If, however, you've experienced swimming in the UK, it's very different.

Now, an outdoor pool in the UK is often referred to as a lido.

It suggests that technically a lido is an outdoor pool that is close to a natural

Now when you jump into a pool, you have the choice of different types of strokes.

Now, a stroke is basically the style of swimming that you choose.

I used to be terrible at swimming where you put your head under the water.

So you talk about swimming lengths, if you are an adult and a competent swimmer.

Beginners and children might talk about swimming widths,

Now, I did learn eventually to dip my head under the water with each stroke.

Now, the next most popular stroke is called the front crawl.

You might sometimes hear this referred to as freestyle, and you are lifting each

I didn't learn this stroke until literally about a year ago.

This is because your head is often in the water the whole time, and

Now I can swim a couple of lengths of front crawl without

The next stroke is on your back and it's called backstroke.

Now when I was researching this podcast and looking for the correct terms for

Okay, so let's talk about pools in the UK.

I said the majority of pools are indoor pools and often people learn
