنس هذا يلعب بشكل جيد".

Is this correct?

هل هذا صحيح؟

It is correct because in this case,

هذا صحيح لأنه في هذه الحالة،

you have no adjectives, but you have an adverb.

ليس لديك صفات، ولكن لديك ظرف.

Now an adverb describes a verb, another adverb, or an adjective.

الآن يصف الظرف فعلًا أو ظرفًا آخر أو صفة.

In this sentence, it describes the verb 'plays'.

في هذه الجملة يصف الفعل "يلعب".

Okay, how do you play?

حسنًا، كيف تلعب؟

You play well.

أنت تلعب جيدا.

So 'well' is an adverb.

لذا فإن "حسنًا" هو ظرف.

‘You speak English well’ is also correct.

"أنت تتحدث الإنجليزية جيدًا" صحيحة أيضًا.

The adverb, ‘well’, describes the verb 'to speak'.

يصف الظرف "حسنًا" الفعل "يتكلم".

Okay so there is a difference.

حسنًا إذن هناك فرق.

The adjective is good.

الصفة جيدة.

The adverb is well.

الظرف جيد.

So when you say, ‘You play good’,

لذا، عندما تقول "أنت تلعب بشكل جيد"،

do you think that's right?

هل تعتقد أن هذا صحيح؟

I don't.

أنا لا.

It's incorrect and you will hear many native speakers tell you that.

هذا غير صحيح وسوف تسمع العديد من المتحدثين الأصليين يقولون لك ذلك.

Tell you, ‘You play good’.

أقول لك، "أنت تلعب بشكل جيد".

But this is incorrect.

ولكن هذا غير صحيح.

Why?

لماذا؟

Remember what we said, ‘good’ is an adjective.

تذكر ما قلناه، "جيد" هو صفة.

It describes a noun.

ويصف اسما.

Do you see a noun in that sentence?

هل ترى اسما في تلك الجملة؟

I don't.

أنا لا.

But we have a verb, ‘you play’, so what you need is not an adjective,

لكن لدينا فعل، "أنت تلعب"، لذا فإن ما تحتاجه ليس صفة،

it's an adverb.

بل ظرف.

‘You play well’.

'أنت تلعب جيدا'.

If you say, ‘You speak English good’,

إذا قلت، "أنت تتحدث الإنجليزية جيدًا"، فهذا

again incorrect.

غير صحيح مرة أخرى.

Because you need to describe the verb ‘speak’.

لأنك تحتاج إلى وصف الفعل "يتكلم".

So you need an adverb.

لذلك أنت بحاجة إلى ظرف.

‘You speak English well’.

'انت تتحدث الانجليزية بشكل جيد'.

Okay?

تمام؟

So it's very important for you to know the difference between adjectives

لذلك من المهم جدًا أن تعرف الفرق بين الصفات

and adverbs.

والظروف.

Especially in this case, with ‘good’ as an adjective

خاصة في هذه الحالة، مع "جيد" كصفة

and ‘well’ as an adverb’.

و"جيد" كظرف.

So please try to remember these rules.

لذا يرجى محاولة تذكر هذه القواعد.

Try to use it properly and speak good English.

and in this video I'm gonna tell you about the  most common English mistake in the universe.

وفي هذا الفيديو سأخبركم عن الخطأ الإنجليزي الأكثر شيوعًا في الكون.

Now even native speakers make that mistake.

الآن حتى المتحدثين الأصليين يرتكبون هذا الخطأ.

My mother makes that mistake.

والدتي ترتكب هذا الخطأ.

And to be honest, sometimes I do.

ولكي أكون صادقًا، أحيانًا أفعل ذلك.

Its not so much a speaking mistake. It's a writing mistake.

إنه ليس خطأً في التحدث كثيرًا. إنه خطأ في الكتابة.

It's actually to write the possessive  adjective 'your' instead of

إنها في الواقع كتابة صفة الملكية "your" بدلاً من

the contraction 'you're' from 'you are'.

تقلص "you're" من "you are".

This is the most common English mistake

هذا هو الخطأ الأكثر شيوعًا في اللغة الإنجليزية

But you need to fix it if you want to speak proper English.

