British English Pronunciation Practice - "Inconsistent" Poem & Explanation

Today we're doing something  a little bit different.

اليوم نقوم بشيء مختلف قليلاً.

We are delving into the world of poetry.

نحن نتعمق في عالم الشعر.

Now I have a series of  pronunciation poems coming your way.

الآن لدي سلسلة من قصائد النطق في طريقك.

And today I'm going to be breaking  down the poem “Inconsistent”.

واليوم سأقوم بتفكيك القصيدة "غير متناسقة".

So, let's hear the poem. First of all

لذا دعنا نسمع القصيدة. بادئ ذي بدء

English pronunciation is quite tricky, it’s true,

، فإن نطق اللغة الإنجليزية صعب للغاية ، هذا صحيح ،

As blue, and blew too, they rhyme with two.

نظرًا لأن اللون الأزرق ينفجر أيضًا ، فإنهم يتناغمون مع اثنين.

There’s little consistency between fear and bear,

هناك القليل من الاتساق بين الخوف والدب ،

The latter rhyming with there, their, and they’re.

والقافية الأخيرة مع هناك ، هم ، وهم.

And that’s not the worst of it, consider the ‘o’,

وهذا ليس أسوأ ما في الأمر ، ضع في اعتبارك "o" ،

Lacks consistency between dot, do and don’t.

يفتقر إلى التناسق بين النقطة ، افعل ولا تفعل.

What has not got an ‘o’, nor has because.

A cause of confusion is has and was.

سبب الارتباك كان وكان.

Though, thought and through boggle the mind.

رغم ذلك ، الفكر وعبر تحير العقل.

Tough stuff our words, they are not well designed

أشياء صعبة كلماتنا ، فهي ليست مصممة بشكل جيد

Fork rhymes with walk, and bird with word,

القوافي الشوكة مع المشي ، والطائر مع الكلمة ،

Foot rhymes with put, not boot. I heard…

القوافي القدم مع وضع ، وليس التمهيد. سمعت……

…learning English is hard, so here’s what to do,

تعلم اللغة الإنجليزية صعب ، لذا إليك ما يجب فعله ،

Prioritise pronunciation and you will fly through.

Okay, so let's break this poem down.

حسنًا ، دعنا نكسر هذه القصيدة.

Let's start!

لنبدأ!

English pronunciation is quite tricky, it's true...

نطق اللغة الإنجليزية صعب للغاية ، هذا صحيح ...

And this is the first of our /u:/, sounds.

وهذا هو أول أصواتنا / u: /.

It's true. As blue and blew  too. They rhyme with two.

انها حقيقة. مثل الأزرق وفجر أيضا. قافية مع اثنين.

So here we have a repeat of this long /u:/ vowel  in ‘true’, ‘blue’, ‘blew’, ‘too’ and ‘two’.

إذن لدينا هنا تكرار لهذا الطويل / u: / حرف العلة في "true" و "blue" و "blew" و "too" و "two".

Now the word ‘rhyme’, ‘rhyme’  that has an unusual spelling.

الآن كلمة "قافية" ، "قافية" التي لديها هجاء غير عادي.

But the pronunciation is /raım/, /raım/, /raım/.

لكن النطق هو / raım /، / raım /، / raım /.

Okay?

تمام؟

English pronunciation is quite tricky, it's true

As blue and blew too, they rhyme with two.

There's little consistency (in  pronunciation) between fear and bear.

هناك القليل من الاتساق (في النطق) بين الخوف والدب.

Now, hear that difference.

الآن ، اسمع هذا الاختلاف.

Fear /fıə/.

الخوف / fı /.

Bear /beə/.

Bear / beə /.

Fear, /ıə/, like your ear.

Bear /beə/, like chair /ʧeə/,  hair /heə/, where /weə/.

Bear / beə / ، مثل الكرسي / eə / ، الشعر / heə / ، أين / نحن /.

Like the air we breathe.

