PASSIVE VOICE | Learn How To Change From Active to Passive Voice in English Grammar

I’m going  to be teaching you about the active and passive voice in English.

می‌خواهم صدای فعال و غیرفعال را به زبان انگلیسی به شما آموزش دهم.

Now many of  you know how to use the active voice,

but you might have a tough time switching over using the passive voice.

So before we can start switching our  sentences from active to passive,

it's very important for us to understand  the different parts of a sentence.

Let's look at our board.

We have a sentence written, ‘The boy opened the door.’

This is an example of an active sentence

این نمونه ای از جمله فعال است

which usually follows the pattern of subject verb object.

که معمولاً از الگوی مفعول فعل فاعل پیروی می کند.

Our subject the ‘doer’ is ‘the boy’. But what did the boy do? 

موضوع ما "انجام دهنده" "پسر" است. اما پسر چه کرد؟

‘The boy opened…’ ‘open’ is the example of an action. 

«پسر باز شد…» «باز کردن» مثالی از یک عمل است.

What did the boy open? The boy opened the door. 

پسر چه چیزی را باز کرد؟ پسر در را باز کرد.

‘the door’ is the receiver or the direct object. 

«در» گیرنده یا شیء مستقیم است.

So again, before we can really switch  our sentences from active to the passive, 

بنابراین، قبل از اینکه واقعاً بتوانیم جملات خود را از فعال به مفعول تغییر

it's very important for us to understand  the different parts of a sentence. 

دهیم، برای ما بسیار مهم است که قسمت‌های مختلف یک جمله را درک کنیم.

And the more that we understand  different parts of a sentence, 

و هر چه بیشتر قسمت‌های مختلف یک جمله را بفهمیم

the easier it will be to switching  active sentences to passive sentences.

So now let's switch our active  sentence over to a passive one. 

بنابراین اکنون بیایید جمله فعال خود را به یک جمله غیرفعال تغییر دهیم.

Here's our sentence from before: ‘The boy opened the door.’ 

این جمله ما از قبل است: «پسر در را باز کرد.»

Now, we have, ‘The door was opened by the boy.’

اکنون، «در را پسر باز کرد.»

Like I mentioned earlier, for active sentences, they follow the subject verb object pattern. 

همانطور که قبلاً اشاره کردم، برای جملات فعال، از الگوی مفعول فعل فاعل پیروی می کنند.

Well it's a little bit different  from the passive sentence. 

خوب این کمی با جمله مفعول متفاوت است.

Before we had the receiver  at the end of the sentence, 

قبل از اینکه گیرنده را در انتهای جمله داشته باشیم،

now we have the receiver in  the beginning of the sentence. 

اکنون گیرنده را در ابتدای جمله داریم.

‘The door was opened…’ Wow. Our verb is the same. 

"در باز شد..." وای. فعل ما هم همینطور است.

Or the action is the same. But we have a ‘to be’ verb added on. 

یا عمل همان است. اما ما یک فعل 'to be' اضافه کرده ایم.

‘was opened’ is our ‘to be’ verb  plus the past participle of ‘open’. 

"باز شد" فعل "بودن" ما به اضافه فعل ماضی "باز" ​​است.

Now, it could also be these ‘to be’ verbs as well.

اکنون، این افعال «بودن» نیز می تواند باشد.

But, we're going to use ‘was’.

اما، ما از "بود" استفاده می کنیم.

And this will change depending on the  tense that we're using in our sentence. 

و این بسته به زمانی که در جمله خود استفاده می کنیم تغییر می کند.

We also have ‘the door being opened by the boy’.

ما همچنین "دری که پسر باز می کند" داریم.

Now, the reason why we have it in brackets is because

اکنون، دلیل اینکه ما آن را در پرانتز داریم این است که

sometimes we don't need to know who is the ‘doer’.

گاهی اوقات نیازی به دانستن اینکه چه کسی «انجام دهنده» است، نیست.

In this sense, the boy is the ‘doer’. And this ‘by’ helps us understand that  

از این نظر، پسر «فاعل» است. و این «by» به ما کمک می‌کند بفهمیم که

it is the boy who is opening the door.

این پسر است که در را باز می‌کند.

Let's look at some more examples.

بیایید به چند نمونه دیگر نگاه کنیم.

Okay, so now we have examples of active sentences  that we're going to change to passive sentences.  

بسیار خوب، اکنون نمونه‌هایی از جملات فعال داریم که می‌خواهیم آنها را به جملات مفعول تغییر دهیم.

Let's look at our first one.

بیایید به اولین مورد خود نگاه کنیم.

‘The woman helped the man.’

«زن به مرد کمک کرد.»

We learned earlier that whenever we're  changing active sentences to passive sentences, 

قبلاً یاد گرفتیم که هر زمان که جملات فعال را به جملات مفعول

we are going to need to switch  our doer and our receiver. 

تغییر می دهیم، باید انجام دهنده و گیرنده خود را تغییر دهیم.

In this one, the doer, who is the woman, is  going to switch places with the receiver,

who is the man, because now the man is  the focus of the sentence and will now

come to the front - the man.

But what's our action?

Well in our sentence before,  our action is ‘helped’.

We're going to now change this  to the past participle which,

luckily for us the past participle,  is ‘helped’.