ولكن عليك إصلاحه إذا كنت تريد التحدث باللغة الإنجليزية بشكل سليم.

Okay, so let's take a look at a  few example sentences together.

حسنًا، دعونا نلقي نظرة على بعض الجمل النموذجية معًا.

"Your daughter is pretty."

"ابنتك جميلة."

So 'your daughter'.

إذن "ابنتك".

This is the possessive adjective of 'you'.

هذه هي صفة الملكية لـ "أنت".

Whose daughter?

ابنة من؟

Yours.

خاصة بك.

Okay?

So the daughter belongs to you.

تمام؟

لذا فإن الابنة ملك لك.

That's a possessive adjective.

هذه صفة ملكية.

So the sentence is correct.

إذن الجملة صحيحة .

In the second sentence,

في الجملة الثانية،

"You're a pretty daughter."

"أنت ابنة جميلة."

See the difference?

ترى الفرق؟

Now this is not a possessive adjective.

الآن هذه ليست صفة ملكية.

This is the verb 'to be'.

هذا هو الفعل "ليكون".

But it's the contraction, so it's "You are a pretty daughter."

لكن هذا هو الانكماش، لذا فهو "أنت ابنة جميلة".

and the contraction is "You're a pretty daughter."

والانكماش هو "أنت ابنة جميلة".

The problem here is that 'you're' - possessive adjectives and

المشكلة هنا هي أن "أنت" - صفات الملكية و

'you're' - contraction of the verb 'to be'

"أنت" - تقلص الفعل "ليكون"

have the exact same sound in  many English-speaking regions.

لهما نفس الصوت تمامًا في العديد من المناطق الناطقة باللغة الإنجليزية.

Okay it's very similar.

حسنا انها مشابهة جدا.

So when we speak, it's the same.

لذا عندما نتحدث، الأمر نفسه.

People don't hear the difference.

الناس لا يسمعون الفرق.

So the very important thing  is to write it properly.

لذا فإن الشيء المهم جدًا هو كتابته بشكل صحيح.

And there are so many spelling mistakes.

وهناك الكثير من الأخطاء الإملائية.

If we look at the third sentence:

إذا نظرنا إلى الجملة الثالثة:

"Your a nice person."

"أنت شخص لطيف".

What do you think?

ماذا تعتقد؟

Is the sentence right or wrong?

هل الجملة صحيحة أم خاطئة؟

Well it's wrong.

حسنًا، هذا خطأ.

"Your a nice person."

"أنت شخص لطيف."

"You are a nice person."

"انت شخص لطيف."

So it's the verb 'to be'.

إذن هو الفعل "يكون".

Okay, so it's not 'your'.

حسنًا، إنها ليست "خاصتك".

This is the possessive adjective

هذه هي صفة الملكية

and it should be "you're"- you apostrophe 're'.

ويجب أن تكون "أنت" - الفاصلة العليا "إعادة".

Okay?

تمام؟

I hope you understand the difference between the

أتمنى أن تفهم الفرق بين

possessive adjective 'your' and the verb 'to be' contracted so "you're".

Okay so spelling is key here.

And when you speak English, people don't hear the difference.

so it's fine

but it's important to know how to write it and in fact if you look at Facebook

ولكن من المهم معرفة كيفية كتابتها وفي الواقع إذا نظرت إلى

pages or Twitter accounts, even from native speakers,

صفحات الفيسبوك أو حسابات تويتر، حتى من المتحدثين الأصليين،

you will see this mistake.

سوف ترى هذا الخطأ.

Don't hesitate to correct native speakers. Okay?

لا تتردد في تصحيح الناطقين بها. تمام؟

Everybody should stop making that huge mistake.

يجب على الجميع التوقف عن ارتكاب هذا الخطأ الفادح.

Now it's very simple but it's very confusing,

because they both sound the same.

So even native speakers make a lot of mistakes. Okay?

So listen to me very carefully. It's very simple.

‘who’s’ ‘who + apostrophe + s’ is the contraction

"من" "من + الفاصلة العليا + s" هو اختصار

of the verb ‘to be’.

الفعل "ليكون".

So it's actually ‘who is’.

لذلك فهو في الواقع "من هو".

If I say, ‘who's on the phone?’

إذا قلت: من على الهاتف؟

It’s ‘who is on the phone’.

إنه "من على الهاتف".

‘whose’ in one word ‘whose’

"الذي" في كلمة واحدة "الذي"

is the possessive.

هو الملكية.

It means who does it belong to.

يعني لمن ينتمي

For example,

على سبيل المثال،

‘Whose bag is this?’

"حقيبة من هذه؟"

meaning ‘who does this bag belong to?’

بمعنى "لمن تنتمي هذه الحقيبة؟"

And you can say, ‘It's my bag.’

ويمكنك أن تقول: "إنها حقيبتي".

‘It's your bag.’ It's a possessive.

"إنها حقيبتك." إنها ملكية.

If you really don't know

إذا كنت لا تعرف حقًا،

just try and replace the ‘s’  or ‘se’ with the verb 'to be'.

فقط حاول استبدال "s" أو "se" بفعل "to be".

And see if it works.

ومعرفة ما إذا كان يعمل.

If it works, then it's the  contraction of the verb ‘to be’.

إذا نجح، فهذا هو اختصار الفعل "ليكون".

Let's see together with a few examples.

First, ‘Who's calling?’

Which one is it?

أي واحد هو؟

Is it the contraction of the verb ‘to be’

or is it the possessive?

Can you say, ‘Who is calling?’ Does that work?

هل يمكنك أن تقول، "من المتصل؟" هل هذا يعمل؟

Yes, it does.

So it is the contraction of the verb to be.

إذن هو انقباض الفعل ليكون.

‘Who is calling?’

'من الذي يتصل؟'

Now a second example,

والآن المثال الثاني،

well, let's take our very first example.

حسنًا، لنأخذ المثال الأول.

‘Whose mother is this?’

"من هذه الأم؟"

Which one is it?

أي واحد هو؟

Is it the verb ‘to be’?

هل هو الفعل "يكون"؟

Or Is it the possessive?

أم أنها الملكية؟

Can you say, ‘Who is mother is this?’

هل يمكنك أن تقول: من هي هذه الأم؟

No. You can't. It's incorrect.

رقم لا يمكنك ذلك. هذا غير صحيح.

It's the possessive. ‘Whose mother is this?’

إنها الملكية. "من هذه الأم؟"

It's my mother. It's your mother.

إنها والدتي. إنها والدتك.

It's his mother.

إنها والدته.

Okay?

تمام؟

Now one final example.

الآن مثال أخير.

‘Who's in the house?’

'من بالمنزل؟'

Come on, guys.

كونوا واقعيين يا قوم.

Which one is it?

أي واحد هو؟

Is it the verb ‘to be’ or is it the possessive?

هل هو الفعل "يكون" أم هو الملكية؟

It's obviously the verb ‘to be’.

ومن الواضح أن الفعل "يكون".

You can say, ‘Who is in the house?’

يمكنك أن تقول: من في المنزل؟

Okay? I really hope you understand the difference.

It's a very common mistake.

But it's not difficult to fix.

I think it's time for me to let you know the difference between ‘hard’ and ‘hardly’.

Let's get to it.

the difference between ‘hard’ and ‘hardly’.

Because so many of my students  keep making this huge mistake

لأن الكثير من طلابي يستمرون في ارتكاب هذا الخطأ الفادح،

they use hardly as an adverb  and this is incorrect, ok?

نادرًا ما يستخدمونه كظرف وهذا غير صحيح، حسنًا؟

So it's time to fix that mistake.

Let's look at some example sentences together.

دعونا نلقي نظرة على بعض الجمل سبيل المثال معا.

Ok, so if I say,

حسنًا، إذا قلت:

‘I'm a quick runner.’ or ‘I run quickly.’

"أنا عداء سريع". أو "أنا أركض بسرعة."

The meaning is the exact same.

المعنى هو نفسه بالضبط.

There's no difference.

ليس هناك فرق.

But in the first sentence, I use an adjective.

لكن في الجملة الأولى، أستخدم الصفة.

‘I'm a quick runner.’

"أنا عداء سريع."

And it describes a noun.