So, we have ‘ear’ and ‘air’,

إذن ، لدينا "أذن" و "هواء" و

‘ear’ and ‘air’.

"أذن" و "هواء".

Fear /fıə/. Bear /beə/.

الخوف / fı /. Bear / beə /.

Okay, so they are different even  though that spelling is the same.

حسنًا ، إنهما مختلفان على الرغم من أن الهجاء هو نفسه.

The latter, rhyming with there, their and they’re.

الأخير ، القافية مع هناك ، هم وهم.

Okay, so the word ‘latter’ means  the last in the previous list.

حسنًا ، لذا فإن كلمة "الأخير" تعني الأخير في القائمة السابقة.

So, the last in the previous list was a list of  two ‘fear’ and ‘bear’ and the latter was ‘bear’.

لذلك ، كانت القائمة الأخيرة في القائمة السابقة عبارة عن قائمة من اثنين من "الخوف" و "الدب" والأخيرة كانت "الدب".

And it's saying the last one ‘bear’ rhymes  with ‘there’, ‘their’ and ‘they’re’.

وهو يقول آخر قوافي "الدب" مع "هناك" و "هم" و "هم".

Three different words.

ثلاث كلمات مختلفة.

And they all have the same sound.

وجميعهم لديهم نفس الصوت.

Exactly the same sound.

بالضبط نفس الصوت.

The last one as well.

آخر واحد كذلك.

Pay close attention to contraction pronunciations  because many students don't like to pronounce  

انتبه جيدًا للنطق الانقباضي لأن العديد من الطلاب لا يحبون نطق

contractions in a different way to the  single words, many students would see  

الانقباضات بطريقة مختلفة عن الكلمات المنفردة ، ويرى العديد من الطلاب

that word and say ‘they’re’ but try to pronounce  the contraction ‘they’re /ðeə/’, ‘they’re /ðeə/’.

هذه الكلمة ويقولون "إنهم" ولكنهم يحاولون نطق الانكماش "هم / ðeə / '،' هم / ðeə / '.

Let's move on.

هيا لنذهب.

And that's not the worst of it. Consider the ‘o’,

وهذا ليس أسوأ ما في الأمر. ضع في اعتبارك "o" ،

Lacks consistency between dot, do and don't.

يفتقر إلى التناسق بين النقطة ، افعل ولا تفعل.

So, look at these three words ‘dot’, ‘do’,‘don't’.

لذا ، انظر إلى هذه الكلمات الثلاث "نقطة" و "افعل" و "لا تفعل".

How are we pronouncing that ‘o’? In the first we have /ɒ/, in the second we  

كيف نلفظ ذلك "أوه"؟ في الأول لدينا / ɒ / ، في الثانية لدينا

have /uː/, in the third we have /əʊ/. /ɒ/, /uː/, /əʊ/

/ uː / ، في الثالث لدينا / əʊ /. / ɒ /، / uː /، / əʊ /

/dɒ/, /duː/, /dəʊ/ dot /dɒt/, do /duː/, don't /dəʊnt/.

/ dɒ /، / duː /، / dəʊ / dot / dɒt /، do / duː /، لا / dəʊnt /.

So, there is a lack in pronunciation  consistency then we go on to say

لذلك ، هناك نقص في اتساق النطق ، ثم نواصل قول

What has not got an ‘o’ /ɒ/...

ما لم يحتوي على 'o' / ɒ / ...

but we still pronounce it like it has ‘o’ /ɒ/,

لكننا ما زلنا نلفظه كما لو أنه يحتوي على 'o' / ɒ / ،

/wɒ/, /wɒt/.

/ wɒ / ، / wɒt /.

But it has not got an ‘o’ in the way it's written.

لكنها لم تحصل على "o" بالطريقة التي كتبت بها.

... nor has because.

... ولا بسبب.

Because /bɪˊkɒz/.

لأن / bɪˊkɒz /.

