ਪਲੈਟੀਨਮ ਜੁਬਲੀ ਕੀ ਹੈ? ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਪਰੰਪਰਾਵਾਂ

This year we celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s  platinum jubilee. A jubilee is an anniversary,  

ਇਸ ਸਾਲ ਅਸੀਂ ਮਹਾਰਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਮਹਾਰਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਪਲੈਟੀਨਮ ਜੁਬਲੀ ਮਨਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ। ਜੁਬਲੀ ਇੱਕ ਵਰ੍ਹੇਗੰਢ ਹੈ,

a time to celebrate something important.  This year, it’s the seventieth anniversary  

ਇੱਕ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸਾਲ, ਇਹ

of Queen Elizabeth the second’s accession to  the throne of the United Kingdom. This means  

ਮਹਾਰਾਣੀ ਐਲਿਜ਼ਾਬੈਥ ਦੀ ਯੂਨਾਈਟਿਡ ਕਿੰਗਡਮ ਦੀ ਗੱਦੀ 'ਤੇ ਦੂਜੀ ਵਾਰ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਸੱਤਰਵੀਂ ਵਰ੍ਹੇਗੰਢ ਹੈ। ਇਸਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਕਿ

she became the Queen seventy years ago, on the  sixth of February nineteen fifty-two, to be exact,  

ਉਹ ਸੱਤਰ ਸਾਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ, 19 ਫਰਵਰੀ ਦੀ ਛੇਵੀਂ ਨੂੰ,

after her father died. So the Queen acceded to the  throne seventy years ago this year - 2022

ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਮਹਾਰਾਣੀ ਬਣੀ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮਹਾਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਸਾਲ ਸੱਤਰ ਸਾਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਗੱਦੀ 'ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ - 2022

‘To accede’ just means to take up an office  or position.

'ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ' ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਸਿਰਫ ਇੱਕ ਦਫਤਰ ਜਾਂ ਅਹੁਦਾ ਸੰਭਾਲਣਾ ਹੈ।

Like many things associated with the royal family, it’s a very formal word, usually reserved for royalty or high office.

ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀਆਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ, ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਰਸਮੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਆਮ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਰਾਇਲਟੀ ਜਾਂ ਉੱਚ ਅਹੁਦੇ ਲਈ ਰਾਖਵਾਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

'Throne' is this - a highly decorated, ceremonial chair for  a monarch or other important person. We also use  

'ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ' ਇਹ ਹੈ - ਇੱਕ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਜਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਸਜਾਈ, ਰਸਮੀ ਕੁਰਸੀ। ਅਸੀਂ

the word ‘throne’ figuratively, to mean a position  of power, so to take the throne or accede to the  

'ਸਿੰਘਾਸਣ' ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਖਣਿਕ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਵੀ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਾਂ , ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਣ ਲੈਣ ਜਾਂ

throne means to become king or queen, but  also, figuratively, to start to hold power. 

ਸਿੰਘਾਸਣ 'ਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਰਾਜਾ ਜਾਂ ਰਾਣੀ ਬਣਨਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਵੀ, ਲਾਖਣਿਕ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ, ਸੱਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ।

The Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations  started in February 2022

Defender of the Faith. That’s her official  title! Wow! That’s a mouthful! This is a crown,  

ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ। ਇਹ ਉਸਦਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਸਿਰਲੇਖ ਹੈ! ਵਾਹ! ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ! ਇਹ ਤਾਜ ਹੈ,

so ‘to be crowned’ means to become a king or  queen. It can also just mean to win a competition.  

ਇਸ ਲਈ 'ਤਾਜ ਪਾਉਣਾ' ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਜਾਂ ਰਾਣੀ ਬਣਨਾ। ਇਸਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਜਿੱਤਣਾ ਵੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

Queen Elizabeth the second was crowned on June  the second nineteen fifty-three, which makes  

ਮਹਾਰਾਣੀ ਐਲਿਜ਼ਾਬੈਥ ਦੂਸਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਜੂਨ ਦੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਉਨ੍ਹੀਵੰਜਾ-ਤਿੰਨ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਜ ਪਹਿਨਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ

her the longest reigning British monarch ever!  ‘To reign’, no not this kind of rain, this kind of reign, means to

hold royal office, or simply be the queen or king.

