What is the most important thing in life?

อะไรคือสิ่งที่สำคัญที่สุดในชีวิต?

Some people might say happiness.

บางคนอาจจะบอกว่ามีความสุข

To be happy means that life is going well.

การมีความสุขหมายถึงชีวิตเป็นไปด้วยดี

Some people might say money is important.

บางคนอาจบอกว่าเงินเป็นสิ่งสำคัญ

Having money makes you comfortable.

การมีเงินทำให้คุณสบายใจ

Maybe good health is an important thing.

บางทีสุขภาพที่ดีก็เป็นสิ่งสำคัญ

As without that, life will be unpleasant.

หากปราศจากสิ่งนั้นชีวิตก็จะไม่เป็นที่พอใจ

But besides happiness, 

แต่นอกจากความสุข

money, and health...

เงินทอง และสุขภาพแล้ว...

one thing that many people feel is important

สิ่งหนึ่งที่หลายคนรู้สึกว่าสำคัญ

is to have a friend.

คือการมีเพื่อน

Of course your family will most likely  be the most important part of your life,

แน่นอนว่าครอบครัวของคุณน่าจะเป็นส่วนที่สำคัญที่สุดในชีวิตของคุณ

However, many people feel the need to have friends in their day-to-day 

อย่างไรก็ตาม หลายๆ คนรู้สึกว่าจำเป็นต้องมีเพื่อนใน ชีวิต

life.

A friend can be close and  trusted, or they might be a person 

เพื่อนสามารถสนิทสนมและไว้วางใจได้หรืออาจเป็นคน

you know generally in life.

We normally call this type  of friend an acquaintance.

ปกติเราจะเรียกเพื่อนประเภทนี้ว่าคนรู้จัก

So friendship can be more than one type of thing.

ดังนั้นมิตรภาพจึงมีได้มากกว่าหนึ่งประเภท

There are many ways of describing a friend.

มีหลายวิธีในการอธิบายเพื่อน

‘pal’

'เพื่อน'

‘buddy’

'เพื่อน'

‘mate’

'เพื่อน'

‘chum’

'ชุม'

‘brother’ ‘sister’

'พี่ชาย' 'น้องสาว'

‘comrade’.

A group of friends meeting together  might be described as... ‘the guys’

กลุ่มเพื่อนที่มาพบกันอาจเรียกได้ว่าเป็น... 'the guys'

‘the group’, ‘the gang’,

'the group', 'the gang',

‘the brothers’, ‘the sisters’.

'the Brothers', 'the sisters'.

You might have a best friend,

คุณอาจมีเพื่อนที่ดีที่สุด

A person you can share your deepest feelings with.

คนที่คุณสามารถแบ่งปันความรู้สึกลึกที่สุดด้วยได้

A very close friend might be described as your ‘soul mate’.

เพื่อนสนิทอาจเรียกได้ว่าเป็น 'คู่ชีวิต' ของคุณ

Sometimes two friends might become closer.

บางครั้งเพื่อนสองคนอาจจะสนิทกันมากขึ้น

They form a loving relationship.

It is not unusual for friends to become  lovers, or even a married couple.

Who is your best friend?

There is an expression in English...