خوشبختانه برای ما فعل ماضی «کمک‌شده» است.

Now, we're going to add our ‘to be’ verb which is ‘was’.

اکنون، ما فعل "بودن" خود را اضافه می کنیم که "بود" است.

So the man was helped. By whom?

The woman.

زن

Which is now at the end of the sentence.

‘The man was helped by the woman.’

Let's look at our next one.

‘The cat bit the girl.’

«گربه دختر را گاز گرفت.»

Just like we learned before, we're going to switch our doer and our receiver.

So now the girl is in the front of the sentence.

‘The girl… bit…’ The past participle of bit?

This one's a little bit different.

‘bit’ is going to change to ‘bitten’

«bit» به «گزیده» تغییر می‌کند

When we add our ‘to be’ verb ‘was’,

‘The girl was bitten...'

By what?

توسط چه؟

The cat.

‘The girl was bitten by the cat.’

‘The knife cut the bread.’ 

‘The bread was cut by the knife.’

«چاقو نان را برید

I think we're getting this.

».

‘The student answered the question.’

«دانش آموز به سؤال پاسخ داد.»

‘The question was answered by the student.’

«سوال توسط دانش آموز پاسخ داده شد.»

In our last one, ‘The teacher taught the class.’ 

در آخرین مورد، «معلم به کلاس درس داد.»

‘The class was taught by the teacher.’

«کلاس توسط معلم تدریس شد.»

Wow. I think we're getting better.

وای. فکر می کنم داریم بهتر می شویم.

Let's move on.

بیایید ادامه دهیم.

So earlier we changed some sentences from the active to the passive voice.

بنابراین قبلاً برخی از جملات را از صدای فعال به مفعول تغییر دادیم.

Well now, let's practice recognizing sentences in the active and passive voice.

Our first one, ‘The bat hit the ball.’

hmm,

well, I can see that the doer of my action

is the ‘bat’.

What did the bat do?

The action is ‘hit’. ‘The bat hit…’

What's the receiver?

‘The bat hit the ball.’

Oh, this is definitely

اوه، این

a sentence written in the active voice.

‘The food was cooked by the man.’

«غذا توسط مرد پخته شد.»

Now, there are some big clues in this sentence.

حالا سرنخ‌های بزرگی در این جمله وجود دارد.

‘…by the man.’ Oh, yeah. 

«... توسط مرد.» اوه، بله.

That's a clue.

این یک سرنخ است.

Also, ‘was cooked’.

همچنین، "پخته شد".

Well here's our past participle  and our ‘to be’ verb. 

خوب اینجا فعل ماضی و فعل «بودن» ما است.

This sentence, for sure, is a  sentence written in the passive voice. 

این جمله، مطمئناً، جمله ای است که با صدای مفعول نوشته شده است.

‘The floor was cleaned.’

«کف تمیز شد.»

Okay, so I see I have my ‘to be’ verb ‘was’.

بسیار خوب، پس می‌بینم که فعل «بودن» خود را دارم.

And my past participle ‘cleaned’.

و حرف ماضی من "تمیز شد".

But it seems like I’m missing something.

اما به نظر می رسد که من چیزی را از دست داده ام.

I have the receiver but not the doer.

من گیرنده را دارم اما انجام دهنده را نه.

It's okay.

مشکلی نیست.

Like we mentioned before, for some  sentences, you may not have the doer. 

همانطور که قبلاً ذکر کردیم، برای برخی از جملات، ممکن است شما انجام دهنده را نداشته باشید.

This is an example of a passive  sentence without the doer. 

این مثالی از جمله مفعول بدون فاعل است.

‘The essay about the economy  was written by the student.’

Now, it's okay. I know this is a big sentence. 

» حالا اشکالی ندارد. می دانم این جمله بزرگی است.

But I know we can do it.

اما من می دانم که ما می توانیم آن را انجام دهیم.

Because “boom” ‘by the student’.

زیرا «بوم» «توسط دانش‌آموز».

There's our clue.

سرنخ ما وجود دارد.

Also ‘was written’.

همچنین "نوشته شد".

We have our past participle and our ‘to be’ verb.

ما فعل ماضی و فعل «بودن» خود را داریم.

This is a sentence written in passive voice.

این جمله ای است که با صدای منفعل نوشته شده است.

And our last one. We're almost there. Stay with me. 

و آخرین مورد ما ما تقریبا اینجا هستیم. با من بمان

‘The best team won the football game.’ Good job team. 

«بهترین تیم بازی فوتبال را برد.» تیم خوب.

Our team is our doer.

تیم ما عامل ماست.

What did the team do?

تیم چه کرد؟

What's the action?

عمل چیست؟

The team won.

تیم پیروز شد.

What did they win? They won the football game. 

چه برنده شدند؟ آنها بازی فوتبال را بردند.

This is definitely a sentence  written in the active voice. 

این قطعاً جمله‌ای است که با صدای فعال نوشته شده است.

Ah, good job. That's some good practicing - recognizing  

آه، کار خوبی است. این چند تمرین خوب است - تشخیص

sentences written in the active and passive voice.

جملاتی که با صدای فعال و غیرفعال نوشته شده اند.

Now, let's move on.

You now have a basic understanding  of active and passive voice.