ويصف اسما.

Because as you know, an  adjective describes a noun.

لأنه كما تعلم، الصفة تصف الاسم.

In the second sentence,

وفي الجملة الثانية:

‘I run quickly.'

"أنا أركض بسرعة".

I go with an adverb.

أذهب مع ظرف.

That describes a verb.

الذي يصف الفعل.

Okay.

تمام.

Most of the time,

في أغلب الأحيان،

you can go from an adjective to an adverb

يمكنك الانتقال من الصفة إلى الظرف

by adding ‘ly’.

بإضافة "ly".

So from 'quick',

لذلك من "سريع"،

we have the adverb 'quickly'.

لدينا الظرف "بسرعة".

Same thing goes for the second sentence,

الشيء نفسه ينطبق على الجملة الثانية،

Well, the third actually.

حسنا، الثالثة في الواقع.

‘She's a beautiful dancer.'

"إنها راقصة جميلة."

'She dances beautifully.’

"إنها ترقص بشكل جميل."

The meaning is the same,

المعنى هو نفسه،

but in the first sentence, we use an adjective.

ولكن في الجملة الأولى نستخدم الصفة.

'She's a beautiful dancer,' it describes a noun.

"إنها راقصة جميلة،" يصف الاسم.

‘She dances beautifully.’

"إنها ترقص بشكل جميل."

That's an adverb

هذا ظرف

‘beautifully’

"بشكل جميل"

We added ‘ly’.

أضفنا "ly".

So when you say,

لذلك عندما تقول،

‘You're a hard worker.’

"أنت عامل مجتهد."

You might think that you can say,

قد تعتقد أنه يمكنك القول:

‘You work hardly.’

"أنت تعمل بجد".

You add ‘ly’,

يمكنك إضافة "ly"،

go from an adjective to an adverb. Right?

والانتقال من الصفة إلى الظرف. يمين؟

Well, I'm sorry guys, but this doesn't work.

It's incorrect, because ‘hard’ is an exception.

هذا غير صحيح، لأن "الصعب" هو استثناء.

‘Hard’ is an adjective and an adverb.

"الصعب" هو صفة و ظرف.

It's the same word.

إنها نفس الكلمة.

So you will say,

لذلك سوف تقول:

‘You work hard.’

"أنت تعمل بجد".

Okay? ‘You're a hard worker.’

تمام؟ "أنت عامل مجتهد."

‘You work hard.’

'أنت تعمل بجد.'

‘Hard is an adverb as well.’

"الصعب هو ظرف كذلك."

Now, the word ‘hardly’ does exist in the English language.

الآن، كلمة "بالكاد" موجودة في اللغة الإنجليزية.

The problem is that the meaning  is completely different.

المشكلة هي أن المعنى مختلف تماما.

‘hardly’ means almost not.

"بالكاد" تعني تقريبًا لا.

So actually, when you say,

لذلك في الواقع، عندما تقول:

‘You hardly work.’ Or ‘You work hardly.’

"أنت بالكاد تعمل". أو "أنت تعمل بجد."

It means, you practically don't work.

يعني عمليا أنت لا تعمل.

You really don't work.

أنت حقا لا تعمل.

Okay?

So you'll understand if you tell me,

لذلك سوف تفهم إذا قلت لي:

‘I work hardly.’

"أنا أعمل بجد".

I'm gonna get really angry.

سأغضب حقًا.

Okay?

So this is a huge mistake that you need to fix.

تمام؟

لذلك هذا خطأ فادح يجب عليك إصلاحه.

The adverb of the adjective ‘hard’ is ‘hard’.

ظرف الصفة "الصعب" هو "الصعب".

And ‘hardly’ means almost not.

و"بالكاد" تعني تقريبًا لا.

So for example, ‘I work hardly.’ means

على سبيل المثال، "أنا أعمل بجد". تعني

‘I almost don't work.’

"أنا لا أعمل تقريبًا".

And ‘I work hard.’

و"أنا أعمل بجد".

means ‘I work a lot.’

يعني "أنا أعمل كثيرًا".

keep making when using superlatives  and comparatives in English.

And it drives me crazy!

So I want you to fix them if you keep making them.

لذلك أريدك أن تصلحها إذا واصلت صنعها.

Okay.

So let's and take a few examples.

لذلك دعونا نأخذ بعض الأمثلة.

For example, “I am more taller than my sister.”

على سبيل المثال: "أنا أطول من أختي".

This is absolutely incorrect.

هذا غير صحيح على الاطلاق.

I hope you know this.

The comparative form of ‘tall’ is ‘taller’.

الشكل المقارن لكلمة "طويل القامة" هو "أطول".

You don't need more.

لا تحتاج إلى المزيد.

Okay. ‘more’ is a double comparison.

تمام. "المزيد" هي مقارنة مزدوجة.

It's grammatically incorrect.

انها غير صحيحة نحويا.

So you just say, “I am taller than my sister.”

لذلك تقول فقط: "أنا أطول من أختي".

Second example.

المثال الثاني.

“His house is the beautifulest in town.”

"منزله هو الأجمل في المدينة."

Wrong!

خطأ!

You have to say, “This house is the most beautiful in town.”

عليك أن تقول: "هذا المنزل هو الأجمل في المدينة".

As you know, when it's a long word, the  superlative is ‘most’ plus the adjective.

كما تعلم، عندما تكون الكلمة طويلة، فإن صيغة التفضيل تكون "معظم" بالإضافة إلى الصفة.

And then we have, “His older  son is badder at math than her.”

وبعد ذلك نقول: "ابنه الأكبر أسوأ منها في الرياضيات".

This is also incorrect because as you know,

وهذا أيضًا غير صحيح لأنه كما تعلم، فإن

‘bad’, is an exception.

كلمة "سيئ" هي استثناء.

The comparative form of ‘bad’ is ‘worse’.

الشكل المقارن لكلمة "سيء" هو "أسوأ".

So you should say, “His older son is worse at math than her.”

لذلك ينبغي أن تقول: "ابنه الأكبر أسوأ منها في الرياضيات".

“I'm tireder than yesterday.”

"أنا متعب من الأمس."

Again this is incorrect.

مرة أخرى هذا غير صحيح.

Because the comparison for ‘tired’ is “I'm more tired than yesterday.”

لأن المقارنة بين كلمة "متعب" هي "أنا متعب أكثر من الأمس".

With two syllable adjectives, it's a little bit tricky.

مع الصفات المكونة من مقطعين، يكون الأمر صعبًا بعض الشيء.

Most of the time when they end in ‘y’, you just add ‘er’.

في أغلب الأحيان عندما تنتهي بـ "y"، ما عليك سوى إضافة "er".

When they don't, you use ‘more’.

عندما لا يفعلون ذلك، يمكنك استخدام "المزيد".

So in this case, we say, “I'm more tired than yesterday.”

لذلك في هذه الحالة نقول: "أنا متعب أكثر من الأمس".

And finally, “This is my most happiest day.”

وأخيرا، "هذا هو أسعد يوم لي."

Again, double superlative.

مرة أخرى، صيغة التفضيل المزدوجة.

This is incorrect.

You can just say, “This is my happiest day.”

يمكنك فقط أن تقول: "هذا هو أسعد أيامي".

I know you know the rules, but please stop making these mistakes.

Now it's not so much a speaking mistake,

but it's a writing - a spelling mistake

that a lot of students make  and I want you to fix it.

It's the difference between 'than' t-h-a-n and 'then' t-h-e-n.

إنه الفرق بين "من" و "ثم" إذن.

Now as you can hear the sound  is practically the same,

الآن كما يمكنك سماع الصوت هو نفسه تقريبًا،

but the spelling is different.

لكن التهجئة مختلفة.

so you need to know the difference.

لذلك عليك أن تعرف الفرق.

Let's take a look at two example sentences.

دعونا نلقي نظرة على جملتين سبيل المثال.

First we have, "John is taller than Sarah."

أولًا لدينا: "جون أطول من سارة".

So in this case, we have 'than' t-h-a-n.

لذلك في هذه الحالة، لدينا "من" من.

Which is a word that we use for comparisons okay.

وهي الكلمة التي نستخدمها لإجراء المقارنات حسنا.

When we want to compare two things.

