And I've decided that I'm going to talk about

expressions and idioms that relate to animals.

التعبيرات والمصطلحات المتعلقة بالحيوانات

Because in a lot of our daily conversation,

لأننا في محادثتنا اليومية بكثرة

we mention animals

نذكر الحيوانات

but we don't always intend to talk about animals.

دون نية للحديث عن الحيوانات دوما

So let's talk about that today.

لذلك دعونا نتحدث عن ذلك اليوم

Right, let's get started with the lesson.

حسناً, لنبدأ الدرس

Now the first one,

المصطلح الاول

what am I talking about

ماذا ساقول!!

if I talk about the birds and the bees?

لو تحدثت عن الطيور والنحل

So I might say something like,

اعتقد سأقول

"I learned about the birds and the bees

تعلمت عن الطيور والنحل

"from my friends at school."

من اصدقائي في المدرسة

Or "My mom refused to teach me

او امي التي رفضت تعليمي ذلك

"about the birds and the bees."

ماذا عن مصطلح "الطيور والنحل"

What could it possibly mean?

ماذا ممكن ان يعني ذلك؟

It means sex education or sometimes just sex.

يعني : التعليم الجنسي او ببساطة (الجنس)

If I ask you, "Where did you learn

لو سألتك " أين تعلمت

"about the birds and the bees?"

عن الطيور والنحل"

I'm asking you, "Where did you learn

انا اسالك الان " اين تعلمت

"about how babies are made?", for example.

كيفية انجاب الاطفال؟" مثلاً

It's an important one to know

من المهم جدا على المرء ان يعرف ذلك

to avoid any awkward situations.

لتجنب اي مواقف محرجة

I don't want somebody to ask you

لا اريد ان يسألك شخص

about the birds and the bees

عن "الطيور والنحل"

and for you to start talking about honey and parrots.

وانت تجيب عن العسل والببغاوات

(laughing)

هههههههههه

The next one is to have ants in one's pants.

ثانيا: "لديك نمل في بنطالك"

I wonder if this one translates into your language.

أتسال لو تستطيع ترجمتها الى لغتك بكل تاكيد ههه

Comment below if this one is the same in your language.

اكتب بالتعليقات لو هناك مطابقة لهذا المصطلح في لغتك

But if you have ants in your pants,

لكن لديك " نمل في بنطالك"

it means that you are full of nervous energy,

المعنى "لديك طاقة عالية جدا

you can't stop moving,

ولا تقدر توقف"

you're maybe a little bit hyperactive.

ربما تكون "مفرط النشاط" قليلاً

So sometimes in the morning

احيانا في الصباح

I really want to go on my run

اود حقا ان اذهب للجري

and I have ants in my pants.

ويكون لدي " نمل في بطالي"

I can't stop moving until I go on my run

لا اتوقف حتى اصل

and burn all my energy.

واحرق كل طاقتي

Now the next one is a phrasal verb

الآن مع مصطلح من الجمل الفعلية

and it is to chicken out.

وهو " فزع" (خائف جدا)

To chicken out.

الفزع

I'm going to use it in a sentence for you.

سأستخدمه في جملة للتسهيل عليكم

I was going to jump off the cliff but I chickened out.

كنت سأقفز من المنحدر الصخري لكن فزعت

It's inseparable.

انه غير منفصل

You can't separate it.

لايمكنك كلمة عن الاخرى

It means, to decide not to do something

يعني: قررت ان لا اعمل ذلك

because you are scared.

لاني خايف

It's to avoid doing something because you are scared.

انها لتجنب القيام بشيء لأنك خائف

So I was going to jump off the cliff

اذا كنت ساقفز من المنحدر

but then I felt afraid so I didn't.

لكن شعرت بالخوف فلم افعلها

I chickened out.

انا خوفت بشدة

The next one, I've got another phrasal verb for you

ساجرب الجمل الفعلية من اجلكم

and this is to clam up.

وهو

To clam up.

الصمت المطبق

A clam is a shellfish, it's a type of seafood.

القوقعة هو المحار وهو نوع من اكلات البحر

Delicious.

لذيذ

But to clam up has nothing to do with shellfish.

لكن هذا المصطلح ليس له اي علاقة بالمحار

I could say, "I asked him where he was last night

بامكانني القول " اين كنت ليلة البارح؟

"and he quickly clammed up."

وهو ( صمت تماما) بسرعة"

If he clammed up it means

clammed up يعني

he shut his mouth, stopped talking.

اغلق فمه ولم يتحدث

And it means to stop talking quite suddenly and abruptly.

وتعني : وقف الحديث فجأة ومباشرة

Now the next one,

المصطلح القادم هو

I can't remember if I've mentioned this in a video before.

لا أتذكر اني قلت ذلك سابقاً

Maybe, but I think it's very relevant

ربما. لكن من المناسب جداً

and important for this video,

ومهم في هذا الدرس

it is to hold one's horses.