Now here that -ause /ɒz/, /ɒ/, /ɒ/

الآن هنا هذا -ause / z / ، / ɒ / ، / /

-cause /kɒz/, because /bɪˊkɒz/

-cause / kɒz / ، لأن / bɪˊkɒz /

So, ‘what’ and ‘because’  both have this ‘o’ /ɒ/ sound.

إذن ، "ماذا" و "لأن" كلاهما لهما هذا الصوت "o" / ɒ /.

What has not got an o, nor has because. A cause of confusion is has an was.

ما لا يحتوي على o ولا بسبب. سبب الارتباك هو وجود كان.

Did you hear the difference between  how I pronounce ‘cause’ /kɔːz/ when  

هل سمعت الفرق بين كيفية نطق "السبب" / kɔːz / عندما

it's on its own as opposed to when  it's in the word ‘because’ /bɪˊkɒz/.

يكون بمفرده مقابل عندما يكون في الكلمة "بسبب" / bɪˊkɒz /.

Cause /kɔːz/, because /bɪˊkɒz/.

السبب / kɔːz / ، لأن / bɪˊkɒz /.

Cause /kɔːz/, because /bɪˊkɒz/.

السبب / kɔːz / ، لأن / bɪˊkɒz /.

In ‘because’ /bɪˊkɒz/ it’s short /ɒ/, but  in cause /kɔːz/ we have this long /ɔː/. 

في "لأن" / bɪˊkɒz / إنها قصيرة / ɒ / ، لكن في السبب / kɔːz / لدينا هذا الطول / ɔː /.

/ɒ/ - /ɔː/

/ ɒ / - / ɔː /

/ɒ/ - /ɔː/ because /bɪˊkɒz/ – cause /kɔːz/

/ ɒ / - / ɔː / لأن / bɪˊkɒz / - سبب / kɔːz /

A cause of confusion is has and was.

سبب الارتباك كان وكان.

They both have an ‘-as’, but ‘has’  is /..əz/ and ‘was’ is /..ɒz/

كلاهما لديه "-as" ، لكن "has" /..əz/ و "كان" /..ɒz/

/..əz/ - /..ɒz/

/..əz/ - /..ɒz/

So confusing.

مربك للغاية.

Next.

التالي.

Though, thought and through...

رغم ذلك ، فكر وعبر ...

Though /ðəʊ/, thought /θɔ:t / and through /θru:/

على الرغم من / ðəʊ / ، فكر / θɔ: t / و خلال / θru: /

they boggle the mind.

أنها تحير العقل.

They look so similar but they're so different.

تبدو متشابهة جدًا لكنها مختلفة تمامًا.

Tough stuff...

أشياء صعبة ...

They both rhyme, tough – stuff.

كلاهما قافية ، قاسية - أشياء.

Tough stuff our words, they are not well designed.

كلماتنا صعبة ، فهي ليست مصممة بشكل جيد.

Fork rhymes with walk, bird with word Foot /fʊt/ rhymes with put /pʊt/, not boot /bu:t/.

قوافي الشوكة مع المشي ، الطيور مع الكلمة قدم / قدم / القوافي مع put / pʊt / ، وليس التمهيد / bu: t /.

"قدم" / fʊt / ، boot / bu: t / /

/ʊ/ – /u:/, /ʊ/ – /u:/

They are different.

/ - / u: / ، / / - / u: / هم مختلفون.

Foot /fʊt/ rhymes with put /pʊt/, not boot /bu:t/.

قدم / قدم / قوافي مع وضع / pʊt / ، وليس التمهيد / bu: t /.

I heard... 'Cause ‘heard’ /hɜ:d/  rhymes with ‘word’ /wɜ:d/.

سمعت ... 'سبب' سمعت '/ hɜ: d / القوافي مع' word '/ wɜ: d /.

I heard learning English is hard, so here's what  

سمعت أن تعلم اللغة الإنجليزية صعب ، لذا فإليك ما

to do. Prioritize pronunciation  and you will fly through /θru:/.

يجب فعله. أعط الأولوية للنطق وستطير عبر / θru: /.
