First, I'm going to say the sentence quickly.

What words go in these two blanks?

Well, the answer is,

They look the same,

သူတို့ပုံချင်းတူ

but they sound different.

Let me explain why the two different words.

Okay, let's take a look at these two words.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ဒီစကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးကို လေ့လာကြည့်ရအောင်။

‘wound’

'အနာ'

and ‘wound’.

နှင့် 'အနာ'။

They spell the same way,

စာလုံးပေါင်းချင်းတူ

but the pronunciation

ပေမယ့် အသံထွက်

and the meaning is different.

နဲ့ အဓိပ္ပါယ်ကတော့ မတူပါဘူး။

It's a Heteronym.

၎င်းသည် Heteronym တစ်ခုဖြစ်သည်။

What's the Heteronym?

Heteronym ဟူသည် အဘယ်နည်း။

It’s where two words are spelled the same way,

ဤနေရာတွင် စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးကို တူညီစွာ စာလုံးပေါင်း

but have a different pronunciation,

သော်လည်း မတူညီသော အသံထွက်

and a different meaning.

နှင့် အဓိပ္ပါယ်ကွဲပြားသော နေရာဖြစ်သည်။

Let's have a look at the meaning

စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးရဲ့

and pronunciation of our two words.

အဓိပ္ပါယ်နဲ့ အသံထွက်ကို ကြည့်ကြရအောင်

First, we have ‘wound’.

။ ပထမ၊ ငါတို့မှာ 'အနာ' ရှိတယ်။

‘wound’ is a verb,

'ဒဏ်ရာ' သည် ကြိယာဖြစ်ပြီး

it’s past tense of the verb ‘wind’.

ကြိယာ 'လေ' ၏ အတိတ်ကာလဖြစ်သည်။

And ‘wind’ means to turn or coil lots of times.

'လေ' ဆိုသည်မှာ အကြိမ်များစွာ လှည့်ရန် သို့မဟုတ် ကွိုင်ကို ဆိုလိုသည်။

I have two sentences to show you this.

ဒါကို မင်းကိုပြဖို့ ငါ့မှာ စာကြောင်းနှစ်ကြောင်းရှိတယ်။

‘Yesterday,’. past tense, already happened.

'မနေ့က,'။ past tense ဖြစ်နေပြီ။

‘I wound my watch.’

'ကျွန်မ နာရီကို ဒဏ်ရာရတယ်။'

‘Yesterday, I wound my watch.’

'မနေ့က ငါ့လက်ပတ်နာရီကို ဒဏ်ရာရသွားတယ်'

And sentence number two.

နံပါတ်နှစ်ဝါကျ။

‘The vine wound around the pole.’

'စပျစ်နွယ်ပင်သည် ဝါးလုံးပတ်လည်၌ အနာဖြစ်၏'

The vine, a plant, wound around the pole.

စပျစ်ပင်သည် ဝါးလုံးတစ်ဝိုက် အနာ၊

ကောင်းပြီ၊ အသံထွက်။

‘wound’ is a noun.

'အနာ' သည် နာမ်။

It means a cut or a scrape

သွေးထွက်လွန်ပြီး နာကျင်သော အရာတစ်ခုကို

something that is bleeding and it hurts.

လှီးဖြတ်ခြင်း သို့မဟုတ် ခြစ်ခြင်းဟု ဆိုလိုသည် ။

I have two sentences to show you this.

ဒါကို မင်းကိုပြဖို့ ငါ့မှာ စာကြောင်းနှစ်ကြောင်းရှိတယ်။

‘The wound on my knee hurts.’

'ဒူးမှာ ဒဏ်ရာကနာတယ်။'

The cut or the scrape on my knee is bleeding.

ပြတ်ရှဒဏ်ရာ သို့မဟုတ် ခြစ်ရာသည် သွေးထွက်နေသည်။

It hurts.

နာကျင်သည်။

‘The wounds on my knee hurts.’

'ဒူးမှာ ဒဏ်ရာတွေနာတယ်။'

And sentence number two.

နံပါတ်နှစ်ဝါကျ။

‘Clean the wound before it gets infected.’

'ရောဂါပိုးမကူးစက်ခင် ဒဏ်ရာကို ဆေးကြောသန့်စင်ပါ။'

Clean the wound.

အနာကို ဆေးကြောသန့်စင်ပါ။

Clean scrape, clean the cut before it gets infected.

ခြစ်ရာကို သန့်စင်ပါ၊ မကူးစက်မီ လှီးဖြတ်ထားပါ။

before it gets dirty.

မညစ်ပတ်မီ၊

Okay, let's practice pronunciation.