انه " اربط الاحصنة"

So it could be said as an exclamation,

ممكن ات يقال كتعجب

"Hold your horses!"

روض احصنتك

"Hold your horses!"

اربط الاحصنة

It means "Wait and be patient!

بمعنى: تحلى بالصبر

"Stop being impatient."

توقف عن كونك غير صبور

I remember my mom always used to say this to me,

اتذكر ان امي كانت تستخدم ذلك معي دائما

especially when it was snowing.

وتحديدا وقت نزول الثلج

I always wanted to get outside,

دائما اريد الذهاب خارجاً

go in the snow and she used to say,

للثلج وهي تقول لي

"Hold your horses.

" روضي الاحصنة"

"If you're going out on the snow,

لو تساقط الثلج

"you need to wear a hat, you need to wear a scarf,

لابد من لبس قبعة ووشاح

"we need to get your coat on."

وكذلك المعطف

And I was too excited, I had ants in my pants.

وكنت متحمسة جداً ، ولدي "نمل في بنطالي"

I had to hold my horses and I had to wait and be patient.

ويجب " اروض الاحصنة" واكون صبورة

The next one is to be in the dog house.

التالي : " تكون في بيت الكلب"

To be in the dog house.

: تكون في منزل الكلب

So I might say, "My dad came back

مثلا " ابي يرجع

"very late from the pub last night

متاخرا من الحانة الليلة الماضية

"and now he's in the dog house."

والآن هو في منزل الكلب

To be in the dog house means

بمعنى

that you are in trouble with another person.

انت بمشكلة مع شخص آخر

So my dad is in trouble with my mom.

اذا ابي بمشكلة مع امي

My mom is not happy with my dad

امي ليست سعيدة مع ابي

and she's put him, not literally, in the dog house.

وهي تجعله "ليس حرفيا ولكن بمعنى" في منزل الكلب

Now the next one is such a useful one.

المصطلح القادم مفيد جدا

I use it all the time.

وانا استخدمه طول الوقت

It is to kill two birds with one stone.

هو : ضرب عصفورين بحجر واحد

And you might be able to work out what it means actually.

وقد تكون قادرا على العمل على مايعنيه فعليا

And I'd love to know as well

وانا ارغب بشدة بذلك

تشابه المصطلحات في لغتك

To kill two birds with one stone

ضرب عصفورين بحجر واحد

is to get two things done,

انهاء امرين

to complete two tasks with just one effort.

انهاء مهمتين بمجهود واحد

If I pick up my friend from school

لو اخذ صديقي من المدرسة

and I go shopping on the same trip,

واذهب للتسوق بنفس المرة

I killed two birds with one stone

كذا ضربت عصفورين بحجر

because I've done two things with just one trip.

لانني قمت بامرين مرة واحدة

Okay, what's my next one?

حسنا, ماهو التالي

Straight from the horse's mouth.

" مباشرة من فم الحصان"

If you hear something straight from the horse's mouth

Straight from the horse's mouth.لو سمعت

it means that you are hearing it from the original source.

بمعنى: انك سمعت الخبر من المصدر الحقيقي

So if someone asks me, "Are you sure you're right

لو ان شخصا سألني " انت متأكدة بانك بخير

"about that piece of news?"

بشان ذلك الخبر؟

I'll say, "I heard it straight from the horse's mouth.

جوابي : " مباشرة من فم الحصان"

"They told me directly."

" قالها لي مباشرة"

And the last one is to smell a rat.

والاخير : " اشم رائحة جرذ"

"Hmm, I smell a rat here."

مممم انا اشم راحة جرذ هنا

Now, I actually really like rats

انا احب الجرذان بصدق

and they're actually quite clean and shouldn't smell.

وهم نظيفين وليس لهم رائحة

But if you smell a rat,

لكن لو "تشم رائحة جرذ"

it means that you suspect trickery

بمعنى : انك تشك في خداع

or wrongdoing in a situation.

او تتسأل عن اجابة

So if something is maybe too good to be true,

حتى اذا كان هناك شي ربما جيد جدا وصالحاً

like for example I've just had a Nigerian prince

على سبيل المثال: تلقيت مكالمة من امير نيجيري

tell me that I've won 20 million dollars

يقول لي اني ربحت 20 مليون دولار

and all I have to do is send him my bank details.

وكل ماعلي فعله هو ان ارسل له تفاصيل حسابي البنكي.

My mom might say to me, "Lucy, I smell a rat.

قد تقول لي امي : لوسي "انا اشتم رائحة جرذ"

"I think there's trickery going on here."

اعتقد انه يوجد خدعة في الامر

Yeah, so to smell a rat is to suspect trickery

اجل، "اشم رائحة جرذ" بمعنى اشك بخدعة

or malicious intent.

او نية خبيثة