عندما نريد المقارنة بين شيئين.

John is taller than Sarah.

I am more beautiful than you.

أنا أجمل منك.

Okay?

In this case, you will use t-h-a-n.

في هذه الحالة سوف تستخدم من.

Now if we look at the second sentence.

الآن إذا نظرنا إلى الجملة الثانية.

I went to school, then I went home.

ذهبت إلى المدرسة، ثم ذهبت إلى المنزل.

Now in this case, 'then' is spelled t-h-e-n

الآن في هذه الحالة، تتم كتابة كلمة "ثم" بعد ذلك

and has a very different meaning.

ولها معنى مختلف تمامًا.

We use 'then' t-h-e-n as a word to mark a sequence of actions.

So it's a time word that we use in English.

"I went to school...

So two different meanings.

Different spellings.

And it's a very common writing mistake.

My students keep making this mistake and it drives me crazy.

Now let's have a look and a few sentences.

الآن دعونا نلقي نظرة وبعض الجمل.

First, I made my choice.

أولاً، لقد قمت باختياري.

I choose spaghetti.

اخترت السباغيتي.

Now the verb 'choose' as you know,

والآن الفعل "يختار" كما تعلم

.... and means making a choice.

.... ويعني الاختيار.

And the spelling is with double-o. Okay?

والتهجئة تكون بالحرف o المزدوج. تمام؟

There are two O's in the verb  'choose' - present tense.

هناك حرفان O في الفعل "choose" - في زمن المضارع.

'I chose pasta, yesterday.'

"لقد اخترت المعكرونة بالأمس."

Now the difference is now it's past tense.

الآن الفرق هو أن الزمن الماضي.

And the verb in its past form only has  one 'o' and it's pronounced 'chose'.

والفعل في صيغته الماضية لا يحتوي إلا على حرف o واحد فقط وينطق بـ chos.

Okay, so 'choose' - present tense.

حسنًا، "اختر" - في زمن المضارع.

'chose' - past tense.

"اختار" - الفعل الماضي.

But then if we take the second sentence and we say,

لكن إذا أخذنا الجملة الثانية وقلنا،

I try not to...

أحاول ألا أفعل...

... and I suppose you're gonna tell me  'Loes' because there's only one 'o'.

... وأفترض أنك ستقول لي "Loes" لأنه يوجد حرف "o" واحد فقط.

Well, no guys.

حسنا، لا الرجال.

I'm sorry English pronunciation is really hard,

أنا آسف لأن نطق اللغة الإنجليزية صعب حقًا،

but the sound is the same as 'choose '.

ولكن الصوت هو نفس صوت "اختيار".

Okay, 'I try not to lose anything when I travel'.

حسنًا، "أحاول ألا أخسر أي شيء عندما أسافر".

So there's only one 'o' but it's pronounced lose.

لذلك هناك حرف "o" واحد فقط ولكن يتم نطقه بـ "خسارة".

'But I lost my wallet when I went to Egypt'.

This is the past form of 'lose' - 'lost'.

Okay so try and remember -

'choose' 'chose'

So two 'O's - one 'O'.

With only one 'O'.

And in this video, I'm gonna talk to you about

وفي هذا الفيديو، سأتحدث معكم عن

a very common speaking and spelling mistake in English.

خطأ شائع جدًا في التحدث والإملاء باللغة الإنجليزية.

And we're going to focus on the words, ‘work’ and ‘homework’.

وسوف نركز على الكلمتين "العمل" و"الواجب المنزلي".

So the first thing you need to know, When the word ‘work’ is a verb, it can

لذا فإن أول شيء تحتاج إلى معرفته، عندما تكون كلمة "work" فعلًا، فيمكن أن

take an ‘s’, if it's the third-person singular.

تأخذ حرف "s"، إذا كانت بضمير الغائب.

So you will say, ‘I work hard.’ ‘He works hard.’

لذلك سوف تقول: "أنا أعمل بجد". 'انه يعمل بجد.'

Okay? Very common, very normal verb, okay?

تمام؟ شائع جدًا، فعل عادي جدًا، حسنًا؟

So it takes an ‘S’ with the third-person singular.