Our beloved Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations  include a four day weekend for people who live in  

ਸਾਡੀ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਮਹਾਰਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਪਲੈਟੀਨਮ ਜੁਬਲੀ ਜਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ

the UK at the beginning of June! Whoo hoo! And  to celebrate, her subjects are throwing street

Now you know all about the jubilee, here’s  five important rules you should know  

ਹੁਣ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜੁਬਲੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹੋ, ਇੱਥੇ ਪੰਜ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਨਿਯਮ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਹੋਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ

if you’re ever lucky enough  to meet Her Majesty the Queen.

ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮਹਾਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ ਕਦੇ ਖੁਸ਼ਕਿਸਮਤ ਹੋ।

One: You should never try to touch the  Queen unless she touches you first. So

if she doesn’t put out her hand to shake yours,  the correct way to greet her is with a small

necessary when you meet the Queen. A small  bow, like a nod of the head, is enough.

Two: It is considered very bad etiquette indeed to  put your hands in your pockets around the Queen.  

ਦੋ: ਮਹਾਰਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਜੇਬਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੱਥ ਪਾਉਣਾ ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਾੜਾ ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਟਾਚਾਰ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Etiquette is the rules for or how you should  behave in polite society. As you can imagine,  

ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਟਾਚਾਰ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਨਿਯਮ ਹਨ ਜਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਨਿਮਰ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਵਿਵਹਾਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਲਪਨਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ,

there are many rules of etiquette for when  you meet a member of the royal family but  

ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹੋ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਟਾਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਿਯਮ ਹਨ ਪਰ

don’t worry if you don’t get it all right! They  understand that there are a lot of rules to learn.

ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਠੀਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ! ਉਹ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਿਯਮ ਹਨ।

Three: The correct way to address the Queen  

ਤਿੰਨ: ਮਹਾਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਇਹ

is to call her ‘Your Royal Highness’ the  first time you meet her and then just  

ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹੋ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ 'ਯੂਅਰ ਰਾਇਲ ਹਾਈਨੈਸ' ਕਹੋ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਉਸ

ma’am after that. Pleased to meet you, Your Royal Highness.

ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਮਹਿਮਾ। ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਰਾਇਲ ਹਾਈਨੈਸ, ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ।

Four: No selfies! It’s considered a faux pas to  take a selfie with any member of the royal family,  

ਚਾਰ: ਕੋਈ ਸੈਲਫੀ ਨਹੀਂ! ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਨਾਲ ਸੈਲਫੀ ਲੈਣਾ ਗਲਤ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

although Prince Harry has been known to pose for  some! A faux pas, a word borrowed from French,  

ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸ ਹੈਰੀ ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਪੋਜ਼ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ! ਇੱਕ ਗਲਤ ਪਾਸ, ਫ੍ਰੈਂਚ ਤੋਂ ਉਧਾਰ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੈ,

is when you do or say something that’s  not polite, but it’s not too serious if  

ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੁਝ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋ ਜੋ ਨਿਮਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਜੇ

you do it.

ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਨਹੀਂ

Number five. Last but not least, you  mustn’t start eating before the Queen

meal to arrive before starting to eat at  a restaurant. But did you also know that,  

ਇੱਕ ਰੈਸਟੋਰੈਂਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਖਾਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਦੇ ਆਉਣ ਦੀ ਉਡੀਕ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਪਰ ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹੋ ਕਿ,

if you are ever lucky enough to eat  with the Queen, you also have to stop  

ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਮਹਾਰਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਖਾਣਾ ਖਾਣ ਲਈ ਖੁਸ਼ਕਿਸਮਤ ਹੋ, ਤਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਉਦੋਂ ਰੁਕਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ

when she stops eating? The meal is finished when  the Queen is finished. That’s real girl power! 

Of course,  

ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਖਾਣਾ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ? ਰਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਖਤਮ ਹੋਣ 'ਤੇ ਖਾਣਾ ਖਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਅਸਲੀ ਕੁੜੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਹੈ! ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ,

it feels necessary to mention there’s some  mixed opinions about the monarchy in Britain.  

ਇਹ ਦੱਸਣਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਬ੍ਰਿਟੇਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਾਜਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੁਝ ਮਿਸ਼ਰਤ ਰਾਏ ਹਨ।

Some people think this kind of inherited power is  outdated while others love the tradition, grace and dignity  

ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਸੋਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਵਿਰਾਸਤੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਦੂਸਰੇ
