I made what many perceive as a risky decision.

This infection would be part of what is called a human challenge trial,

I think this research is crucial,

Scientists have been using human challenge trials

There's been a lot of debate

A challenge trial would only recruit young and healthy participants --

I volunteered despite that uncertainty