لذا فإن الأمر يتطلب حرف "S" مع ضمير الغائب المفرد.

That's when ‘work’ is a verb.

وذلك عندما يكون "العمل" فعلًا.

Now when you say, ‘I have a lot of work.’

الآن عندما تقول: "لدي الكثير من العمل".

‘work’, in this case, is not a verb. It's a noun.

"العمل" في هذه الحالة ليس فعلًا. انها اسما.

And you have to know.

وعليك أن تعرف.

When work is a noun, it does not take an ‘s’, because there's no plural.

عندما يكون العمل اسما، فإنه لا يأخذ حرف السين، لأنه لا يوجد جمع.

You cannot say, ‘I have a lot of works.’

لا يمكنك أن تقول: "لدي الكثير من الأعمال".

It’s always singular, because  it's an uncountable noun.

وهو دائمًا مفرد، لأنه اسم غير معدود.

Okay? So, ‘I have a lot of work’

تمام؟ لذا، "لدي الكثير من العمل"

Or you could say, ‘I don't have much work.’, Okay? Because it's uncountable.

أو يمكنك أن تقول، "ليس لدي الكثير من العمل". حسنًا؟ لأنه لا يحصى.

Now it can take a plural form, but only if it means not mental exertion like

الآن يمكن أن تأخذ صيغة الجمع، ولكن فقط إذا كانت لا تعني مجهودًا ذهنيًا مثل

‘I have a lot of work.’

"لدي الكثير من العمل".

But if it means a series of art  pieces or literature pieces.

أما إذا كان يعني سلسلة من القطع الفنية أو القطع الأدبية.

And that's the only meaning of the word  'work' that allows you to use the plural form.

وهذا هو المعنى الوحيد لكلمة "عمل" الذي يسمح لك باستخدام صيغة الجمع.

So for example, you can  say, ‘The works of Picasso.’

على سبيل المثال، يمكنك أن تقول، "أعمال بيكاسو".

‘The works of Picasso’ meaning  ‘The paintings of Picasso’, okay?

"أعمال بيكاسو" تعني "لوحات بيكاسو"، حسنًا؟

So art pieces, that's not the  same as ‘I have a lot of work.’

لذا فإن القطع الفنية ليست مثل "لدي الكثير من الأعمال".

Okay?

تمام؟

Now, when you use the compound noun, ‘homework’,

الآن، عندما تستخدم الاسم المركب، "homework"،

it's exactly the same as  'work' as an uncountable noun.

فهو تمامًا مثل "work" كاسم غير معدود.

It's uncountable, okay?

إنه لا يحصى، حسنا؟

So when you say, ‘I have a lot of homeworks.’, it's wrong.

لذلك عندما تقول: "لدي الكثير من الواجبات المنزلية"، فهذا خطأ.

You cannot use the plural form. It’s uncountable. You have to say, ‘I have a lot of homework.’

لا يمكنك استخدام صيغة الجمع. انها لا تحصى. عليك أن تقول: "لدي الكثير من الواجبات المنزلية".

If you really want to emphasize the fact that you have many things to do at home,

إذا كنت تريد حقًا التأكيد على حقيقة أن لديك أشياء كثيرة للقيام بها في المنزل،

you can use another word and say, ‘assignment’.

فيمكنك استخدام كلمة أخرى وتقول "مهمة".

You can say, 'I have many assignments.’

يمكنك أن تقول: "لدي العديد من المهام".

It's the same as 'homework', but it is countable. Okay?

إنه نفس "الواجب المنزلي"، لكنه قابل للعد. تمام؟

So in a nutshell, ‘work’ as a verb, just does take an ‘s’.

باختصار، "العمل" كفعل، يأخذ حرف "s" فقط.

If it's the third-person singular.

إذا كان بضمير الغائب المفرد.

‘work’ as a noun is uncountable, unless it  means pieces of art or pieces of literature.

"العمل" كاسم لا يحصى، إلا إذا كان يعني قطعًا فنية أو قطعًا أدبية.

And the word ‘homework’ is also uncountable. No plural form.

وكلمة "الواجب المنزلي" أيضًا لا تعد ولا تحصى. لا صيغة الجمع.
